Hello Ladies!!! and welcome new members!

guess what? i weigh in this morning and have dropped 3.8 lbs, this week???:p
i guessed my Sis Vickytoria showed me the number and i wanted to meet her at her number since our start date and our goal weight are the same????
any way, i am sooooo happy! for the last few weeks i was stuck and now, the scale is on the move again, and in the right direction too!

Tracy Darling, i think you should take that as a compliment! it shows how healthier and younger you look now that you have lost the weight.
ok, take care and good luck to all of you!!!!!:D

fletch8502 06-18-2010 05:38 AM

Psst...check out my signature! That's right...30 lbs in 3 months!!!! I'm out of town and using a different scale this week, so the number might still fluctuate for a while, but I was SO excited when I saw that number on the scale and wanted to share my excitement!

I'm definitely not ready to start maintaining yet...I'm not sure what my goal weight is. I just want to fit into my old size 2 jeans!!! I also want to continue to work on getting toned and improving running/cardio. I don't need to lose another 30 lbs, so maybe I need to head over to the 5-15 lbers thread. But I'm sure I'll still be around checking in with you ladies!

Have a great weekend!

traceymc1985 06-18-2010 10:36 AM

Evening everyone!
Well done Farah-thats just the result you needed, you deserve that with all the effort you put in! So so pleased for you!!
And Fletch wow 30lbs in 3months be very proud of yourself.
Im feeling really good today-ive eaten really well and also i went out and got a new bra and knickers set to surprise my fella and it certainly paid off. I just strutted into the living room and asked what he thought and boy oh boy he loved it. Lets say it put him in a very good mood fter watching the terrible performance by England in tonights world cup game!
Anyway it was just the reaction i needed and has given me a huge boost in confidence wich ive been lacking for weeks.
I think this has helped keep me going because standing in the mirror i liked what i saw but also thought if i lose the weight i didnt like in places like my arms, thighs and some more belly imagine haw im going to feel then.
My partner has always loved my body even at my biggest but for me to finally feel better and not criticise myself so much is very refreshing for me and for our relationship.
I hope i can keep it up over the weekend as i struggle more if im not kept busy. Hows everyone doing over their weekends?

Roxyewp2010 06-19-2010 07:48 AM

Hey, i have 33 lbs. to lose and would absolutely love to have a group to discuss this with. It would be so helpful because those of us in the 30 pound range would be hittting brick walls together. I think it would be somewhat discouraging to be in there with the 100+ ladies and watching some of them drop 5-10 pounds in one week when my numbers rarely reach 1 pound in a week. I have dieted before and quickly become discouraged. It seems like my weight drops off the first couple weeks and then after that it is a real battle. Even more so that I have 2 young kids. I am 5' 7, 200 lbs, and 23 years old. I am a full time nursing student, which adds a lot of extra stress to my life. I desperately need to get down to 170 by December 17th. I am wanting to go back into the military to help fund the rest of my education but unfortunantly nobody will even talk to me until I'm in the right weight range. I have been running every other day now for only a few days. I am sinply trying to keep my caloric intake under my calories burned. It would be great to talk to others in similar weight circumstances. I would love to know why others are trying to lose weigh, their motivations, and what they are doing to achieve their goals.

kellykelly77 06-20-2010 12:06 AM

fletch8502 - I noticed your weight loss in 3 months. How in the world did you do it? Tomorrow I am starting the Insanity program, but I also know that my diet needs to change.....what changes do I make?

I feel that I am trying, but not hard enough. Perhaps I'm at the point where I just want to clean out my cupboards and get rid of the problem. I have been doing better with some of my major meals - i love salads and grilled veggies so that has been my dinner for a few days. All in all, I need to stay positive.

fletch8502 06-20-2010 01:29 PM

Thank you so much tracey, farah, and kelly! I appreciate your kind words!

As for what I did, here are some things that helped me with my weight loss:
1. Working out 5-7 days per week, including three 30-minute sessions per week with a personal trainer.
2. Recording each and every bite and sip on FitDay without fail!
3. Sticking as close to 1300 calories, 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat as possible. Focusing on lean protein (I'm vegetarian), fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
4. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day.
5. Getting support here on the forums, participating in discussions, and reading lots of articles on diet and exercise for inspiration.

It was hard work, no doubt about that, but more than worth it to feel as good as I feel right now. =) And I'm excited to keep going!

traceymc1985 06-20-2010 09:07 PM

Fletch you worked so well and sound very disciplined. Congratulations!!!
I wish i could afford the gym but paying debts and living on a budget this is impossible. The food is on a budget so its difficult to get all the foods for the family (2 kids and fiance). Im doing well though considering this and my fiance is fantastic and often goes without the goodies so i can get my fruit and veg. Only yesterday he saw my fridge was low on salad so gave me his last bit of money so i could go and get some more to keep me going til shopping day. So supportive-he knows how much losing weight is important to me!
For meals i try my hardest to cook low fat alternatives to family favourites. Im trying to up my water intake and i eat wholegrain varieties whenever i can.
My downfall comes on an evening when the kids are in bed and all i want to do is eat. Its not unhealthy things but i just cant seem to help myself. I used to go upstairs once they in bed but there is tv i want to watch that doesnt finish until 11pm and i havent a tv in my bedroom.
I know i just need to find more willpower and i will get to goal. I just have to keep with it and do what i can on the budget we have. The debts will be clear in a year but i am determined to reach my goal weight this year!

Starting weight- 234lb
Current weight- 169lb
Goal weight- between 140-145lbs

oldfashionedanne 06-21-2010 06:27 AM

I'm new here! I've been using fitday on and off for a while, but just now found the forums. I'm in the 30 lb club. I'm at 190 right now, and looking to lose it all. I've gained 10 lbs a year since my senior year of high school (I'm 21 and starting my junior year of college). A lot has contributed to my weight (stress, dad's death etc). I've tried to lose it but it just doesn't go anywhere. Plus, I've had shin injuries and knee problems, making it really hard to work out.

Right now I'm going to focus on losing 10 lbs by August. Then I'll go from there. :D So glad to find ya'll on here!

ShelleySteeves 06-21-2010 10:24 AM

My First day!

Well, this is my first day on Fit Day and I have to say I love the site so far. It's much more fun than keeping a journal and I get to chat with people in the same boat too, how great is that! I am 39 years old, 5.4 and weight in right now at about 169. My goal is to get down to 147. It may sound like a lot for my height, but I work out a lot and have always weighed a lot for my height...big boned I guess ha ha!! Well, these days there is a lot more than bone and I am determined to get it back off. I was down to 147 two years ago and was quite pleased in a size 8 for the first time in years! But then I hurt my knee and could not run anymore, well, the weight has crept back on in the last few years. I am still very active, go to Hot Bikram Yoga about 5 times a week. Man, that's a work out if you've never tried it!! But I really have to cut back on the carbs and sugar, they are a killer for me. So, here I am, determined to do it once and for all. I am also a two time cancer survivor, so my journey is more about staying healthy. All that extra weight is not good...cancer loves sugar and fat. Well, I am not about to go a third round, so keep me in your hearts and I will you :)
:D

farahb7 06-21-2010 10:55 AM

ohhh!!!!! i typed a very long note here, for vickytoria3112, Fletch and Tracy and it just disappeared!!!!!:(

vickytoria3112, it's not a race but i am following your numbers, and love what i see. as i mentioned before you're the closest that i can relate to in terms of start date and goal weight and love the idea of getting our sexy looks together at the same time. keep up the good work!!!!

Fletch! what you have done is truely impressive, i am really impressed by your dicipline and hard work! and thank you for sharing your strategy!!!! good luck and keep posting your progress, love to know how you're doing!

Tracy Darling, i wish i knew a way to stop snacking. even though i'm not a snacker myself, i keep the snacks in the cupboard and away from the eye sight, so i don't reach for it. try it, maybe it works for you as well?

and welcome new members! you have made the right choice in utilizing fitday for your weight loss and that is a very smart move! good luck to you(and all of us) in this journey!

Does anyone know anything about Prediabetes?

Ok had to do a fasting glucose test last week and they found out that my blood sugar was 107 which is considered "Prediabetic". I told my doctor that I am trying to lose weight and that I have lost 7 pounds since a month ago, she said that was wonderful. She said I needed to take a class at Kaiser for prediabetes. So does anyone know anything about Prediabetes? I know that one way to get rid of it is to lose weight, and to eat better, meaning lay off the fat, and to exercise. But how long does it take for this to turn into diabetes if I don't change anything? I do not want to be a diabetic at all. If I can survive breast cancer then I will do this. I will not be a diabetic!!!! Does anyone have any information they could pass on to me?

i'm in for this club/forum...what ever it is called!

My name is Kaitlin and i live in NY. I weigh currently 213ish. I would like to drop to 190 by halloween which is my favorite holiday.

I am going to try doing this by working out 3/week (walking, jogging, sports)
Eating 1300-1500 calories a day.

I know i can do it, it is just hard eating poorly is cheaper and faster mostly. Any ideas for a CHEAP and HEALTHY dinner?

so glad to be here,

PS. didiroch- my dads has diabetes and my twin sister is prediabetic- just take care of yoruself and walk, eat healthy...keep up to date appts with your doc- he will let you know if you are ok or when to worry. but good for you for being proactive!

kellykelly77 06-23-2010 12:11 PM

Fletch - I AM GOING TO DO IT! I just started Insanity on Monday - I can't afford a gym membership/personal trainer....I tried that a few years ago and I couldn't fit the gym in my schedule. Now that it's summer (I am a teacher) so I don't go back to work until the end of Aug. I have time to do this. However, yesterday, I got my wisdom teeth out and I crave nothing but food. I'm hoping to slowly get back into eating, but eating right! I am missing my workouts already.

I guess I just need to stick with this....diet, the daily log, and the forums. I need the support of everyone! It certainly helps as I look forward to coming on here each day!

Thanks everyone! good luck.

fletch8502 06-23-2010 12:52 PM

Yay, kelly! I love your positivity in all caps. =) Hope you're feeling better soon! Good soft foods: greek yogurt, applesauce, smoothies with protein powder, frozen fruit, and 100% juice, mashed sweet potato, cottage cheese... lots of options besides ice cream. =) What is Insanity? I haven't heard of that before. I'm a teacher, too! However, my school is year-round so we're still in session. You can and will stick with this...you can do it! Enjoy the start of your summer!!!

How's everyone else doing? Have a great day!

Roxyewp2010 06-24-2010 02:13 AM

I joined Fit Day a little over a week ago. After the first week I got on the scale, and was very disapointed to learn that I had gained 0.8 lbs. I have been running every other day and have made a much more conscience effort to watch what I eat. I have consumed more raw fruits and vegetables in the last 10 days then I have in thewhole last year . I have given up the large portions of pasta I dearly love and swapped it for loads of chicken, grilled chicken. I have also denied myself the wonderful right to put cheeese on anything and drastically cut yogurt and milk for other alcium rich foods like spinach. Despite the 0.8lb weight gain I stuck with it. Today I got back on the scale and I have officially lost my first three pounds. I am at an even 200 and the next time I get on here I should be below that mark which feels amazing. The last time I was below 200 I had just given birth to my daughter who is now 3 years old. Although I haven't seen a difference in the way my clothes fit yet, I am looking forward to seeing that change!

Farah good job hun. I'm so proud of you. I haven't weighed myself yet because I'm kind of scared of the scale. But I do weigh myself once a month because I know within the month I have to lose something, even if it's 1 pound. LOL!!!

Congrats! Keep it up. ;)

I know how you feel ... I tend to weigh myself every 2 weeks - as I'm not a fan of my scale either ... always worried that I didn't "Pee" enough that day or something stupid like that ...

fletch8502 06-25-2010 01:45 PM

Awesome work, farah!!! That's so exciting!!! Are you doing something fun to celebrate? Just keep plugging along...120's will be here before you know it! =) Congrats!

farahb7 06-25-2010 04:01 PM

Thank you vickytoria and fletch!!! this is such a good feeling, better than any celebration, but still to make it official, i did some shopping too!:)

kellykelly77 06-26-2010 12:17 AM

Farah - WONDERFUL JOB! It's gets me excited to hear other great stories. I lost 2 pounds this week because I had to cut my food intake - stupid wisdom teeth but yay for the 2 lbs! : )

Fletch - thanks so much. That's awesome you're a teacher too. I think we will eventually go to year-round schooling as well. I will have to try some of your suggestions. I have a picnic today so I know that I get to rule out all of the potato chips and unhealthy snacks that are too hard to chew! : )

Have a good weekend all! Keep up the good work everyone!

mshacka 06-28-2010 01:31 AM

Hey Ladies, I started fitday.com yesterday. I have been walking 5 miles a day and weight training 3 times a week and yoga 1 day a week. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks now and I haven't seen any change. Friend told me to go on here and check it out. I see I am supposed to eat less then I have been. I thought I was eating better but I guess not good enough. I will try this out and see if it helps. I weigh 169 lbs and am only 5 foot 1. Is there a place on here for menus or meal plans? I cook real well so keeping my cals under 1000 is going to be hard. Do any of you really put showering as an activity?

traceymc1985 06-28-2010 08:59 AM

gethlthy10 06-28-2010 04:11 PM

Hi All

Hi Everyone, I'm new here just registered today. I used to be on this site a while back but switched to the daily plate, but its very slow. So lets see. I'm 47, 5' 2" and 237 lbs. I lost 41 lbs last year getting down to 199 and ofter being laid off in October of 2009 I started to gain it all back. This weight is not good for my body, I'm sluggish, tired all the time and I just feel icky. I've been a little depressed since the job loss, hurt my back and went on a regiment of steriods and the weight just starting coming back from there. I have so many excuses for why I gained the weight back that this forum isn't big enough. But anyway, I'm back to work, I need to keep moving forward. Not having a job has been stressful on me, but it has not been the end of the world for me and my family. When I worked I was seeing a dietician so that helped alot with the weight loss, but when I lost my job my medical went away and so did seeing the dietician.

My goals is to lose the 37 lbs I now carry on my body. I went to the gym today and worked out for an hour and half which is what I used to do before I got lazy. I also used to walk the track for two miles at my local high school. I just quit everything a few months ago. So here I am, just trying to pull it together again. Wish everyone much success!

traceymc1985 06-28-2010 11:11 PM

Welcome gethlthy10!!!! We are all in this together so always keep posting how your feeling good or bad and we are here for you!
I was doing good yesterday and was still better than i have been over the past fortnight. Although i did allow myself a couple of biscuits with a cup of tea while watching tv late last night. But 2 is ok as long as its not the whole packet and its within my allowance.
While the kids and fiance had homemade lean burgers i had a low fat mushroom omelette which i really enjoyed. Nice to add different things to my diet so i dont get bored. Im now going to buy a new food every week to add to my diet!
I made myself have cereal for breakfast this morning which i rarely have-only because once i start eating i dont stop so i usually eat later in the day. This is probably why i get the cravings late evening so im trying to eat a bit more through the day! We will see how it works out tonight.
Have good day everyone!

kellykelly77 06-30-2010 02:12 AM

gethlthy10 - welcome! It is nice being here. I've only been a member for almost a month and it's so positive! It certainly has helped me. I've struggled for almost 10 years now to get off my weight that has been gradually adding up. I'm on the right path and the support here is amazing. I wish you luck!

gethlthy10 06-30-2010 02:52 PM

Thanks!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Its very much appreciated!

Can anyone help? I have been walking on my treadmill and the time and calories burned are different between this web site and my machine. How do I put that down for activities?

iceland77 07-01-2010 05:53 AM

newbie here

Good afternoon ladies!

I'm a newbie to this site and I just started Atkin's yesterday. The reason?? Well, after reviewing some photos from last weekend's shindig, I noticed how uncomfortably big I've become. Jeez, the last time I was this big was perhaps sophomore year in college. I'm 5'4.5" (yes, that extra half inch counts!), 28yrs old, 168 lbs, and a size 10 (maybe a 12.... I'm absolutely refusing to go up a size). Hahaa. I usually carry my weight well, but those pics were damaging -- now I definitely look my weight.

Any way, I love this thread and the posters on it. You gals are amazing! Please let me join. :) I have about 30-35 lbs to take off. All I know is that I want to be back to a size 4 (I was about 136lbs). I loved being a size 4; plus, I was uber-healthy. All the cute clothes on sales-racks were a size 4, since it seems people prefer being either a size 6 or are trying to get to a size 2.

So, here's my first posting of stats:

1/7/10: 168/size 10 (or 12)
Goal: 136/size 4

p.s. One good thing about being at this weight, is that you burn calories faster when working out. lol. Just trying to keep it positive.

I would most likely go by what the treadmill says. Here on fitday its kind of hard to determine if I walked 3.0 mph or walked for excersize. LOL!!! I don't know the difference. So I just use the 3.0 mph.

Whatever the treadmill says on the calories try to add or minus 10 extra minutes until its almost exactly the same. Its the calories burned that counts. Not the time it took.

That's what I would do.

MsShacka,

You shouldn't push your caloric intake so low. Your body may go into starvation mode and you will still end up as you are now, stuck. I would recommend ( I'm no expert so don't hold me accountable ) 1500 calories a day (since your so active or maybe even more) and try to eat every 2 hours. Your metabolism will shoot up and you'll start noticing the weight coming off again. But, it has to be healthy, small portions of food, try not to drink sodas. Eliminating sodas helped me lose 5 LBS in 1 week and I wasn't even exercising.

Good luck.

farahb7 07-02-2010 01:48 AM
