Default How to learn English if I hardly learned it at school?

We had very basic English at school, but now we need it for work and traveling. Where to start learning if the level is almost zero? What methods have helped you?

To be honest, I have the same problem. They taught it in school, but nothing was memorized. Now I'm watching YouTube videos, but I feel that it's not enough. Maybe there are some courses or websites where you can get better?

I totally understand your situation! Many people studied English in school but never really learned how to use it in real life. The good news is that it’s never too late to start, and with the right approach, you can improve quickly—even from zero.

Watching YouTube videos is a great start because it helps you get used to the sound of the language, but passive learning alone isn’t enough. The key is to combine listening, speaking, reading, and writing. One of the best ways to do this is by using structured online courses that provide clear lessons, exercises, and speaking practice.

I highly recommend checking out go-for-english.com . It’s an amazing platform that helps beginners build a solid foundation in English step by step. What I like most is that it’s designed for people who didn’t have a strong English education in school. The lessons are interactive, engaging, and focus on real-life communication—so you can start using English for work and travel right away. Plus, there are options to practice with teachers, which is super important for improving speaking skills.

Start with apps like Duolingo or Babbel for basic vocabulary and grammar. Watch movies with subtitles, listen to podcasts, and practice speaking daily. Language exchange apps like HelloTalk can also help!

I was in the same boat - hardly learned English in school and felt completely lost when I needed it for work. What really helped me was taking esl online classes, which gave me structure and real conversation practice. Unlike just watching videos, the online lessons pushed me to speak and actually use what I learned. I also started journaling in English daily - even if it was just a few sentences - to build my confidence. It takes time, but once you get over the fear of making mistakes, things will go much faster.

How do you remember English if you don't use it every day? I've been studying for six months now, but I'm afraid that without practice I'll forget everything. How do you maintain your level if you don't communicate with native speakers?

You can practice your English at any convenient time just by using english learning app. I have been using this app for about a year now. It has a new feature - communication with AI. It's so much fun! I just give the AI a topic, and we communicate with it. If I make mistakes, AI points them out to me and tells me how to say them correctly. It helps me a lot in memorizing new idioms or words. I highly recommend trying it!

I was in the same situation—very basic English and suddenly needed it for work. I started with simple apps, daily listening, and short conversations. While studying in MP, mp taas really helped me continue education without money stress, which gave me time and confidence to slowly improve my English step by step.
