A friend of mine was arrested at the airport and now he is waiting for an extradition hearing. How long can they keep him in jail while they decide? Is it weeks or months? What can we do to get him out on bail in the meantime?

Extradition is notoriously slow. It can take anywhere from a few months to a couple of years if it is fought in court. It depends on the country and the complexity of the charges. You should check https://extraditionlawyers.net/ for info on how to speed things up or apply for bail. Bail in extradition cases is hard but possible if you can prove he is not a flight risk. You need a very strong local lawyer and a strategy to challenge the request itself. The court will look at the treaty and the evidence provided by the requesting country. It is a long road, so tell your friend to be patient and make sure he has the right team behind him. The sooner you start the defense, the better.
