Motivational Thread April 7 - April 13

You can only fail if you quit!

Good morning my fitday friends! I chose today's quote as a reminder to myself to keep forging forward. I've struggled for the past two weeks and have been feeling like a failure. I need to remind myself that the only way I will fail is if I stop trying. I may have hit a bump in the road, but I'm not a quitter so I will not fail!! Here is to a new week of reaching for our goals!

I'm going to be setting daily goals rather than weekly. I think I find it easier to take it day by day rather than to look too far ahead. So goals for today will be the same as yesterday, burn a minimum of 500 caloires, keep calories below 1200 and drink 96 oz. water.

Have an awesome day all! As Libby says, make it count! ;)

libby116 04-07-2014 01:20 AM

Good morning all. Thank you Debbie for starting us off this week. I like the quote and am determined to succeed one day at a time. Yesterday was a good day so today will be a repeat of that.
I have a suggestion to keep us focused on our goal. Think of something that you want like a hair cut or a new dress or a manicure, than set a goal weight,
it will be different for every one. My goal is to lose 10 pounds and my reward is to get my hair cut. Let's have fun with this. I want to see what you can come up with for yourselves. Make it a good day.

lildebbieg 04-07-2014 01:41 AM

Libby - Great idea to set rewards for ourselves! Last time I bought new clothes for myself was when I returned to work after having my kids....that was over 5 years ago! As I gained weight, I just squeezed into my clothes and only bought the bare necessities. Now that I've been losing weight, my clothes fit comfortably and some are even a little baggy. I would love to buy some new clothes for summer! Between now and the end of May, for every pound I lose I'm going to reward myself with $100 for a shopping spree! I hope to end up with enough money to buy a few cute outfits! I'm way off track for the Easter Challenge, so maybe this will help motivate me for another challenge of sorts. Thanks for suggesting this Libby!

Jenai - I was looking for new recipes this morning and stumbled across these. I thought of you since you have the vegetable spiralizer...may be something you might like? Mern - You may like these as well since they are lower in carbs! I think they look yummy, so I may give them a try too...but I may have to buy a mandolin or spiralizer ;)

Zoodles and Meatballs
Zucchini Noodles (Zoodles) with Lemon-Garlic Spicy Shrimp
Sauteed Julienned Summer Vegetables

jjrudd 04-07-2014 02:07 AM

Thanks Debbie for the recipes! Will have to buy some zucchini when I'm near a grocery store. A good idea Libby--will think about what my goal would be. Oh boy I think I overdid it on the yardwork yesterday--very stiff today. I might go for a walk this afternoon if I'm not too stiff.

GOALS for the week
1. Keep to carb limit
2. 4 servings of fruits and veggies
3. 6 glasses of water
Easy enough during the week but on the weekend I seem to do poorly on it.
4. Exercise 4X 30min
5. Snacking is ok as long as it's veggies or fruit

Personal goals
1. Finish raking back lawn (behind tree)
2. write

Jenn

libby116 04-07-2014 02:25 AM

I am going to try those recipes. I have a mandolin but have only used it to cut potatoes and onions for scalloped potatoes. Now I can use it to make zoodles.
Last summer my neighbour grew lots of zucchini and gave me some every week. Thank you Debbie for some new recipe ideas.

JediMindTricks 04-07-2014 08:06 AM

Debbie, great quote! I may be stumbling, but I am not going to quit. Thanks for the reminder that I'm not failing because I haven't quit. And thanks for the recipes. I'm going to go check those out.

Libby, good reward for yourself when you get to your mini goal. I'll have to think of what my next mini goal is and what I should be rewarded with.

Jenn, you've got quite a long list of goals, but I bet you will achieve most if not all of them.

As for me, week is not off to a good start. Haven't done well with my choices already today. And my daughter had an important appointment with a specialist for a 2nd opinion on a different specialist's diagnosis, and I completely forgot about it this morning. ugh I could strangle myself. We've been waiting so long for that appointment. I remembered all the way up until yesterday evening. Then I woke up brain dead and blank. Now we have to wait all the way until 5/28 to get in again. Not happy about this.

I was talking to my step dad about my cholesterol. One thing I read is that eating fish helps. But I can't stand fish. He recommended fish oil capsules because that has helped his cholesterol. I went and bought some last night. Just hope they don't give me those terrible fish burps that I've heard people complain about with some brands of fish oil. He says he's had no problems with that and this brand, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm with Debbie. I need to keep goals daily rather than weekly. A week at this point for me seems like too long of a long time. So for today I need to finish off the day with better choices and hopefully not go too far over on my calories. I need to drink more water, too.

01gt4.6 04-07-2014 08:33 AM

Good afternoon ladies. How is everyone doing? I see we are missing quite a few people this week. Where has everyone gone?

Goals:
1) drink a lot of water
2) workout 3 times
3) lose 2 pounds

libby116 04-07-2014 12:32 PM

The calories add up so quickly. I wanted a snack tonight but after supper I was already up to my limit. I need to watch my calories more closely. It has been a busy day but I did get an afternoon nap. I hope every one had a good day.

lildebbieg 04-07-2014 12:33 PM

Back to post my results for the day.

Today's goal is to drink 96 oz. water - Check!, burn a minimum of 500 calories - Check! and keep my calories under 1200 - Check!

Another strong day!.....it's only Monday though...need to keep focused all week long! ;)

Mike - Good to see you back! Seems like people come in waves here...busy one week, quiet the next. I wish the boards were busier!

Glad to read a few of you thought those recipes looked good! I haven't tried them, so I don't know for sure, but it's worth a try!

See you all tomorrow :)

lildebbieg 04-08-2014 12:47 AM

Good morning all! Setting my daily goals for the day. Today I'm aiming to burn a minimum of 700 caloires, keep calories below 1200 and drink 96 oz. water. I'm upping my calorie burn today but keepign everything else the same. I'll check back later to see what everyone has in store for the day.

Have a great day! ;)

One of my favourite snacks is air popped popcorn! I top it with a spray of olive oil, a little salt, pepper, onion powder, dill weed and grated parmesan cheese. 2 tbsp. of kernels makes a nice size snack and with the toppings, comes in at just over 100 calories! The added toppings make it so flavourful that this little snack satisfies my salty crunchy craving.

libby116 04-08-2014 01:47 AM

The popcorn sounds really good. I will try it on the week end.
Goals for the week
6 glasses of water: M-Y
exercise 3X:
3 fruits 3 veg: M-Y

JediMindTricks 04-08-2014 02:13 AM

Debbie, that's a lot of calories to burn! You're going to have one heck of a workout.

Today I need to stay somewhere in the same hemisphere as my calorie target range (1200-1400) because yesterday was light years away from that goal. I don't know what my problem is this week. I'm going to blame it on my period. I do crazy things at that time.

Last night I made a lighter dinner though. I made home made sloppy joe sauce and put in ground turkey instead of beef. Not only is the turkey healthier, but I got about a lb more for a couple bucks less than beef. Nobody noticed, and ate it up. I should have had it on a HG bread, but I figured I had already gone so far over last night that the delicious looking onion bun in front of me wouldn't make a difference. I know that's the wrong mindset.

That's my second goal for the day come to think of it. I'll change my mindset and make one good decision at a time, one after the other. And If I stumble, I'll shake off the one bad decision, not derail and make the next one a good one.

I'll check back in a little later.

Non Weight Loss Goal is to mop the kitchen floor.

simplybea 04-08-2014 05:11 AM

Hi Everyone,

It's RAINING!! Not snow! YAYY

I am so grateful I found this place! The food journal and a kitchen scale seem to be the secret! I was looking over the weight report, it is so hard to believe on Feb 28th I was 333.something and today April 8th I am 310.2 I am sooo close to being in the 2's!!

In Jan my BMI was 66.7
Today- TADA..... 58.6

I am so excited and so motivated... I got over that 10 day or so plateau and I'm just excited to keep going... I could potentially see the 1's by Christmas......... how insane is that!!!!!

libby116 04-08-2014 05:27 AM

Awesome job Bea. Keep up the enthusiasm.

JediMindTricks 04-08-2014 05:35 AM

Debbie, your popcorn does sound good. I've been thinking one of these days I'll get an air popper.

Bea, that's fantastic about what you are accomplishing? Is there a way to track where your BMI started and where it's at now? Or do you just have to write it down and remember? I never wrote down where I started, and I'd like to see how far I've come too.

simplybea 04-08-2014 05:43 AM

This link may get removed. This doesn't track it, but you can put your starting weight and height and calculate, then change the weight to current and calculate again.

It's not a competing site, so if I am breaking forum policy please let me know

Calculate Your BMI - Standard BMI Calculator

Bea

lildebbieg 04-08-2014 05:54 AM

Bea - You're progress has been astounding!!! I'm so excited for you to get into the 2's!!!

Jenai - You can see your BMI right here on Fitday! In the 'Weight' tab where you enter your current weight, you also get your current BMI number. If you simply change the weight to your starting weight, you'kll see the BMI you started at. And yes, 700 calories is a lot to burn in 1 day, but keeping my cals under 1200 and burning 500-700 cals a day I'm lucky to lose 1 lb. per week....some weeks I even have a little gain. Probably because I'm close to goal....it's getting harder?

I'll check back later :)

01gt4.6 04-08-2014 07:04 AM

Yeah Debbie, it really has slowed down.:(

Goals:
1) drink a lot of water so so
2) workout 3 times no
3) lose 2 pounds my scale is acting stupid

It's fine.:)

jjrudd 04-08-2014 07:22 AM

Leaves and yard waste is all raked up at the back. YAY!! Didn't have a watch on but I think it was about 25 min work. A lot warmer out than the 4 degrees that weather channel says it is.
Think I will hirer someone to come and tidy up the garden. I made a start but it's too much work for me.

Jenn

libby116 04-08-2014 10:04 AM

My calories were quite low today and I could probably eat 2 servings of popcorn tonight but I didn't get any exercise. I'll keep my eyes on the prize.
I need a hair cut.

Goals for the week
6 glasses of water: M-Y T-Y
exercise 3X:
3 fruits 3 veg: M-Y T-Y
lose 5 pounds: 1 gone
finish 1 project:

lildebbieg 04-08-2014 12:11 PM

Checking back in with my results from today.

Today's goal is to drink 96 oz. water - Check!, burn a minimum of 700 calories - Check!I burned close to 1000 calories!!! and keep my calories under 1200 - Check! It was close, but I stayed under 1200

Awesome comeback Libby!! I'm keeping my eye on the prize too! I need some new clothes desperately! ;)

See you all tomorrow!

JediMindTricks 04-08-2014 11:56 PM

Jenn, good job on getting those leaves raked up. That's good exercise right there.

Libby, way to make a good choice just because you came in under your calories doesn't mean you have to eat extra of something just because. Take the extra bonus of fewer calories to get closer to your mini goal.

Debbie, wow! 1000 calories burned? And meeting your other goals too? you rock, girl!

Bea and Debbie, thanks for the ways to check starting and current BMI. I didn't even think to change my weight to start and then enter back to today's weight for the current BMI. duh! lol Mine is coming down slowly, but surely.

I stayed within my calories, but it was not a nutritious day. Need to work on being more nutritious today for sure. And I forgot to mop the floor yesterday so I need to get that done. So far this week I haven't gained any, but I haven't lost any either. I hope I'm down a lb by Friday weigh in. I don't know if that's possible. But in other weeks I'm up and down in the middle of the week and still manage a loss, so we'll see.

lildebbieg 04-09-2014 12:38 AM

Good morning all! Setting my daily goals for the day. Today I'm aiming to burn a minimum of 1000 calories, keep calories below 1200 and drink 96 oz. water. I'm upping my calorie burn again today but keeping everything else the same. I've been stuck hovering around the 120's for too long! Plus with the end of the Easter Challenge fast approaching, I wan to come as close as I can to that goal. I'll need to do my final Easter weigh in a day early because I'll be out of town on the Friday, so that means I only have 8 days to kick things up a notch...or two! :p ;)

Jenai - Thanks for the vote of confidence! My workout yesterday was epic! In the morning, I did a 4 min skipping warmup, followed by my 40 minute interval workout focusing on biceps, triceps and shoulder...I ended it with another 4 minutes of skipping. In the evening, I did 60 minutes on the elliptical. It was tough....as always! So my total workout time was 1 hour and 48 minutes and I burned 981 calories. That's why today I bumped up my goal to 1000....I was so very close to that yesterday! Wish me luck! ;)

Where is everyone this week? Mern, Mary, Aimee, April, Nyda, Becca, JenniferP1, CharliesAngel and BridgetteH27? Anyone else who wants to jump in and join our little Motivational Thread, please feel free!

Have an awesome day all! Keep your eye on your goals and keep moving forward!

Hi Becca! What are you planning for a workout this evening? Also, do you take progress pics? I have this time and it's very motivating!

Thank you! Unfortunately I've gained much of it back.

jjrudd 04-10-2014 10:01 AM

Not a good day food wise :( Should've packed an apple in bag. Too hungry at lunch and poor choices. Too much coffee, not enough water.

JediMindTricks 04-10-2014 11:21 AM

Hi, everyone. Food choices so so today, but I am determined to stay within my calorie range. Problem is, the dinner I was planning tonight (taco salad with ground turkey instead of beef) would take me over. Salad should be healthy, right? lol. Not the way I make it. So I'm trying to come up with a variation that will work within my calorie goal of no more than 1400.

My protein and fiber are way down. But my water is up a little. Sat. fats are too high.

I'm so impatient for my 21 Day Fix program to get here. I've got about another 3 weeks to wait.

lildebbieg 04-10-2014 01:06 PM

Checking back in with my daily report! ;)

Today's goal is to drink 96 oz. water - Check!, burn a minimum of 700 calories - Check! I almost burned 1000 calories again!!! and keep my calories under 1200 - Check! It was close again, but I stayed under 1200

Tomorrow is weigh day! I'm hoping with all the exercise this week, that the scale is extra nice :p

libby116 04-10-2014 01:13 PM

I walked for 15 minutes outside today and then it started raining. My calories were good so I am hoping for a nice loss tomorrow.

Goals for the week
6 glasses of water: M-Y T-Y W-Y T-Y
exercise 3X: T-15 min.
3 fruits 3 veg: M-Y T-Y W-Y T-Y
lose 5 pounds: 1 gone
finish 1 project: I am working on a quilt for my Dad.

JediMindTricks 04-10-2014 01:45 PM

I didn't meet my calorie goal after all. :( I'm still hoping for a little loss for tomorrow's weigh in.
