More sunny days! Winter is really over.

I'm donating blood tomorrow at the local blood drive, after which they serve us a meal. This particular drive sponsor never has trouble finding donors because the meal is so much better than the usual cheez-its, gummy bears, and juice you get after giving blood. I am so looking forward to that because the meal includes fries!

I give double-reds (two units at a time, also called 'power reds') so that I can spread my donations out more. I'll be eating fish today, and not IFing tomorrow, because I want to be all powered-up to donate. Despite having a mainly-vegetarian diet, I have yet to fail the hemoglobin check they do at the blood drive, even without taking an iron supplement. So, vegetarian, even vegan, is not too risky, but I'm having more animal protein today and tomorrow, and plenty of water!

This is a real treat!

The double-reds donation process takes longer because they run your blood through a machine and return your platelets to your body. Once upon a time, I worked the night shift in a blood bank, typing and cross-matching blood for patients. I remember calling blood banks all over the city for blood we needed right NOW and having to make many calls until one could send a little bag of blood by taxi to my little lab in the middle of the night. So, I know how much blood matters - when you must have it, you must have it!

When I discussed my diet with my doctor (who said don't worry about protein!), I told him I don't think I am anemic because I give blood regularly and I've always passed the screening process. I told him I have a donation appointment coming up and he automatically said, 'Thank you for your service...' Say what? I'm not taking a bullet! (And if I did, I would need that blood.)

Enjoyed the respite from Intermittent Fasting, and enjoyed meat and fish! Now, back to my veggie life.
