Chrispearson,
Thanks for letting us follow you on the Alli diet journey- I too was thinking of starting Alli because when logging my foods I notice that my fat intake is kinda high, I like cheese Do you have a Dollar Tree store by you? I noticed that they have the book to accompany the Alli diet pill- it is a bigger book and obviously the price if right ha-ha! I like these smiley faces can you tell?
But anyways, I may instead of using Alli go with Xenical same drug but prescription strength and I think my insurance may cover it? It is hard to increase your protien intake and lower your fats ha? I find it even harder to lower my carbs So I've been taking Carb Intercept before high carb meals like spaghetti or pizza. Thanks again for joining our group and sharing your journey with us

Hey, Christine, I was a teacher, too, back in the pre-baby days. What do you teach? That sounds like my lunchtimes, too - such funny times.

What kind of side effects does Alli cause? I know some of those diet pills cause - um, gastrointestinal side effects, if you know what I mean. It always kept me from trying them. I can't now until I finish weaning my son, which hopefully will be soon.

Everyone keep up the good work - baby steps!

Oh, yeah - MsMarilyn - what does Carb Intercept do? (I mean, besides intercepting the carbs ) How does it work?

Hi Marky's Mom:
Carb intercept with Phase 2 inhibits the enzyme responsible to digesting starch into simple sugars your body can absorb. The body absorbs simple sugars in fat stores.
Excess carbs = Excess fat. It also contains Chromium which helps metabolize fats and protiens for energy. I've used this product without any side effects. The product comes in a purple bottle and is made by Natrol. 60 capsules cost around $10 and it doesn't have to be used everyday. If you get a differant brand make sure it has Phase 2 carb controller that is the emzyme you need.

Marky'smom I teach 7th & 8th grade reading...middle schoolers tell you like it is and I love them for that. The carb control thing sounds like a good idea.l..I might try it. I have trouble with keeping my carbs low...but I eat whole grain carbs so I hope it helps. I still haven't had any of the side effects that are associated with alli...but I am really being careful with my fat intake at meals...no more than 15g per meal...I am starting to become an expert on trade offs for high fat...example...I am eating soynuts instead of chips or other nuts with my lunch...I have a cup of grapes and soy nuts instead...I like them...they remind me of popcorn kernels and they satisfy my need to crunch and my need for salt...I am a salty crunch person as opposed to a sweet chocolate eater. The soy nuts help with my protein intake too! Thus I made another day of in my calorie and fat range today Now if only I could get myself to exercise! I hurt my back over Christmas and I am afraid that exercise is going to aggrevate it even more...the funny thing is that 4 days on the diet and I am actually wanting to exercise.

Chrispearson, I taught middle school reading, too. In fact, since I got married and moved to another state, I just finished my Master's in literacy for 6-12, since I really feel for those kids who make it to middle school and still have trouble reading.

My sister used to take chromium-picolinate (?) and had good success with it. I did South Beach a couple years ago and did so well with that - I definitely need to go back to a low-carb, low-glycemic-index food plan. I'll give the carb intercept a try, like I said - after I finish weaning. I just don't want to take any chances on the little guy.

I just read the scariest stuff about Splenda - ick. It's in the chlorine family, like DDT and mustard gas - not a sugar at all. They only tested for 3 months on healthy males. They do know that it is stored in fatty tissues, like your liver or brain, but have no idea how long. It scared me enough to go throw out the splenda-using products in the cupboard. But I love my sweet stuff - anyone use stevia or truvia? How is it in baking?

Up one pound today after being down two yesterday. Even though I know it could be anything, I am still so discouraged today and fighting the urge to go put the hurt on the ice cream in the freezer. That's why I'm posting before ds is in bed - trying to talk myself down.

Marky's mom was just reading how today's wt gain was discouraging ....sometimes weighing everyday can set you up for failure if you get too discouraged. Maybe try weighing once a week or just counting the good weigh ins. Remember that as long as you're sticking with your program and feeling healthier your still ahead in the game

I'm proud of myself...another teacher asked if I wanted to make a B.K. run for lunch today and I actually said, "No." That is a first for me...but since I spend like 20 minutes getting my lunch ready every night for the next day, I didn't feel like wasting all that hard work on fast calories

Getting a little worried about weekend eating...I am able to be so good during the week b/c I have a job that regulates when I can eat and prevents snacking during the day...but on the weekends my schedule is all foobar and it is going to take some serious thought and planning to keep myself on track. Here's to hoping the weekend goes smoothly
