hi all, am just checking in. i'm quite busy nowdays, thanks to everyone for nice comments (esp. Mern, you have such a wonderful insight I really love to read your comments)
now, my goals

1) exercise daily with one day off, totalling to 6 per week yes
2) no diet coke ( i can't believe i just wrote it.. ouch.....) i had 1 can 12oz but nothing more
3) take my supplement twice daily. once
4) no mindless snacking - esp. no biscuits yes

all in all, not too bad. I noticed if i don't eat sweet things, I don't crave them that much. My back is almost good (thank God) i just feel it a bit when doing crunches and other abs exercises.

Well! Good news on my end! I was down a pound yesterday--first loss since the beginning of July and my weigh-in this morning confirmed it. My back feels totally recovered today--possibly because I did some reorganizing yesterday that involved bending over many times to transfer a whole bunch of stuff from a short cabinet to a storage container on the floor and then from a short bookcase to that short cabinet. I did it carefully and slowly so that it was like more of a gentle stretching exercise. I should be able to go to the Y this afternoon but I'll just do some gentle treadmill walking today--maybe just 1/2 hour. I think many of you know my daughter and grandkids live only four miles away. The oldest of those grandkids is going into her senior year of high school and has so much homework that needs to be done on a computer, and my daughter doesn't have a computer. Granddaughter has a driver's license but no car and is looking for a part time job to earn money for a downpayment on a car for transportation to a local college next year. (We don't have busses where I live.) I have a spare bedroom, so although my daughter will still have custody, that granddaughter may be moving in with us. I warned her, though, that her Mom is still in charge, so her Mom's rules still apply here AND she won't be driving my car, but if she gets a part time job I'll be happy to drive her to and from work. I hope our little adventure goes as smoothly as we hope it can.

Terri, hi! I figured you were really busy at work, having just gotten back from vacation. I've been busy at home myself and haven't been able to log on as much as I'd like. I hope the funding situation at work is nicely resolved to your benefit. Best wishes and a huge hug to you every day that you're absent from here.

Lizzie, I guess we never do stop worrying about our kids and next generation of close family. Ooh, that wasn't good news about the USA being the worst vacation spots for staying on track on diet. And Vegas is probably as risky as New Orleans as far as temptation to stray from one's diet. Wishing you the best on your vacation. Go ahead and prove them wrong! Big hug to ya! Can ya do 5 minutes of exercise again today? I remember you got in 32 the other day. Come on--just five minutes? You can do it!

Oh, Mike! I hope those fresh batteries show you the same nice weight loss! I've been snooping around your food log--I see lots of good nutrition there, so I'll put my whip back in it's holster for now and I will allow you that planned cheat day. I started chuckling aloud over your comment to Quinn about zucchini bread being as healthy as carrot cake. What? 80 net carbs per serving of carrot cake is bad? I'll have to look up those calories again. Oh, congrats on the stationary bike riding.

Quinn, thanks so much for that recipe website link. I haven't looked at any of the recipes yet, but did see they also have low carb for me. Wow, that's great that you got all the fresh garden stuff from your FIL. That's one huge canteloupe! DH and I will have to start canning tomatoes soon. Only had one double batch (about 6 servings) of Chinese long beans that we didn't keep up with eating fresh, so we just tossed them in the freezer. Maybe you can search the Internet and find a healthful recipe for zucchini bread. Ooh, congrats on the weight loss and on your new weights.

Mary, good going on the cooking therapy and on your idea to freeze the leftover peach tarts. I hope you get in that exercise to relieve your stress.

Joanna, I figure my docs scale doesn't lie, either, and I'm so happy my home scale always weighs me higher. But I go by my home scale for FitDay. Congrats on all the green in your report.

Cassie, we all understand how hard it is to eat on plan when you're visiting someone who doesn't eat the way you do. But you're doing a marvelous job so far! We're proud of you! Congrats on avoiding those cookies with the inch thick frosting!

Muna, you are so sweet! You are doing really well, especially avoiding the mindless snacking. I need to work on my addiction to sugar free chocolate more. My target is a limit of 2 pieces per day--but I'd like to free myself of my addiction to them as I did my addiction to diet cola. I will still buy the candy as it's one of the very few sweet things I allow myself to eat. I'm going to put the bag on the top shelf of my bedroom closet so I have to walk further to get it and will take out only two pieces at a time. I'll cut each one into two pieces and put them on a small plate, make myself eat it in the kitchen at the table instead of in front of the TV. I'm going to let each one melt slowly on my tongue, so I'll enjoy the chocolate flavor longer. And then when those are gone I don't get any more for the rest of the day.

You should grab your whip b/c me cheat day came early. I tossed and turned all night and woke up with the muchies. At 3:00am I had nuts, tortilla chips then finished it with a PB&J sammich. I continued to toss and turn and right when I fell back asleep th power went ou due to the weather, which woke me back up. I think I fell back asleep around 4:30ish. On may way to work I stopped and got two donuts. I'm going to try to clean up the day some but have a LITTLE more junk.

Mern, glad to hear you're down a pound; good job! I'm glad to hear your good news about the back being better and also about your granddaughter. What a weight off your mind! Mom's rules...too true. Once when the boy was little we came to my mom's and the first thing he did was say, "Okay, whose rules apply here? Mom or Nanny?"

Muna, I'm so glad to see you back on the horse. Sounds like you're doing great so far.

Lizzie, I'm proud of you for getting that good walk in!! I know you'll find a balance of enjoying your vacation food and getting back on track afterward. I'm in the "be extra careful a few days ahead of time" myself.

Joanna, wouldn't it be great if it were an exact science instead of the scale bouncing back and forth? Such is life. You have a great outlook on it, though.

Mike, what can I say? You are knocking out your goals this week. Like Mern, I'll have to holster my whip. Was really looking forward to using it, too. Nice work passing the Butterfinger/debit card incident.

Quinn, good news on the scale, glad to see. Hope you enjoyed the weights and that they didn't trigger any discomfort for you.

Mary, if you get the leftover tarts in the freezer, all the more reason to "eat from the freezer ." They sound yummy. We are awash in peaches; I just love them.

House of Schizophrenic Food Pantry Report (I hid it in case someone doesn't want the food porn...just highlight it to show it):

Jumbo bag of Werther's Candies, various granola/Nutrigrain bars, powdered peanut butter, regular peanut butter, peanut butter wafer cookies, rice cakes (2 kinds), just-add-water chow mein, veggie sticks, regular potato chips, kettle cooked chips (4 bags), tortilla chips (2 kinds), mini cupcakes, cookies with icing, hot chocolate, marshmallows, Oreos, Cheetos, snack mix, microwave popcorn, Cheez-Its, Special K crackers, graham crackers, saltines, PopTarts (frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough), numerous Healthy Choice soups, various canned veggies, stuffing mix, yams, white potatoes, canned tuna, canned salmon, multiple bags of muffin mix, canned frosting, just-add-water rice and noodle packages, Shredded Wheat, Fiber One, Rice Krispies (2 kinds), Crispix, and Cheerios.

And so we got here yesterday and the first thing my mom says is, "I need to make a cake."

I haven't investigated what my mom's got back in her room and I really just don't need to go there.

My husband says that if we ever had some sort of national crisis and the food supply was compromised, my mom's house would be the first place he would go.

Fun times!!

Mike, 1200 calories by 9AM??? Yeah, you'd BETTER clean up your food report or count it as your cheat day and be good BOTH tomorrow and Sunday. I'm watchin' ! LOL

Cassie, whoa! Now I see why you call that the House of Schizophrenic Food!
So did your mom make a cake? Well, you could just eat a SMALL piece and still have a reasonable food report today. Thanks for you kind words about good things happening at my house. So cute about the boy asking whose rules apply at grandma's house. LOL

I think Mike sounds like he might be enjoying the prospect of discipline a little too much, what do you think Mern? .

No cake yet. I told her I wanted to do the strawberry pie for her, so I think that may hold it at bay. We'lll have a bunch of folks here tomorrow and Sunday for dinner, so one of those nights will be best!

Hope everyone is having a great day! Happy Friday!!

Quinn- Back on track again I see - well done.

Mern/Cassie - still have 4 1/2 weeks to go before we hit the USA so time to drop few pounds I hope. Got back on that treadmill today for 30 mins, and tomorrow going out for a guided walk around one of the gardens in a stately home, it lasts 1 1/2 hrs so that should be my exercise for tomorrow.

You all seem so good at cooking and baking. When my kids were young I did cook "proper" meals and baked pies and cakes etc. Now that is only done if someone is coming for dinner, otherwise it's all out of a packet, tin, freezer bag or ready made.
I don't even have the excuse that i'm too busy as there is only me and the cat to look after most of the time.
