Making some changes
Hi all forgot to post last night. Good news I weighed in yesterday and I'm down 2 lbs. Hooray, not only that but I'm actually starting to feel better, I still sleep late in the day cause Im up late at night but I don't have a problem getting up and working out. I still have a long way to go but I will take that 2 lb drop like its a 50 lbs drop :). Congrats to everyone who had a great week, I think I ready where someone drop 10 lbs already. Congrats on that milestone. I see where I'm still dowing way to many carbs, but I'm working on that. I need to take my measurments so I can monitor that. I can tell that my exercise routine is getting a little easier. I still have shin splints so still not trying to run to much until I get that cleared up. But all is good in my world for right now. I had ice cream today after bible study, no particular reason just wanted it. I know I know I need to do better, but I just had to have it. Well all have a terrific week!
SW: 237.5 CW: 235.2 GW: 200 (for my height it saids 135, I feel great at 200, so we will work from there) |
I have shin splint too. They suck and are putting a real damper in my workout. i went to the Dr. and he said ice them, massage them and take ibuprofen. I am trying to do that but I really just want to run. he said if i don't stay off of them then they wont heal and i will be at risk for stress fractures. Anyway, I hope they heal for you, and big congrats on your first week. Stay motivated. ice cream is okay too, so don't feel too bad about it. Just don't go overboard and eat the whole carton! i used to do that with ben and jerry's after a rough day. I love the flavor half baked, it is so good. I was a big carbs eater too. I am really starting to make strides in fixing that. I logged all my food yesterday and it showed me that I ate a 56% protein diet which was awesome. It felt really good to finally have a balanced food day.
|
Also, I wanted to share that I got on the scale today and the damn thing malfunctioned and told me that I weighed 188.8 which would have been a HUGE weight loss for a short time period. anyway, i figured it had screwed up and i re-took my weight and so far no change since last time. Too bad too because that 188.8 was looking great to me. Can't wait until I actually hit under the 190's.
|
Hello everyone all of you sound really motivated so lets keep it up.
My weight didnt stay so good after my terrible eating binge but i had a really good weekend and ive done loads of exercise so im feeling better about it and ive shifted a couple of pounds that i had gained but im not letting it go back up. Ive got to be more consistent!!!!! I went swimming on tuesday for 1hr 15mins and i was relly proud of myself. Ive been walking more long distance too. My kitchen is crammed with the fruit and veg and ive been lowering the carbs and adding more protein. It really helps me not feel as bloated so i seem to have much more energy. Ive also remembered to love my body as it is at the moment and not to be so hard on myself. I realise that although i am a size 14 my body is healthy on the inside and i WILL get to my ideal weight soon. Compared to a year ago my body is much better than it was back then even if it isnt perfect!! Ive learnt that the less pressure i put on myself the easier the weight comes off. As long as im keeping track on what food im eating and sticking to my allowance i can feel positive that it wont be long til i get to where i want to be. After all its as much of a lifestyle change as it is anything. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Starting weight- 235lbs Current weight- 170lbs Goal weight- 145lbs |
Good Morning!
well, i have lost 1.2 lbs last week, my current weight is 135 lbs!!! and i got only 10 more lbs to go!!!!!wow!!! honestly, i thought i was stuck at that huge weight for the rest of my life! now, everyone is telling me that i have lost so much weight and i look really skinny!!!!! imagine me? skinny? the two don't go together. i'm still in overweight catagory, don't know why people are insisting i'm too skinny? well, i guess i'll never know. Tracy Darling i'm so proud of you, your attitude and your progress. just remember to get enough protein, instead of carbs, you'll be full longer and it helps you lose weight a lot faster too. i usually keep my protein intake @40-45% and love it! see what works better for you! good luck all |
I have a confession to make! last night my husband insisted that we take our 3 year to see Toy Story 3. Bad Idea, I gave in and ate the movie the movie theatre popcorn, buttered and all. Anyway long story short, i put back on a half pound. What a waste and it wasn't even that good! Ican't believe that after amonth of excersising I would givein to such a foolish temtation. It was all for nothing!:(
|
I also have a confession to make.
Yesterday I had my day planned out. I was sapposed to clean the house, do laundry, have dinner done early, and then I was going to go on my 8 mile walk. My boyfriend's mom called him and asked if we wanted to go to a BBQ. I was like yeah ok let's go. It was also a pool party. I can get some swim time in as excersize. We get there and my son is all over me (he's autistic) and he wouldn't let me put him down. He's scared of everything. I go in the pool with him and we look like a couple of baboons because he's hanging on me like a monkey. I couldn't get any swim time in. My son somehow grew roots that wouldn't let me go from my hip. I ended up eating all kinds of crap at the BBQ. Because I couldn't put him down to fix us a plate. Most horrible experience. My son was happy and he said he had a good time. Only because he got what he wanted the whole time. Being with me. The only good thing is I stayed within my carorie budget. Bad thing, it was almost all carbs, Ugh. I need to make up for that. Today I'm eating nothing but protein to even out. |
I am really confused and super disappointed. So, in my first month I lost about 12 pounds. i was super excited about that. However I have shin splints now and I am still working out but have had to change it up a little due to the discomfort. Anyway, I took ONE rest day, drank a ton of WATER and gained 3.5 pounds back. I figured that in the morning I would pee and be back to normal. Not how it worked. I don't know if I was that dehydrated that my body felt like holding onto the water or if I gained that much fat again. or if because it is almost that time of the month that the water is sticking around but will be gone soon.... I just don't know... I am really needing some explanation and encouragement to get me through this one. the weight gain has me stressed and the stress really makes me want to eat bread and noodles. HELP me OUT PLEASE!!!
|
Okay, I'm now eating a bread roll! and RICE! AHHH!!!!
|
c'mon Roxy!!!!! you know better, of course you retain water during that time of the month! you need to eat a lot of calories to gain 3.5 lbs to be exact about 12250 calories. if you know you have not had that many extra calories, then you won't need to worry. also, salty food, make your body retain water as well. so give it time, it'll be out of your system!
|
farab7,
I am kind of a sodium junkie, I guess I really need to be watching that too. Man, so many different numbers to watch. Good news though, despite the 3.5 poundage gain, check out my newest measurements. chest-40 ( maybe a measuring flaw, or my push-ups) waist- 33 ( so happy) hips- 45 for those of you who don't know I use some of these measurements to determine my body fat %, military style. When I started my dieting I was according to their measurements 42& body fat, I am now 38% body fat which is a whole 4% loss which is AWESOME! |
Hi
I just recently joined fitday. its awesome and so nice to have a website that does all this and is free. The likes of weightwatchers and slimming world you gotta pay member fees then monthly payments. I am 23yrs old and 4ft11" (yes im a titch. no jokes please. heard em all an sick of hearing repeats) and currently weigh 145lbs and would like to be 112lbs. i had a baby 4 months ago which was im afraid to say not a pleasant experience. after 22 hours of labour my baby was born by c section. she is perfectly healthy but i was left with an internal infection which developed into a septic abscess that left me less than 24 hours from death. After having an emergency operation to have this drained i was left with an open wound and had to have a negative pressure vaccum machine on. (look it up. negative pressure wound therapy. not nice at all) although that came off after 6 weeks a second infection started collecting so a mini drain had to be put in to get rid of the new collection before it started going septic. today 4 months on i still have to get dressing changes for my wound although i am coming to the end of it healing now. I have been left with a destroyed stomach. There is no chance of me getting a washboard stomach because my stomach muscles were destroyed from the birth, the operation and the not being able to eat for 2 weeks while i was in intensive care. However I am still 3st over my pre-pregnancy weight and I would like to lose this in the hope that my stomach might pull back a bit and i can wear at least size 10 clothes if not size 6-8 like before. Sorry if i keep saying stone instead of lbs. Im from England UK. I imagine the majority of you are from the USA so i will try and use lbs as much as possible but if i dont you can convert by multiplying the number of stone by 14 (14lb to 1 stone). So to get me started i would like to make my first weight loss goal 30lbs then i will just have 12lbs left to lose after that. It would be great if i could reach my ultimate goal by christmas so i can wear a pretty dress for my works christmas do. that is my motivation. |
I am really new to all of this. This message is just to see how it works.
|
Hi everyone
Well im going from a really good week last week to one that could have been alot better this week. Had too many treats and ive had some bad carb cravings last 2 days so im feeling sluggish. I know that i wouldnt feel like this if i didnt give in. I did choose wholegrain carbs though so at least thats something. I need to learn when im full and not to carry on eating and make myself uncomfortable!! Well done Farah you are going to be at goal very soon!!! Keep going! The kids break up this week for summer so im going to make sure that i keep going through the holidays. Last year i lost 22lbs in the 7 weeks they were off so lets hope i can do it again but that was when i started so i dont expect it to be that much this year! Starting weight-234lbs Current weight-170lbs Goal weight-140-145lbs |
Thanks to fitday i could see that today i ate more than i burned. All because of one snickers bar. If i had not had then my calories burnt would be higher than calories ate on my chart.
Its a lesson to us all ladies. It only takes something so small to undo a lot of hard work. Will do better tomorrow. Hoping to lose at least 1lb by the end of the week so i know my weight loss is finally starting to get into gear. |
Hello everyone...it's been a few weeks since I last posted. It took me some time to go back and read what I missed. But, WELCOME everyone who is new! You'll totally love this site. I have been having good and bad days with my eating. Last weekend we threw a surprise 40th anniversary party for my parents. My sisters and I made all of the food for 100+ people. I've been eating the leftovers since! Not good!
On a better note...last week I weighed myself (pre-party weight) and I lost 11 lbs. I am so pumped. I've been cutting out soda as much as possible. I do have to sneak one every now and then. : ( Plus, my little 1 yr old is keeping me busy in the pool. He loves to swim. So, keep up the hard work ladies. And, THANKS....this is the moral support I need. |
I forgot to post his in my last one.....I have been trying to get back into my running. I found this cool website that tracks how far you ran, your time, and calories burned. It's worth checking out!
runkeeper.com |
I did much better today than yesterday. Ate around 1800 calories and burnt 2000. Whoop Whoop. Its great the feeling you get when you realise you have done well.
I managed my 10,000 steps. Well actually i did 11,000. plus 10 minutes dancing this morning. Would of been more dancing but my little one wasnt givin me the time to but not complainin. I just made up for it with the walking as took her out to the park. Roll on tomorrow. I am psyched. I think i might step on scales tonight and see if there is any change yet. Even though my weigh in day is Sunday |
hello everyone!
well, i'm counting down the lbs to go now, got 9 more lbs to go, i've heard the last 10 lbs are the hardest to come off, but i've got time and i'll be really patient. i don't think i'll make my goal date, was supposed to be Aug 13, but it doesn't matter, what matters is that i have lost 8% body fat, got only 9 lbs to lose and over my healthy bmi only by 1.3 points, and i think that's amazing!!!!! Good luck all!!!!!! |
Cool link, kelly. Thanks for sharing!
Great job, farah!!! You have a great attitude, and you're doing so well! Keep it up. I just got back from vacation. I'm afraid to step on the scale. I tried to remember that this is a lifestyle change, everything is okay in moderation, but I definitely screwed up a few times. Combine that with the fact that it's the most wonderful time of the month for me, and I think I'm going to stay off the scale for a couple of days. I'm back on track with my healthy lifestyle, and that's what counts! |
Just joined this week!
About 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with a Thyroid Eye Disease, fortunately I had a mild case and although my eyes look different than before, if you just met me, you wouldn't know I had it. At the time of the dx I weighed 167 and was 5 ft 5 in. Well, I went on a health kick an got down to 134 and felt great! I was taking supplements - Flax seed oil, beta sistosterol, and a variety of other things. My thyroid was stable initially, but then within 6 months, I went Hypothyroid. Once I got my Hypothyroid dx, I started to gain my weight back. In June this year I weighed 180.
I also have had IBS-D since my late 20's. I am now 50. Typically in the past, I would only have symptoms around my period, but now I started in Menopause, I had been having symptoms all the time. So, I had my routine PE last Monday and my Dr. tells me that I am vitamin D deficient and need rx strength Vitamin D for 8 weeks and that my HDL went from 67 last year to 41 this year. SO, I believe it is linked... my IBS-d contributed to my vitamin D deficency and that contributed to my lower HDL. She gave me Levbid to help with IBS-d and am feeling a lot better this past week. My dr wants to be drop to 150, I want to drop to 140. But would be totally happy with 145. I really like this website and joined on Tuesday. I have dropped 7 lbs since June and now weight 173. I am already feeling better. My dr. also wants me to stay away from milk products and take soy. Linda |
Welcome, Linda! My heart goes out to you for all the medical struggles you've been going through. I hope you continue to succeed and continue to feel better!
|
I had an awesome week! I lost my first 10 lbs. then I lost #11lb!!! I have been using whey protein powder right after I walk on my treadmill. I have been walking 5 miles a day and yoga once a week. So high protein low carbs is doing the trick! Now I am no longer obese and just over weight! Hoot Hoot heavy weight here I come!!:D
|
Hi There!
I have about 30-35 ps. to loose and I keep losing and gaining the same 10pds. hopefully with the food journal I can stay on track this time.:o |
Congrats, mshacka!!! That's awesome! Sounds like you're on the right track...keep up the good work. =)
Welcome, monte1! Definitely use the food journal to track every single thing you eat and drink. That helps a lot! Re: losing and gaining the same 10 lbs over and over, try thinking about your journey as a healthy lifestyle, not a diet. If you think about it as a diet, you'll probably restrict yourself like crazy, make changes that you can't keep up forever, and as soon as you stop the diet, you'll gain back what you lost. If you make healthy lifestyle changes, there won't be a diet to go on and off from. You'll just be eating the best you can whenever you can. If you slip up and have a bad snack or meal or day, you can just get back on track at the next meal. As someone who's gained and lost the same weight a million times over, this mindset is what has finally worked for me! Best of luck. =) |
Thanks Fletch. I'm getting ready to walk 12 miles today and hopefully that will off set some of the calories. I'm in training for a half marathon on Aug. 14th. so I'm hoping to shave a few min. off my last time, which was 3:20.
|
Ok, I'm back from my walk but only walked 6.5 miles, instead of the 12, it was just too hot! I used the activity section to add up my workout and it calculated that I burned 2,500. calories on my walk. Do you think that's accurrate? Seems like alot to me?
|
Hey, there's nothing "only" about 6.5 miles! That's awesome! Especially in the heat. Did you make sure to hydrate before, during, and after?
I agree, that seems like a lot just for the walk. What activity did you enter? Did you enter the time or miles? |
I entered the "brisk walking", which I do, but seems like alot.
|
Congrats to everyone losing! It seems like every time I get on here i see more and more positive results. It certainly brightens my day! I'm very moved by everyone! Yesterday was my first official workout in exactly one month (since I had my wisdom teeth taken out). It was great. My husband and I pushed the stroller for our run. We only did 1.76 miles in 16 minutes. Today we are pushing for 20 minutes. I felt so out of shape, but it felt nice and relaxing.
If you didn't catch my post earlier, I started to use RUNKEEPER.COM. It's very cool because you can plan your run on a map, know your distance. When you come back, you can log your time and it will calculate your calories burned and how fast you ran! It's pretty neat. At any rate, I gained a few but managed to take them back off. I am hoping for 3-5 less pounds by the end of the week with my running in this terrible heat! |
This thread has been entirely too quiet this week! How's everyone doing? kelly? farah? tracey? wrightangel? Anyone else who's reading? Are we getting closer to losing 30 lbs?
Just felt like checking in. =) |
Hiya Fletch and everyone else. Ive not been posting for a while and i suppose its because i havent been losing any weight. Need to get in the right frame of mind again or im not going to be nowhere i want to be anytime soon!
Ive had my little girl in hospital undergoing scans on a lump she was born with on her belly. For the past 5 years doctors were telling me its nothing to worry about but i needed my mind put at rest. She has had 2 ultrasounds and they are sure that its a bit of fatty gristle that didnt form properly. Think the right word was a lumpona. We are now waiting for an appointment to see a surgeon to see if it needs to be removed as when she has a full stomach it seems to cause discomfort. Fingers crosssed all will be well!! So last week i was eating too much-alot i think was because i felt stressed and i was maybe more worried on my daughter than i was on what food i was eating. Since the start of the weekend though ive been doing much better and i havent put anymore weight on just not lost anything either. Same patterns with me,i need to have a more consistent weight loss to reach my goal. We are now in August and i really want to get to my goal by the end of the year. I know i can do it once i put my mind to it. The foods i eat are all healthy its just i consume too much of them. I have to admit though ive eaten far too many carbs this week as well and its all white, heavy rubbish so now i know where ive gone wrong its time to fix it!!!!!!!!! |
Oh Tracey that is so scary, I will be praying that all goes well for you and your family. We have a very, very sick grandson, so I sorta know what you're going through...it's hard to see young ones so sick and uncomfortable.:(
I had a miny melt down this morning and had 2 icecreams!:mad:One was a cone and the other a icecream cookie that has 350 calories. EEK!!! But did have healthy foods the rest of the day and stayed under my 1498 cal. allotment, so I guess that's good. Need to get back at it tomorrow. Hope everyone else is doing well. |
fletch8502 - you're right. we have been quiet!
I've gotten off my "eating better" habits! UGH! I don't know what happened. All of a sudden, I started eating out more! Big mistake. I'm on my last month of vacation and I need to get into a better habit....eating better (especially cutting out soda) and exercising. I'm a field hockey coach so I need to be aware of my diet and not pig out on junk food! Need to get back on the right path......I will just keep reading all of your positive comments from everyone to keep me staying positive! It's a new week! Let's all start strong! |
Tracey - I'm so sorry about your daughter! I will keep her and your family in my thoughts and prayers. That's good that you didn't gain any weight, though. Sounds like you've got a good attitude and are back on track! Good job! Keep us posted on your daughter and your weight loss journey.
Monte - I am super impressed and jealous of you. If I had messed up and had two ice creams early on in the day, I would have thrown in the towel for the rest of the day and gone wayyyy over my calorie count! You totally have the right attitude, and that will help you reach your goals! kelly - It's a new day and a new month, so it's definitely time to get back on track! Definitely use this last month of vacation to your advantage....you're a teacher, right? You know how difficult it can be to make time for eating right and exercise during the school year, so make August the best it can be to carry you into the year on the right foot! As for me, I'm at a plateau. I know it's because I haven't been as careful with my diet (lots of parties and vacations). Since I've already lost my 30 lbs and I'm at a healthy weight now, I'm trying to focus more on eating well while still enjoying my summer, even if that means slower weight loss. For example, I went to a party yesterday and did really well at dinner - all vegetables and fruits with a little bit of pasta salad (I'm vegetarian). But I also had a small piece of my aunt's homemade peanut butter pie, and I enjoyed every bite of it! Today I plan on getting a lot of protein, water, and healthy foods to make up for my weekend. Unfortunately, I had a little accident on Saturday...tripped over a tent cord at a party and landed on cement. My knee is still swollen and it's sore even just to walk. I haven't been to the gym since Saturday morning and don't think I'll make it there today. I'll feel a lot better once this heals and I can get back to my exercise. Hope everyone has a great week and a great month! |
Hello evrybody!!!!!
Tracy Darling, hope what your daughter has is nothing serious and could be easily removed! i keep you and your family in my prayers! and i'm glad you have not put on weight, because when i'm stressed and eat mindlessly, i do put onweight fast. Fletch!!!!! you have lost your 30 lb already????? wow!!!! good for you! i still got 8 more lbs to go and with all this crazziness of summer, partying and vacation and all seems the progress is too slow! have not been eating as healthy and exercising enough, so i really can't expect a good weight loss. today is my 18 years anniversary and i kno it's going to be another crazy food day, even though i try to be carefull about my food choices, i'm not going to stress too much if i miss it either. on a lighter note, lately, instead of big ass, my ass has been referred to as a boney ass, is that considered a progress? :D |
Hey I'll take a boney ass anytime! ha,ha.
By the way my name is Monica, I'm 50 (but look 40;)), hubby and I live at a ski resort in Colorado and we have 3 beautiful grandchildren. I have a half marathon coming up on Aug. 14th, and another one on Oct. 17th. I'm hoping to loose 10 pds. before the Oct. 17th half.:p |
Hello ladies,
It's been a while since I've posted. I've been depressed because I was stuck in a plateau for almost 2 months (140lbs). But I never let it discourage me. I kept on trucking with my diet and fitness. In the past two weeks I haven't exercised at all but it's been very busy here with the kids out of school and my sister down with her baby and all. I feel guilty. But I have been eating right (also it's almost that time of the month, I'm bloated) and I was still able to lose 2 lbs. I was shocked. So I know I was doing something right. I have to figure out "exactly" what it was. Has anyone here tried the 10-20 lbs vests that I saw for sale on Walmart's website? Because of the plateau scare I'm thinking of buying one to help me burn more calories. My start weight 156 lbs Current weight 138 lbs Goal weight 125 lbs Total lost 18 lbs 13 lbs more to lose to reach goal |

Hi everyone thankyou all so much for your support and i will keep you all posted on how everything works out. Its so nice to know that people understand and care. Im very grateful and being on here helps me to stay grounded and not lose control too much.
Its the time of month for me so ive been having cravings for absolutely everything carbohydrate from salty to sweet. Ive got to admit i have given in and feel a million miles away from goal. Im hating my body and dont even want to go out of the house because i feel so frumpy. I know it will pass,im trying to drink lots of water today too. Me and the kids made cakes yesterday because we had no money to go out and i felt guilty that we cant bring them away through the summer holidays and i wanted something fun to do. They really enjoyed it and covered the whole thing in chocolate, icing, sweets etc. I ended up giving in to way too much of it though and am living to regret it today. Ive got to pick myself up today though and stop feeling sorry for myself. Im so glad that i have all of you to talk to. |
