Guys, I need some advice. Thinking of getting a smoke machine for our workshop. We’re getting a lot of cars with vacuum leaks, EVAP issues and rough idle, and doing it with brake cleaner is not great anymore. Found a small smoke tester that works with regular mineral oil. Anyone here using one daily? Is a compact unit strong enough, or should I look for something bigger?

We use a small one in our shop and honestly it handles most jobs just fine. It puts out enough smoke for intake leaks, loose hoses, EVAP problems and even small exhaust leaks. For everyday diagnostics you really don’t need anything bigger. The only thing to remember is to let it warm up properly before you start—once it’s heated, the smoke is thick and steady, and you can trace leaks without any trouble.

A smoke tester is really worth having in a workshop, and the compact models are usually more than enough for daily leak checks. They heat up fast, put out steady smoke and make it much easier to find intake leaks, hose cracks or EVAP issues without wasting time on guesswork. For anyone comparing different options, ECUTools has several small smoke machines that fit well into routine diagnostics https://ecutools.eu/ Their units are simple to use, don’t take much space, and work reliably as long as you let them warm up properly. For a regular garage or service shop, a compact smoke tester is often the most practical choice.
