8 Healthy Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to get more fruits and vegetables into your diet. They're made with yogurt, whey powder or soy milk and are also high in protein. These smoothies are both delicious and healthy.

1) Green Tea Antioxidant Smoothie

This smoothie contains 125 calories and about 1.5 grams of fat. It makes a quick and tasty breakfast. You'll need:

  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 medium banana
  • 3/4 cup fortified soy milk
  • 1 bag green tea
  • 3 tbsp water

Heat the water in your microwave and brew the tea bag in it for three minutes. Remove the bag and stir the honey into the hot water until it dissolves. Put the blueberries, banana and soy milk into your blender. Add the tea and honey mixture, and then blend for about 30 seconds or until smooth.

2) Strawberry Kiwi Vitamin C Boost

Put the following ingredients into your blender and blend for about 30 seconds or until smooth:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 sliced kiwi fruit
  • 1 1/2 tsp honey
  • 5 frozen strawberries
  • 1 1/4 cups cold apple juice
3) Tropical Smoothie

This smoothie contains yogurt, for protein and calcium, and flaxseed, which serves as a thickener. You'll need:

  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1 tsp coconut extract
  • 1 tsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 chunked papaya
  • 1 cup low fat plain yogurt

Put all of the ingredients into your blender and blend for about 30 seconds, or until smooth.

4) Peach Ice Cream Smoothie

This smoothie uses low fat vanilla ice cream, and makes a delicious dessert. You'll need:

  • 1 cup low fat vanilla ice cream
  • 1 large sliced peach
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon

Blend the peach and the sugar together, then add the orange juice, cinnamon and ice cream. Blend for about 30 seconds or until smooth.

5) Watermelon Wonder

This watermelon smoothie is a great snack for summer. You'll need:

  • 2 cups ice
  • 2 cups chopped watermelon
  • 1/4 cup fat free milk

Blend the watermelon and milk together for about 15 seconds. Add the ice and blend for about another 20 seconds.

6) Power Smoothie

This smoothie won't sit heavy on your stomach, so it's great before a workout, and makes a good breakfast. It contains tofu to give you energy, and blackberries, raspberries, cranberries and blueberries for vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

You'll need:

  • 3/4 cup mixed frozen berries
  • 3 ounces extra firm tofu
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 6 ounces cranberry juice
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed

Put all the ingredients into your blender and blend on "pulse" for one minute until the smoothie is finely chopped. Blend for an additional 30 seconds or until smooth.

7) Spicy Banana Smoothie

The ginger in this smoothie can help to soothe upset stomach and other digestive problems. The banana can help relieve heartburn. You'll need:

  • 6 ounces vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 sliced banana

Combine all ingredients in your blender and blend for about 30 seconds, or until smooth.

8) Sweet Sugar-Free Smoothie

This sugar free smoothie is as satisfying as a meal, but as sweet as a dessert. You'll need:

  • 1 sliced banana
  • 3 tbsp wheat germ
  • 5 frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp fat free milk

Put all ingredients into your blender and blend for 40 seconds, or until smooth.
