10 Foods and Drinks That Help Combat Bloating

You woke up this morning and you're feeling bloated, worse still you had a date planned with the girls to hang out at the beach and the last thing you want to do is rock your bathing suit when you're just not feeling confident. At some point in our lives we've all been there, the good news is there are actually foods that can help to combat the bloat.

Water: Dehydration is among the many reasons that bloating occurs, so what better way to combat it than by drinking water? And keep away from sodas and carbonated drinks because those only make the bloating worse.

Lemon water: One step further than just drinking regular water is drinking lemon water. The hydration from the water will help to flush the sodium from your body, while the lemon aids digestion — and helps relieve the symptoms of indigestion.

Ginger: Ginger contains the digestive enzyme zingibain as well as anti-inflammatory properties, so it should come as no surprise that it's not only great for your health, but also your digestive system.

Tomatoes: Tomatoes are low in calories and filled with potassium, which helps to combat the excess sodium in your body and therefore reduce the feeling and appearance of bloating.

Peppermint tea: Mint works wonders when it comes to settling upset stomachs and can also help to soothe inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.

Turmeric: Turmeric helps to ease bloating due to it's anti-flatulent, digestive and stimulant properties.

Garlic: Perhaps not the best food to eat if you're going to be in close contact with others, but eating garlic (on it's own) can actually work wonders in beating the bloat.

Yogurt: Yogurt contain probiotics which help your body to absorb nutrients properly. Stay clear of the sugary ones though, and always opt for plain.

Bananas: Bananas are filled with potassium and fiber and are not only a great snack, but also a fantastic way to fight the bloat.

Melons: Other fruit that is fantastic to eat when you're bloated is watermelon (or melons in general) because it consists of mostly water, but is a good source of potassium.
