5 Tips to Keep Your Skin From Drying out During the Winter Months

Dry skin is very normal during the winter months but thankfully, by taking a few precautions, you can put dry skin problems behind you. Read on to find out how.

With the winter months now upon us, many people are going to be suffering from dry, itchy skin. It may feel like no matter what you do to combat it, it just doesn’t let up.

The fact is, there are some main reasons that your skin tends to be drier in the winter months and by addressing these main reasons head-on, you can find relief.

Let’s go over five quick tips to help you keep your skin from drying out in the months ahead.

Get A Humidifier

One of the main reasons why people suffer from dry skin during the winter is because the air in their home is a lot drier. This leads to water being sucked out of the skin and into the environment, hence dry skin.

The remedy?

Get yourself a portable humidifier and place it in the room you’re most often in. Or, if your house has a built-in humidifier, consider turning that up. Just do keep in mind that keeping your entire house too humid could increase your risk of mold growth, so be sure to tread carefully when going this route.

Avoid Hot Showers

After being outside on a cold winter day, there’s nothing quite like hopping into a nice hot shower to warm yourself up. While this may feel good on the inside, it’s not doing anything positive for your outside.

The fact is, the hotter the shower, the dryer your skin is going to be. Refrain from keeping the temperature too hot if you want to maintain your skin’s moisture.

If you want to warm up, try a warm but not hot bath. Submerging yourself in warm water will often do the trick without having to go to those very hot levels.

Add An Extra Layer Of Moisturizer

It only stands to reason that one of the best ways to combat dry skin is to add more moisturizer. But if your regular moisturizer is not doing the trick and you still have dry hands or feet, try placing a plastic bag over your hands or feet after the moisturizer has been applied. Go to sleep like this and you’ll likely find your skin is buttery soft upon waking.

Drink More Water

Drinking enough water during the winter months is also a must if you’re going to avoid dry skin at all costs. Most people aren’t drinking enough during the winter because they don’t feel themselves sweating and more importantly, they aren’t hot.

This doesn’t mean your body isn’t becoming dehydrated though. Start adding more fluids to your day and notice the positive impact it has on your skin’s health.

Get Your Vitamin E

Finally, don’t forget your vitamin E. This is one nutrient that is incredibly important to promoting dry skin so you don’t want to go without. The best food source of vitamin E for healthier skin is the avocado, so either add these to your daily intake or consider supplemental vitamin E instead.

Keeping these tips in mind, you should be able to combat dry skin this winter and find yourself great relief.
