FitDay web autologouts too frequently (Admin monitored)

Dear admin,

Sorry, but I can't find anywhere else to post this request.

I'm not a fan of software when webware is available, so I would not be interested in fitdaypc.

fitdayweb autologouts are too frequent. Please consider allowing a user to remain logged in for a longer period such as 24 hours.

I can understand my bank autologging me out after 10 minutes, but I have never experienced autologouts with the same frequency as fitday web on any other website, and I am a member of probably 250 different sites.

I live in China where the internet is slow. The amount of time I have to sit in front of my system waiting to log into fitday web after coming back to my system after what must be less than 20 minutes is adding up to something like 5 minutes per day on the aggregate as I have to access the site many times to input all my daily foods.

Although I evaluated 5 other diet tracking sites and found fitday to suit my needs best, this autologout issue is something that is making the user experience a lot worse than I had hoped.

Many Thanks,

monnikjuh 02-21-2010 07:00 AM

hi ,

Maybe you can get faster internet ? so the tinks load faster ? Because i don't have the problem that i get sind out . I log me in like around 10 am in the morging ( i live in the Netherlands so i don't now what it is at you're place ) and mosly i log out at 22:00 pm out somethimes early but i never get sign out ? So i think that it is a problem on you're internet our computer our the system makes a mastake at my profile to let me log in all the time i don't know .

SherryDarling 02-21-2010 02:32 PM

I'm the USA and I have the same issue as you, Camineet. It does bother me quite a bit and I have a fairly fast internet connection. I've been using Firefox as my browser because it remembers the username and password and I can just resend it numerous times without having to retype it, too. But this is something I'd love to see fixed as well. It would be great to be able to log in for at least a few hours at a time. :(

I do not get it to me because in the Netherlands, I just logged in all day I just use the internet explorer not firefox defaultroute ofso. I'm just my normal set and are just that fitday.com my login details to remember and does it: S maybe normal internet explorer I'm trying here adsl? do not know whether this would make a difference?

Frustrated by fitday web

I agree ... for some reason I click 'remember password' and it never does. I think this is a fitday problem because it happens with all my different browswers but ONLY for fitday.

Camineet 02-24-2010 09:42 PM

Fitday, I'd like to ask that your developers address this issue by Friday, 3/12. Otherwise, I will have to begin exploring other available diet data entry products.

Many Thanks,

adamnorman 03-14-2010 01:24 AM

I have the same problem. I get logged out all the time with Firefox on XP and a fast net connection. And I mean all the time--within minutes sometimes.

What's up with this?

Me too. I'm on IE on a fast connection. It's really annoying because it defeats the whole purpose of the software when you can't input foods and activities easily.

Staying online

I am new, thus, these questions. Why does the Fitday window close so soon if I leave my computer for awhile? I noticed with Netflix, I seem to be able to go there without even putting in my password. I wonder if somehow this is not a good idea, with Netflix. Does this make a person more vulnerable to hackers? If not, it would be very nice if Fitday would stay open because with food, a person wants to record it right away before she forgets. Thanks for reading this. Any thoughts?

carik1945 04-24-2010 03:21 PM

Auto log out too soon

I agree with everything said here; especially with diet software, it seems silly to get logged out so fast. But it does not seem like Fitday reads these messages. If so, they would say something. I am waiting.

elderwanda 06-04-2010 03:50 PM

How do I stay logged in?

I like to bring Fit Day up in a browser and just keep it available to enter my food and exercise. If I enter my breakfast, by the time I come back to enter a mid-morning snack, it makes me log in again. Isn't there some option to keep logged on all day?

Thanks :)

m330 06-21-2010 01:16 PM

Would like to add my voice to the chorus.

Perhaps you could provide an option for the user to decide on the auto-logout time?

I can understand a financial institution having such a quick auto-logout, but not something like a diet & fitness log. It's rather tedious and makes the whole experience of using the site a bit unpleasant. I hope the staff are reading these threads and decide (soon?) that this issue is worth addressing.

fnash4 08-06-2010 05:55 AM

I thought I was the only one that would be annoyed by having to log in over and over again. I'm using Chrome and a fast internet connection.

BellaSarah2011 08-26-2010 05:12 PM

I just joined over the weekend and was wondering the same thing. It's become a bother in just a few days. I've also checked the "Save Password" box on both the homepage and my browsers settings but still have to log in every morning. Is there a way to keep me logged in consistently?

basementcat 10-06-2010 05:09 AM

I'm also curious about it. Is it a "cookies" issue?

bride120691 10-14-2010 05:52 AM

Logging in

Hi, did anyone ever figure out how to stay logged in? It is really annoying to have to do it 10 times a day!

me2forever 10-14-2010 07:02 AM

It won't let me either. And I tried not logging off and it came back up on my join day. And I posted food like a dummy till I realized something wasn't right. It is a chore.

bride120691 10-14-2010 11:37 PM

Logging in

Hello all with this annoying problem. I have just switched to a new website that doesn't have this problem: [removed]. So far it is great. It's too bad because Fit Day is a great idea and I like the site otherwise. [removed] also has tons of name brand food items already entered for you so you don't have to create so many custom foods. p.s. It's also free!

dan-anderson 10-15-2010 08:44 AM

I think I am going to move over there...

There are some cool features there too...

This one seems abandoned by the admins and dieing...

Why Login Is Not Persistent ?

I hope someone would be able to answer the following questions that I have about www.fitday.com.

1. Why do I have to log in every time I close my browser window? I do not have to do that with yahoo mail !

2. Why am I required to log in after few minutes (say 20 minutes) of non-use of the site ?

3. Why would someone design a website that would make it irritating to use ?

01gt4.6 11-08-2010 07:39 AM

good question

Hunny24 11-08-2010 07:53 AM

So complained again on their Facebook page and here is the response I got:

Our apologies but we are working on it. Creating a positive user experience is very important to us but please be patient as we continue to figure out the best way to moderate and delete the spam (and the spammers).

So I guess everyone will have to be patient and see how they plan on improving this site for all of us. Let's hope its done sooner than later folks! :)

I have submitted this question to our tech team. As soon as I have an answer for you I will let you know.

Thanks I have always wondered the same thing.

Yes I find this to be annoying as well.

Simply put, the FitDay site was originally built without an auto-login function. We are currently looking into building one.

Before I can answer this I need some clarification. Are you speaking specifically about the forums, the main site (My Fitness Journal/My Home) or both?

[email protected] 11-11-2010 01:55 PM

@IBAngel: I am talking about the www.fitday.com. It is about any page, doesn't matter. Whetrher I am at the Food tab, or Activities Tab, or any tab for that matter, I am logged out only after a few minutes of INactivity.

Very frankly, there's no need to log me out. Your technical team knows how to solve this problem. It is literally ONE SECOND thing to fix. All they have to change is the cookie expiration in their software code. Yes, it is only a ONE SECOND matter for them to fix.

I appreciate you taking interest on this issue and helping us, the loyal users, to get rid of this annoying feature(!), thereby making the site more useful to all.

elsb53 11-15-2010 07:28 AM

I agree

I am new to Fit Day and just came from ediets where you are logged in continually - highly inconvenient to be logging in all the time.

Vueiy 11-15-2010 10:33 AM

Looking forward to a "Stay Logged In" option!

changeisgood29 11-16-2010 08:31 AM

I'm also responding with my vote for a 'Remember Me/Stay Logged In" function. Without question, this is the most frustrating thing about FitDay to me (ok, except for that time we had all the spam). ;) Thanks for the help, Amber.

I agree, and it's sad because the site has so much promise, but some major usability issues, namely:

1. Having to log in 10x/day
2. Inability to set your timezone - I'm on Pacific time and apparently the site assumes everyone is on Eastern. So many times I've entered food on the wrong day.
3. Print version should show the date that you're printing! Otherwise how are you supposed to tell them apart?
4. Food sort should not be case-sensitive, that's just silly.
5. There should be a way to copy a custom food and just change a few things, then save it as a new custom food.
6. Search should look for matches in my Custom Foods and Recent Foods, as well as the fitday database.

At least for me that's really all it would take to make the site perfect. I'm sure others have different issues. But I don't think any of these are gigantic tasks (I'm a computer programmer - feel free to contact me if you need help!)

As it is I don't know how the site can expect anyone to shell out for the premium site or PC software, since it seems development has stopped on the website.

1. I can see where that could be an inconvenience for some, personally it doesn't bother me b/c I log in to everything b/c I have my computer set to NOT save history. This is one of the many things that we are working on.
2. You can set your time zone. (user cp>edit options>date and time options)
3. That would be nice, but if you are printing them... why not just write the date on it?
4. I totally agree
5. I honestly don't see this being possible, but I could be wrong.
6. I can pass this on to see if that could be changed.

I guess everyone has there own sense of what would make this site perfect. Many have already put in their requests/ voiced their opinions and one by one things are changing... for the better. I'm sure many other member can attest to that.

To be honest, I don't think that FitDay EXPECTS anyone to pay for the premium or PC version, but we do OFFER it, if someone chooses to.

The fact that you think that development has stopped tells me that you really don't know that it's only just begun.

dan-anderson spoke 2 months ago about the abandonment of admin, back then they may have been true. But like I said things are changing and HAVE changed.

All we ask is to be patient, it's as if the flood gates have opened with requests in the last 2 months. Some changes may seem simple on the surface but are much more complicated.

Also keep in mind that we get multiple requests DAILY... not including your 6 that you just posted.

Welcome to the site suzzer99. :)

Since your join date is this month and today is your first post you may not have seen the recent changes made to the site.

I think that Fitday has been great with so many of us "free members" making request. Both IBAngel and 01gt4.6 have worked hard to improve this site in a very short time.

I have to agree that it would be nice to be able to stay logged into our food journals 24/7. But I like the case sensitivity. I list my everyday food in lowercase and less often foods in caps. I don't think I would like sifting through the food database looking for my custom foods though. :(

01gt4.6 12-13-2010 12:47 PM

thank you beach girl. :)

01gt4.6 12-13-2010 04:31 PM

after looking at it I think the time zone for the food log and forums are different. I didn't see a way to change it for the food log. I'll have to see what admin can do about changing that.

suzzer99 12-14-2010 05:31 AM

Hi beachgirl/01gt4.6, thanks for the response. I haven't posted in the forums before. But I've been using fitday off and on since 2007. I checked all of the issues I posted in my list and none of them have changed. Regarding some of the issues:

1. Log in, has been discussed. I'm sure this is a configurable option somewhere. At least only having to log in once a day would be nice. Plenty of non-secure sites like this one just let the user stay logged in all the time.

2. Timezone - yes please look into that. The ability to set your own timezone, or just have the software pick it up automatically (as a lot of sites do now), would be great. Often I'll start entering a day's worth of food after 9pm, only to realize it all went to the next day (tomorrow).

3. Print version has no date (or any way to tell different days apart). Yes I can write the date of the food log on it when I print it, but why would I want to/have to do that? Sometimes I will want to print up 2 weeks worth of days to go show to a nutritionist or something. it's pretty easy to get them mixed up w/o a date on them. It's obvious someone spent a lot of time getting a lot of information formatted nicely onto the print version, leaving off the date just had to be an oversight imo. This is such a no-brainer to me that it's what originally made me think the site must just be in zombie mode. I'm very glad to hear that it is not and you guys are still working on things.

4. Case sensitivity. This one is no big deal, I can live with either way. If some people like it then fine.

5. Copying custom food. Basically when you go to edit a custom food, and change the name, it could just give you the option to save as a new food or change the name of the existing custom food. In that way you could just start with a similar food and change a few things, w/o having to enter all of the information over again. I have needed to do this many times.

6. Search custom and maybe recent foods. This is a nice to have. But when you get a large list of custom foods, it would be a lot easier if you could search them vs. just list them. As far as sifting through the custom foods database, it would be pretty easy to break it down into sections - one for your custom foods, the other for the whole database (and maybe even one for your recent foods).

Thanks for the quick replies, glad to hear you guys are still on the case.

-Matt

01gt4.6 12-14-2010 08:24 AM

Matt,

I think the log in is one of our focuses right now. I'll see if I can esculate this up.

debbew 01-06-2011 08:53 PM

Staying logged in?

Whenever I want to enter a meal, I have to log in again. I find that pretty annoying. Is there any way to stay logged in? If not, I'd love to see that feature added. :)

bybs 01-10-2011 10:19 AM

staying logged in?

Not sure where to ask or post this....but

is there anyway that I can stay logged in for an extended period of time. It seems like a bit of a hassle to have to log in each time i visit my page during the same day. Any ideas? Thank you and love the site! :)

I tried the contact us but it would come up at all.

lanzisunshine 01-10-2011 11:40 AM

I agree. There's even a little box to check that says stay logged in and I check it and it doesn't work. :(
