Personal goal setting is important when you want to reach a target weight in a certain amount of time. By setting a weight loss goal, you can structure both your diet and workout routine to help you achieve your target weight with time to spare. Shedding the final 10 pounds of your goal will require you to maintain some discipline, and possibly increase the intensity of your exercise program.

Setting a goal to lose a certain amount of weight will motivate you to make some changes in your life. If you need to lose the weight by a specific date, such as for a wedding or other social event, set both short and long term goals. The long term goal is to lose the weight by the actual day of the event. Short term goals help you to stay on track to reach your ultimate objective on time.

For example, if your long term goal is to lose 20 pounds in four months, your short term goals are to lose five pounds during each month. To help you achieve these goals, you must design a diet and exercise program. If you are already an active person, you can focus more on exercise without having to drastically reduce the amount of calories that you consume each day. The more time you have to reach your goal, the less pain you will have to go through along the way.

How to Shed the Last 10 Pounds

Once you have been dieting and working out for awhile to reach your weight loss goal, it may become increasingly difficult to continue to lose weight at the same rate. This is because your body becomes accustomed to your diet and exercise routine, so you will need to change things up to reach your target weight on time. This is easy to do, however you will need to spend some time figuring out the best way to shed the last 10 pounds.

If your main exercise is running, you can either increase the intensity of your workout by running faster or by running farther. You may want to experiment with both methods, to see how your body reacts to the change in your routine. If you can reduce the number of calories that you consume each day and still maintain enough energy to increase your workout intensity, you should have no trouble hitting your goal on time.

Another way to try and accelerate your weight loss is by changing your workout routine altogether. For example, if you normally run to exercise, try doing some aerobics instead. Your body will have to adapt to the change and may start to burn calories at a faster rate.

You can also try a weightlifting workout to help shed the last 10 pounds. Lifting weights adds muscle, so you may actually fall short of reaching a specific weight target. However, you will reallocate the weight you carry on your body, which may make you even happier with your appearance.
