A high protein diet plan is one of the most popular diet plans and has been for some time. There are a number of specific plans on the market, and while they are all a little different, they have the same basic tenants and the same basic results. Depending on what the goal of the diet is, there are different approaches you can take.

Targeting Weight Loss

If you are working toward the goal of general weight loss, then there are many benefits you can get from a high protein diet plan (as long as you follow the plan closely). The idea behind this type of plan is adding extra protein to your diet, while severely limiting the amount of carbohydrates you ingest. This will force the body to create ketones, which help to inhibit hunger and can force the body to break down fat stores at a higher rate than normal.

There are some concerns over this type of weight loss plan as it can make some people severely nauseous due to the ketone production as a result of a low carb diet. Removing carbohydrates from the diet can also severely limit the amount of vitamins and essential nutrients the body needs for good health and function. Taking vitamin supplements is an important part of this form of diet plan.

Incorporating Protein into Your Diet

Some healthy, protein-rich options include:

  • Meats
  • Fish
  • Nuts
  • Vegetables
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Yogurt
  • Cheese
  • Some beans
  • Some legumes

FitDay tracks proteins so you know exactly what to eat and when to eat it.

Breakfast Is A Great Place To Start

Since breakfast is the first meal of the day, it is also a great place to start your high protein diet plan. Here is an easy breakfast that will get your new diet off to a great start:

  • 3 eggs cooked with with ½ cup spinach (or other veggies) and 1 cup of sliced raw mushrooms, sautéed
  • 1 small slice cantaloupe

This will give you the protein you need, along with vitamins and minerals giving you plenty of energy as well.

A Bodybuilding, High Protein Diet Plan

If you ask a bodybuilder how important protein is to their workout and diet regimen, you will probably get your eat talked off for hours. Bodybuilders are well aware of how important protein is to a successful workout and weight gaining plan, however, they need to eat carbohydrates as well. Carbohydrates are important to the growth of muscles following a workout.

This is a key difference between a high protein, low carb weight loss plan and a high protein, specific carb weight gain plan.

Depending on the target for a diet, a high protein diet plan can work for people who want to lose weight or gain muscle. It all depends on the end goal and the determination of the dieter.
