Under 400--yippee!

Ha ha--it's a bit ironic to be happy about weighing 393 pounds I suppose, but after six weeks of 1500 cal days (which I find is a pretty comfortable limit) I can now weigh on my 400 lb. limit scale. Goal number one is to hit 299 by 09/05, which is four months since starting my new eating plan on 05/05. I'll need to lose 5.7 lbs a week which is high, but I think doable.

For any of you in a similar situation, remember that we only need to lose one pound which is easy. Then repeat it 200 times. :D

efduncan 06-19-2010 03:47 AM

That's great and it sounds like you have you mind set for success. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. We're pulling for you.

mecompco 06-26-2010 12:41 AM

Weigh-in for the week--388.5 so down 4.5 lbs for the week. :)

tandoorichicken 06-26-2010 07:04 AM

Congratulations! You seem determined so I know you'll get there. :)

01gt4.6 06-30-2010 12:00 PM

Cap'n, thanks for asking. Yes, have been doing pretty well--keeping close on average to my cal limit. I only weigh in once a week on Saturday morning and I plan to update this thread weekly with my progress.

Have been trying to get more exercise--I'm abusing our Wii Fit board (330 lb. limit) but it seems to be holding up so far--ha ha--it is a good low impact workout.

Regards,
Michael

CapnCrunch00 07-02-2010 09:04 PM

good deal

good to hear you getting in the exercise very important to transition and my nephew got the wii hadn't seen pad yet if you at limit then I would destroy it but I know it is a workout much different from video games of my day sittin on but playing madden 95 lol

keep up the good work though and keep me updated on the lose you are a motivation to me to keep going

mecompco 07-02-2010 11:37 PM

Weekly weigh-in this morning--384.5, so another four pounds down :) I went over my 1500 a couple times this week so that's not bad (including too much steak last night (11oz !) and a couple of beers .

Hope you all have a safe and fun 4th!

Michael

waynegretzky 07-03-2010 01:16 PM

Great week Michael! Keep it up buddy you will get there it just takes time now.

mecompco 07-09-2010 11:30 PM

Weekly weigh-in. Only one pound down this week, but that's not unexpected. Ate out a couple of times (one an all-you-can-eat buffet ) but tried to be as healthy as possible. Also, drank way too much beer, which is not good. So, taking it in stride, I will do better this week. Stay healthy everyone!

kaboom66 07-10-2010 10:57 AM

Hey, well, I had a whole long missive typed out and the forum crashed

I'll just say that I'm finding 1500 very comfortable if I choose my food wisely. This isn't my first time at the weight loss rodeo, but is probably the first time I am committed to doing it in a healthy and sane manner. :D

mecompco 07-16-2010 11:14 PM

That time again--this weeks weigh-in shows 380 lbs. even--down 3.5 lbs. for the week :-) It should have been 4.5 lbs. but I've been pretty consistantly going 50 to 100 cals over my 1500 limit this week. I know when I get back to work and a consistant structured schedule it will be easier--having the summer off is like having 10 weeks of weekends!

Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Regards,
Michael

mecompco 07-25-2010 04:47 PM

375.5 this week, so another 4.5 down which is better than I expected, though I did get some excersise in (and have the pain to prove it ;-).

tandoorichicken 07-26-2010 05:09 AM

Great work, Michael, you're keeping a pretty good clip going forward!

mecompco 07-30-2010 11:14 PM

5.5 down this week! Looks like the exercise off-set the beer (which I'm trying to avoid--the beer, that is ;-)

So, today's weight is 370 exactly :D

mecompco 08-07-2010 12:38 AM

Another 5.5 lbs down this week, so 364.5 lbs.--amazing considering the 8 pack of Guinness and a trip to the Mexican restaurant I did last weekend. I have been more active, so that helps and drinking lots of water due to the heat--perhaps I'm sweating the weight off?!

efduncan 08-07-2010 01:08 AM

Your doing great! A trip to the mexican restarunt halps me sometimes as long as you understand to hit the groung runninng tomorrow.

Ha ha--it WAS pretty tasty, but I ate too much and had to make a WAG as to the calories--it was lunch and I only had a couple pieces of fruit for dinner that day.

I really try to avoid eating out, but sometimes you have to and at least try to make a healthier choice. In retrospect, I should have boxed up half the giant plate of food immediatly as I know I have a tendency to clean my plate, hungry or not.

mecompco 08-13-2010 11:11 PM

This week's weigh-in: 362.0
Only down 2.5 lbs. this week, but that's OK--this is a marathon, not a sprint!
Have a great week everyone.

Anjorni 08-16-2010 05:58 AM

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

Major props - keep up the great work. If I could do what you're doing at 1/2 the pace I'd be blowing by my goal in no-time!

Hang in there man, as long as the needle points to a figure = or < your previous weigh in, then you're doing fine.

So what are you doing in terms of workouts? Cardio only? Lifting? both? at the same time?

Keeep it up!

I am rather embarrased to admit that I am not currently engaging in any particular exercise :o

Now that I can walk more than a few steps w/o gasping for breath and can go up and down stairs I AM being much more active. I know I'll have to start really exercising at some point. At my weight I still have to be careful of my ankles, knees and back, all of which bother me (though not so much, as of late).

Of course I have a nice weight bench and weights as well as a treadmill and other equipment gathering dust.

mecompco 08-21-2010 12:07 AM

Yeehaw! Down 6 lbs. this week--356 even this morning. Have a great, healthy week all!

350.5 today, so another 5.5 lbs down :D

350 is my first mini goal, so just about there.

Then, on to 299 for January 1st!

Good Saturday morning, everyone!

A good week, back pain notwithstanding.

347.0 this morning, so another 3.5 lbs down and first mini-goal met.

So the question is, can I lose 47 lbs. by January 1? Without some form of exercise, it's questionable at my current rate as I know my body will burn less and less as the weight peels off. If I can get my back to cooperate I'll try to incorporate at least a modest walking routine.

Stay healthy!

travbrad 09-17-2010 09:36 AM

Great job on the weight loss, keep it up :)

I know what you mean about the being happy with being under 400 thing though. I had the same experience recently at 300 pounds. Seeing that 2 on the beginning of the scale was great, and I told myself it would never start with a 3 again :)

I am still dropping pounds pretty quickly even under 300lbs (about 3 a week), and I've barely been doing any exercise. Everyone is different of course so your mileage my vary. 47 may be a tad optimistic, but certainly not undo-able. Remember your body will still thank you even if you come up a few pounds short. :)

changeisgood29 09-17-2010 10:02 AM

I realize I'm in the "Men's Only" section (and I am not qualified to post here :P), but I wanted to send you all my encouragement and congrats - what you're doing is so great. It's so cool to see your results. Thanks for the inspiration. ;)

mecompco 09-17-2010 11:22 PM

Travbrad--thanks for the encouragement, and congrats on leaving the "3s" behind (can't wait until I can do the same!) And no, I won't be heartbroken if I don't quite do to it by 01/01/11 (but I really think I can).

Changeisgood29--thank you, also--I'll take compliments from anyone, male or female, and please do feel free to visit from time to time--we are all fighting for a common goal here.

On to the Saturday morning weigh-in:

A nice 4.0 lb. loss this week! :D

So, 347.0 - 4.0 = 343 lbs. today

43 left to go for 01/01/11

I am making a conscience effort to "move more" and now that I can walk more than a hundred feet or so w/o stopping to gasp for breath (I'll admit that was getting scary) I'm doing it more and more.

almeeker 09-18-2010 01:59 PM

You're doing GREAT!!! Just keep it up and you'll blast through that next goal. Which Wii games are you using?

Thanks! Not so great this week--stayed the same. I seem to do that every few weeks--I plan on seeing results next week. I did go over my calories a few times, so that may have something to do with it.

I have started walking during my lunch time during the week--10 minutes of brisk walking including up two stairs and down two others. I plan to work up to doing my circuit twice as my back and ankle allow.

As to the Wii, we have WiiFit Plus. I like the bicycling--some of the games will be easier at a lighter weight. Soon I won't have to "trick" the Wii platform due to it's weight limit.

Sunday update: Must have been retaining water (beer) yesterday. Weighed in this morning at 339.0--so, out of the "40's)! Still right on track for my 299 goal by New Years.

mecompco 10-02-2010 12:49 AM

Did pretty well calorie-wise this week and did my 10 minute walk every day.

Scale says 337.0 this morning, so 2lbs. down.

We are going to a pot luck this evening and there will be excessive drinking of beer. I'll have a high protien breakfast and skip lunch to help keep cals within reason.

My goal now is to hit 299 by 01/01/11 which is another 10% of body weight. To paraphrase the weird pony-tailed exercise infomercial guy on TV (who owns a vacation home not too far from here in Maine) "I CAN DO IT!"

mecompco 11-06-2010 02:01 AM

Well, haven't updated this thread for about a month, so here goes.

Down 15lbs. since my last update--a cool 322lbs. this morning. Had a bit of a plateau (only losing 1-2 lbs a week) so had to make some changes. Have increased my exercise to walking a full mile in 20 minutes at lunch time and getting more serious about the Wii Fit on the weekends (it's great not to have to "fool" it now that I'm under the 330 lbs. weight limit.

I'm also trying to cut down on fat and up the protien, though not always successful. I've also cut the consumption of beer to once a month and I'm sure that's helping.

I'll update this again in December, so have a great month all of you who graciously read this (and I appreciate all who do and lend their support).

Regards,
Michael

Thanks for the update - and congrat's on your progress. You've come a long way, and should be very proud.

Ooops - just noticed this is the thread for just men. Caught me "lurking"!

Ha ha--thanks for the comments! As far as I'm concerned, you're welcome to visit the "Men's" forum anytime (I confess I check out that "other" forum from time to time myself). We are, afterall, all working towards a common goal.

Michael

mecompco 12-27-2010 09:54 AM

Under 300 :-)

Yup, 12/25/10 299.5 pounds. So, officially under 300 pounds. Granted it took me seven months instead of the four months I was originally shooting for but I think that is fine.

For anyone who might be reading this, let me tell you that 300 is much better than 400. I can't begin to explain how much better I feel and can function.

What's next? Get under 200, of course :D

I plan to be there by this time next year. We'll see!

Regards,
Michael

Ha ha--not too many recent "befores" as I was (understandably, perhaps) rather camera shy. I do have plenty of "durings" (as it will still be quite a while before I consider myself "after").

I plan to post some on my one-year anniversary, which is May 4th.

Regards,
Michael

You are doing a incredible job Michael!!! I'm sure you're proud of the hard work your doing and already receiving the benefits of your effort.
