Here's a picture. The one on the left was from about a year and a half ago, and I had put on MORE weight from the time it was taken until I got my head outta my a$$ & started my journey. The picture on the right was taken over the weekend, 141 pounds lighter. I'm trying to drop a total of 200 lbs by Christmas, which will be 1 year and 2 weeks from my start date.

New to Forum - using PC version
Hi Everyone - I am also beginning my journey to lose over 100 lbs. 125 to be exact.
Started many plans over the years and even used Fit Day in the past. It is the daily motivation that is the key for me....it is easy for me to get lost in my busy life and to lose focus on what I really want to do long term. It has just become a larger and larger situation as I do remember the day I was horrified at weighing in at 212....now 275 and it seems overwhelming at times. Now I have found you folks who are motivated and similar to me. So I will use the forum to be accountable outside of myself. July 21, 2012 --- female, age 54, wt 275lbs, no exercise, size 24 dress pants Goal Wt -- 150 date @ 2lbs per week will be 62 weeks of late Aug 2013 Started walking July 22, 2012 15 minutes approx 1250 steps. plan to check in every Sunday for an update. Wish everyone great motivation and success each day. Judy |
Another Newbie
Hi there! Another newbie here, and looking forward to my journey. I am a 39 year old single mom from Central Oklahoma, and have tried to lose weight many times. Now, I'm trying again!
I attended the Biggest Loser auditions in Dallas yesterday, and had a great time, but more importantly I made a committment to myself to keep working towards my goal with or without the help of the Biggest Loser. I have about 160 lbs to lose. Boy that hurts to say out loud. But there it is. I look forward to being here and sharing my journey with you all. |
Hey guys I'm back. I'm not so happy with myself mainly cause I have NOT been eating right for the past few weeks, I gained 4 lb, but I at least did some exercise.
LOVE ALL, Kailtyn |
awsome memilller1, nice work keep at it also its great to see so many new posts here ! keep up the fight!
|
I am not a small person either and I am looking to lose about 80 pounds. I have set small goals for myself, My first goal is to lose 20 pounds by October. I figured if I set small amount of weight lose I will be more motivate to lose the weight. Also no matter what I walk everyday (no making excuses). I know you can lose the weight also just set small goals.http://mobiletabletguide.16mb.com/img2/s.gif

Just checking in, I've lost 10.6# so far... That brings me to 234.6, with a goal of about 160# (at least that's what they say my high end is on the weight charts.)

Welcome to the site. I'm certainly no expert. But I can tell you none of the "diets" that I have tried in the past have worked either. What is working for me is logging all my food on my fitday account and being accountable... I think one of the reasons why it's working is because it's not a "diet" in the sense that we know it. Rather, it has become a lifestyle change... I know I can go and do some sort of crazy diet and lose weight faster but I KNOW I will never keep it off...All of the little changes that I have seen in my life have been keeping me motivated and accountable. Hope all is well. Keep up the good work :D |
Cathy Cartoon
The person who told me to check out this site said that he had seen a Cathy cartoon on this thread. It was quite a while ago, so I decided to start at the beginning of the thread and work my way forward. I didn't find the cartoon, so if anyone knows where on the thread it is, or where I can find it on the net I would appreciate it.
While I was scanning the thread I noticed that there are a lot of quotes from a member in the earlier part of this thread, but I don't see any of the posts that they were quoted from, so what happened to the original posts . BTW the Cathy cartoon was about trying to quench a craving, and how you may end up eating fewer calories if you give in to the craving instead of trying to sub it with something else and not being satisfied, so you try another sub, and another, etc, until you finally give in and eat what you were originally craving anyway... Sounds like something that I've lived through on more than one occasion  |
Here Goes Nothing
Hi everyone. I just recently joined FitDay, and have spent the past couple of hours looking through this particular thread. It has been really inspirational to look at everyone posting, some since December 2010! That's dedication and commitment.
Well, I will just state pretty much everything that I think is pertinent. My name is Andrea. I am 22 years old. I currently weigh 328 pounds. I have been going to the gym since April, but within the past month have truly committed myself to working out and trying to not sabotage myself and my efforts. Phew. Wow, that was quite something. I have never been very open with my weight, it's always been something that I do not talk to others about unless I am extremely comfortable with you. So that is all of 2 people, and only one knows my actual weight. Now, that number includes all of you. :o I have lost 9 pounds since I first started in April, but the past two weeks has been a new start for me, so while I'm excited to get started. This is the heaviest that I have ever been in my life. Growing up, I was slightly overweight, but thanks to a lot of influences in my life, many of which were not the supportive kind, I felt grossly heavier than I actually was. But, I've chosen to set aside the past and to look to the future. I realize it's a long road, but I've all ready begun to enjoy just becoming more active. My first mini-goal is to lose 30lbs, which would bring me to 298, a number I haven't seen in about a year. I'm really excited to see that goal reached. My ultimate goal, that's a little trickier. I of course want to be at a healthy weight, an appropriate BMI, but I'm not sure at the number exactly. Somewhere between 121 and 164 according to the BMI here on FitDay is a healthy range for me. That would of course be amazing. That would make me smaller than I was in Middle School. Kind of scary thought. I've been logging in and tracking myself since Tuesday, so this is my third day and I've all ready seen an improvement in what I am want to use as my body's fuel. Thanks, and I look forward to checking back in. :D |
Hi, I'm back on the wagon after some weeks of bad eating habits and no exercise.. I currently weigh 232.4 lbs, and my goal weight is between 125 and 135 lbs... my mini goal is to lose 2 inches from my bust, waist, and thighs, so I wear a sz 16 top and sz 14 jeans...as you can see, I'm a fashionista tired of plus sizes... I look forwartd to any suppport from other dieters on this forum... I certainly need it:o! Behlor

I'm Like SkinnyBonz...
The weight GAIN chart that SkinnyBonz posted is about what I've also done to myself. At an all-time high of 250# right now, I went to my doctor and he said, "Lost 100# or die by age 60." (I'm 58...and only 5'2").
I have a multitude of health issues. Anyway, the doctor gave me his version of yet another diet and for some reason, it "took" this time! I started August 4th and it's only the 6th (2012), but I've already lost 5.5# and today I actually walked 5 MILES!!! With numbers like that, I'm pretty motivated! No matter what diet I went on before, I was off of it by Day #2. I finally figured out my issue: LAZINESS! I'm too lazy to go to the store if I'm missing a food that's on the list for that day!! OMG! Also, I hate cooking, but I'm biting the bullet on that this time. I ensured I had 21 days free of events (birthdays, etc.) so that I can at least stay on track for 3 weeks. WISH ME LUCK & GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE! |

Thought I would report back in. Yesterday evening was my weigh-in day. I lost 1 pound. It doesn't surprise me as I did not go to the gym Wednesday through Sunday. In any case, new week, a new opportunity.
Wombat, that's really encouraging that you're all ready seeing results like that. That was a really smart idea to make sure that you can start without any events happening for the first 3 weeks. I've heard before that it takes 3 weeks to form a good habit. Of course we all know it only takes one day to ruin a good habit. ;) In any case, I do have a question. I'm not sure what to make of the calorie lifestyle column. Is that an amount of calories I am expected to burn throughout the day or is that an amount that I should be aiming to burn? |
andieligon,
One thing i did, was try to take foods that i enjoy and make them healthier by use of different ingredients, For example instead of burger with cheese and bacon and french fries, switch to burger, without cheese or bacon and with side of broccoli....it allowed me to still have some of what i enjoyed without totally giving everything up. No matter how much it sucks, give logging your food at least a month, and log everything, no matter how bad it might suck to, and if you follow the rule of eating less than your body burns you will lose weight. I am down 212lbs in 15 months as proof. |
Thanks Clay. 212 pounds in 15 months? That's incredible progress.
Logging in everything hasn't really been an issue as yet. I did miss a day or two last week because I didn't get onto the computer. I am becoming more aware of what I am eating needs to be fuel for my body, so I need to make sure that the food I'm eating is the right type for me. Last night my family had fried catfish and okra. Pretty tough but I took some catfish and cooked it up really quick and made it into a taco. Not my ideal way of eating catfish for sure, but it worked out and I enjoyed it. And then I went to the gym and got my workout on after dinner. :) I think last week was just a bit of a startup hiccup. I was starting something brand new and wasn't in the habit of sticking to my plan just yet. But it's like I said, new week, new opportunities. |
I am too on a journey to be a healthier me. I'm no longer overweight, but I'm trying to tone up and keep off the weight. (The heaviest I've been in my life was 160lb when I was in elementary/junior high!) I know how hard it gets sometimes when you just feel like you'd rather just skip your workout or go crazy on your diet, but what matters is how strong your will is to get back on track.

Clay, looking good! I'm back to work and back on track today.
Was getting back into the swing, then lost my best friend in a motorcycle accident a couple of weeks ago (we were meeting up to go riding) and things haven't been good. I have logged everything (scary) but don't plan on stepping on the scale for at least a couple of "good" weeks. Regards, Michael |
Clay, that progress shot is amazing. Great work!
Michael, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you're doing better now. I've seen you post in the earlier pages something along the lines of this is a journey. Sometimes we have to go through really rough spots that detour us for a little while, but the goal is to not let that stop you from getting to where you want to be and to get back on course. You've been an incredible inspiration for me just over the few weeks that I've started FitDay. I look forward to seeing what has happened after your couple of good weeks. ;) Today is my weigh-in day. I'll post my weigh-in after I get back from the gym. BUT- I have done my measurements. Over the past week, I lost a total of .75 inches. Measuring also helped to realize I really need to get back to the weight training and start working on my abdomen. Gaining around my middle is NOT what I wanted to see. Has anyone tried planks? I've tried them a couple of times, did not like it, but I have heard they are good for the core, so I may try them again. Any thoughts? |
Thanks Michael, and also sorry to hear about your friend, I also ride (sold all my bikes over the last year), and have lost several friends, some from their own stupidity (speeding, running from the police, wheelies etc) and some from other drivers not paying attention, no matter how it happens it still hurts the same, but one thing you cannot take away from them, is that they passed on doing what they enjoyed and you had the opportunity to share that experience with them, and he will be looking down over you while you go through life..RIP Friend
|
Clay, you look amazing! keep up the good work. You and a few others have been an inspiration to me through this journey. I am hoping to do as well as you have so far. As of yesterday, I am down 148 lbs since December 11th, 2011/ I am shooting for a loss of 200 by Christmas this year. It seems like my loss has slowed down drastically over the past month or two. I have been changing up my workout & trying to vary my micronutrient mix to see if it helps. Ultimately, as long as the needle on the scale is still going in the right direction, I am happy.
|
Over the past week, I've dropped 4.5 pounds. That makes a total of 15.5 pounds lost. I have to say, having to record everything, food- and activity-wise, has been an incredible reminder and motivator. Remembering that I will have to log this food or not log in some activity keeps me on the right track. And seeing the numbers corroborate with the effort is amazing.
Mike, congratulations! Every time I log in, I see another encouraging example. 200 pounds in one year?! That would be amazing. But even if you don't make your goal, you've still lost almost 150 pounds in less than a year! I feel like I'm always saying this, but that is really inspiring! Also, I think I've never used so many exclamation marks before. :D |
Hi Everyone
What an amazing and inspirational thread! A couple of hours ago I felt lost and alone, thinking I was one of very few that had such a mountain to climb. After reading through the posts here I am feeling more confident that I will achieve my goals! Little about me: Weight now: 238lbs BMI: 43.5 Target Weight: 120lbs Target Date: 30 Nov 2013 This is something that I really feel I need to achieve now. Fingers crossed this time next year I will be well on target! |
Oh boy, this last week was not good for me. Between the Boot Camp Tuesday through Thursday (it was a workout for the brain, not so much for the body) and a convention Friday through Sunday where everything was sitting, I didn't get much activity in at all. Went to the gym today and weighed in. Not good. Gained 3 pounds, so I'm back up to 325.5. I guess it could be worse.
To tell you all the truth though, I was expecting it a little bit. No overeating but the inactivity is what did me in. Back to the grindstone for me next week though. I all ready kicked my butt back into Zumba and weight lifting, so hopefully I'll have abetter report next Monday. Galwaylass- Nice to meet you! I'm glad you see this as a warm and inviting place. I also found it incredibly inspiring when I started a few weeks ago. The best thing though is that unlike other places the people here are not into the quick results. Everyone here sees and knows that becoming healthier is hard work and it takes time and effort. So, like the little setback I've had this past week, we keep going, keep getting back up, keep moving and keep learning. And for some of us, keeping track of activity levels and food is something we will have to do for the rest of our lives. I look forward to seeing your progress. It's always encouraging to see other's success. |
thank you Michael
Thank you for adding this Thread... I feel motivated reading peoples stories. I am a new mother of a beautiful baby boy who has given me a reason to become healthy. I currently weight 285pounds. My ideal weight is 150pounds... I have 135 pounds to lose. I feel overwhelmed and I am not too sure how to go about my journey to weight loss. Your thread has given me some perspective. I will start weighing myself on Saturdays as well and posting it on your thread... Wish me good luck and lots of Motivation :)

Hi andieligon,
Thanks for the encouraging words! I hope this week is working out well for you. I see you do Zumba and weight lifting! I am sure your fitness levels will be rocketing soon! Look forward to a positive weight loss from you next week :-) (and from me fingers crossed!)

Hi trackmyfood! Congrats and welcome to motherhood. Its a wonderful place to be :-) I also feel somewhat overwhelmed with my journey but we can do it. I am feeling so positive after reading the posts here. Imagine a couple of years of applying yourself to healthy eating and regular exercise = a fit, happy and healthy Mom for years and years to come. Have you decided on a diet that suits you yet?
For now I am just cutting out the junk and adding some regular 3 mile walks to my weekly routine. In the next few weeks I really hope to address my carboholism. That is my downfall. Hope to see you around. Best of luck!!!!

My mini goal is to lose 10 lbs by the end of September, and get my waist size below 35 (it's 39 right now) by end of October |
Hey there trackmyfood and AnnTrois. I'm so happy to see more people coming in. It's going to be a long journey and it's nice to see what others are doing and how they are getting along.
|
So, first official week (actual tracking of food & exercise) of project "Why did I let a fat lady swallow me?". I am feeling more energetic than I was previously, happy and optimistic for the future.
There is a noticable difference in my complexion (probably from the walking). I am generally more optimistic. This is probably down to getting started on getting this weight under control. I am focusing strongly on this time next year and how I can be thin if I allow myself the time to plan my meals and take time out for exercise. It really is that simple ....... I hope This coming week is about curbing my "carboholism" (glad you like that coin of phrase andieligon, I came up with it while writing down all the pros and cons of my diet). Hope everyone else is doing good. I am heading off for a few days to visit my parents before mini me heads back to school but catch up with you all next weekend. Current Weight: 224 lbs Start weight July 1 2012: 234 |
All right Galwaylass! 10 pounds downs since you started! That's awesome. I'm glad to see that things are going well for you. :)
I was in the Women's Section and actually brought up a point related to yours. While exercising, that day and the day after I feel great, but if I haven't been active enough, I don't feel as great. It's a really good motive to keep up with the workouts! I was not very optimistic about going in to my weigh-in. This past week I wasn't keeping track of the food I was eating. I only went to the gym once, though I went outside at least once a day to walk the dog. I did try to watch how much food I was eating, but I just really didn't care. Shame shame on me! :o In any case, I managed to make it down to just under 320. Sorry I can't be more specific, the scale at the gym is the type that you push the little thing across the bar to get the weight. It said I was under 320 for sure. I'll err on the side of caution and say that that makes me down about 5.5 pounds from last week. :D I'm really excited. But also feel really fortunate that I lost any weight at all. Back on track for me this week! I'd rather not deal with another scare like how I felt going in today. Also did my measurements. I'm down 6 inches since my last measuring! Needless to say, I'm feeling incredible right now. |
I hope to enjoy this coming weekend. All these goals towards a healthier and fitter you is firing me up to do better. Thank you.

All right! Well Happy September everyone! I go back to work tomorrow, back to school with all the kiddies.
Anyways, I weighed and measured yesterday. Lost about .75" all around, and finally I am at 319.5 officially. So I'm going to chalk that up to a half pound loss. *shrugs* I have to say that I am looking forward to going back to work for a lot of different reasons. Since I haven't been getting paid, I have not had any money to purchase my own food and that means I haven't been able to actually buy anything nutritious. The logical thought is to then make the best of whatever is available. Not entirely possible though when my mother cares just for a quick deal and not for the lasting benefits of fresh or frozen vegetables. She'd rather just get a quick deal on cans or the cup of noodles. Urrgh. It was partly my fault for not stocking up on enough food for the summer like I've done in the past, but still. There is no reasoning with some people sometimes. In particular someone who should be getting fresher vegetables, smarter protein sources, etc. On top of that, going into work and being on a schedule is much better for me rather than just having tons of free time. If I know that I have a certain time for working out and being active, I take advantage of that time rather than waste it on something else. Seems backward logic, but that's what I've found to work. Sorry for rambling on. Things around here have gotten pretty stressful and I needed to vent a little. How are things going for everyone else? |
Just checking in. I am down another 2lbs this week so happy with that. I got lots of exercise last week (4 hours + per day) so I think that is how the 2lbs went. My diet was ok but not great .... even had roast potatoes 2 evenings!!
Andeieligon: I hear ya re the work and schedule, there is no room for procrastination so you just have to get on and get it done. I hope once you are back to work things become easier for you. Its such a shame your Mom isnt more supportive! On the upside at least you can do your own shopping from now on so you should soon be seeing a big difference soon. Congrats on the .5lbs! This week I wont have much time for exercise. Hopefully get in 3 x 3mile walks. I am on track with my food. On average -900 daily so hopefully hit my 2lb target. Best of luck to everyone else!! Lets make this week, a kick ass weightloss one! Adios from sunny Ireland.

Thought this week would be a disaster for me but I managed a -1lb loss. I had 2 parties to attend over the weekend. I really watched what I ate daytime to allow for some drinks and naughties in the evenings. I still was very nervous getting on the scales this morning but delighted with my -1. Hope to kick 3lbs this week to keep me on track.
Hope everyone else is getting on well. :D |
Whoopsie! I forgot to weigh in yesterday while I was at the gym.
But I definitely HAVE been making a bigger effort to record what I do. In fact, I've made it a priority to make it to the gym between the time I get off work and go to pick my sister up from her job. So far, of the past 5 days, I made it to the gym 3 days. Things are looking good. I'm thinking I might just skip my weigh-in this week. Perhaps after 2 weeks of concerted effort to watch what I'm eating and to be more active, I'll see a more significant payoff. Galwaylass, so happy for you! -1lb is amazing, you're still moving in the right direction. I haven't yet had to deal with a party situation. Unless you count the breakroom at work. Today there was a cheese plate with crackers- not too bad. Sitting next to the cheese plate was a pile of muffins, each one twice the size of my fist! Stayed away from them, and stuck to a couple cheese slices and crackers. Enough for a pick-me-up and that was all. We'll see how next week goes. |
