Not a bad day overall yesterday, but I could have done a bit better. DH and I went to a neighbor’s birthday party last night and they had cake. There are only 2 kinds of cake that I do not like; carrot and German chocolate, and they served both! HOORAY, no cake for me! But I did share a Dr. Pepper with DH, so my cals went over a bit… My exercise included standing on plush carpet for 2 hours, in high-heels. My calves feel great today! Today after work is scheduled gym time – I am really looking forward to it!!!!

Goals Week of 6-11:
70oz H2O: 60,
1500 cals or less: 1556
Log every day, pre-log as much as possible: Almost (except the Dr. Pepper), Y so far.
Minimum of ½ hour exercise: Y
10 Pushups: Y
Schedule ME day (hopefully Thursday): TBD

Happy Tuesday! Ama

Started FD Jan 2012; weight 134
Current weight - week of 6/11: 127.4, 125.8
Goal: 123

Question Question about calorie intake % pie chart

Hey everybody, as I posted earlier, this week I am trying to pay more attention to my fat % (which on Atkins is not so important in the induction phase).

I started entering my breakfast with 2 eggs, whole, large which gives me:
143 calories
10g fat
13g protein

so why does the calorie intake pie chart show:
Protein 35%
Fat 63%

The only thing I can think is that there must be more calories in a fat gram than in a protein gram?

If that's the case this is gonna be harder than I thought! (but not impossible!!)

Down another pound today. Not far to my low, summer weight now. The big challenge is to stay focused when husband is home Thursday and Friday. If I can stay focused, I should meet my goal by Saturday... only to sabotage all of this hard work with thousands of calories over the weekend! lol Oh well... There's always Monday. In the middle of running errands; just stopped by to log in my lunch.

Ama,

Cake is my total weakness! Never met a cake that I wouldn't eat... as a matter of fact, there are only a couple of foods in the entire world that I won't eat. (...hence my weight issues! lol)

Cake will be the majority of my calorie downfall this weekend; chocolate raspberry truffle and almond marble made by a great friend of ours. I plan on face-planting in both, in rotation, throughout the day! lol I'm also doing strawberry shortcake, brownies, and 8-9 kinds of bars... a total healthy diet nightmare.

Hey, Cate, yeah, there are 9 calories/fat gram as opposed to 4 calories/carb or protein gram. Re: eggs - you could try egg beaters...

I, too, have been keeping a noncommittal eye on my fat percentage, particularly the saturated fats. I'm not too worried about them right now, my cholesterol and whatnot are all fine, but I do really love my half and half in my coffee - and lots of it! So, I've been trying to come up with something else I could drink mid afternoon, and I've stumbled upon Chai tea. Now, I've had chai tea lattes before, but I've kind of had to stay away from them because the one's they make at Starbucks are from concentrate, and per 12 oz. serving, have about 34 g of carbs - not so great for the ol' diabetes. Anyway, the usual is 12 oz. Americano (espresso and water) with a bunch of half and half, adding up to about 120 calories. If I order, however, "full leaf" chai tea latte, they don't make it from concentrate, but from the actual tea bag using half water and half nonfat milk. I ask for a pump of sugar free vanilla and voila! Awesome chai tea that is only 62 calories and 9 g of carbs! I'm pretty sure that makes me the winner.

You're right, Cate: as Joanna (bojibridge) said, fat has 9 calories per gram whereas carbs and protein each have 4 calories per gram.

You should have 1% (actually .5% rounded up to 1%) for those eggs which have about 1g carbs each.

FitDay always calculates my pie chart correctly. (Believe me, I've checked the math myself when I swore FitDay was wrong.) Just relax, log all your food as accurately as possible, and let FitDay do the math for you.

I do have some ground flaxseed in my cupboard which I used to throw into baking muffins, etc. but am not sure how to incorporate on induction.

How do you add it to your diet? I need to boost fibre content bcos I have had some constipation which I understand is not normal on Atkins, but I take a painkiller for my fibro so I definitely need to try and fix with diet as much as possible.
Cate, yes, that's right--I use Bob's Red Mill flaxmeal myself. Whole flaxseed passes through us undigested--so be sure you're eating the ground flaxmeal. You can grind the seeds yourself in a coffee grinder or spice grinder if you must or prefer to buy whole seeds, though.

I never did Atkins Induction, so I can't help you there. But I use flaxmeal in several different ways:

--I add it to my low carb protein shake
--I make flaxmeal muffins
--I make flaxmeal pancakes--just beaten egg to which I add artificial sweetener and flaxmeal and either cook it in a non-stick skillet or nuke it if I'm in a hurry.
--I mix it into my yogurt
--some people sprinkle it on their salads but I don't care for it that way. You could try it, though on a little bit of your salad--maybe you will enjoy it.
--To low carb shake mix I add flaxmeal and enough water to make it the consistency of fairly runny oatmeal, then nuke it for one minute and it comes out like a warm pudding. I don't measure--I just go by the consistency I like.

Joanna, I love half & half, cream, or even non-dairy creamer in my coffee. I couldn't cut down on the lightness of my coffee, so I drink half a cup of coffee with half the amount of creamer I am accustomed to. I'm that way with the sat fat in cheese, too--I'd rather eat half a slice of rich, creamy, full fat cheese than to eat a whole slice of reduced fat cheese. I'm enjoying fresh from my garden spearmint tea in the afternoon. I hope you enjoy your awesome Chai Tea! Good thinking!
