Default Can diet tracking help with IBS flare-ups

I’ve been diagnosed with IBS and trying to figure out what triggers flare-ups, but it’s all over the place. Some days even “safe” foods upset me. I’ve been told tracking food and symptoms can help, but it feels overwhelming. Where do I even start? Anyone here doing that?

Yes, tracking helped me so much. I also have IBS and for years I couldn’t understand why some days were fine and others a nightmare. I started logging what I eat, how I feel after, and things like sleep or stress. Patterns started showing up after a few weeks. Even things like snacking too late triggered me.

That gives me hope. I think my stress plays a role too. Do you do this in a journal or use some kind of template? I don’t want it to become too time-consuming.

I totally get that – it can feel like a lot at first. What worked for me was using an app called Happy Gut Dairy. It simplifies the whole process. You can quickly log your meals, stress levels, physical activity, and digestive symptoms each day, and it saves all your entries in one place. There’s a visual calendar to spot flare-up patterns, and it generates a PDF report that you can bring to your doctor. I showed mine during a follow-up and it really helped guide the treatment plan. Plus, there’s a section with helpful articles and updates from their team. The layout is clean, and it doesn’t feel like a chore. You can learn more about it here: https://happygut.eu/happy-gut-diary#happy-gut. It helped me go from total confusion to actually seeing what affects me.
