7-Day Motivational Thread, 11/16/10

Since most of us need to start strong as we head into the holiday eat-fest season....

This week for the benefit of my health and welfare I vow to:

1. Keep calories to 1,500 (I know I always start with that one and fail miserably at it, but I feel a renewed sense of purpose this morning, so HAH and a HY-YAH!)
2. Exercise for a total of 7 hours.
3. Keep carbs to 47% or less.
4. Take a load of stuff to Goodwill.
5. Drink 96 oz of water every day.
6. Make my Christmas shopping list and scope out BF deals
7. Call and sign-up for the Turkey Trot.
8. Get the elliptical fixed.
9. Attempt the pumpkin/yogurt pie.

cubbyprincess 11-15-2010 12:37 AM

Hey guys!
I am down 1.5 pounds in a week, from 130 starting- to 128.5 I stuck to my calorie intake of 1200 a day for six of the day, but one day went as much as 2500, due to a social drinking event! hehe:D pretty happy about this. Anyways here are my weekly goals
1. Eat 1200 Calories M-F
2. More school work action and less proscastinating
3. Be more positive in words, actions and thoughts
4. Meditate more
5. Go to the gym 3-4 times in 5 days
6. Do not DRINK when I go away this weekend with the SO (oo this is going to be a hard one)

Happy Monday Everyone! ;)

canary52 11-15-2010 12:52 AM

I kinda gave up last week. I have chronic health problems and the past 2-3 months have been reallly bad, terrible, in fact. I keep trying different meds, got so desperate I am now on one that may cause weight gain and hair loss (yippee! my two favorite things!) But I am determined to get both healthy and fit so here goes:

I will take a page from both Almeeker and Cubbyprincess if they don't mind:
1) keep to (or below) 1500-1600 calories
2) meditate more (it really helps)
3) go to the gym or take a walk at least 3-4x
4) drink more water (I have to, with these meds)
5) keep positive- do not take myself so personally
6) take these clothes I have been driving around for two months and actually drop them at Good Will
7) do good work (and keep in touch)
8) be compassionate to others, including and especially to the ones I find challenging
9) get some new clothes so I stop looking like my own grandma

Congrats on the weight loss, Cubby! I'm gonna try for that too!!!

gmantych 11-15-2010 01:05 AM

Good morning all! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I am so tired this morning and really dont know why. I did manage to keep the calories in check this weekend and get my workouts in.:D

I am down another 2.4 lbs. I am very excited about this but since I started a little over 7 weeks ago, I haven't had any big weight loss weeks. It has been consistently 1.5-2lbs per week. (I know this is the average) But alot of people loose several pounds their first few weeks. Because of this I am wondering if maybe I should cut out most of my carbs. I also have a lot of belly fat. My waist is around 42" right now. If I do cut out more carbs what would be a healthy breakfast. Because now I am accustomed to eating thin bagels or english muffins.

Here are my current goals for the week:

1. Calories-1500-1600
(Fitday calculates my intake at 1712?)
2. 128 oz of water
3. 1 hour workout
4. Clean my laundry room!!

rubypeanut 11-15-2010 01:34 AM

Good job, cubby re pounds! I have binged (didn't even count, probably over 3000!) the past 3 days and am up 3 pounds since Thurs; hopefully water/food weight.

Goals:

- No sweets/treats except on Friday for girls' night out at Fondue place
- Run Mon, Wed, Thurs, Sat to train for Turkey trot (hard b/c I'll be running in the dark at 8 PM every night after everyone goes to bed!).

Hey Guys

Last week I was MIA because I was having some minor issues at home and couldn't deal with the whole weight loss thing too. I don't know if anyone here has ever had an anxiety attack but I had the first one of my life and it was horrible, I woke up a week ago friday with a wierd pain on the the side of my right breast. I was like WTF is that? I did the whole breast exam which I do every month but let me tell you it is way different when you are actually think something may be wrong, man are those things lumpy. So of course I am poking and proding and brusing myself to no end trying to figure out if there is something wrong. Well I think I had actually just pulled a muscle, but some how I got it in my head that there was something really wrong with me and I couldn't shake the feeling, I was having heart palpitations and cold sweats all those fun things. Because of all this I was super tense so I ended up pulling ( or making worse my already pulled) chest muscles, shoulder muscles and back muscles. Of course at the time I didn't know that was what had happened so that just made me more worried to the point that by Tuesday I could hardly function. ( if you knew me you would know how crazy this is, I am a super rational person normally). I finally went and saw the doctor on Tuesday afternoon and he told me that I was perfectly fine, there was nothing wrong with my breasts, heart lungs etc.. So I finally calmed down, it was almost instantaneous after him telling me but I was left with these awful pulled muscles from all my worrying so I took the rest of the week off to recover. There for this week my goals are going to be quite simple:

1) stay with in my recommended calories ( about 1400)
2) exercise gently 5 nights this week
3) start my Christmas shopping
4) drink 100 oz of water!

Thanks for letting me spill guys

Andrea

2.) Keep calories to 1800
3.) Sleep?

Hunny24 11-15-2010 02:28 AM

Well I am with you Canary...had a terrible last week. I keep doing this to myself...will be great for a few weeks and then one week will be horrible. But its all about starting over and continuing on again right? So that's what I will be doing this week.

Finished my 10k Sat in the pouring rain we had here. Averaged 9.38 per mile and finished in under an hour. So met that goal at least!

Goals for this week:

Stick to my daily menu I created - Keeping me under 1300, in order to get back on track
Run outside 2x a week, Gym, 3x a week and one day of Plyo
Eat healthy while in Vegas next week...the alcohol is going to kill me there but I am going to try really hard anyways.

Glad to have you back with us Andrea. I am sorry you had such a rough week! I have never had an "anxiety attack" but I do have anxiety. I get over anxious about alot of issues. I take Zoloft on a regular basis and have Xanax for the really bad times! So I really do feel your pain. Just ease yourself back into your routine. We are here if you need to talk!!

Great job on the 10k, esp in the cold rain!!!

Dang, didn't even make it a week!

I don't know if I'm glad or sad that I'm not the only one who couldn't stick to it this week. I probably should have waited until today to try to start. Between the PMS and the three day long migraine last week, I was a mess. All should be well now for 3 weeks. Until the next go round with the monthlies.

Anyway, I logged my weight every day, but not my foods. I didn't do any workouts, but I also didn't miss a day of work despite the fire inside my head. I'm a CNA, so I'm on my feet for 7-8 hours, so that helps a little.

Goals again this week:

Log food intake every day.
Log weight every day.
Log 3 hours of exercise this week.

Good luck to all this week. It will be better than the last one was.

Back after 6 months

Hi everyone!

Well, I spent six months way, waaaaayy off the bandwagon putting on weight and now really, really need to get back to a reasonable weight. FitDay was so helpful for me when I kept up with it; I decided I need to again!

I know there was trouble because none of my clothes have fit for a while now, but when I stepped on the scale and saw the largest number I've ever seen in my life (including at any point in any of my 3 pregnancies...):mad:

So here I am. Goals?

1) log my food intake here (and thereby pay some attention to what I eat!)
2) drink only water and tea
3) stay AWAY from carbs altogether, except some brown rice
4) stay within about 1300 cal for the next couple of weeks
5) be a little bit accountable by checking back in here with you gals

Have a good week, everyone!

Margaret

current weight: 74 kg

I CAN DO THIS!!!:D

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

This week for the benefit of my health and welfare I vow to:

1. Keep calories to 1,500. 1,479,1,922 But then I got sick so I don't really know what I actually kept down.
2. Exercise for a total of 7 hours. 1 hr 45 min, 55 min, 1 hr 5 min (3:45 total)
3. Keep carbs to 47% or less. 52%, 56%

Looks like I'm not doing very well on my goals this week. Yesterday I was doing really well on calories, but ended up going over budget by a piece of leftover garlic bread and a small bag of popcorn. But then I got sick in the middle of the night, and actually have a loss on the scale this morning. Things are looking better this morning, I woke up before the alarm clock went off and got my workout in and have kept breakfast down as well.

Hunny24 11-16-2010 11:38 PM

Goals for this week:

Stick to my daily menu I created - Keeping me under 1300, in order to get back on track - YES, around 1100
Run outside 2x a week, Gym, 3x a week and one day of Plyo - Off day last night but will be working out tonight and everyday until Sat then Vegas on Sunday!
Eat healthy while in Vegas next week...the alcohol is going to kill me there but I am going to try really hard anyways

Well down another pound and a half of water weight, getting me closer to the 144 I was a few weeks ago. Will be running outside tonight if it doesn't rain. Otherwise I will hit the gym. Feeling really good about things and have all my food made today so it will be easy to keep within my caloric range. Happy Hump Day everyone!

gmantych 11-17-2010 12:41 AM

Report for Tuesday:

1. Calories-1500-1600-NO, Yes 1572

I did much better yesterday on my calories but I didnt get in my second 30 minutes. DD cheers for JV Basketball at School and the first game was last night so I didnt get home until 8. We then still had dinner, bath, and homework so no time for me. I guess I could have walked after the kids were in bed but I wanted to go to bed too, 5 am comes really early!

ahhh I really love your goals! good luck in meeting them this week.;)

canary52 11-17-2010 06:04 AM

Thank you Cubby. I like your goals too; ours seem kinda similar. Great minds think as one as my mother in law used to say.

Ruby, don't beat youself up over the chocolate pretzels. It sounds like you have a lot to deal with. I hope your neck feels better and the stress level goes down. For the neck, have you tried heat, acupuncture, massage? There are also some simple exercises like turning your head slowly however far in every direction (to one side, then the other, drop you head to chest and lift back up slowly and drop to your back.) These help me but the trick is to do them SLOWLY. And of course, I'm not a doctor. These are only suggestions!

I'm going to the acupuncturist today for my neck and back and general pain. I know it's expensive and not even covered by insurance (at least mine isn't) but it really helps. And hey I don't really need that great Cole Haan shoulder bag I saw in a consignment shop. At least I wouldn't have to lose weight to look good wearing it though!!!

rubypeanut 11-17-2010 07:05 AM

Thanks for all your encouragement!! I have the thermacare heat wraps, ibuprofin patches, muscle rub, rice sock, and oral ibuprofen. I feel much better today than yesterday!

rubypeanut 11-17-2010 02:25 PM

Well, my neck is better.
Still exhausted and today at the end of work I just hid in a closet and started crying and crying from stress and misery! Oh well, soon it will be Thanksgiving. I don't know how people who work full time manage to cook and host Thanksgiving dinner (we always go to our friends house, stay at home mom). I could never go shopping and cook and prep next Wed after work!

gmantych 11-17-2010 11:53 PM

Report for yesterday:

1. Calories-1500-1600-NO, Yes 1572,
(Fitday calculates my intake at 1712?)
2. 128 oz of water-Yes-Yes-NO
3. 1 hour workout-Yes, No 30 min, 30
4. Clean my laundry room!!-Not yet, No, No

Ugh not a great week. My scale isn' being nice to me this week! It keeps going up! I haven't gotten all of my workouts in. I really think I need to drop my calories or something! I just dont know how I can eat 1200 calories and not be starving all the time. It just seems so low.

Yesteray I had to leave work early cause my 4 year old DS is now sick with the stomach bug. Fever and vomiting. So I am just patiently waiting for it to hit me. DH is home with him today. I was really hoping that this was going to be a good week but oh well.

I am glad your neck is feeling better, but I hate you are so stressed right now. We usually go to my sisters for Thanksgiving and DH wants to stay at home this year. So I guess I am stuck doing the cooking. I am 35 and have never had to cook Thanksgiving Dinner. How lucky for me;) But I only have Thanksgiving Day off this year so I have no idea how I am going to get everything prepared! It may be a small dinner. Which is fine, it will only be my immediate family!

jml2010 11-18-2010 12:14 AM

Hi Glenda!
Thanks for the welcome. It's hard not to beat myself up over my huge lack of self-control, so it's good to see some positive attitudes!

So far, so good:

1) log my food intake here (and thereby pay some attention to what I eat!) Yup, working so far

Ruby I'm so sorry you had such a rough day, hopefully things will be better soon.

Canary, sorry to hear that you're in pain again. I am too, and my DH is so grouchy that I don't want to mention it to him either. Maybe we'll both get a really good night's rest and be better in the morning, I'm going to cross my fingers for both of us.

gmantych, I'm doing a small T-day dinner too, just the 5 of us plus my SIL. I'm going to keep it simple and somewhat healthy. I've put each of the kids in charge of a dish, which should make it sort of fun while we're in the kitchen together.

My stomach is much better, and I've done very well calorie-wise today and it's been one temptation after another all day long. I've been very much in control, which is completely out of character for me around the holidays. I even walked away from cheese cake after I had taken a bite of it and decided since it wasn't the best cheesecake I'd ever eaten, it just flat out wasn't worth the calories. And that is sooooo not like me. I also went grocery shopping since my local store is doubling coupons up to $1, and I passed up one frozen dessert after another and they all would have been less than $2. Again not like me.
