Cassie, thank you so much for the kind words. You always know what to say! You are so good at expressing yourself and I encourage you to pursue writing. You may think you aren't creative in coming up with story ideas, but honestly you don't have to "create" a story out of thin air. You can write a book based on a true story. Check out "Zeitoun" by Dave Eggers. It's amazing! I'm reading it right now and it's blowing me away.

As for my mini plateau, I feel like I experience a lot of them. I have a feeling I will see a good drop soon though.

Terri, many many thanks for the support. I appreciate it more than you know. I personally think you did great this week considering all the stress you had to go through! You rocked it, Girl!!! You should feel great about yourself!

Mike, you are a sweetheart.... and yes the doggy conga line sure did make me smile! You know how dog crazy I am!

So tomorrow I am off to the beach, just in time too because the weather man says we're expecting 10-15 cm of snow tomorrow! The first day of SPRING! Thank goodness, I won't be here to bitch about it!

I'm just going to throw this out there, but I think I will be more in control on this vacation than I have in the last 2. I am staying in a condo complex that has a gym and a pool and I plan on doing lots of exercise! I also think I will be more inclined to eat healthy since it's warm summer weather down in Florida and I will be in a swim suit every day.

Cassie and Mern,

I never use the activity calculators as I don't find them accurate for me. I do use the calorie calculators available on line, though. For me, at 5'5", hoping to stay at 116, my maintenance calorie intake is 1400. Anything over that and I start gaining. (As I found out. )

Remember, I don't work out. I don't lift weights. I don't do exercise videos. I simply walk. I don't chase little ones around any more. I have no job stress. At 48, I'm finding that my metabolism has slowed and I just can't consume the calories that I did even at 45 and certainly not at 25 or 35.

A few years ago, I was rear-ended while stopped at a stop light on a 2 lane highway by a guy going in excess of 60 mph. As a result, I have 3 bulged disks (neck, upper back and lower back) - areas where the seat belt damaged my spine, but saved my life. As a result I have to lose weight without the benefit of aerobic exercise (other than hiking). I can't do anything that jars the spine, like jogging, tennis, etc.

It is hard to lose weight when you can't lift weights or be terribly aerobic. About all you can do to prevent weight gain, is limit your calorie intake. With hormonal shifts and my metabolism slowing, it becomes even harder.

Long story short, that's why my calorie limits are lower than most.

Lawdy, lawdy, that was a big weekend. I discovered two things: I am a sushi making master! And, when I’ve had a bit to drink, the taste of the nori doesn’t get to me as much . . . so I can eat a LOT more of it. I don’t even want to think about how many calories I put away on Saturday night, and that’s not even including alcohol.
Though I did show remarkable restraint as I was driving home on Sunday. My car kept veering off towards every KFC I passed (okay, there were only two) and it took all my strength to keep my steering wheel straight. My traitorous brain kept justifying the greasy chicken and loaded carbs. But no! I was strong and, arriving home famished and seedy, cooked myself up some turkey breast, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms with an orange to wash it all down. Then a handful of almonds . . . and a row of snakatas . . . ah, an overindulgence of ‘healthy snacks’ is still an overindulgence.

Terri – Well done on your designated driver duties on St Pat’s Day.
I’m definitely agreeing that sorting into piles is working on it. I have a HUGE pile of washing sitting on the formal lounge . . . and the two armchairs . . . ugh. Hope you got ti sorted before your company arrived (or found a nice spot in an unused cupboard to shove it all).

Stacey – hope those books give you some great inspiration to help your son. My son needs to be challenged as well, because he’s quite gifted academically, but is as lazy as a sunny log – if the work’s not put in front of him, he won’t ask for anything harder; he’d rather finish the easy stuff quickly, then spend the rest of the time distracting his classmates. I also think he didn’t get the best teacher at all this year. She doesn’t seem to be putting in any effort for him, and from stories I have heard, she sounds like a bit of a meanie. Well done to Jeremy for his high maths score. Celebrate the achievements and work through the hard times! It'll pay off in the end.

Yunalee – nice job, sticking to your shopping budget!

Mern – the supermarket had no green beans! None! No snow peas, sugar snap peas, nothing. I’m going to have to visit later in the week and see if they’ve received another shipment, then I’m trying that little snack.
Your Columbo day sounds very peaceful. I love being able to curl up in front of the telly and watch a whole series of shows. I’ve been after my partner to get me the entire set of Bewitched DVDs. I do love that show.

Cassie – Is it an inherent ‘boy thing’ that clean clothes get tossed in the laundry instead of being folded and put away? Last week, I think I washed half of my 8yo’s clothes collection . . . and I haven’t seen him wear any of it since last winter. Sigh.

Lastri – well done on your 3lb drop!

Almeeker . . . eeeek! How did you get through all that? I was exhausted just reading about it. The allergy cookbook sounds like a great idea! In between Girl Scouts and scrapbooks and quesadillas, I reckon you should keep going with it!
I’m a fair aim with a longbow, could de-knee someone at 10 paces with throwing axes, but I’ve never touched a gun in my entire life. Thinking of getting myself a ‘girly’ bow. The one we use now has a 70lb draw, but I need one about 30-35lb.

Sgt Friendly Fire – inspiring words for those who just went ‘kapoof’ over the weekend . . . heee.

Rose – I’m sorry about your dad. I know it’s so hard for the first few years, and yes, you do need to give yourself time to grieve when these occasions come around.

Mary – Awesome job! So pleased you reached your challenge goal. You must be very proud of yourself.

End of Week:

Fitness Goals:


1. Increase Water Intake to 10 cups per day. Yes, Yes, Yes (12) Yup, Yes, No, Yes
2. BRING IT!!! to my workouts every day. Hell, yes! With much sweat - yes! Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes – but had to stop half way through because I was completely buggered.
3. Cut the carbs for the first phase of workout diet. 19%, 31%, 12% (but 42% fat purely from parmesan and cashews!), 14%, 32% (why did I have the drinking chocolate? That was almost a third of my carbs ) Don’t want to think about it, Probably Not.


Non-Fitness Goals:

1. Take a deep breath and count to 10 when I feel I'm going to snap at my rambunctious and sometimes trying 8yo, and praise him for the good things he does. Yes, Almost lost it - but yes, Yes, No, Yes, No, Yes
2. Discover what the floor of my laundry looks like, again. Not a chance, One load, No, Can see a few tiles!, Got four loads done . . . can see almost half the tiles! Got a bit more done. No.
3. Clear the random bits of miscellanea from the verandah. Nope, No, Nuh-uh, No, Had a look and saw all the miscellanea is my partner's tools, swords, daggers, spears and other weapons from when he cleaned and oiled them two weeks ago, so now my goal is to make him clean it up!
4. Stop screwing with people when I know they're just gonna get cranky. Nope (but I added this goal on Tuesday, my time), Yes, Yes, Yes, Nope, Yes, Yes.

Well, I've already started a new week, so I have high hopes for myself. No socialising this week, which means no drinking. Actually, I'm kind of looking forward to waking up on Sunday feeling normal.

okay I finally did one of my goals from like 3 weeks ago... I changed my brakes. Now I guess I don't have to sweat every time I come to an intersection.

I think I may change my cheat day to Monday, again this week. I was going to do Tuesday b/c I was going to be in my N.O. office and they wanted rum cake but I just realized I have to go in Monday as well for annuity training and they'll be having cake and ice cream for the birthday peeps for this month. So I figured if I did my cheat on Tuesday as planned, Monday would be difficult with them doing cake, and I'd end up cheating both days.

So now, I need to scrub the filth from my hands and nails since I've been working on the car, fix dinner and then go make a rum cake.

I hope everyone is having a good, and healthy weekend.

Yes, Mai, crab is great. Relatively few calories and practically all protein. One day last summer when I visited family in MD I ate about a dozen steamed blue crabs, some at lunch, then again at dinner. They are one of my favorite foods ever. My pie chart that day was totally absurd! I'm glad you had a good day.

Mike, good job on being productive. I'm glad you'll be safe. Enjoy your cheat anticipation!
