Fresh Start 7 day Motivational Thread 1/4/16

It's a new year, time to pick ourselves back up (if we've fallen) and get back to the grind.

My goals for the week:

1) log food/water
2) drink 100 oz of water a day
3) drink a bottle of water BEFORE I eat a meal
4) lose 1 pound

canary52 01-04-2016 01:59 AM

Hi Mike!! Are you gonna join the spring weight loss challenge? We could use a little testosterone lol.

Goals:
1) 6 glasses of water
2) walk daily
3) eat clean

I can, however, if y'all are only looking for a little testosterone, I might not be too welcomed.

Hi Mike and Hope!

I fell off the wagon over Christmas (planned and willing), and then it took the week after Christmas to get back in the groove. I think I've got things under control now, and I'm looking forward to a great year.

If you haven't come on for the Spring Challenge, Thinner, Healthier, Better You, come join us here.

My goals:
1. log everything
2. something resembling exercise

01gt4.6 01-04-2016 02:26 AM

Lisa, it happens, get back up on that horse!

I want to issue a challenge. This thread has been slow lately, I know I haven't been much help. If there's someone that's missing, that you'd like to see, that has fallen by the wayside or just strayed away... send them a private message. Check in on them. Invite them back, tell them how much they are missed and how they've helped you.

If you can't remember for sure their name, here's our member list. it's alphabetical, or you can click on the tab for posts and find those that have been active on here. http://www.fitday.com/fitness/forums/members/list/

I'm ba-ack! (Didja miss me?:D) Hi there, Mike! Happy New Year to you and everyone!

So, yeah, new year and a restart. I tried an experiment last year -- work conscientiously on diet/nutrition from January through August, then "wing it" for the remainder of the year. The first part of the year involved daily weighing, logging and reporting/recording results. The last part involved doing NONE of the above. The kicker was (is) that at the start of the new year, I MUST report the results.

I didn't start 2015 with this plan in mind. It sort of just evolved though the year. Basically, I realized that daily weighing and logging isn't something I think I can maintain forever. So I wanted to see what would happen if I just stopped.

That didn't mean I gave myself license to eat anything and everything, all day every day. But I did allow myself a lot of slack. I didn't deny myself anything. If I wanted it (as in truly wanted/craved it), I allowed myself to have it. I tried to use moderation -- most of the time. Instead of having the whole thing, I portioned it out into single servings (and immediately froze the other bits) and had just a bit when needed. And if I did overindulge for a day or two (ok, a week -- hello, holidays), I tried to be reasonable after.

More importantly, I allowed no guilt whatsoever. If I was going to eat it, I was darn-well going to enjoy it. If I didn't think I was going to truly enjoy it, I passed on it. It wasn't has difficult to do as I would have thought.

It was a gamble, but one I needed to take. I NEEDED a break from the daily regimen. I NEEDED a break from having food and nutrition top of mind. I needed to breathe. I assumed I'd gain 4-5 pounds and was ready to accept up to 10 pounds . Wouldn't like it, but I was prepared to accept it.

Well, it's the beginning of the new year and I'm thrilled to report the results weren't nearly as disastrous as I envisioned. True, I gained, but it was "only" 2.25 pounds. After this diet vacation, I'm ready to get back to diligence. Ready to remove those 2.25 and have a few more chase after it. I think I'll do weekly weigh-ins for 2016, with Mondays being my target day.

Today is Monday, so here I am. We'll see how it goes from here :).

episode2011 01-04-2016 02:50 AM

Hehe I stepped away from the computer before submitting my post and the thread grew! Hi there and Happy New Year, Hope and Lisa!

01gt4.6 01-04-2016 02:55 AM

Epixi, not too shabby at all. You sound a little like me. I'm an 'all or nothing' kinda guy. I'm full blast... or nothing. I use to weigh myself every day, it gets to be a daunting task. I'm going to tri to weigh myself every few days. I doubt that'll work. I'm sure I'll be back on the scale in the morning.

libby135 01-04-2016 03:05 AM

Hi all. Holy Moly, this is the busiest this thread has been in a long while. Just glad to see so many of you here. We have the Friday weigh-in and the Monday SPRING CHALLENGE to keep us on track. It should be a good year for us all.

01gt4.6 01-04-2016 03:15 AM

Just "talked" to quinniepoo, she'll be back, ready to kick butt next week!

quinnesec 01-04-2016 03:36 AM

Yep! I'll be dragging my tail back for some maintenance on Monday. I still have a houseful of company until the weekend. But, Monday morning, I will be back and SO ready to get back to work. =)

Time to get back to daily walking and clean eating. I really miss my healthy foods and I miss all of you! See you soon!

Quinn =)

lildebbieg 01-04-2016 03:52 AM

Hi all :) Glad to see so many back here and posting. I've always found it motivating when more people are posting. I did some serious damage in 2015 and have my work cut out for me to get healthy again....but I'm so ready to make a change and get to feeling comfortable in my own skin! I'm starting a new 12 week workout rotation this week which is awesome because it coincides with the Spring Challenge that Lisa started. I also plan to step on that scale daily again....I swear it's what used to keep me on track!

Weekly Goals:
Week 1 workouts:
2 extra cardio sessions:
10 glasses of water daily:
track food daily:
weigh in daily:

Let's make this a great week!! :D

01gt4.6 01-04-2016 07:10 AM

My dad wanted to check out the progress on the house so we drove out there. On the way back we stopped at chick fil a. Nearly 1000 calories later was my lunch. Ouch. A chicken sammich and fries could have wrecked my day. Oh well, I have the rest of the day to be good.

lildebbieg 01-04-2016 08:52 AM

Looking forward to a great year checking in with my fitday friends!!

Mike - Good on you for not letting one slip up dictate the rest of your day. I've done that more times than I can count! Hope the rest of your day goes as planned :)

Quinn - That's simply amazing to me that you hit your goal years ago and have been maintaining since! It's nice to see that it's actually possible!

Libby - You're right, this is the busiest it's been here in a long while! So nice!!

Epixi - Nice to see you back!! You've been missed!! That's awesome that you were able to take a break and not gain weight!! 2 lbs. is not a gain...that's a mere fluctuation!! ;)

Lisa - Whatever happened to PiYo? Not your thing? Are you still walking with your daughters? Glad to hear you're back on track after the Christmas holidays.

Hope - Glad to see you posting here again!! You too have been missed :)

Weekly Goals:
Week 1 workouts: Mon - check
2 extra cardio sessions:
10 glasses of water daily: Mon - yes
track food daily: Mon - yes
weigh in daily: Mon - yes

I just finished my first workout. Week 1 Day One in the books! Today was chest, triceps and shoulders. I'm hoping to find some time this evening to do some cardio on the bike. If anyone is interested in the workouts I'm doing (Mike, I know you used to be a gym goer) I'm following along with the Labrada Slim Body Challenge. I'm not officially joining because quite frankly, if I won (loooong stretch!!) I wouldn't want my pictures published for the world to comment on. The only opinion of my appearance I'm concerned with is my own....and possibly my husband too ;)

rosabella2012 01-04-2016 09:25 AM

Hello! I didn't get to weight this morning but I will in the morning and post later.
It's so good to see all the folks I've missed!
Found out I don't have to work tomorrow, so I have plans to hit the gym! In fact, I already have my workout planned and printed.
It's been a tough Holiday season on me--I've lost 5 friends since Dec 15th and had 2 funerals already this year.

Goals:
1. 8 glasses water
2. Log ALL foods eaten--even stray bites!
3. Cut out the 'tasting'
4. Increase the workouts.
5. Diet: Increase fiber and keep fats <50 gms/day

Vicki

You're not talking about ME are you??? How much have you missed me? How have I helped you? These are things I need to know:D:cool:

Yeahhhh...it's been a while. a LONG while. Anyway, new year, new start.

Goals for the week are:

1: log it all!!
2: water, water, water!! at least 3 bottles
3: keep calories to a minimum, under 1800 for the restart. will reevaluate when needed
4: try not to yell at the doggies, even when they slam me into trees
5: lose 1 pound

I should be able to handle that...I think...

AZLisaLou 01-04-2016 09:42 AM

So nice to see so many people joining us! Like Debbie, I love it when the thread is busy. It's so motivating to hear from all of you.

Talking about you? Heck no fool! Miss you? Ha! I'd miss you about as much as I'd miss a boil in a sensitive area. Help me? By driving me nuts! Welcome back slacker!:D

BTW good goals, if you yell at TBM I'm going to kick your ass! Leave that poor baby alone!

TBM didn't do it. It was the *other* one. He's slightly ADD, kinda like someone else I know. Anyway. He was dragging a log around the yard (cause that's what he likes to do) and then he went toward the creek. About the time we made it to the water he decided to go back for the log. He swung around a tree as fast as he could. I didn't even have time to drop the leash. My whole right side slammed into the tree. I may or may not have cursed. Loudly.

ToriD1012 01-04-2016 10:00 AM

WTH?? I just got off the computer from logging all of my supper, checked on my phone and it's not logged!!! I'm a tad bit peeved.

Did you check it to see if it's logged on the computer?

Not yet. Will check when BF gets up for work.

AZLisaLou 01-04-2016 10:19 AM

Debbie, regarding PiYo, I really want to do it. The first night I tried it though I injured my feet pretty badly where I could barely walk for nearly a month. They're still not great yet, so I'm just waiting for them to feel a bit better to try again. Sara and I can't seem to coordinate when we are willing to go on walks. We have so much going on in our evening schedules that makes it super difficult. She decided she's going to take Yoga for her required PE class next year in high school, and she's really looking forward to it. So I'm thinking she may like PiYo too. I'm not giving up on PiYo.

So today was the last day of the New Year's challenge. I lost 10.2 lbs over 12 weeks. Although a far bit off from my goal, I still think my results should be considered a success. I feel pretty good about it. Looking forward to our spring challenge!!!

rainbow24 01-04-2016 10:33 AM

It looks like a busy thread already.

I am failing miserably at recording my intake, but I did get out to walk today.

My goals for this week as part of getting back on the wagon:
  1. Walk at least 3 days
  2. Groom one of the horses at least once
  3. Get outside and spend at least 1 hour cleaning up the driveway or yard

Okay, let me know. I may have to have tech look into this if it's an ongoing issue. Now shuddit and go walk a few miles!

You went through a difficult time of the year (food wise) and still averaged a loss of almost a pound a week. Pretty good!

gypsyjoy 01-04-2016 10:56 AM

May I join in?

Goals for the week:
1. Drink 60 ounces of water daily
2. Workout at least 150 minutes a week
3. Log foods keeping macros in mind

All of a sudden it's on the phone now too. So, I guess it was just having a Monday moment.

Just a little over 1300 calories for the day. Enough for a snack before bed. Not bad for day one.

libby135 01-04-2016 03:25 PM

Hi all. It's good to see so many familiar people back again. One name I don't see is Mern. Does any one know how she is doing?

lildebbieg 01-05-2016 12:36 AM

Good morning all :) Last night, I meal prepped some protein waffles for breakfast the next few days. The first batch I tried were a total fail! I tried another recipe and they looked decent so I packed them up for my breakfast. I just tried them and they were actually pretty good!! A little drier than the waffles I make for the family, but still really good! It's nice to try a new recipe with success....keeps me from getting bored with food ;)

Libby - Another couple of people I haven't seen around for a long while is Terri and Bea. I did send Terri a few messages, but never heard back from her. I hope Mern, Terri and Bea join in again!

Have a great day all! :D

01gt4.6 01-05-2016 01:17 AM

My goals for the week:

1) log food/water yes
2) drink 100 oz of water a day yes (140oz)
3) drink a bottle of water BEFORE I eat a meal yes
4) lose 1 pound

I went for a walk last night with a friend, yes Tori, I have friends. It wasn't much, we did 2.32 miles in 37:38. A little behind my normal pace but still not bad for walking and talking.

My scale says I'm down 1.6 from yesterday but I know how stupid they can be. I'm not going to count that as a success, unless I FINISH the week down a pound.

Water, yes I had water, water and more water. Seven 20oz. bottles! I'll be happy if I can get in 5 a day. Well see how today goes. I'm starting bottle number 1 now.

Did you message them? Protein waffles seem to be hit and miss. I made some a couple years back that were decent. I think it had egg whites, protein powder and some oats to hold it together.

libby135 01-05-2016 02:16 AM

Debbie, your protein waffles reminded me of MIM's muffin in a minute that I used to make for breakfast. It was very good and filling and I will make them again. I remember Terri and Bea. I hope that they come back. I am so grateful to have found this group of wonderful people on the Fitday site. We will get to our goal weight with the support of our Fitday friends.

ToriD1012 01-05-2016 03:01 AM

I was going through my old journal entries and found this. I actually cried while reading it because I can remember feeling that way. This was in May of 2012. I had met BF in March of that year and shortly after he was stationed in Germany to finish out his service. He came home in October of that year. It seems like a lifetime ago, yet just like yesterday.

I'm tired. Of everything. I'm tired of having to try so hard. I'm tired of having to constantly worry about what I'm eating. I'm tired of having to worry about whether or not I've exercised. I'm tired of being the one who's 35 and still single. I'm tired of always being the 3rd wheel. I'm tired of being alone. I know that I won't always be, it just seems that way right now. I just want to quit, and give up. And I'm tired of knowing that I let a man get me this way. I've never been a needy person until now. October can't come soon enough.

I still feel some of these emotions. I'm still tired of having to try so hard, of having to constantly watch what I eat, how much of it, and how much exercise I get in. It sucks, but it's my life. I'm no longer the 3rd wheel, no longer 35 (wish that I were!), and no longer single. We have a wonderful life together (minus his pushy and meddlesome family). We just bought our first home in February 2015, we have good jobs, and two wonderful furbabies. When he got home I got comfortable. Too comfortable. I gained back almost all of what I had lost. I won't blame him (Shuddit Mike!). It was my fault. I lost focus on myself and let myself slip into old patterns. Seems like we never stop learning. Time for me to focus on me again. I'm like Mike, all or nothing. It's time to give it my all again.
