For reasons of security, no. Sorry.
Regards, Michael Wouldn't it cover all concerns to have a "leave me signed in all day" checkbox? Or does forcing signon bump up the unique visitors stat or something like that that helps with advertising (which is fine also). |
Nope, doesn't help with stats -- tech is however exploring a "reminder" feature similar to what banks use, to ask you if you want to STAY signed on, rather than just bumping you off.

I have to enter my password a lot
Why do I have to enter my password multiple times daily? Every couple of hours or so when I eat something I have to type my password even though I've selected "Remember me."
|
Very irritating!
Like the above posts - I'm finding it close to crazy-making to have to log in over, and over, and over - breakfast, lunch, dinner, and anything in between - I'm not closing out of site - maybe walking away - and then I return, might need to enter food or recalculate - only when doing so suddenly reverts back to log-in page and I have to start over. This is the ONLY site like this that seems to do this. Livestrong does not - others don't. There are features on fitday I like but I'm beginning to search out other options. To say - generically - it's a "security issue" is ridiculous. Why would my walking away for 10 minutes, to then return to my laptop - risk security!!!
Please fix this. It is not a 'feature' but a 'bug' - |
Hello,
This issue is being addressed and will be resolved in the next iteration of FitDay -- which is coming very soon! Paul |
FitDay.com won't keep me logged in
This website is currently the ONLY one (out of at least a dozen) that I multiple times a week -- well, except for financial sites -- that will not "remember" me when I start my computer back up and revisit the page. And I hit the "remember me" checkbox every time I log in. Everywhere else I visit, every new day, I am already logged in. When all I want to do right now is log my weight each day, this is extremely frustrating.
I would welcome any advice you have. I am on Firefox 5.0. |
Is it not remembering your username?
|
I am having the same problem as Cali2010.
Most times it remembers my user name but not the password. The other day, yesterday I think,it didn't even remember my username. I have logged in several times in the last 24 hrs and it requires my password every time. I also hit the "remember me" button every time :( |
I am glad to see a thread on this. I would really like to be able to stay logged in. I was able to save my password within the browser, but with whatever changes fitday made, I have to log in every time. I know there are bigger things to worry about in this world, but I do notice my eating and logging of food is effected by how accessible this site is or isn't. Strange, but true.
|
This should be resolved. Tech has updated the page so that the "Remember Me" checkbox will default to "checked" when the user has previously selected the option.
Paul |
No, it's not resolved.
Ticking the 'remember me' box still makes no difference. |
Login requirement.
Hi,
I would like the option to stay logged in forever and never enter my password again. Both Yahoo and Hotmail have this option that they will remember my password for a month or more. They occasionally make me log in, but not every hour or so. I personally don't think my eating habits need to be that secure and find it more frustrating to constantly be logging in. It's especially tough to do so with the iphone app and the small keyboard. Please give me the option to save my username/password and stay logged on indefinitely. Also, I have tried all of the calorie counters and I always come back to fitday. FitDay has the best reports. You do a great job. Thanks, Robby |
Is everyone having this problem still? Your login name is not being remembered?
Can you tell me what browser/version you're using? |
If I'm on the forum side for a while and move to the food side my login name is there but I still have to enter my password.
|
Not resolved for me either. I'm using Firefox. It remembers my username and has auto-checked remember me. But it doesn't remember me! Would love to see this fixed as it is really my only complaint.

Carrie,
This is the desired functionality. We can't log a user in without their password -- users still have to login to each session. You need to enable a 3rd-party browser-based password keeper for that. We are exploring the ability to stay logged in to the forums in the future. Stay tuned. Paul |

I can leave for hours and when I come back I am still logged in. It is only the food journal that requires me to sign back in. I would guess that is a security feature? |

Security on this site is very very tight, even by comparison to other IB sites, which is saying something. We have discussed a user option coupled with a "do you want to stay logged in?" reminder, but it has to be vetted a bit more before we could add it as an option. I'll keep you posted.

LOL. I ate a Black Forrest Ham and Swiss Cheese hoagie today. Shame on me! Hey, it's all about portion control, logging, and hitting the numbers, right? :D Anyway, I just wanted to state that I'm using Camino as my browser (Mac) and while my username is remembered for the food journal, my password is not. This version of Camino uses the Gecko engine, the same as FireFox 3.6. |
Well, we had IN N Out burger at the company picnic today, so we're all busted.
Vito, that is the intended functionality; if you want your password remembered you'll have to enable that at your browser (Firefox is really good at that). Paul |
Just signed up and this is really bothering me as well. It logs out so frequently it's often within the same browing session.
Also, it should have absolutely nothing to do with your internet connection speed. It's an issue with cookies. |
Auto logout a pain when I want to update data several times a day
This is getting really annoying. I like to update my data several times a day - for everything I eat, when I eat it; for every activity I do, when I do it. I have to log in every time!!!!
It has nothing to do with internet connection, and nothing to do with browser type. It has everything to do with website code / server configuration. Does anyone read these emails other than the users!?!?!?!?!?!? Very frustrated. |
Yes it is rather annoying but not unbearable. Maybe they will fix it....one day. ;)
|
There are two cookies each with a thirty minute time out. They are updated when you request a fitday web page. You can use a cookie manager to remove the timeout / expiry. I am using Cookies Manager for Firefox.
Unfortunately, since the cookie is refreshed every time you load a new page it will overwrite the expiry time you set. This means that you can't just change the expiry time at the start of a session. If you remove the expiry after the last page load before you take a break then it works. So: . get yourself a nice web browser like Firefox . load a cookie manager like Cookies Manager+ for Firefox . log onto fitday . use fitday . use cookie manager to remove the expiry date on _ibcv and __utmb . stop using fitday for as long as you want . return to fitday and use it . continue .. and remove the expiry date immediately prior to each break I hope this innocent information helps and doesn't get me thrown off by the thought police .. if they are reading this. |
That's a great tip, howitzer!

Ok, scrap that, it doesn't work!

Auto logout far too frequent
The auto logout is set to something like 30 minutes. If you're like me and you have access to the web most of the day then you will want to update food and activities numerous times during the day. Every time you come back to the site after thirty minutes you have to log in again - what a pain!!!!!
 I really wish that you would change it. There are a lot of other people feel the same - though the thread is maybe on the wrong forum .. http://www.fitday.com/fitness/forums...-frequent.html Please help us .. .. |
I sent an email to [email protected] asking for a response on the thread. I agree with others: this looks like a bug rather than a feature and it could easily be fixed by changing the expiry on the cookies.

Hi all,
Spoke with the developers a few moments ago. The next version of FD will include a notification when the site is about to log you off, like banks do ("you have been inactive, do you wish to stay logged on?"). That's for the food logging part of the site. For the forums, you will be able to stay logged in indefinitely. Paul |

Hopefully it will only prompt ONCE and then leave the person logged in for a few hours at least before prompting again. Prompting every 15 minutes won't be too cool either. ;) |

Same as with a bank -- security. Prevents someone from wandering over to your computer while you're logged in forever and seeing your data.

So it should be the members who control the level of security they require on their own data. No? |

Plus, if you leave your computer unlocked for long periods in a public place you're leaving your email, documents etc etc open to theft. The security issue here is "leaving your session unlocked and unattended in a place where there are people you don't trust", not "one website not logging me out after 30 minutes of inactivity, during which anything could have happened". Just my 2c, but I'd say trust your members and make the site more usable. |
Seems to have been fixed .. .. holding my breath .. .. can anyone else confirm!?
|
In "Classic" FD, should be indefinite now.
New Fitday will allow you to select how long to stay logged in, including indefinite. paul |
