1 pound per week = 50 lbs in a Year! Join me!
Hi Everyone!
After a few failed attempts to stick to my plan, I'm back on the wagon to lose 50 pounds this year. Is there anyone out there that has a similar goal? I'd love to share this journey with others. I am a 45 year old mom that has gained and loss weight over and over my entire life. Usually I have lost it quickly only to gain it back almost just as fast. So, this time my goal is to lose 50lbs at a slow and sustainable rate: a pound a week. That's only a 500 calorie deficit. I also want to make small life style improvements that will stick both with food and exercise. You can see my weight goals and progress in my signature below. It sounds like a great plan! I want to lose weight slowly too, just because it is so much easier to keep it off. I have 40 lbs to lose, but I wouldn't mind losing 50 :) I'm in! |
Hellz yeah, I'll join you! My plan is to lose around 45 lbs. I always get crazy gung-ho, then get really sick, then gain all the weight back. I'm getting tired of my own excuses and am looking forward to learning how to relax and just let the process happen.

I have never kept any weight off that I lost fast. :( My base calories burn for a day is 2600 so it's not a huge sacrifice eating at a 500 calorie deficit a day. I'm trying to make "baby steps" lifestyle changes. Here are the two that I'm working on right now: 1) Ride my spin bike 30 mins a day. 2) balance my "pie" at 40% carbs, 30% fats, 30% protein How bout you gals? Any goals you would like to share? Right now I'm mostly focusing on:
-Drinking 3L of water per day -Trying to eat around 20% fat, 40% carbs, and 40% protein (I'm a carbo-holic so I tots struggle with this!) Once I get these two down I'm going to work on adding more things in, like sleeping 8 hours a night or quitting soda. What're you ladies' favorite exercises/workouts? |
I am trying for 1800 - 2000 cals a day and working out at least 3 times a week. Right now I am mostly trying to track what I eat and do so I know what goals are best to set for next week.
I would love to get more sleep! :) |
My base activity calories without excercise are (according to fitday) 2600 so I'm also trying to keep the my intake around 2000 per day.
For exercise, 30 mins a day on the spin bike at a heart rate level of 65-75%. 20-30 mins every other day weight training. My goal for next week is to start having a more intense cardio workout on the spin bike every other day where my heart rate level reaches 85%. I own 12 Spinerval DVD's which I used to use religiously so I want to get back on those again. I'm looking forward to more pleasant weather so I can walk too. The stationary bike is nice but it's great to get outside and use different muscles. Carolyn |
i like your idea of takign it slow, thts how i've been trying to work on my weight loss.
if i was to lose about 50lbs i would be around 160 for the end of the year. i feel that it might be pushing it for me to lose that much. but it's more real than trying to lose it in 6 months (like x-weighted said i should do). i'd like to join you girls :3 i'm a 21 year old college student and i do my weighins on fridays |

How did everyone survive the weekend?! I know that I took a cheat day Friday... and then again on Sunday because I was super excited for my sweetheart to be home!
I tend to weigh in on Mondays in order to keep me accountable during my cheat day(s) though this Monday was not the best since my uterus decided that it wanted to exfoliate. My promise to myself is that I will not weigh in during "Spa Week" but I'll be checking in on the forum! Oh! Girly tip of the week: While that Belly Band idea may be a hoax about the fat burning, it works fabulously as an abdominal warmer that you can wear in public and never worry about it getting cold! |
I always got impatient if I wasn't losing big but and gave up after a few weeks so I decided to change strategy and so I started this new diet in Jan with a goal of 1 lb per week. I don't want to change my lifestyle drastically because I'm not a very unhealthy eater. I just need to be more active and try to even out my calories over the week. I enjoy a drink at weekends and catching up with friends and I don't want to give all that up. I needed to lose 44 lbs approx, now it's 39 lbs, so far so good.
Fit day is helping and I try to post every day as well. Every week takes me closer to my goal |
I am all in for losing the weight, at least half of it, this year! I am down 3 lbs in 2 weeks and feeling very good about it. I have cancer and can't move around a lot, apparently I burn about 1,900 cal a day so I am eating 1500 which is manageable.
I am getting a kick out of logging my food, which I make from scratch. Do we all weigh in on the same day? I only weigh in 2x a month but I measure myself every week. When I get a really good scale I will be in every week I think. Great to meet you all! meggietye |

I find it hard to find time to eat meat or exercise around my class schedule and rowing practice! If you don't mind me asking, what is your major? I find that those that are in the hard sciences tend to be much more matter of fact with their calories and exercise while us soft science kids are more laid back. I'm a psych & pre-med major, with a minor in bio. I'm finding that Monday weigh ins may be discouraging sometimes, but all the discouragement is worth it whenever that "bad number" goes down due to hard work! |

Some days are just harder to find time than others, like today where I go from having class at 8AM until the end of my club meetings around 9 or 10. Wednesdays are the worst! I always tell myself that I'll workout later in the day, right after class, but I always get too wrapped up in taking care of the girlfriend to go to the gym. At least I have crew practice, right?
I'm willing to change my weigh in day if it would aid in the coherence of the group. |

i feel better this morning. i followed the one tip and that was to not turn on my computer when i wake up. by doing that it was easier to focus and get my workout done, do alittle metitation and take a shower and still have plenty of time to eat some breakfast. i think i just gotta keep up this way no matter what i need to get done just get up and focus on nothing else but workout.

Ready to try again
Like you all I have tried for 13 years to loose that weight that just appeared after I turned 40. My best bet has always been low carb. I had the best success with SouthBeach, but I didn't stick with it. I want to loose 25 pounds, but more importantly stay healthy and keep cholesterol levels low. One pound a week sounds pretty doable. I with you. :)

I second Skeetgirl's stance about the no pressure approach. We all know that we're going to post our stats anyway, so why worry so much about when and where?

I weight myself on thursdays because I can even out my weekend blips over the first three days of the week! Well that was working until last week, but I had a particularly social 4 day weekend and haven't managed to catch up yet, in fact have gone back up by 1/2 lb. Got to be especially good for the next two days to get back on track.
Started on 6 Jan 11.......... 174 lbs. At. 5' 2" Weight now........169.5 Mini goal..........165. By Mar 5 Ultimate Goal....... 130 by end of year |
well today was my weigh-in day.
i gained 0.66 lbs i'm alittle dissapointed in myself but that just means i gotta get back on track with my food. i had tacos last night, not that it was really bad snice i had it loaded with lettuce and onion. but i had 3 which i should of kept it to 2 like i first planed. hopefully i'll lose a pound over the next week |

hi all, just thought i would pop in say hi, ive the guts of 120pounds to lose over the next 2 years or so. My big goal this year is to loose a pound a week until the 6th of june when my aunt is 50 so there will be a big family party then.
Ive a dairy intolerence so my diet is fairly restrictive, tho on the plus side it means no more ready meals or pizzas and chocolate my big weaknesses Ill try and pop in each day if i can |

hey guys an update from me.
i'm going to start drinking 3 of my water bottles a day which is about 3 cups of water it can hold. and i'm going to cut back on how much i eat by a few servings. following the food guide is good for mantining your weight or starting to cut back, but at the point i'm at now i feel like i'm eating WAY too much with keeping up with the right amount of servings. so i'm going to cut back on my grains by 1-2, fruits and veggies i'll keep to 7 servings but won't try to fill the servings with juice if i'm lacking 1-2. i'm fine with my milk of 2 servings, and for my meat i got to stay at my 2 (i tend to go over by one alot) yesterday i didn't eat all my servings but drank alot of water so i wasn't hungry all day. and this morning i had a good breakfast abit bigger than usual snice a bigger breakfast is better than a bigger supper. also my computer is down for the count so i can't check back as often for awhile snice i'm using my school computers. see you guys later |

was hoping to get out for a walk but its been raining all day here. going to weigh myself tomorrow in work to see how im doing, wont be in work for 10 days after tomorrow so have 10 days to improve on tomorrows weight:o |
Good Start
I am enjoying the food and activity logs. It really makes me think about what I am eating more so than any other weight loss tool I have used and it is free unlike Weight Watchers. I have already lost a pound and I feel great. I think I can keep up with this.

Hi, I would love to do this with you ... though I do not need to lose 50 pounds, I need to learn to be patient and be happy losing one pound a week. I am so haphazard with my eating and would like to have to check in to keep me inline. I would love to keep in touch through fitday to do this.

I've found that being able to keep snacks on my and to create a "meal plan" in the morning allows me to regulate everything and keep my calories on track! I'd love to hear how everyone is doing! |
