Motivational Thread Starting 2/14/10

Welcome back vets and welcome newbies :D. Let's throw it down this week and rise to the challenge! What are your goals for the week?

jhowar16 02-13-2011 07:40 PM

Yay post number 2!

Hey everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

I FINALLY got the Ab Lounge set up, as well as bought as The Biggest Loser game for the Kinect and let me say, in the few hours of playing it- it's already kicking my butt! But in a good way =)

The boyfriend loved his BB Gun and fired off a few test rounds in our basement at our old tv box =P
Didn't get around to the Fortune Cookies though but definitely a Christmas idea!

Goals for this week:

Diet and such:
1. Drink 96 oz of Water a day, try for an extra 32-
2. Exercise once a day (at least) with Biggest Loser
3. Workout with the Ab Lounge 10 min a day- add more minutes later
4. Stick to 1,300-1,400 calories per day.
5. Burn more Calories than eaten by at least 1,000 Cal difference

Non diet and such:
1. Buy a scale
2. College and blaah stuff
3. Sort out the room - (iffy)

MunaAmin 02-13-2011 09:14 PM

Hi all,
first, let me say that I love you guys, esp. CJ, almeeker and mern and all of those who read many posts and reply to several people in one go. Even if it is just one sentence, it's great support to see that someone noticed you, read what you had to say and spared a moment to write something nice just for you.

It's Monday and I have this usual world is great feeling. We had a party last night. There's a group of friends who meet at my place every now and then. Last night we had about 10 adults and about 14kids, 5 of them under 2y so it was massive as you can imagine. But it was great fun.

I found a swimming pool that opens on Saturday 6pm-9pm just for women! So I'm going swimming on Saturday, if all goes well. I can't wait :) I haven't swum for at least 3 years.

New week, new goals:
1) eat under 2000kcal
2) exercise with the help of my new personal trainer (esp. abs)
3) burn between 2500-2700kcal
4) drink more water
5) change my exercise to 4 weekly sessions of 20min bike + 40 min DVD

mtlgirl 02-13-2011 11:59 PM

Hi Everyone!

I want to echo what Muna said about the support that is shared here. I can't thank each of you enough. There is so much participation that sometimes I can barely keep up but there is such a great vibe here and this thread - and each of you - really really do keep me motivated! Thanks!

A brand new week brings new challenges, new opportunities and my new goals (some not so new.)

Health & fitness goals:

1. Eat between 1300-1550 calories per day
2. 30 Day Shred workout 4X
3. Run 3X

5. Take multivitamin
6. Get minimum 7 hours of sleep

~ get back to my routine in organizing my house.

really busy day today with work. i hope to check back in on my lunch break.

cjohnson728 02-14-2011 12:38 AM

Muna, it is good to see you post that you're feeling good today. You've had such stress lately, I'm glad you have a bit of a reprieve :).

I am going to take a while to think about my goals and try to focus more on my mindset this week, so I'll post later. Stacey, Rose, Muna, and Jess...great lists ("college & blah stuff" - I just love that) and I know y'all will nail this week!

Lizzycritter 02-14-2011 12:46 AM

Did OK last week, kept up on the food log, got the taxes done, and yesterday took the DD to her favorite restaurant (Red Lobster, she's loved crab legs since age 3), then Maggie Moo's for ice cream, and Toy Story 3 with Grandma in tow, so that covers "something special for her birthday" I think. I did not exercise, aside from work/housework. So, this week...

1) maintain the log
2) keep up on the forums
3) get off my butt!!

It's above freezing today, hopefully that continues and I can do #3 outside:D

almeeker 02-14-2011 12:54 AM

Happy Valentines Day to everyone. I don't have time to read all the posts this morning bcs I have to get off to work, but will catch up tomorrow. Continue all the good work!

Today's goal is to stay out of the discount chocolate bins! I love nothing more than chocolate AND a bargain!

Last week was very successful for me. I didn't meet a few of my daily goals, but things got better toward the end of the week when I was feeling better (cold). I did meet and beat my weekly weight goal regardless.

Diet/Fitness goals
1) 1600 cal/day, under 30% fat

Personal Project Goals:

3: Sort Clothes: No
4. DONATE CLOTHES: Not Yet...

cjohnson728 02-14-2011 02:27 AM

Well, I'm going to shift focus this week as opposed to getting bogged down in numbers, so I'm thinking outside the box with the goals:

1. Balance the pie chart (no numbers, just balance).
2. Sleep 7 hours a night.
3. Turn off all the electronics at least half an hour before bed, and read.
4. Exercise outside one day this week, preferably two.
5. Exercise at least once this week with friends and/or family members.
6. Incorporate a stretching/flexibility workout into the mix twice this week.
7. Dress nicely and make an effort at minimal makeup even if not working that day; the pushed-for-time grad student look is old now.
8. Do an at-home mani-pedi this week (this is something I won't spend money on).
9. Use my gift card from Christmas to buy something for myself that is not entirely practical.
10. List two things daily that I didn't/couldn't/wouldn't do before that now I do, can, and will.

And of course, with a nod to reality:

11. One office organizational task daily.
12. One room's trim painted by the end of the weekend.
13. Keep working on short, mid and long range financial plans with hubby.

Mern 02-14-2011 02:46 AM

Everyone, I've belonged to three other weight loss support websites since 2002 and this is the most motivating and supportive one of all. I truly believe that with the help of this group, I WILL make goal this time. Oh, how I wish I could keep up with all the posts, but this is such an active group. I thank everyone for the support I've received so far.

Jess, your great goals should get you to 130 by June 1st ish since you're willing to work so hard at it.

Muna, I love this group, too. Sounds like a great party last night. Yay on the Saturday swimming and on your new goals.

Rose, woohoo on keeping those goals challenging!

Stacey, we're all rooting for you. You can do this.

Cassie, your stats and weeks maintaining are so motivating. I'll have to remember when I reach goal that maintaining takes thought, goals, and work, too. Thinking outside the box keeps life more interesting. Let us know what you bought with your gift card. :)

LazyCritter, start with baby steps on the exercise if you need to. That's what I'm doing. But I see from your stats you've made great accomplishments so far. Congrats on that.

Almeeker, the list lady. Whew! Best wishes to the busiest lady I know! Your stats are awesome, too. I'm 64 years old and want to be like you when I "grow up."

Sandi! You beat your weekly weight goal! Congrats! Regardless of how you got there, we all know you worked hard--the weight didn't just fall off all by itself.

mhibdon, hang in there. You can do it! Just getting to the gym is half the battle.

My turn:
Lost 2 1/2 lbs. last week, so that totals a 10 1/2 lb. loss since I joined this group January 17.

Goals for this week: some standard and some new:
Calorie limit 1600
Carbs less fiber limit 25g
New protein goal: at least 110g per day
Water: 64 oz. per day
New exercise goal: add a minute at a time to achieve 25 minutes aerobic walking at 4 MPH by Saturday. That will earn me another day off exercise

cjohnson728 02-14-2011 03:07 AM

Congrats on getting down to the next "decade," Mern! Just noticed that!

Mern 02-14-2011 04:19 AM

Thanks, Cassie! :D

blackrhino2 02-14-2011 05:08 AM

Happy St. Valentine's Day to everyone! Instead of this day just being a hallmark holiday w/ the opposite sex, I'm trying to take some time and note personality traits that I love about myself.

My healthy living goals for this week are to continue what I have been doing these past few weeks:
-track, stay w/in WW points allowance
-aim to have the majority of my food journal be healthy, power foods
-cardio workout for 30 min 3X per week and put equal effort into doing weights
-note that Fri. and Sat. night will be spent out at restaurants with friends and leave extra points for those meals. Also, eat something before dinner so that I am not too hungry when reading the menu.

blackrhino2 02-14-2011 05:13 AM

p.s. I should I have introduced myself! I was on Fitday for a while and then dropped off around Xmas bc I was traveling (and eating tons). Now I'm back and hope to check in every other day and help to support you all. I currently weigh 130 and lost a little over 20 pounds almost 5 yrs ago through doing WW w/ my mom. I'm hoping to lose another 3 pounds by March 15th.

Jennybeeb 02-14-2011 06:15 AM

Happy Valentine's Day everyone, and Hello :)

Since I seem to be lacking in the self-motivation department, I have finally decided to join you!

Here are my goals for this week -

Health/Fitness Goals:
1. Eat between 1200-1400 cals/Day
2. Get at least 7 hrs of sleep/night
3. Consume 100oz. of Water/Day
4. Take Fish Oil & Rosehip Supplements
5. Exercise with EA Active for Playstation 3x/Week (Tues, Thurs, and Sat)
6. Limit myself to 1 Diet Coke/Day

Other Life Goals:
1. Do 1 load of laundry per day & Freecycle clothes no longer needed/wanted
2. Clean Bathroom & Clear out Bathroom Cabinet (Monday night)
3. Clean Kitchen for 20 minutes (Tuesday Night)
4. Vacuum & Mop Dining Room & Kitchen, also take out trash (Wed. Night)
5. Send out Wedding Save The Dates (Thurs Night)
6. Complete Budget for March 2011 (Friday Night)

I am really hoping that I can stick with the forum, and stay motivated...I have somehow managed to let myself gain 10lbs. over the last 5 months! (I have not been watching what I have been eating, and I am supposed to be LOSING weight - argh!)

Kumochi 02-14-2011 06:21 AM

10. List two things daily that I didn't/couldn't/wouldn't do before that now I do, can, and will.

Can I steal that one Cassie? That's a great motivator.

As well I plan to keep on track with Journaling everything

Exercise at least 30 minutes 5 days out of 7.

Keep the calories below 1600 till Sunday, 2000 on Sunday

Try on some of my smaller clothes

Make a plan for next week so I will be prepared for a week babysitting grandkids and the temptation to slack off.
- make list of healthy food to take with me
- plan menus
- locate Y
- check out physical activities for while kids are in school
-weather permitting walk kids to school 2 of the 3 days I can.

Mary

mambogirl81 02-14-2011 06:48 AM

3. Exercise and really mean it!
4. In bed at a reasonable hour.
5. Log all my food-every bite.

non diet related

7. Work on getting my costume together for upcoming dance competition.
8. Help kids be more responsible for keeping their rooms clean.

jhowar16 02-14-2011 07:15 AM

Oh yes I keep forgetting today is Valentine’s Day because I celebrated it yesterday lol so Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Enjoy it! Whether single or dating or married!

Muna – I’m having that same feeling today too and maybe it’s because Spring is on its way and I am finally exercising and not afraid to do it! Lol but I agree, without EVERYONE in this thread and their support I would have fallen off the trail when I first started and almost did until I found this thread =)

Cjohnson - Lol yea that’s how I feel about it, I only get 2 days off a week and sometimes only one so I feel like I don’t have enough time to do anything and all I want to do is be with my boyfriend but I really do need to bunker down and call the College and figure out my other College..we’ll see lol

Almeeker – Why the Mascara 5x may I ask? I hardly use it myself and mostly stick to eyeliner and that’s usually certain occasions. But when I don’t wear make up I look tired and like a zombie lol or maybe I just need a tan

Mern
– Thank you! I’m hoping so too and now I KNOW I can! I got the Biggest Loser for the Xbox Kinect and my boyfriend is doing this with me! Mind you it is very strenuous-especially for me, who hardly ever works out (besides walking) but I’m so excited my boyfriend is going to work out with me AND start counting his Calories =) but he may need my help because it can be confusing for some one who has never paid attention to serving sizes before. And I’m working out at least once a day now and did so for about 4 hours last night lol I think I can keep with it. I can feel the burn in my legs already.. phew!

Blackrhino2 – Well welcome back! Hope you get to your goal and then some here =)

Jennybeeb – And welcome! We can all help keep you motivated! And if you need a buddy to keep you on track just let me know! It’s always easier to do it with a friend or some one else who is in the same boat.

Mambogirl18
– Keep with it! Like I told Jenny if you have others helping you out to hold you accountable for things it’s much easier!

Jennybeeb 02-14-2011 08:37 AM

Thank you so much for the welcome! I am hoping that everyone here can keep me motivated. I definitely need someone to check in with throughout the week to keep me honest! lol My fiance usually says he would love to eat healthier and try to lose weight with me, but he kind of plays by his own rules, so he's not really good at sticking with it all the time...lol :)

I am working on trying to get my signature set up with my stats, and then I think my food journal is all set up...that and I updated my weight goal now with my higher starting weight <sigh>

Looking forward to hopefully getting some motivation and sticking with it this time! :)

staceyalberta 02-14-2011 08:52 AM

well i wrote a long post to everyone & it seems to have gone away...~sigh~

01gt4.6 02-14-2011 09:14 AM

Oh no! =( That happened to me once.. try reposting it?
Usually I open a notepad or Word Doc to type all my long responses in and copy and paste, just to be sure it doesn't get lost or I get logged out lol

Jenny There are a variety of people in this thread and each has their own unique personality so I'm sure we'll keep you laughing and motivated! =)

lastri 02-14-2011 09:50 AM

Hi Everyone!

I had a pretty good Monday... except that my computer keeps crashing because apparently I am just working it tooooo hard. Luckily this gig ends very soon and then I'll have some time off in between jobs. I am going to Florida on March 21st so I am still working really really hard on looking better in my swim suit.

Mern, congrats on losing 2 1/2 pounds in one week! That's awesome.

Julia, welcome back! It's pretty hard not to gain weight while traveling. I know I do! It's nice to have you back with us!

I can't even feel it. With all the other pain, I guess I've been distracted from it.:D

thanks for asking.

cjohnson728 02-14-2011 03:14 PM

Well, we made it through Monday, everyone! Even if we weren't altogether successful, at least we learn something every step of the way, right?

1. Balance the pie chart (no numbers, just balance). Yep
2. Sleep 7 hours a night. Yep
3. Turn off all the electronics at least half an hour before bed, and read. No-report from last night, since tonight hasn't happened yet
4. Exercise outside one day this week, preferably two. Not today
5. Exercise at least once this week with friends and/or family members. Not today
6. Incorporate a stretching/flexibility workout into the mix twice this week. Not today
7. Dress nicely and make an effort at minimal makeup even if not working that day; the pushed-for-time grad student look is old now. Yep
8. Do an at-home mani-pedi this week (this is something I won't spend money on). Not yet
9. Use my gift card from Christmas to buy something for myself that is not entirely practical. Will be over the weekend
10. List two things daily that I didn't/couldn't/wouldn't do before that now I do, can, and will. Yep

And of course, with a nod to reality:

11. One office organizational task daily. Nope, come on; it's Valentine's Day!
12. One room's trim painted by the end of the weekend. Will have to wait for the weekend
13. Keep working on short, mid and long range financial plans with hubby. Will also wait for the weekend

Wow, all that red looks like a failure, but it was actually a great day. I had lunch with a friend, volunteered at the school, wrote half a report, and made Quinn's fortune cookies for my guys, along with chocolate covered cliches, er, strawberries. Relaxing over the calories and the ratios paid off; things balanced out without any effort. Maybe I was trying too hard before. Another lesson learned. Hope you all had a great day and enjoyed those you love!

Mike? Other pain?

jhowar16 02-14-2011 03:25 PM

I would love to take a moment and chit chat about everybody's goals, but I have to get the kids off to school, hopefully I can get back on later. I'm cracking up on the curiosity on my mascara goal, last week someone (stacey maybe?) had a goal of putting a little more effort into her appearance. I need to work on this too, motherhood can be a very frumpy business. I've been blessed with rather pretty eyeballs, and very long but completely invisible eyelashes. Mascara completely changes my face for the better, it's easy, fast and cheap. Not only that but when I wear it people tell me that I look great. So it's good for my self esteem and I would go so far as to say that those extra compliments help to keep me on track. Shallow, but true.

staceyalberta 02-15-2011 12:33 AM

Stacey, enjoy your belly dancing tonight!
