I think most people get upset with insurance b/c they don't feel that they get their monies worth. Some people probably don't b/c they rarely use it. But I guess you have to ask, is it better to have it and not use it or need it and not have it? My point to him was that I just got back from fishing, b/c I could b/c I wasn't in pain... b/c of the insurance that was offered to me from "Big Business". Lord know I wouldn't have gotten the epidurals if I would have had to have payed $3500 a pop plus the ~$1000 for the MRI. That would have been over $12,000 just for this. Let alone all the other things. I think I struck a nerve b/c I told him that when I first went it, they wanted to know who the responsible part was, so they could subrogate. I told him that I was the responsible party, someone else may have pulled a "slip and fall" in big business and big business would have footed the bill.

My biggest gripe with insurance is that it doesn't cover preventative things often enough...like gym memberships, nutrition counseling, etc. I'm big on planning for "what if," though; even if you're in perfect health, you never know what waits around the corner in terms of health or accidents.

Hi Mary, how are you doing?? What five foods do you have this week?

Hi I'm back to almost normal after a few weeks of too much stress. Hope to get more active here again. It's nice to read how you all are doing from scary food pantrys to facebook follies.

My 5 foods are eggs, almonds, yougurt, spinach and raspberries. All good healthy foods. It will be interesting to see how creative I can be. So far so good although I had a headache before dinner tonight. Just finished some soup made with spinach, almond milk, tumeric and nutmeg - surprisingly good. I have never liked cooked spinach before. Mary

Mike Your post is so sweet thanks for sharing. P.S I think you might actually be a really nice guy I won’t tell anyone else though.

Quinn Your turkey before turkey sounds great to me I love it, a couple years ago I made turkey on our thanksgiving and yours just because.

Joanna I am with everyone else I can’t wait to see your hair pic’s.

Terri You should start by giving yourself credit for being the kind of person who wants to grow and better yourself because in a world that has become very self centered most people want others to do the changing, so I am impressed by your willing heart.

Cassie Enjoy your holiday, enjoy your family and I am sure you will do just fine with the food. Your food inventory posts are making me smile and miss my grandma her house was the same.

Amy Have you been peeking at my pie chart lol that’s what mine looked like Saturday also, I thought I could help it by eating prawns turn out you have to eat a lot of prawns to get much protein ughh. I hope your hubby feels better soon it’s no fun to be sick on big family holidays.

Rose Good luck with your sugar goal I am sure once you get a couple days under your belt you will feel great. I chuckled at your thanksgiving comment I am also grateful to not contend with a ton of tempting foods after my 5 days of weakness and in the same breath turkey dinner sounds so good.

Mhibdon I am kind of afraid to ask but what is hoe-dancing? I am not on facebook but I bet you look great in your frat social pic’s.

Quinn What an awesome post you put it beautifully. I had never chatted or posted before I landed in this forum I read for weeks before I spoke and now I can’t wait to sit down and hear what you all have to say. Blessings come in many forms and this is one of mine and at a time when I really needed the support!

Pam Your pic’s are great, we got a small snow also but it’s turning into a slushy mess really quickly.

Cyndees Welcome!

Mary Good luck on the detox it sound like one I read in a magazine just recently and the two women’s testimonies were great, keep us posted.

April Nice weight loss for 7 days! Thanks for the discretion with your food porn lol.

While since we are on insurance companies; my oil tank will cost $2038.15 that doesn’t include the removal of the wall or the cement pad that needs to be laid before the ground freezes (my poor hubby his weekend going to be bad) all because the insurance company says that my tank that is still in good working order can no longer be in my basement. Now having vented I agree we need insurance and I know that when my best friends house burnt down the insurance company was great and very much a necessity it’s just frustrating to throw good money at something that’s not broken.
Wow that’s a lot of reading but great motivational and thanksgiving posts, Happy Thanksgiving to you all across the border. I managed to get out and hike this morning the lake was beautiful with a light covering of snow on all the trees and I think I have this layering thing down pat I start chilly walk 4k’s warmly end the last two carrying my rain layer. Well I need to go put potatoes around the roast be back later.

Darlene, what kind of insurance is that? Homeowners insurance would cover that b/c that. Is that like some warranty/maintenance plan? Yes, please don't tell anyone that I'm nice. I don't want that bad word to get out.

Pam, nice pictures! Wow, I can't believe all the snow. It looks so pretty up in there in the mountains but I am dreading this Winter in the city when I have to shovel my stairs every other day and my car gets stuck.

Cyndee, welcome! Nice looking goals! Do you follow a specific program for jogging/walking? I am thinking of getting back into that but the weather might get in the way soon.

Mary, my fellow Canadian, Happy Non Thanksgiving Regular Work Week! What is this 5 food detox that you're doing? It sounds pretty interesting but I don't fully understand the concept (since I was a delinquent and stayed away for 3 weeks so I probably missed the original explanation.)

April, wow!!! You lost 5.6lbs in a week! That is so amazing! Also way to go on doing your walk at lunch even though it was raining. I'm totally impressed.

Cassie, whoa! That is some inventory! How big is that pantry? I am FedEx-ing a life preserver as we speak.... but seriously, I hope the swelling in your mom's legs goes down. Sounds like you had a sweet time rolling her around in the cart.

Joanna, wow, that's some super cherry red hair you've got there! Looks great!

Firstly I would like to join in on the "I feel the love" conversation way back on pgs 1-2. When I'm away from the thread I get to jonsing for a little "me" time on-line with all of you wonderful people. This site has been beyond essential for keeping me on (pushing me back on) the healthy track. I've been running into folks that haven't seen me in a year and they're like "whoa you haven't gained it all back?". Nope, I got peeps that keep me sane and help me figure this all out, every day, every hour on bad days. This thread is way better than a weekly WW meeting or an expensive personal trainer or a nutritionist. Firstly we're united by a common goal, and somehow or another the forum breaks down barriers we might normally erect or apply to others. And that gives us the freedom to just be ourselves, with complete blunt honesty. I think all of us at one point or another have confessed something here that we never would have admitted in any other place, and that somehow is binding in a strange and wonderful way. And I am in complete accord on all the positive things people said earlier, only I would like to take exception to using the the term "dysfunctional" as a label for our wacky fitday family. Dysfunctional implies that something doesn't work or it works in a negative fashion, and I would argue that this is working very well indeed.

Terri, it's hard to fathom that you describe yourself as awkward or shy. It's totally not part of your personality here, and I have a feeling that if we were to meet face to face I wouldn't be able to see the awkwardness you claim to have even then.

Cassie, that pantry is enough to make any sensible healthy person CRAZY!!! I'm cracking up over your inventory LOL. Our moms might be related after all... Sorry to hear that your mom is suffering with swelling. Has anyone ever suggested a low salt diet to her? Just cutting down on sodium alone would clear a large swath in that pantry anyway.

Mike, I didn't check out the rant, but I agree with Cassie, it's like beating your head against a brick wall with some people. Here in Michigan we have mandatory "no fault" insurance, it's expensive and newcomers to the state always complain loudly about it. I've lived here since I learned to drive so don't think much about it. I totally agree that having insurance makes things like medicine and car repairs more accessible, things a lot of us would put off indefinitely just because of the out of pocket price tag.

Quinn, I'm going to pick up my turkey tomorrow, it's free so long as I get a hen less than 18lbs. You gotta love working a great deal at the grocery store!!! We're having turkey dinner with both sides of the family, but neither event is at our house this year. I'll probably cook our bird in a week or two. Yummmmm, I love turkey.

Joanna, LOVE IT, but I will tell you that my first thought when I looked at the pictures was "oh wow, look at those beautiful blue eyes!!!" LOL, so your hot pink hair can't steal the show from those baby blues!

April, congrats on the BIG FAT LOSS. I'm so jealous it's not funny, but also so proud I'm getting choked up here, sniff sniff. I'm so glad you were able to grab the wheel and bring it back around. Your menu sounds wonderful. I have no control over that for our dinners. I'm taking sweet potatoes, pecan pie, sweet pickles, cut out cookies and possibly a somewhat healthy cheesecake. I guess I drew the straw that says, "5 ways to make your butt bigger in a day".

Mern, if you're out there, I'm really sorry about the GD's miscarriage. Hugs to you honey.

Mary, good luck with your detox. I've never detoxed, but I have done an "elimination diet" more than once. Keep us posted, I love all those foods on your list, so if it works I might have to try it.

mtlgirl, I think a few weeks off the wagon is nothing to beat yourself up over. You've had a ton of upheaval, so now that it's over you can just settle back in to your life and it's all good. Oh, and in your position I would get motivated more by getting on the scale than I would from avoiding it, no matter what it says. Good luck on getting away from sugar that would be tough for me as well, keep us posted.

Darlene, ugh, good luck with your tank situation. I feel for your hubby, not only is his weekend going to suck, it's going to blow a hole in his wallet as well. I'm very glad you decided to stop being a lurker and join us.

Pam, the pictures are beautiful, but I'm glad I'm looking at a pic instead of out my window. I'm inspired by the fact that you run outside in that weather. I'll have to get tougher if I'm going to keep up with you...

Well I took a flexeril for my shoulder, and now I'm starting to get wonky. Hopefully I'm still making sense, but I'm going to bed now just in case. See you all in the morning. 'Night.
