Good Morning everyone.

I would too love to hear about the chair exercises! I sit on my big rear all day and get sooo bored sometimes that all I think about is food! Maybe a few exercises during the day would help with that.

I didn't do very good yesterday. I took the day off of work because my DD had her braces put on yesterday. So after the appointment the Dr. said go get a good lunch, whatever she wants because she will start hurting in a few hours. Guess what she wanted, chinese buffet. I love that place and you know I just felt I had to eat to support her! LOL

I did a little better last night but I am back on the wagon this morning. I think previously that has been a huge problem for me. Have one bad day led to many other bad days instead of just forgiving myself and starting again the next day! I think I still may be in for a couple of lbs lost this week.

Ok I need to get some work done since I wasn't here yesterday.

I've thought about weighing myself once a week, but I'm not sure that would be a good idea for me. I'm too optimistic by nature, and I would spend the whole time saying "breakfast and lunch were okay, so I can have a little treat now". Then at the end of the week I would be like "Holy cow, who put that fat girl on my scales?". Once a month is completely out of the question, although I applaud those that can do that.

I soooo hate the eating out issue too. I've gotten caught up in that time and time again, eating waaaayyy more calories that I would have avoided if I'd only known. I CAN'T WAIT for that portion of the O'Bama health plan to take affect. Some of the local places around here are starting to come into compliance, but most haven't bothered yet. I wonder if there will be any monitoring and enforcement of the new laws, or if it will be left to the honor system. I've been finding all sorts of errors in the caloric lists on the internet, so I have the distinct feeling that restaurants will be sugar coating the worst of it, at least until they get busted.

I was hoping for some “inspirational words” this morning, but nothing is really coming. Just MUSINGS of a sort on dealing with changes.

I have been working with my counselor on being more “habitual” and having routines because I don’t. I don’t brush my teeth, wash my face or put my contacts in in the same order each day. So, I’m trying to do that to learn that some habits are worth doing the same way all the time.

But what I am learning is that while I may want to have routines, the thing I most need to do is re-learn how to manage things like my eating, exercise and self-care when the routine is thrown off.

Perfect example . . .my husband and I were supposed to have an investor in town and either staying with us or at least visiting today and tomorrow. My house has NOT had a good “spring cleaning” in too long. Losing my Mom, and having to care for my Dad this year so much has put things like that on the back burner.

But knowing this person would be coming, I went at it. (One thing I realized is that, by doing more routine cleaning, that my “spring cleaning” is less intense, so YAY.) And I am still in the midst of it somewhat. But after moving all the furniture around so the carpet cleaners could get in and spending a day sick from the overwhelming fumes (don’t know what they used this time, but it gave me a horrid headache), the investor changed his plans.

What? Huh? Not coming? ARRGHHHH!! You mean I did all of this major overhaul for NOTHING. Grrr. I’m going to EAT a bag of fast food carb porn to feel better now!!!!! Argghh!!!!!

Okay, put on the brrrrraaaaaakkkeeeeeeesssss!!!

Eat something? To feel better because my plans got changed? Boy is that he mentality that has gotten me back to fat again.

But that was my FIRST thought. A thought I caught in time before it became a major binge. What I did instead was (having planned on picking up rotisserie chicken dinner while hubby came over to help with house last night, so having thawed nothing and can’t by rotisserie chick for just self because I will eat it ALL and don’t need the skin and dark meat he would eat “for me” ;-) .) stopped by Publix on the way home, picked up shrimp and some pita, came home and made a huge shrimp salad and took a well-needed UNPLANNED “veg out” break that I was NOT allowed to feel guilty about. I ate shrimp salad and pita in front of the TV and caught up on all my guilty viewing pleasures knowing that this was UN-regimented, UN-planned truly SPARE time and I could use it to RELAX mindlessly. Then, I went to bed at a reasonable hour – another luxury I rarely give myself. And I slept like a baby.

And I guess my musings from all this are:
(1) SOMETIMES an unplanned major schedule change can be a blessing
(2) Whether it is or isn’t, you have to cope with it in ways other than shoveling down carb porn.
(3) You always have to HAVE a plan, and a backup plan for when plans go awry and a willingness to let go of all of it if you need to
(4) Life will never be completely controllable and that’s okay
(5) Food is fuel and nourishment and yes, even enjoyment, but it is not a solution for unexpected stress

So yesterday was pretty good. I went a bit overboard on the pita chips I used to scoop up my shrimp salad, but I was WAYYYY under cals on Tuesday, so it all balanced out.

Hope you ladies are well. Will check back later for “personals”. Must go call Copenhagen client before it’s too late in the biz day.

Take care!
Ang

I just googled it and came up with a million hits, I watched (and did) a 5 minute one on How To Do Things How To Articles & How To Videos, it was a little silly, but completely do-able at the office, especially if you have walls or partitions.

A promise . . .recipe

This is from "cooking light" off the myrecipes.com website. I used the "pork butt" roast which I trimmed the heck out of!!! But I will use a different cut next time. This time, after cooking this for more like 10 hours (my roast was 1.5 times the original recommendation size -- i actually have four dual servings portions still in the freezer -- YAY!), there was a LOT of fat at the top. I simply put the pot in the fridge, let the fat congeal, and skimmed it off. But i think a lean pork roast would work better and save that step (allowing me to eat it right away).

I have to tell you that I was licking the bowl on this marinade it was so tasty!!!! And, as always, I used twice the garlic, but I LOOOOVE garlic.

I also didn't add the chick broth at the end-- For me, it didn't need it, the cooking gave me a nice thick barbecue and I didn't want it saucier. I rolled this up in iceberg lettuce and topped with shredded carrots and sweet onion for a "lettuce wrap" of sorts and it was soooooo tasty. Also served it with brown rice and frozen asian veggies for a well-rounded full meal.

FROM MYRECIPES.COM
Slow Cooker Char Siu Pork

In this recipe for Char Siu, the Chinese version of barbecue, the pork is cooked in the slow cooker for an extra tender, juicy, and stress-free meal. Serve with sticky or long-grain white rice and a steamed or stir-fried medley of bell peppers, carrots, snow peas, sliced baby corn, and water chestnuts.

Yield: 8 servings (serving size: 3 ounces pork and 1/4 cup sauce)

Ingredients
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons bottled minced garlic
2 teaspoons grated peeled fresh ginger
1 teaspoon dark sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
2 pounds boneless Boston butt pork roast, trimmed
1/2 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
Preparation
Combine first 8 ingredients in a small bowl, stirring well with a whisk. Place in a large zip-top plastic bag. Add pork to bag; seal. Marinate in refrigerator at least 2 hours, turning occasionally.

Place pork and marinade in an electric slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.

Remove pork from slow cooker using a slotted spoon; place on a cutting board or work surface. Cover with aluminum foil; keep warm.

Add broth to sauce in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 30 minutes or until sauce thickens. Shred pork with 2 forks; serve with sauce.

On some TV station ( and I dont believe it is on cable because I dont have cable/satelite etc and I have seen it.. there is a program called Sit and be Fit So look in your TV guides and find it.. and if you work, record it to use over and over again.

I am not doing well on my journey so I will post more when I have something positive to say

Have a great day!

Awww Pam, I felt sad when I read that. I did want to share with you my reaction (along with feeling empathy for you) to that... I thought, "Well, damn, she's lost 60 pounds, so I think she's doing awesome." I hope you can feel and think that soon, too, because you are, even if you've had a little space of time where you feel like you should or could be doing better.

Thanks!

It isnt that I could be doing better, its kinda out of my control at the moment. I am still watching what I eat and exercising at much as I can but for medical reasons, I had to stop the gym until my back/disk heals and I also had to stop water pills for a while and my water weight is shooting right back up. And I am not talking a lb or 2.. my water weight can easily get into the 20lb range, so I just feel like all I have done was for nothing. I will just hope and pray my medical stuff stabilizes and I can resume my routine.

Thanks for sharing!

Default Chair exercises, and then some!

Right, so I did end up researching chair exercises last night, just because I could. And I found a few that were okay, but hard for me to do in a wheelie chair. Thanks for the links though, folks. I will be researching a bit more.

What I did do today were some chair stretches. I did a few forearm stretches in the morning, beings that I type all day long; this really helped. Then I did some calf stretches twice during the day. I felt like this helped the most, because I didn't feel any stiffness at all when I would get up during the day. :-)

Oh, and, I feel really weird about saying this, but I'm totally down 12 pounds in 15 days. I don't want people to think that I am starving myself or anything, because I most definitely am not; I feel like I eat all day long! I don't know what the heck is going on, but I sort of like it and am sort of scared of it. Maybe it's happening like this because I have so much to lose? I have no idea! Any thoughts?
