6 Halloween Costumes that You'll Look and Feel Great In

Fitday Editor

Halloween's become a holiday where women are expected to wear nothing but underwear and a pair of wings ("sexy angel"), or underwear and some horns ("sexy devil") or underwear and sharp teeth ("sexy vampire"). But how many of us really feel comfortable walking around town in next to nothing?

You can still look awesome and feel confident on All Hallows' Eve, without showing off your skin.

1. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games

The girl on fire! You'll definitely feel confident carrying a (fake) bow and arrow around. Plus, you'll be comfy all night, too. For her arena attire, you probably already have most of the essential items in your closet: cargo pants, boots, and a leather jacket should do the trick. A braid is essential for the Katniss look--there are tutorials on YouTube that demonstrate the exact style, called a "dutch braid." You can even purchase a cheap mockingjay pin replica on or eBay.

2. Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's

Because, who doesn't feel great in a little black dress? Long black gloves, a cigarette holder, tiara, pearls, cat-eye makeup, and a classic up-do complete the look. Audrey Hepburn was the epitome of glamor in this movie, and you will be too! You'll be turning heads all evening.

3. A Zombie

Zombies are all the rage right now. And the great part about being one for Halloween is you can wear whatever you feel best in! Throw on your favorite jeans and a red stained t-shirt. It's all about the makeup with this one. Show off your art skills and wow the crowd.

4. Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby

1920s attire is flattering on just about anyone. Wear a sparkly and flowy dress that hits at least your knees, lots of glittery jewelry, and flapper headband. Tuck long hair under to mimic a bob, or invest in a short blond wig. Make sure you bring a fancy glass to your party for all of the champagne you'll be sipping, too!

5. Rosie the Riviter

Iconic and strong--Rosie is easy to pull off as a costume. Tie a red bandana around your head with the bow up front. Let a curl of hair poke through on your forehead, and wear a bright red lipstick. Roll up the sleeves of a jean shirt and show of your guns!

6. Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

If you're feeling a bit more adventurous this Halloween, the girl with the dragoon tattoo is right up your alley. Any black, leathery clothing will do. The edgier the better. Adorn yourself with plenty of clip-on body jewelry, and really go overboard with the black eyeliner. Most importantly, get an artsy friend to draw a fake dragon tattoo on your shoulder, and wear a shirt that'll show it off. Lisbeth is one touch chick, so make sure you act the part!
