7 Day Motivational Thread Starting 6.4.12
I'm back in and ready to work hard... how about you?? :D Goals to follow...
|
Weekly Goals:
1. Walk daily, weather permitting. 2. Calories between 1000-1200... I know it's low, but it's just for 2 weeks. 3. 3-4 fruits and veggies daily. 4. NO bread, cheese, frozen yogurt, etc. Think clean, clean, clean food. 5. Loose 2-3 lbs. this week... results on Saturday. 6. 80-100 oz. of liquids a day. |
Back for another try! been gone with family issues...
1. log all food. 2. stay in 1600-1800 caloric range. 3. walk 10,000 steps daily. 4. Drink water- at least 64 oz per day. 5. Keep calm, pray daily, hourly for patience. |
Yo, Quinn! Thanks for starting us off this week. :)
I'm so ready to start off AND FINISH this week with clean eating, ample water, and exercise. Stepped on my fickle scale this morning and was delighted that the first three times it read 212.5 and the fourth time it read 213.5. I usually weigh three times and take the highest as my official weight because it often gives me three different numbers when I step on it three times in a row. I jinxed myself by stepping on it the fourth time. ;) But that's OK--I managed to maintain my pre-graduation celebration weight of 213.5. If I see 212.5 on that scale tomorrow, I'm claiming it as real and official. LOL I take fish oil for high cholesterol and triglycerides. Adding red yeast rice powder capsules at suggestion of my doctor (warning: should be used ONLY with your doctor's approval as it has interactions with several prescription drugs. But I read online that even if you aren't on any other meds, you STILL should have your doc's approval to use red yeast rice as a supplement. Goals this week: Calorie limit 1500 Carbs limit 25g Fiber minimum 25g Dietary Cholesterol limit average 250mg Saturated fat average 11% of total calories Protein average 120g Water 64 oz. Exercise 5 times |
1.) Workout x3
2.) Stay under 1500 calories/day 3.) Drink 64 oz. of water/day 4.) Keep studying for candidacy exam in August Same goals as usual, I think...magically gained 3 lbs over the weekend, but I imagine it's some water weight from eating out and also from my sore muscles from yesterday's hike. |
I hear my presence has been requested ;)
I haven't had a lot of time lately for posting and I wasn't able to keep up with the thread anymore so I kind of stopped posting and just kept tracking. I have been doing well at not gaining but I am still stuck in the mid 240's range since early in April. Today it is 243.6lbs. I have gotten it as low at 241.6 on Friday but then Aunt Flo came a knocking (even though she isn't supposed to anymore). I have learned not to let it bug me as long as within the next week I get it back down where it was. Especially this week. I have to get back where I was because Friday we are leaving for a weekend (Fri-Mon) in the woods by the lake!! Oh yeah! R&R is much needed and well earned in our house this year. We bought a used pop-up early in spring and have spent some time cleaning it up and I am so ready for campfires and walks in the woods. Things have been going pretty well at our house. The oldest son is almost on honor roll for the final grades this year. He would be if he hadn't pulled a D in science for missing a project in the first marking period. But first year in high school and we had a lot going on. I can't be too hard on him. LOL ... Youngest son is still going to special school with therapy. He will be attending Mon-Fri all summer as well. Currently we are working to make sure if he needs to do academics during the summer to make sure that he passes 7th grade this year. I don't want him held back another year. He had an extra year in between K-garten & 1st grade for maturity so he will already turn 19yrs old within a week of graduation if he doesn't get held back any more. I don't want him to be 20 if I can prevent it. He is doing much better at home. I hear he is still having trouble with peers and authority at school which lets me know he is not ready to go back into public school yet. Maybe till the start of the new school year but I am not pushing it. I am not up to dealing with all of that again right now anyway. This school has been the best thing that we have found for him so far and I feel it just needs the time to work for him. He has to learn to trust the Dr there and in the past 2 times that we were there I felt him opening up just a little more. Laughing and talking so I know he is going to come around, it's just a matter of time & being stubborn. I thought maybe you would like to see an updated picture or two so here goes.... 85lbs lost!! ... http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u...37716559-1.jpg These are my jeans. Size 30 on the bottom....size 16 on the top! 7 sizes lost!! I resized this but it keep showing up huge on my screen. Sorry! http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u...oads/jeans.jpg I guess that's about all the update for me...how have the rest of you been? |
Welcome back ladies! Awesome job April!
Tori said that I could make both of our goals. I figured I'd change it up a bit. First I put up some goals between us, then I'll list Tori specific goals and specific goals for myself. First things first, we both have to make our journal public for this week and post the link. Now that I got that out the way, IT'S ON LIKE http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...OaTRYRxBN96XI6 Tori vs. Mike Goals 1) highest % of weight lost (post beginning weight) 2) most ounces of water per day 3) most servings of fruits/veggies (fresh, frozen, V8, doesn't matter) 4) least amount of bread 5) most miles walked Tori specific 1) find a new doctor 2) no smokes 3) no frozen dinners (frozen lunch is okay if you are working) Mike specific 1) write 3 policies 2) no Blasts  3) 2 RAK 01gt4.6 - free online diet and fitness journal |
Go, Quinn, not only back but starting us out!!! Yeah!!! She's back... with a vengeance (picture that being said in movie announcer voice.) Seriously it's so good to see you here.
And April, it is so good to hear from you. Hell yeah, we missed you. And so glad things seem to be going so well with your boys. They are both making such incredible progress; I hope you give youself credit for your patience and perserverance. You're such a great mom. Enjoy your weekend away. Love the picture of the jeans - worth a thousand words as they say. Keep going; you're doing great - on all counts. I for one am interested in the Mike/Tori challenge. Not sure who I'd bet on if I were a gambling woman. Just gonna have to root for both. Mern, thank you for letting me know I am not the only one who jumps on the scale at least 3x in a row. That last one always gets ya. Frenchhen, good luck with the goals; hope the issues resolve. And Joanna, those 3 pounds will be gone in a flash; just stick to your goals. Those are the stinking stealth pounds that sneak up on all of us. If you've been working out a lot, maybe it is muscle? A new week; let's make it a good one. |
Goals:
1) 8 glasses of water minimum 2) 1650 calories maximum 3) walk or gym (back permitting) 3x 4) stretch every day 5) 500 "real" words a day 5x a week 6) 1 hour writing a day 5x a week 7) 5 veggies/fruits per day 8) try not to worry soooooo much |
I'm in. Same goals as always. Hopefully I'll do better with them this week.
Good to see you, April! 1) 1,600 calories max/day (allow myself 1 guilt free day over 1,600) 2) do 2 exercises on days I don't work (walking/weights/gardening/Richard Simmons/stationary bike) 3) 20% protein minimum 4) 64oz water minimum 5) calorie deficit 700+ 6) take vitamins 7) lights out by 11 the night before |
Hey, Mern! You did better than I at the celebratory events this weekend... fell face first into the birthday cake... But, I'm back in the game now. What does red yeast rice powder do? Is it for High BP? I've never heard of that one before!
frenchhen, Nice to see you back! Yep, family issues can throw everything off course... calm, prayerful meditation is one of my secrets... especially when I'm out hiking. April! Nice to "see" you! Love your pictures... You look fantastic! You always seem to keep on track... I don't know how you do it! Glad to hear everything is going well. :) Mike, Buddy, Cupcake... No Sonic for you this week, my friend! No Blasts, burgers and fries... I need you to keep ME motivated! lol Start behaving or we might have to take your bike away!!! lol Hope, Thanks so much for all of your kind words and encouragement! Things are calm for the moment, and I'm enjoying every single minute of it! What kind of stretching do you do? I do a little lower-back friendly yoga but could use some new ideas. Nobe, Nice, steady weight-loss! You can do it this week... all of us slackers need to pull it together! ;) Well, I'm off to do some cooking and then out hiking in the first time in a LONG time! Beautiful weather like this can't be wasted! See you all later in the day! :) quinn |
I'm back and in for the week. Took a couple of weeks off - just too darn busy at work to try to keep up with everything and a few things had to give.
I ended the month much better than I thought - a total of 7.8 pounds and 13 inches total gone for good! A friend of mine in Arizona posted on facebook about a change in her eating habits and how much better she felt overall, etc. This is a grandmother of 8 who is fit, trim and bikes 75 miles a day as well as work, etc. So I asked her about her changes in eating habits and she explained to me her whole foods way of eating. Taking her advice on a few websites, books etc. I dove in to the research and have been following what I have read about. Miraculously it is working with very little effort. Basically a vegetarian diet but more importantly a diet that is full of fresh fruits and vegetables. It's not a 'diet' in terms of eliminating calories or certain foods for a short period of time, but a permanent change in your eating habits and the foods you choose. And it fits well with my way of eating when I do cook at home. So for me the biggest change is I must cook at home more and not eat out (which I love to do) My goals for the week: 1. Drink 100 oz of water 2. Bed by 11 pm 3. Walk / exercise everyday 4. Dishes everyday 5. Desk cleaned off by Thursday Here's to a great month of June! |
Will be back in a bit. Got some other things going on, but first want to shoot this reply to April.
April! Hi! I've been having a hard time getting my scale to move, too, and I think I MAY have finally gotten to that point. Hoping you are coming along for that ride. OMG, it's wonderful that you are able to go on that camping trip Friday. Wishing you a really great, relaxing time. Kudos on your oldest son's grades and I certainly do wish you the best with younger son's academic and therapy achievements. You and your DH deserve so much credit for the unconditional, loving support of your kids. Good for you for not pushing the mainstream school until you are convinced he can handle it. Aw, his laughing and talking must really be encouraging for you. OMG, I love that pic of you below--you look even younger than in your avatar. I am so jealous of your before size 30 and during size 16 yeans. What an exciting and well-deserved accomplishment. http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/funny/2/banana.gif I know how hard you worked for that! I was in a size 26-28 jean shorts last year and this year got size 18-20, so I'm right behind you. Even when I weighed 107 (yes, one hundred seven) I had to wear size 14 due to post childbirth pelvic spread, so my wide hips are forever. |
Quinn, I call it stretching but it is a little mini floor workout routine. I do some yoga stuff (cat pose, plank, child's prayer, downward facing dog) but also 3 types of ab crunches, and leg lifts. I also do runner's stretches, and stuff like dropping my lower back to the floor, bringing my knees to my chest. Lately I have been adding arm stuff, bicep curls, triceps stuff without weights: I hope to get to use weights again soon. I hope my back/ fibro stuff allows me to go to the gym or walk in the woods which I have been enjoying so much alone, with my friends, with DD or sometimes DH. Having chronic back/knee stuff for over 30 years, the one thing I learned is ya gotta move!!!
Mern, I too am curious about this red yeast rice powder of which you speak. |
Ughhh, just pigged out on fresh pineapple. It could've been worse I know but it's still a ton of sugar. Moral: do not eat and read.
|
Quinn, doc suggested the red yeast rice to help lower my high LDL (bad cholesterol) and high triglycerides because I refuse to accept the risks of statin class medications. They have come down quite a bit through diet and fish oil capsules, but not enough.
But she cautioned as did Mayo clinic, that use of red yeast rice is controversial and should never be taken without approval of one's doctor. I fought white knuckling it when live-in DH took her sister (off early from school due to exams this week) to the grocery store with her while I was typing my post to April. It was a really fun "first" for the two of them. :) |
Awww Mern, those GD trips to the grocery store are sweet! They will be closer together for having done stuff like that now.
Hope...I'm glad to hear that you are getting more stretching and movement going on with your fibro. That's gotta be tough. Mike & Tori...I hope I get to see the results of this week's challenge! Quinn...I honestly don't know how I seem to basically maintain either. I had a cupcake last night and licked the fingers, spatula, icing bag, etc while I made them. But was still about the same weight this morning. I really wish the scale would cooperate more often though! LOL With summer coming, I am much more into fresh foods. So far today I have eaten a Greek yogurt with a banana, 2 slices of tomato and about 1/3 of a huge cucumber cut up in a bowl with just black pepper sprinkled on for season (I was tempted to spritz on the ranch spritz but tried it without and it was yummy!) and two pickled eggs (just the whites) and I forced down two cubes of red beet too just because I should learn to eat them! That's a whopping 322 calories so far today with 229 of it being breakfast. So after my lunch walk here I will probably have an apple and a 90 calorie pack of graham crackers if the apple doesn't fix me up until dinner time. I am so loving this new way of eating. |
Hi everyone, glad to see you all here, and, from the sounds of it, doing so well! This group is so motivating :D.
Goals are the same for me, pretty much this week. I need to get that exercise going. I am really struggling with that one, with making the time for it, but it is key to me being sane and healthy. I keep hearing almeeker's voice in my head saying, "get up an hour earlier," but in truth, that would leave me sleeping about 5 hours and I don't think I can do that on a regular basis! So I need to get going on thinking of a creative way to get it in and that will be the goal I will not miss this week! 1. 1300 or fewer calories. 2. Make a pretty pie chart. 3. Drink water, drink water, drink water. 4. Exercise 6 hours. 5. Log everything; update goals daily. 6. Sleep 7 hours (per night, not per week :o). Plus tasks I've been putting off or we've been too busy to do: 7. Take the boy driving at least three times. 8. Replace family pics in frames on stairway and family room. |
Sorry, I need to rant :o
I'm grumpy as all get-out, and hubby just keeps making it worse and worse. After four years, he still doesn't get that if I'm sick and/or have PMS (it's both ATM), he needs to either be gentle and helpful or stay the %#&@ out of my way. Every 5 minutes he's saying "what's your problem?" and I have to say, again, "I'M SICK!" and then he gets mad at me for getting mad at him. Seriously, if he's going to be mad at me for being sick and grumpy, he just shouldn't come in the house. Yesterday I felt like I was going to pass out in the afternoon, and he just took off to run errands and left the kid with me. It wouldn't even occur to him to try to help me out when I don't feel well, but he gets mad at me for not being a ray of sunshine about it. He's so damn oblivious. Ugh. I think I'm just annoyed with the whole world today. Going to try not to deal with it by stuffing my face. Luckily there's no more cake. It's a cake kinda day. |

Can I join in too?
I would like to join this group! I am in 2nd week of Atkins induction and so far feel pretty good. No hunger pangs, no carb cravings either, which is AMAZING! I am even eating fewer calories, avg around 1300-1500/day (without starving!) Down 5 lb. so ½ way to my first mini-goal.
First major goal already met – reduce my blood sugar levels. My 3 month average was over 16, sugar starting to show up in urine so my dr. referred me to specialist as he thought I have to go on insulin  (yep, that was MY ‘a-ha’ moment) The appt with endocrinologist is for July 9. Happy to say I have an appt with my reg dr this Wednesday as he gave me add'l med to try and reduce my sugar levels and I had to stop taking it bcos it was making my bs level too LOW. My readings this past week are now almost normal – in the 6.0 range! :D I’m hoping he’ll tell me that we can cancel the specialist. Goals this week: 1. Drink more water – I am only averaging about 30 oz/day, not enough for initiation into pcc!:o 2. Start walking – Hope I am very encouraged by you. I have FM too, along with chronic pain and it is a struggle every day to move esp. since I am working full-time. I start tomorrow, even if it’s only 15 minutes it’s more than I’m doing right now! 3. Get more sleep – I normally get a good 8 hrs but the past couple of weeks have been crazy and my avg is only about 6. Need to get back on track. 4. Post my ‘before’ pics – I did get them taken this weekend, but last couple of days have been very busy, promise to post tomorrow. April, your pics are AMAZING. You go girl! Mike, I looked at your pics 210.4 vs 174: what I found most impressive was not just weight loss, but the overall difference in your posture. INCREDIBLE! I am very inspired by all of you and your ability to persevere and look forward to conversing! |
A quick check-in and I'm off to bed...

Lots of sunshine, hiking and catching up on lots of miscellaneous junk. :) And, most importantly, my food choices were stellar! lol |

Ah, sorry for my rant earlier. I was having an attack of feeling sorry for myself. Not a terrible day, all in all (goals-wise). I got out for a walk but I'm feeling really tired so I don't think I'll be doing much else. Otherwise, not bad. I decided to add goal #8 to try to keep myself from being too snacky.
1) 1,600 calories max/day (allow myself 1 guilt free day over 1,600) - 1491 2) do 2 exercises on days I don't work (walking/weights/gardening/Richard Simmons/stationary bike) - 1hr walking/nothing else 3) 20% protein minimum - 23% 4) 64oz water minimum - not sure; not enough 5) calorie deficit 700+ - 716 6) take vitamins - yes 7) lights out by 11 the night before - yes 8) no food after 8pm the night before - no |
Cate, welcome fellow low-carber! I was fortunate to catch my pre-diabetes (6.2 A1C average blood sugar) in time and fortunate to be able to reduce my blood sugar through diet and exercise alone. I have a wonderful doctor who also serves as my low carb dietitian. Now with normal blood sugar (5.6 A1C) I continue my lifestyle of a limit of 25 grams of net carbs per day: total grams of carbs less grams of fiber. My food list is a combination of Atkins and Carbohydrate Addicts LifeSpan Program. I'm so sorry that you have fibro like a few of our members have. My heart goes out to all of you. We have something else in common--I'm five foot nothing, too. :) Best wishes on your exercise--baby steps worked for me-- you can add more exercise as you and your doctor decide. Looking forward to getting to know you.
Nobe, aw, huge hugs to you! My DH never seemed to get it when I was sick either, so I understand where you're coming from. I hope you do manage to not deal with it by overeating. It'll just make you feel worse in the long run. Not that I haven't done it, but I regretted it. Cassie, I hope you can get some good sleep soon! April, maybe live-in GD's car will bring her and and her younger sister closer together. They're as different as night and day, so it was nice to see them share that first drive today. :) Kudos on your fresh veggies--laden with vitamins, low calorie, and they can add such variety to our menu. :) I never did catch up with last week's thread. I haven't forgotten--just have been so busy with the end of the school year stuff. If anyone asked me a question or said something to which you expected a reply, please bring it to my attention and I'll reply ASAP. Thanks for your understanding. :) I misspoke before. I said my LDL (bad cholesterol) and high triglycerides have come down quite a bit through diet and fish oil capsules, but not enough, so doc are attempting further reduction without meds. I neglected to credit my exercise which also helps bring them down. |
For today:
1.) Workout x3 2.) Under 1500 calories/day: 1352 3.) Drink 64 oz. of water/day: 96 oz. 4.) Start studying for candidacy exam in August: a little |

Drink water, drink water, drink water. Yes 4. Exercise 6 hours. 60 min 5. Log everything; update goals daily. Yes 6. Nice job slacker! After seeing your water numbers I'm going to have to take down another bottle. I'll be editing mine when I do. As you see I added that other goal (#4) that we talked about. Great job so far, keep it up!!
I'll try and think of something I'm grateful for later. Right now I'm trying to beat the rain :( |

Wow! Lots going on here after I went to bed! (Am I the only morning person??? :D) Another beautiful day, weather-wise, so I'm waiting for my coffee to finish brewing and then I'm off for another hike.
Excited to be back and concentrating on my health. It feels so good; I hate when that aspect of my life feels out of control. Enjoy your day, everyone! Catch up with you all later! quinn p.s. Mike, I don't know what's up with me and color... lol. I update everything during the day on notepad and then when I copy and paste it to fitday at the end of the day, the color doesn't transfer, so I bag it. But, your right... I have to add some fun back into my daily "stuff"! lol I have neon blue Nikes... does that count??? :D |
Cate, I was in a hurry yesterday and neglected to congratulate you on the marvelous job you've done bringing down your blood sugar. Kudos on being pro-active with changing your lifestyle to low carb.
Hectic morning already! 10 year old GD told me an hour before school  she needed me to help her build about a two foot tall log cabin as a prop for a play she is presenting today. All she brought with her was construction paper "and we need it to stand up," she said.  I'm not artistic at all but learned when my kids were young to save stuff that could be useful later for school projects. Lo and behold I found behind my desk a stiff, fake, cardboard type woodgrain pattern backing I had decided to not use on a cheap utility cart a few years ago. We fashioned a log cabin out of it and the strongest stuff I had to hold it together was duct tape, but I told her log cabins are supposed to be rustic so no one would care. :p She thought the woodgrain was cool, so she was quite happy with it. LOL I just hope it held together as her little brother carried it from the car to her classroom. Very light eating day yesterday due to so much running around I had to do. Food was skimpy on protein and I need it to be almost double what I ate yesterday.
