Compliments
We will all be getting them so let me hear some of yours? Today a friend said she was not sure whether it was the tan or a new hair style but I looked great. Earlier in the week one of my fellow lawyers (while waiting in court) said "you look fantastic". Needless to say they made me feel fantastic and motivated.

Congrats on your success! Well a couple weeks ago my dad said it looks like I'm losing weight and my husband said the same thing so that made me feel really good, but now I'm kicking it into full gear making sure I work out everyday or at least 5 days a week and no cheating on calorie counting! (keeping between 1200-1500). I cant wait to see the results and look forward to getting more compliments. - Renee

The compliments help. I think losing weight encourages us to take more care of our appearance as well. Mary
|
Congratulations, Mary and Renee! The compliments definitely help us all feel motivated to do more, do better, keep having those affirming words said to us.
I just posted this in another thread, so I'm just gonna copy and paste: Yesterday, when I was having a flat tyre replaced, I was standing at my car, waiting, and the guys in the workshop were taking little side-long glances at me. Of course, I pretended to be all cool and collected, like it's an everyday thing, but I haven't been given a side-long glance from a strange guy in so long. The guy who brought the tyre out to put in my boot kind of tripped over himself saying 'thankyou' to me (I don't know why he was thanking me). I told my partner last night and he just gave me a huge, knowing grin. Boosted ego? You betcha! |
when I get a compliment it's usually about how young I look. The most flattering comment was that I look like Greek God, but I think that she needed her eyes checked. Maybe she meant that I looked like a member of the geek squad, but I don't work for Best Buy.

usually how young I look as well....I'll take all Compliments..makes me feel good!

One of the best things about losing weight and getting in shape is that I can leave the house in a dirty ratty ponytail, no make-up, cheese wiz and maybe a little marker smeared on my face, wearing bunny slippers and pajama pants and people still tell me that I look great. Just kidding, my slippers don't actually have bunnies on them . Another nice compliment I get frequently is that when I confess my real age (which I don't always do), I get that "jaw-dropped-open-shocked-into-complete-silence" look. Got one of those yesterday in fact.

I once had a young cashier tell me after looking at my drivers licence. "Wow, I hope I look like you when I get as old as you are!"
I took it as she meant it, but she then proceeded to apologise profusely noting that 50 really wasn't all that old. |

When I first started to lose a lot of weight, it was more like "Oh my God, What is wrong with you?, are you sick? Do you have Cancer?" ya, whatever.... The latest was "Dude, you look like a Rockstar!" It's all good as long as random women keep smiling & waving to me:D |

Almeeker, I think I'd look funny with hair now. I'm so use to being bald. :D |
It was my Mother in Law who gave me the compliment that made me feel good yesterday. Not so much spoken as shown, since she doesn't speak English. She pointed at me, made a signal with her hands showing them spread far apart to represent 'Big' then moved them closer together to show 'Smaller'. It was her way of saying I got smaller. Made me feel good. ^_^

I'm 65 and often told I look much younger. Guys sometimes comment that my husband must be very happy and that they wish their wives would work out! And younger people at my gym (nearly everyone is younger) tell me I inspire them. These things keep me going and remind me that there IS a fountain of youth: exercise and healthy eating habits over time. I've been working out since my late 30's.

A guy at the gym said to me a week or so ago - "I'm married and I know that you are married, so it's OK that I tell you that your shoulders are looking AWESOME!" I guess he didn't want me to think he might be a bit flirtatious! Made me feel great to know that someone other than me was noticing my hard work. :)

I had an old friend and professional colleague sidle up to me and say: Pam, I'm a happily married man, but you are looking great! :p |

I haven't gotten any outside of home comments yet but I will say that while we have always been very active in the 'bedroom' dept, I notice my hubby looking at me more often and when I sit near him he always has his hands on my lower back or rubbing me lately. :D

Last Friday night, March 11th, my birthday, age 59. I had driven 35 miles to go and meet up and sing with my friends who play in a classic rock/blues band. As I entered the pub I was squeezing past people sitting at tables and excusing myself as I brushed by. An attractive mid-30s lady asked me if I was "Mike". I told her "No, but if you stick around for the next couple of hours you will see me up onstage behind a mike." She smiled and said to me, "I wish you were Mike."
I found out later that she was on a blind date and waiting for some dude named Mike to show up.......He never did....His loss...My gain...I made a nice new friend named Kristine, sang my lungs out onstage, ate too much birthday cake and I totally maxed out my fun-o-meter.....and it all began with her nice compliment to me. :) ------------------------ |

I'm living in a small town right now, where pretty much everyone knows me and I do my best to stay in touch with as many people as possible. That being said every so often I run into someone I haven't seen in awhile. Just the other day I ran into a girl who had moved to Tokyo last summer to do modeling. While catching up, she mentioned that her parents (who I'm also friends with) mentioned to her the last time they talked that I had become much more handsome since she left, to which she told me she definitely agreed. I had never heard this from her parents or her, so it definitely made my day.
One of my favorites though, was from a coworker. She was describing my transformation to me, and in the process of telling me how great I looked now she told me that before I looked like Santa Claus. This was probably due to the fact that I dress up as Santa every December and it happened to be around that time of year, but I thought it was hilarious none the less. |
Today I ran into someone whom I had not seen for a while. Her Comment " Who is this skinny woman" Since the scales tells me I am still obese it felt good and she followed it up by telling me I was looking good.
How many of you are finding you are taking more care of your appearance since you started on this journey? Mary |
Actually, I have found myself getting much more into fashion since getting into shape. Now that I'm no longer trying to hide my body but show it off, I find myself looking through fashion magazines, keeping up with trends, reading articles on how to work the most with what I got, etc.
I actually find I enjoy going out shopping now. Just this last weekend I went out and bought about $200 worth of jeans and shirts, as most of the stuff I have right now is too loose. I actually am thinking about going out this weekend as well, as I want to pick up a few more casual shirts. Maybe when a person starts getting compliments about their appearance, it makes them want to look as good as possible, which in turn brings about more compliments resulting in even more effort to look good? I certainly feel that's the case for me, as I've gone from a big shirts hanging down almost to my knees, shorts which are clearly not shorts kind of guy, to a custom tailored suit, stylish shoes kind of guy. Of course, it could just be me finally becoming an adult  |
Zaldabus! So glad you've made a comeback. I was getting worried there for a while. :D Sounds like you were unaffected by Japan's disasters, and I'm sincerely pleased.

I got quite a few compliments yesterday - it was extra-special to me, as I was wearing a top I hadn't really looked good in for over a year. It's fresh and fun, purple polka dots and such, and I always feel very much MYSELF in it, or I had, anyway. It's still just a SMIDGE tight, but if I stand straight, it looks better.
Anyway, a lot of people said "nice top!" yesterday, or "You look great!" or even just random comments - one of the people in my lab looked at me and said "You look like you slept!" Which, I hadn't, but I think I just looked really happy-faced yesterday. I had also done my makeup and hair differently, maybe that had something to do with it. I haven't had fun with clothing my whole life, but I can see the appeal. I'm still roly-poly, but anything that's inspiring is a good thing! |

I am betting that as the pounds peel away you will find yourself more and more interested in fashion - or at least in what looks stylish on you. Part of that is just maturing into a fully fledge professional. It is hard to be and feel fashionable on a grad student stipend and working 20 hours in a lab. But mostly you will start having fun trying on new styles and and the dressing rooms won't be the torture chambers they once were. Keep it up girl! Pam |

I got called 'hot stuff' by a man who is twenty years my junior and was also called 'gorgeous' by a random postman.
I felt like saying, 'who, me?' :D |
I had a mini makeover a couple of weeks ago and I was apologising to the girl that she had got me instead of my slim and pretty friend to work on, she looked straight at me and said that I had the most beautiful eyes and good skin and I was to stop putting myself down immediately. She made me feel better about myself and I realised that I didn't make the effort because I felt I couldn't compete so why bother, but now I'm trying a little harder to always look my best.

I wore a set of scrubs to work the other day that I hadn't fit into for a while. All day long the surgical residents, and even one attending MD from another department, kept saying I looked pretty and asking me if I had done something different with myself.
|
A co-worker said the other day to me "Every day I see you, and every day you look skinnier! It's kind of crazy!"
I had to laugh, because at the time I was actually UP two pounds due to some stubborn water/sodium weight, but it felt good to hear nonetheless! |
I had a good day yesterday with several people commenting on my appearance. One directly about my weight loss, one admiring my suit -- which is 5 years old and I am just getting back into; and one about my tan and looking good. Felt good. I also noticed that I look "thinner" in the mirror. A strange sensation. Mary

One of the teacher's up at the elementary school has taken to calling me "Skinny Mom", which he shouts at the top of his lungs across parking lots and such. Another one of the teacher's calls me "The Incredible Shrinking Woman". It's really sort of funny because both of them are quite a bit thinner than I am.
Another really nice compliment that I've been getting lately is that some of my friends are now on the healthy track and losing weight, and when I tell them how great they look, they say that I was their inspiration. I don't think it gets much better than that. |
I was doing my daily lunch time jog (previously my lunch time walk) the other day and this old fellow was out raking his lawn. He said "you're doing great--I've watched you all winter". Kinda funny--I've walked five days a week since September in sun, rain, snow, ice, below 0 cold, you name it and never knew I was being watched. :D
Regards, Michael |

I got a compliment today.
So I was getting on the ladder to clean the gutters. To be safe, I asked my 9 year old son to come outside. I said, Michael, can you come out here for a bit? I'm going up on the ladder and I need you here because I'm scared." So he said to me," It's ok Mommy. You're less fat. You can do it." To me, this is hilarious. Because he is DEAD SERIOUS. He's awesome. Everbest, Carly |
