The Fast Food Restaurants With the Healthiest Options

There are some restaurants and fast food chains that are known for being notoriously unhealthy and filled with trans fats, sugars, and carbs, however, if you are trying to make a conscious effort to eat cleaner, then there are some spots that are better than others.

Also, something to keep in mind, is salads are not always the best options as Cosmopolitan notes that at some restaurants the salad can actually have more calories than a burger. This is because some of the salads are piled with unhealthy extras like cheese, croutons and salad dressing, all of which drive up the calorie count.

According to CBS News, Health did a survey of 100 of America’s biggest fast food chains. The publication claims using criteria (including nutritional information, healthy fats, and healthy sodiums) that was determined by health professionals, they were able to come up with a list of restaurants that were trying hard to take a more health-conscious approach. The number one destination, according to this list, is bakery-cafe Panera Bread, which offers meals like organic yogurt and PB&J with natural peanut butter. Number two, three, four, and five went to Jason’s Deli, Au Bon Pain, Noodles and Company, and Corner Bakery Cafe, respectively.

But what is perhaps the biggest surprise is McDonald’s held the 8th spot, in part because they are so accountable with their nutritional information and how they have introduced the option of fruit and milk into their menus, instead of soda and fries.

Healthline also points out that fast food doesn’t necessarily mean unhealthy food, and they comprised a list of ten restaurants that have healthy options on the menu, including Chipotle’s burritos, tacos and salads, and Chick-fil-A’s chicken salads, grilled chicken nuggets, and multi-grain breakfast oatmeal. Also on the list were Wendy’s, McDonald’s, and Panera Bread, among others, but the message Healthline wants to drive home is that almost every menu has healthy options, it's just all about making good choices.

Some of these menus can also be modified, and dietary requirements such as gluten-free and vegetarian are being catered for more and more.
