7-Day Motivational Thread for 2/11/13

Morning, Everyone!

Getting this started...will be back to set my own goals later. I've been fighting a bug and other things for the past few days but need to do what works. Have a good Monday, y'all :).

ToriD1012 02-11-2013 01:37 AM

Hey hey hey! I'm here. I'm down 3.6 from last week. It was as much as 7, but the weekend kinda did me in :o I'll make some sort of goals later. I don't think they'll be too extreme though. Not making concrete goals worked last week, I'll do what I can this week though. Wishing everyone a wonderful Monday.

jjrudd 02-11-2013 01:47 AM

Hi Cassie and Tori.

Goals for the week.
1. Eat 4 fruits and veggies.
2. Drink 6 glasses of water
3. LOG
4. Eat within carb/protein

Personal goals
1. vacuum bedroom and dust!
2. de-clutter
3. don't get discouraged with number on scale

Not sure how much exercising I will get this week. Feeling a little tired and achy today.

Jenn

G'morning and happy Lundi Gras my lovelies. I had the pleasure of spending the day with Hope and her hubby. They are really nice... they even fed me! We walked around the city a little, got beignets (Tori, that is been yays), had a taste of some pralines. We watched 2 (looked to be homeless ladies) flip out on one group of guys, stopped another group of guys and drank liquor with the, by the river, all before the sun went down.

Back to the food... her they're both really good cooks, he made a tasty fish dish and she hooked up the veggies and salad. It was a nice change consider up until that point I had king cake, more king cake, beignets & a praline. Good think it wasn't a cheat day! ;)

We finished off the day with a parade. (Tori, that is a pee rade). We hitched a ride on the street car, not to be confused with a trolley. We found a nice spot at the end of the route. Had a really good time, met some really nice people out there... Which is easy to do when you're in N'awlins baby.

Overall impressions, they are a really awesome couple. A true pleasure to be around, extremely friendly. I hope I'll get to meet up with them again. (Tori, that means they a'ight for a couple a yanks!);)

01gt4.6 02-11-2013 02:44 AM

One last thing... I hate to put too much of others peoples business out there, but it wasn't until after they invited me back to "their place" that her huddy said that he slipped some ecstasy in my food, but the odd thing was that he had the women on the parade route all over him. He must have been passing that shhhhh out like candy.

Nahhhhh, that's just DH's natural effect on women; how do you think he got me? And kept me for like 100 years? I hate to blow Mike's tough guy cover but he is a true Southern gentleman, extremely good natured, totally easygoing and a great "hang." And hey anyone who likes our food is OK by us. You BETTER come see us again. Don't make me send DH after you cause you know I'll do it.
BTW what is up with this weather? It is raining here. It aint supposed to rain on Lundi Gras!!!! (yeah like I'm an expert now.)
Hey Tori, now I see when you see in Mike. He arrives with pralines!!!

canary52 02-11-2013 04:02 AM

Mike, you didn't even tell about the horses that went backwards!!!! Weirdest thing ever.

Oh and LOL on the "trolley." But hey it's better than "that train thing."

Cassie I hope you feel better!!! You too, Jenn! Just do what you can!!! Tori, congrats on the 3.6!!!! A banana is dancing in my head for you. (I am a bit technically challenged.)

Mern 02-11-2013 04:03 AM

I haven't yet done my menu or pre-logging but breakfast was on-plan. I'll do my snacks and lunch on-plan so dinner and evening snacks won't be a goal problem. My back is still bothering me (kinda twisted it Friday getting out of the car) but I did some light housework today and will see if I can do some aerobic walking at a slower pace. Maybe I'll feel better after some gentle exercise.

Cassie, feel better soon! I got a thank you reply from Edgar Moreno of Ole Mexican Foods regarding my email of appreciation of their changing the Xtreme Wellness High Fiber Low Carb Tortilla recipe back to a more healthful one. He said they worked really hard on changing the recipe to satisfy more customers so he thanked me for noticing. :)

Tori! Major kudos on being down 3.6 lb. from last week! Wishing you another successful week.

Jenn, best wishes on your nice goals this week. I hope you feel better soon, too.

Mike and Hope, so fun reading that you two are having a good time together in NOLA. :)

canary52 02-11-2013 04:21 AM

Goals:
1) HAVE FUN
2) plan meals
3) stay even remotely near plan, especially lunch and breakfast
4) stretch EVERY DAY (you should too, Mr Mike)
5) get back to meditation
6) water is the new beer, drink more
7) Have fun (however will I do that in NOLA?) Notice that is TWO of my goals!!!! I'm taking this seriously.
8) Find a scale (do I even WANT to know?)

Plan haha
One of my breakfast options was no nitrite bacon and egg whites, been there, ate that
Meatballs (kosher, no less - from Kosher Cajun) or tuna with sf mayo and leftover salad
Chicken or fish and veg
cup of gumbo?
Snacks:
clementines
blueberries
"yummy" dried kale (ask Mike lol - it aint KIng Cake, that's for sure.)
nuts

Mern, sorry to hear about your back. Try to do some gentle stretching; it really helps. Maybe heat? Heat works for me. And for me, acupuncture but my stuff is chronic and I am lucky to know a great healer. If you can tolerate Advil or Aleve, might help with inflammation.

Watch it, Im a badass, I'm so damn gangsta! Actually, when Tori invited me up to her hotel room (ouch, I just threw up a little saying that, I may be from the south but even we don't climb up the family tree) I brought king cake.

Let me paint the picture... if you've never seen a Budweiser Clydesdale horse, lets just say it's like a horse on steroids. They make your regular horse look like a... ummmm chihuahua. Well picture like 8 of them, harnessed together pulling the Budweiser wagon and ooops "we took the wrong turn. Hey Estell, put it in reverse!" After a few minutes the thought of 'hmmmmm this could really turn out bad'. Well I'm sure you've all seen the video of the raging bull that runs off into the stands and tramples people. That would have been cake walk compared to 8 of these beasts plowing through a crowd of people. No doubt it would have made for some great video, but fortunately it never unfolded like that!

Mern, sorry to hear about your back. That once again confirms my thought that cars are overrated for their safety. You should have gotten a motorcycle.

01gt4.6 02-11-2013 04:43 AM

Okay, I'm being harrased into making goals.:o

1) water, a gallon a day
2) eat better (that's not saying much)
3) take all vitamins
4) walk 7 miles (at one time)
5) make it out to NOLA to meet up with Hope and her DH
6) take the new gun out shooting (Tori, that means I'm gonna bus a cap in some targets)

01gt4.6 02-11-2013 04:47 AM

okay, my last attempt to put the size of these beast into perspective.
https://www.co.jefferson.co.us/jeffc...ydesdales5.JPG

They are bigger than the mountains. :p

Atta boy!!! I can help you with goal #5 and maybe even #2 LOL.
Mike, you are BA!!! What's this about a gun?

Great pix of Clydesdales and great "picture painting."
BTW y'all, Mike doesn't mention how cute the horses were, nuzzling each other and one even danced. Awwwwwwww.....

Mern 02-11-2013 06:39 AM

Mike, if I had a motorcycle I'd probably get run over by a semi or something. I'll take the wrenched back from getting out of the car awkwardly. LOL I love Clydesdales-- and your pics are fantastic! :) We were fortunate to see them at a tour of a Budweiser plant in New Hampshire many years ago. Nice goals, especially walking 7 miles!

Hope, hi! Aw, that sweet that the horses were nuzzling each other. I've been using aspirin for my back. Decided against the heat because it's already burning from the soreness, but gentle stretching sounds more helpful than the slower aerobic walking I had planned. Thanks.

01gt4.6 02-11-2013 06:48 AM

Oh Mern, I can't take credit for those pics. They were just some that I found on google. I didn't bring my camera last night because we had a 90% chance of rain.

Hope has a good pic on her hubby's phone of the 3 of us. If she sends it to me, I'll post it up. Although according to Tori, my cheeks are chubby.

I try to tread lightly (at times) so I try to answer this without stepping on toes. As far as the gun, I don't feel that our government has the right to tell me that I can't protect myself or my family. I'm pretty sure that is the underlying motive and that's the direction that it's headed. 20 years ago I owned a shotgun, for hunting. I sold it years ago and haven't had a gun since. I just picked up a 9mm handgun for self protection. In Louisiana you can "open carry" (walk around with a gun on your hip). I don't want to draw attention to myself so I've signed up for the CWP (concealed weapons permit) so I can carry concealed. I pray that I never need to use it... almost as much as I've prayed to not be in a situation where I needed a gun, but didn't have one. As they say, it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Unfortunately, part of the media portrays gun owners as gun toting vigilantes. But as you know, 4 people were shot on Bourbon Street the other night, probably by a criminal if I had to guess. Like the old bumper sticker says "if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them". I don't wish to get into a shootout in a crowded street but if my life is in danger, I want to have the proper training to defend myself, without hurting the innocent around me. Last night, can you guess where my car was?? In my car because I haven't taken the safety class (which the CWP class is).

That's as lightly as I can tread without voicing my true feelings. ;)

Jezzie8 02-11-2013 07:36 AM

Happy Monday everyone. The scale lied to me on Friday - my week away added a whopping 6 pounds not 1.6 :( Guess it took a day to catch up. So being good about tracking. Discovered a new recipe - Quinoa Frittatas - delish. Stretched the recipe to 8 servings instead of 6 - about 160 calories each so not bad. Also trying to get my water in! That's tough for some reason? I am dealing with shoulder/arm problems so am limited to walking for now :( Have to go for surgery to have a lump removed besides the bursitis. Must be getting old LOL

ToriD1012 02-11-2013 10:20 AM

Okay, I guess since my Bubba made goals, I will too. Nothing too major though. Mainly Home/Life stuff.

Health/Fitness
1--keep doing what works
2--try to drink more water

Home/Life
1--get WHN's Valentine Gift
2--spend time with The Jassimonster
3--start working on the embroidery (didn't I make this same goal a couple of weeks ago?)

That's it. Nothing too hard.

I still don't understand all these people saying Mike is a "true southern gentleman". MAN, does he have y'all snowed!! I give him credit, he's a good big brother but that's about as far as it goes :) And the only reason he brought me King Cake was to sabatoge me :p And then he dropped a lot of curse words. I think he might have a look alike, and that's who he's sending out as "Mike". That way he can protect his true self and not run everybdy off.

Hope-Enjoy yourself! Don't get into too much trouble (if you listen to Mike you're bound to get in trouble)

Cassie & Jenn-Hope you're starting to feel a little bit better

Mern-Take care of yourself lady! A hurt back is nothing to be messed around with.

Jezzie-Don't let the scale get to you. It can definitely be a bitch from time to time.

I believe we're missing a lot of people....Quinn?? Joanna? Robin?? Darlene? Where are all y'all???

As we say in Noo Yawk how `bout them Mets? Or since we're in NOLA how `bout them Saints? (only team here I know of.)

Fellow Fitdayers, if two New Yorkers get shot in NOLA because the husband allegedly put ectasy in a La. resident's fish, you know who done it.

Robingen 02-11-2013 11:52 AM

Hi Tori I am here. Not much to say really, same old goals as every week.

1) 1200-1400 cals per day
2) one green tea per day
3) make a healthy lunch

And I think I need to add another goal for water because I think I am not drinking enough

4) track water

Went for a walk today, it was the first time in a while. Didn't feel too great. Probably did too much.

Stranded at my office right now, another storm. It's ok I am catching up stuff. Feels good really.

Hope and Mike sounds like you guys had fun.

Cassie and Jenn hope you guys are feeling better.

Robingen 02-11-2013 11:55 AM

Jezzie I bought some quinoa at the behest of my "eating clean" neighbour. I have no idea what to do with it. lol. I am not very adventurous when it comes to cooking.

wildbeanerz 02-11-2013 11:55 AM

I am back. 20lbs heavier and not happy about it. I am NOT looking for pity just maybe someone that has been there too. I have not been doing what I need to do since about August of last year and it shows. I half heartedly put forth effort for a week or so then get derailed again. So here I am.

I am making one goal this week.

IF YOU START IT, FINISH IT.

This goes for so much stuff in my life right now from dishes and laundry to glasses of water, workouts and bigger home projects. I am realistic and know that not all things can be finished the same day but I know what I need to do.

Thanks in advance for welcoming me back.

W00T, W00T, welcome back!

01gt4.6 02-11-2013 12:16 PM

Welcome back April! I can't say that I've been there... I AM THERE!

Where your ears burning yesterday?

wildbeanerz 02-11-2013 12:30 PM

Yesterday? Why? Where you talking about me? LOL

Thanks Cassie!

cjohnson728 02-11-2013 12:38 PM

I am struggling too...old patterns, working too much, not saying no, making myself the lowest priority. Time to stop, because doing what I've always done will get me what I always got, which was not healthy physically or emotionally. And my tail is being kicked on both fronts right about now.

Goals now, then I will check in later.

1. 1300 calories max daily.
2. Exercise 5 times this week.
3. Log everything.
4. Eat clean; no trigger foods.
5. 64 oz. fluids daily.
6. Take vitamins and supplements.

Robingen 02-11-2013 12:45 PM

Hi April

Nice to meet you! I assume from what you wrote and the response that you have been here before.

Cassie- what happened? working too hard? Not putting yourself first? We know where that goes. Hope you are feeling better.

Hi, go to the site allrecipes.com and look for quinoa fritattas - I really like them
And of course there are other recipes to try :)

cjohnson728 02-11-2013 01:54 PM

Robin, I love this one, too Perry's Plate: Dishing up real-food recipes and really good desserts Grilled Garlic Shrimp + Quinoa with Garlic, Nuts, & Raisins But I usually cook the shrimp in a frying pan and not on the grill; it's just quicker.
And yes, I know better. I just did not practice what I preach. I have a light week this week, relatively, so no better time to get back on track.

And as Jezzie of the lovely cat avatar says, allrecipes is a great site...you can search by ingredient, so go there and type in quinoa; you will find quite a few possibilities.

cjohnson728 02-11-2013 03:19 PM

1. 1300 calories max daily. 1258
2. Exercise 5 times this week. One
3. Log everything. Yes

So far, so good! Hope everyone had a great Monday!

Mern, I hope your back is better soon.

Thanks for the sibling rivalry lols, Mike & Tori!

dmartz 02-11-2013 11:49 PM

Monday Recap

Goals:
  • Workout > 30 mins x 4: Y
  • Cholesterol < 250mg: 203
  • Protein > 50 g: 52
  • Sugar < (??? g): ~
  • Vegetables > 3 /day: Y
  • Calories < 1750: 1283
Jenn: if you feel tired and achy, take a cue from Hope: stretch!

Robin, Jenn: Here's another recipe that sounds good. I mentioned last week that I'm a big fan of Emeril's recipies, no matter how much I muck with them they always seem to come out great: Quinoa Salad with Onions, Oranges, and Olives

April: Welcome back. Love your motto "If you start it, finish it." Though it does occur to me that that sometimes it's best to cut your losses, early! Do you have any weight goals, now that you're back?

Cassie: Sounds like you're juggling too many eggs. Maybe time to make some omelets?

Hope, Mike: I must say I'm kinda jealous. But I started a new job last week so too early to take off. I chose this job because it's in many ways very different from my last one. Life is an adventure!

APRIL!!! Welcome back my friend! I think a lot of us are in tr "Eehhh" kind of mentality. Mine started around the same time yours did. About the time I realized that I was completely and utterly lost without WHN. I didn't gain anything until he got home though. I maintained within a few pounds, then started cooking all the stuff he likes....none of which is healthy. I indulged him, and found myself indulging too. I'd occasionally make those half hearted attempts to climb back on the wagon, but my heart just wasn't in it. I think what made me go AGHHHHHHHGH was when the scale started creeping toward 200 again. We'll get there. We've just got to pull each other along at times.

Health/Fitness
1--keep doing what works--pretty much
2--try to drink more water--not enough

Home/Life
1--get WHN's Valentine Gift--done!
2--spend time with The Jassimonster--no, had to wait on a UPS package
3--start working on the embroidery (didn't I make this same goal a couple of weeks ago?)--not yet

Donna-I inadvertently left you out my "who's missing". Sorry :o Your hitting it hard on your goals! Good job!!

Cassie-Goals are looking good! Keep it up!

Robin-Hey! I knew I could count on you for another week!!

Will check in back later! Ciao my peeps

Yes, you could say I've been here before LOL. I used to be a regular and then I got lazy and didn't feel like posting anymore. I realize that I need to have something in my life to make me accountable besides looking in the mirror and seeing how flabby my belly gets instantly when I quit exercising and gain any weight.

- Donna

Yes, sometimes it is easier to know when to quit. No weight goals right now other than to stay off the scale until my body feels better. I know I am fat right now and there is no sense in stepping on the scale just to reaffirm that fact. I need a solid two weeks of eating right and doing some form of exercise before that scale & I can be on speaking terms again.

Yesterday was a good day. I went a little overboard in the evening with snacking but compared to my recent days, this was a good one. I ate healthy all day until the snack time and then it was healthy just too much quantity. I also walked 2 miles on my lunch yesterday and cleaned the fish tank last night after work. Oh...and put away some snowmen that remained out for winter decor from the family/dining room because we are getting ready for a big renovation down there. I'm excited for it to get started. Oh who am I kidding? I'm excited for it to be done!

I consider yesterday a win! Now onto today. I brought nothing but healthy foods for breakfast, lunch & snack so if I stick to my "eat what you brought" rule, all day will be good. Tonight may end up as a pizza night though because we have a mason coming to estimate our chimney that is part of the family room redo (woodburner installation).

Hope you all have an awesome day!!

wildbeanerz 02-12-2013 01:37 AM

Jenn-I think we've all had that day where our best intentions go to pot. How we respond the next day is what counts. Make today a good one :)
