A friend who doesn't gain weight

I have a friend of mine who is working in night shifts but doesn't gain any weight. Thus, he even losses weight. Lol. What can you advice from that kind of situation?

Why I am here having problems on how to loss my weight and fats!

Kathy13118 07-13-2016 03:32 AM

You don't say how busy your friend is on his job. It could be that he doesn't even have time to eat! He gets a few opportunities to eat, maybe, and he chooses foods that are not loaded with calories. Then, he goes home and he's tired. He makes the decision not to eat before he goes to sleep. He sleeps half the day and the only time when he has to worry about bad food choices is between waking up and getting ready for his shift.

Does he need advice? Does he want to gain weight? Sounds to me like he has a good situation!

Yes. He badly wanted to gain weight but is lazy enough to join me in my workout. And you are correct, work consumed all of his time.

I am challenge to make a plan on how to help him or encourage in such a way he will workout with me.

It's your food and beverage intake and your physical activity that ultimately determine how much you weigh, he's probably eating healthy despite having irregular schedule and his work involves physical activities that is making him lose weight.

Hi dude, I am in the same position, we have 2 weeks off school and theres a fine girl i want to impress, over the last week I skipped lunch at school and kept the money for electronics =p
I have also been doing 60-120 sit ups per day, i am a large 60kg, I am 15, the top end of 9 stone

I can feel abs coming through, and my stomach going down
If you intend to have 3 meals per day here is what i advise

Breakfast - Bran flakes / Special k
Lunch- Tuna/salad/apple and slice of unbuttered bread/pear and piece of toast
Dinner -Wholemeal Pasta (it's brown and healthier) with any type of fish I advise Salmon, steam it and mix with the pasta, do not be tempted to add cheese

It feels like you have me on CCTV surveillance.

I am suffering from the exact same problem.

Due to an erratic college life, I skipped so many breakfasts, that it is practically out of habit now. Too lazy to eat. That lethargy has now culminated into a low appetite. Therefore, even if I eat something filling, I'm done for the day.

Does your friend also have a low appetite?

We can't say for sure how much our ancestors ate, but most likely there haven't been long periods of 'too much' food in our evolutionary history.

"We do know that frequent and extended famines in parts of the world have encouraged the evolution of the body's ability to store fat quickly and be very efficient in its use of fat (cellular energy) to do the work required for muscle exertion and maintenance of bodily functions," says Professor Michael Cowley, director of Monash University's Obesity and Diabetes Institute.

So, I have a friend I have been living with for the last 6 months. He eats everything, he has been thin all his life. Its not that he goes out and plays a lot , nor does he do anything that might burn all the fat he eats, yet for some reason he stays very slim . I am perplexed at how our bodies work to digest fat. He suggests that he has higher metabolism ? now is it a good thing or a bad thing , having higher metabolism?

I am Fitness Trainer and I face these kinds of queries on regular basis. Even many of my clients are working on this problem (how to gain muscles mass) and their weight is improving.

It is very tough for a skinny person to build muscles or gain mass but it's not impossible. If he is doing right exercises and consuming right diet then it is possible.

I am researching on this from a very long time, and I found some valuable sources https://musclebuilding.pro/blog/best...n-muscle-mass/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR6ysjEeJvI and they actually work for my clients and they find it effective also. And I hope you also find it useful and it will also help you in gaining muscles mass.

Probably working during the night will have something to do with metabolic rate, same thing happened with me, didn't have to diet while I worked then shifts.

AngelatTorres 06-02-2017 10:08 PM

Tell him to have nutritional diet.

RobertHorner 06-29-2017 04:52 AM

Maybe your friend has slow metabolism and should get that checked, some people can lose weight quickly, others the complete opposite

davidjeams 06-29-2017 09:23 PM

i need also tips ..

wendywestover 07-13-2017 05:46 PM

You can try some weight gaining supplements it gives proper nutrition to body. Or consult to a dietitian. :)

Your friend is burning more calories than he is taking in. People that seem to eat what you do but you gain and they don't is usually because of their higher NEAT (Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis). These are calories you burn just getting through your day that don't include your exercise program. When people speak of slow metabolism it's generally just low NEAT

Amy732 08-24-2017 03:18 PM

The only way you can gain weight is by eating more. It sounds like your friend struggles to find time to eat enough. I would suggest he goes for calorie dense meals/snacks that are quick and easy. Some examples include:
-nuts
-avocado or peanut butter on high protein bread
-shakes! these are a super easy way to get in calories... 1-2 scoop protein, oats, milk of choice, peanut butter, banana- blend and enjoy
-whole eggs cooked in coconut oil, avocado, toast, spinach, tomato (can also make this into an omelette to take on the go)
-coconut yoghurt with granola, nuts and berries
-chia seed pudding, put in a jar to take to work- here's a recipe Link removed
-protein bars- these are often high in calories, just look for ones that have as natural ingredients as possible https://www.muscleforlife.com/health...n-bar-recipes/

For healthy gain, eat a lot of good fats, such as avocados, nuts and seeds, meat, bananas, eggs... and exercise a lot!

avandraz 11-07-2017 04:56 PM

i agree with you ts

DavidWallace 11-08-2017 04:48 AM

he isn't eating enough throughout the day

Goodacre39 11-12-2017 05:20 AM

A friend of mine had an overactive thyroid condition. They could eat whatever they wanted and would stay thin.

Missy53186 11-12-2017 08:28 PM

I know I'm new to the forums but I have to say this, just because one is 'thin' or normal weight, does *not* necessarily mean they are healthy either. As many have said already, it's all down to how you move and what you eat.

Take a normal weight person who lives off of white bread sandwiches with no veggies and soda all day compared to an over weight person who eats balanced meals, doesn't drink soda but does drink water but just eats too much of it. That over weight person, despite having the extra weight, I promise will be healthier then his/her normal weight counter part.

So yes, it really does come down to what you eat and how you move. The moving part isn't always what is needed, when it really comes down to these persons that lose or stay the same weight no matter what you see them eat, really need a place like fitday here to keep track of what they are eating, how many calories they are actually taking in and to be able to look back on a day/week/month and see how much of their food is actually healthy food and not just junk/soda/empty calories.

raygentry 12-20-2017 06:56 PM

Even i lost weight in Night shifts. No proper diets and health loss, fatigue happened. So its not necessary that weight gains during night shifts.

yuri87 02-14-2018 09:44 PM

Sometimes it's as difficult for skinny people to gain weight than it is for larger people to lose weight.

wannabeit 02-14-2018 10:19 PM

I also have a friend who doesnt gain weight, i think some people are just different then other.

danielpatrik 02-21-2018 06:03 PM

Advise your friend to eat more calories than what he burns. Ask him to eat lot of proteins and carbs and eat atleast 3 times a day. Tell your friend to eat energy dense foods,
