Default Newbie, and I'll be 39 Wednesday.

The goals are:
-Lose 25-30 lbs of junk
-put an end to smoking
-have fun again
And in return I want to
-for once go to the beach and not feel self concious
-train with our 3 K9's and not run out of breath in a few minutes.
-fit comfortable in my jean
-have fun again

So far found this web site and I've already started, got my workout routine ready, and haven't had a cig since yesterday at 3:30pm.
Thanks to this web site for making it so much easier to watch my weight/intake/activities.

Good for you on the quitting smoking!!! I quit smoking last summer (Chantix really helped!) and feel amazing. Sounds like you have some goals, and a way to implement them... that's an excellent start. Good Luck!

And Happy Birthday!

I can vouch for it being possible to quit smoking without gaining weight. I quit on May 3, 1998, cold turkey. My weight did not increase until well after that year.

To deal with cravings, I chose a series of things I could do and not smoke at the same time. I would pick one every time I had a craving.
  • Walk 6 miles at an easy pace
  • Brisk walk 1 mile
  • Jog to the corner and back
  • Sleep
  • Read the Bible
Sometimes I did have to resort to food, so I would make up a salad every morning with finger sized chunks, too small for a fork. I am allergic to dressings and dips, so I was accustomed to eating naked salad.

I also went to a quit smoking forum and put a counter in my signature. Every bit of encouragement helps.

Expect lung issues, but I can tell you in hindsight that it is not worth giving up. The health gained is incredible.

Default quit smoking cold turkey

YES cold turkey! My motivation came from youtube. Many videos on why to quit and this one scared me out of it no problem.
