Motivational Thread - Nov 3-9 Fall into Healthy Lifestyle
INTAKE
For me it is all about recording the intake. I haven't been doing that lately. I have tried, but then fall off the wagon my dinner. The main things is that for blood sugar purposes, I need a healthy snack before bed. That is great if I look at my intake for the day and I see that I have room. FIRST GOAL - record all foods, even after work OUTPUT Exercise. I had vowed to walk to work every day, but the rain really has been a deterrent. I am getting a decent upper body work out with the nature of the job. In fact given my condition, I wouldn't add to it. Besides my home weights are pretty wimpy compared to what I'm lifting on the farm. SECOND GOAL - walk to and from work at least three days TEMPTATION Cook and eat what is easy. I then don't get my vegetables in and suffer with rash or hives. THIRD GOAL - cook healthy dinners every day this week |
Good morning! I'm in, I need to be. I'll be setting goals for me and my Wonder Twin, Tori.
Me: 1) Lose 3 pounds 2) Drink 3L water per day 3) Be mindful of what I eat 4) Eat at least 3 fruits/veggies per day 5) Walk 3 miles Tori: 1) Lose 1 pound 2) Take TBM for 5 walks 3) 60 oz of water per day |
Hi Mike, glad to see you.
|
Goals:
1) Get back to walking. The weather has been crazy here and I've used it as an excuse to slack on that. Need to shrug that off and get back to walking 3-5 days a week. 2) Record everything I eat. I pretty good about that but some times I miss it. 3) Keep my daily calories as close to 1700 as possible. This is the bottom of my range but I need to stay close to it. Especially as we get closer to the holidays. |
This weekend was COLD in the Deep South so I had to pull out some winter stuff. I pulled out an old favorite sweater and it fit! Comfortably, too! Size: 24W--that's a lot smaller than the 5X women's clothes I wore last winter that were stretched to the max! In fact, it's one size smaller than my 26 yr old daughter wears! Yeah me!
Now, I've got to fix a birthday dinner, cake included, for my grandson this weekend. An old habit of mine is to eat when I'm cooking, so I think I might invest in some pretty duct tape to cover my mouth and solve that problem! Vicki |

I took two of my dogs for a mile walk, went to the gym to workout and did a short .40 on the dreadmill. 1.40 for the day.
|
Mike: I'm in southern Louisiana (Baton Rouge). Vicki
|
I decided that I don't need to bring the snow tires out at least until Nov 17. We are having unseasonably warm weather here. Problem is that its pouring down rain. The ground is saturated.
I want to walk to work, but once I get there I wouldn't be able to get past the puddle that is the parking area. The boots are just not good for walking. At work, I lifted 5 to 10 pounds in each hand, 30 to forty times. Then I lifted 40 to 50 pound trays and carried them about 20 feet. At least I got a good upper body workout. I cooked chicken, rye biscuits, carrots, and broccoli for dinner. One slip up today at the farm. I ate a Wagon Wheel. Only one, so I expect the only damage it did was to my blood sugar level. |

Christy, we should see who can put in the most miles. I sure could use a push since Mern isn't here with her whip.

Hello All, To those who don't know me, I'm Quinn. I'm an active 52 y/o empty nester who lost nearly 30 lbs. a few years back. I've been really successful at keeping it off, too... until recently! About 9 lbs. have drifted back over the past 4-5 months. Too many poor food choices, too little exercise and spending too much time in my kitchen cooking and baking. So here I am, accepting that this is a lifelong choice. Right when you think you have it all figured out, the weight creeps back. Looking forward to meeting all of the new faces! Quinn |
I saw on the previous thread that some were using daily goals instead of weekly. For someone like me who is trying to climb back on the wagon, baby steps might be the best way to go. So for Wednesday:
1. Adhere to calorie limit 2. Walk, if rain holds off. 3. Drink, drink, drink! 4. Daily weigh-in. 5. No bread or cheese. 6. Eat only 1 ingredient foods... an apple, not an apple pie. :) |
Hi Quinn, I was the one who instigated the daily goals. I was having some trouble committing to a whole week. I still am.
I did the best I could yesterday, but I felt bloated. I am thinking it might be the water. No really. I have a water softener, which I add salt to. Then for drinking water, I have reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis quit working just before I started working. I can't call for repairs until I know I can be home during the day. 6 more days of work. I'm boiling the tap water but I'm sure that doesn't remove the salt that I'm putting in. That's my convoluted story, anyway, and I'm sticking to it. |

This is where you melt. Here's my boy. Wait for it, wait for it.... http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps06cd05ef.jpg BAM! He's the best little fella ever. He's a looker. Hearts melt like butter on a tin roof, in the hot southern sun! We drove all the way to Texas to rescue him. |

I see you're from Canada. Nice to see someone actually north of me for a change! lol Now I'm watching the weather for snow tire dates. I don't want them on too soon, but not too late either. Driving to the farm again. I will just have to settle for upper body, on the job, strength training. |
Aww... What a cutie! He would make a great walking partner!
|
I'll start upping it up but will probably have to go with the two chirrens. Avery, my handsome little boy could probably handle a couple miles but I think beyond that, his little legs would struggle. I guess we'll see, he may want to go wide open and wear me out.
Soooo.... I'll do a 5 mile walk next week for you quinniepoo. |
Just one question... Does he take batteries, or do you have to wind him up? :D

Mike: Your puppy pic did truly make my heart go pitter-patter! How old is he and is he part chihuahua? I love little chihuahuas! I have a 2 y/o girl named Rosabella.
I try to avoid fast food as much as possible, but yesterday and today it just wasn't to be. Yesterday I had the oven roasted chicken wings from Little Ceasar's and today I had the Bacon Ranch salad with grilled chicken and no dressing from McD's. Some days we just have to roll with what life sends our way and make the best choice of those choices available to us. After all, tomorrow is another day! Vicki |

I had to laugh at your weekend birthday problem as I have a "cake problem" this weekend, too. A good friend of mine is a pastry chef and has asked me to come to an open house Friday night where he will be featuring many of his cakes (my weakness). I'm pretty much obligated to go and if I do, I know he will be hurt if I don't sample each one. That's always been a problem of mine as many of my closest friends are chefs and can be easily offended if you don't eat their food heartily. lol Your duct tape idea sounds like a plan! :) |
Well, my first day back has been interesting. I did well, but I forgot how quickly things get unexpectedly sidetracked. My son stopped by after work to set up a new router for me and before I knew it, as we talked and laughed, we polished off a bottle of wine with dinner... oops. Even still, I think I stayed within limits. Wine is fat-free, right?? lol
1. Adhere to calorie limit. close 2. Walk, if rain holds off. yep 3. Drink, drink, drink! (no comment, haha) 4. Daily weigh-in. yes 5. No bread or cheese. none 6. Eat only 1 ingredient foods... an apple, not an apple pie. food choices were good |
My day is almost over. I ache all over. Driving that little tractor in the mud is a little like bull riding. Especially with the loose seat that keeps trying to throw me from the saddle.
|
I'm back after a long absence--like since September. Never gave up entirely, but did myself no favors by going off the wagon. My goals the rest of this week are to eat on track and drink more water. I will pledge 5 minutes exercise and see if I can exceed that.
Mike, thanks for the shout out. :) Quinn, welcome back! |
I'm sick!
At least I woke up early this morning with stuffed sinuses. I went back to sleep and woke up again with a sore throat and a headache. Now I look outside and there is wind and rain. I have to work out there today. |
Annette, so sorry you're sick. A lot of people near me are sick, too, with sinus and stomach ailments. Feel better soon!
Mike, the pup is ADORABLE! Today's on-track menu: Breakfast: CarbMaster dairy blend (fake yogurt) mixed with flaxmeal Lunch: zero cholesterol omelet with broccoli and 1/3 light sundried tomato Flatout bread spread with Laughing Cow Queso Fresco Chipotle cream cheese Snack: protein shake Dinner: low net effective carb Dreamfields Penne Pasta with pork tenderloin and some of the pork cooking broth, broccoli slaw with ranch dressing, cooked broccoli or spinach Evening snack: flaxmeal muffin spread with peanut butter and maybe a couple strawberries on the side |
OK, I did five minutes of very brisk aerobic walking in the house. May not sound like much, but I'm horribly out of shape and was huffing and puffing by the end. So I raised my body temp and heart rate. I'll try to do it again this evening as another baby step toward getting back to 30 minutes of aerobic walking, 5 days a week.
My crockpot pork tenderloin is filling the house with such a wonderful aroma. Y'all should be jealous. LOL |

Went for a long walk this morning in 33 degree weather with some pretty stiff winds. But, I bundled up and by the end I actually enjoyed it. Time to figure out a healthy supper which is going to be a trick since tomorrow is my big shopping day. Can I come over for pork tenderloin?? :D |
Quinn, you sure are a trooper taking a walk in such frigid temps and wind! Hats off to you on that! :) Sure, drive on down--I've got about 5-6 ounces pork tenderloin left over. LOL Oh, wow, it was soooo good.
|
Mern, I woke to an inch of snow on the ground this morning, which was an improvement over the 3" that had been forecast. Dug out my down jacket that makes me look like the Michelin Man, ski gloves and hat, ipod and hikers and headed out. Low of 27 tonight. =( Scale is on a downward trajectory so I better not complain. lol Tomorrow, I may head out to my hiking trail in the woods for one last hike before the deer hunters start shooting.
|
Mern, it was a false alarm. I left my window open overnight and it is fall. The neighbour has a nut tree in his yard, just under my bedroom window. So I was having an allergic reaction.
Tonight I either leave my window closed or take Benadryl to sleep. I also had to laugh at your "Hat's off" comment to Quinn. It was so windy here today that my hat blew off in the wind. |
Quinn, I am so NOT ready for snow and cold. Michelin Man--LOL. Your scale is on a downward trajectory because you work so hard at getting it to do that. A friend of mine lives in a semi-rural community. Last year with his crossbow he shot a deer in his backyard from the comfort of his family room. Enjoy your walks before the hunters start shooting!
Annette, wow--I just noticed that you lowered your BMI by 3.7. Congratulations on great results from your efforts! Glad you're not getting sick, but those allergies can make one totally miserable. My worst winter allergy is to wood smoke from people burning wood to heat their homes. It gives me an instant headache and instant sinus congestion. I put on a painters' mask when approaching a couple houses while driving my grandson to school. Wishing you a good night sleep tonight however you can get it. Couldn't help but chuckle over your hat blowing off in the wind, either. :) I did well yesterday on my restart. I even managed to not eat the chocolate caramels I found in the kitchen cabinet. Today's planned menu: Breakfast: zero cholesterol spinach omelet Snack: protein shake Lunch: ham and Queso Fresco Chipotle cream cheese on half a slice of sundried tomato flatbread and a side of low carb sweet and sour cucumbers Dinner: baked boneless, skinless chicken breast, plain low carb pasta cooked in salted water (I actually love that--it's not a sacrifice), sauteed cabbage Snack: cucumbers spread with soy nut butter, flaxmeal muffin |
