The keto diet (short for ketogenic diet) is a low-carb, high-fat diet. It works by cutting down carbs so much that your body goes into a state called ketosis, where it burns fat for energy instead of carbs.
In simple terms:
- Eat: meat, eggs, cheese, nuts, low-carb veggies, healthy fats.
- Avoid: bread, pasta, rice, sugar, most fruits.
