Matching your VPS server’s physical location to where your users are is quite important — it can reduce latency, speed up page loads, improve user experience, lower bounce rates, and even help SEO. If your audience is in the U.S., hosting a server there rather than far away in another continent can shave off tens or hundreds of milliseconds per request. If you want a reliable provider with global VPS options that allow selecting server locations near your audience, you might check out here. That said, there are mitigating factors: strong network infrastructure, good routing, and use of CDNs all help reduce the disadvantage of distance. Even if your server is a little far, a good CDN setup can deliver much of the content from nodes closer to the user, smoothing out speed issues.

Lately I’ve noticed that hosting closer to my main traffic region really does help. Pages load faster and the connection feels smoother. Even with a CDN, physical proximity seems to matter for interactive apps.
