Motivational Thread - January 20-26

“The only thing a person can ever really do is keep moving forward. Take that big leap forward without hesitation, without once looking back. Simply forget the past and forge toward the future.” ― Alyson Noel

Good Monday morning all! :)

I thought I would get us started this morning with an inspirational quote. Hope you like it and it inspires you to continue to move forward in your personal quest. I've seen a lot of great posts here in the past few weeks. People really giving it their all! I've also read posts where some have struggled, perhaps even continue to struggle. If there is one thing I've learned over the past several months is losing weight is not a easy task. If it were easy, we wouldn't be hearing about an obesity epidemic. However....I've also learned is that it's not impossible to lose weight. Each and everyone of us here has the potential to reach our goal weights. We just have to keep moving forward. If you had a bad day yesterday, leave it there in the past. Today is a new day. Treat it with respect :)

I personally had an off day yesterday. I didn't exercise and I ended up eating Chinese takeout for dinner. However, that was yesterday which I no longer have control over, but I do have control over what I do today. Today, I'll be doing a double workout....the one I had planned yesterday and the one I had planned for today. I'll also be getting in lots of water to help wash out all the excess sodium. I'll be planning dinner ahead of time so I don't end up famished with little desire to cook

Wishing you all a fantastic week! Let's make this week epic!!!

libby116 01-20-2014 02:59 AM

I did a walk, run work out, some upper body work with hand weights and will do some yoga before bed. My eating was on track as well so I had a good day. I hope to have better than a pound loss on the scale on Friday.

Weeks Goals
Calories under 1200 Y
Treadmill 3X Y
Hand weights 3X Y
Water 6 glasses Y
lose 1 pound a week
Post every day and weigh in on Friday no matter what

cjohnson728 01-20-2014 03:20 AM

Good morning, all. Thanks for the start, Debbie. Nice job holding strong last night, Libby.

Well, I once again have my power cord and am back in business. Fourth time I've done that dumb trick; you would think I would learn. I tell myself it's because I'm busy, not older and forgetful :p.

Same goals for me this week:

1. Log everything.
2. Exercise 5 days (M & W are 12-hour days at work)
3. 1300 calories.
4. Balance the pie chart for what works for me.
5. Force the fluids.
6. Check in and post daily.

Let's make it a good one!

canary52 01-20-2014 06:22 AM

Hi everyone! Thanks for the quote and the start, Debbie!
Goals:
1) stretch
2) 6 glasses water
3) eat less
4) lose 2 pounds
5) work hard

Kumochi 01-20-2014 10:20 AM

Great motivation Debbie = and so wise to get right back on track. Learning that a bad day was no an excuse to stop trying took me a few years.

A good day. And a quieter week ahead I should be able to enjoy more exercise and time for planning.

My goals:
Journal each day
Sauna and yoga daily( today was an exception - snow blowing and curling were my substitutes)
Lot of water
Calories below 1600
Y times 3 -- this is so I'll quit making excuses

eej5 01-20-2014 01:49 PM

Thanks, Debbie.

Good advice and motivation. I'm here. Wasn't perfect over the weekend, but I didn't completely blow it. And I was really active -- spent most of the day Sunday cleaning and organizing. Lots of scrubbing.

Started the week well today. It's a busy week ahead. Hopefully I can keep it up.

Goals...
Keep calories to 1500-1600
Work out M-F
Yoga M-F
Drink lots of water
Finish two big articles by Friday

cjohnson728 01-20-2014 03:56 PM

1. Log everything. Yes
2. Exercise 5 days (M & W are 12-hour days at work)
3. 1300 calories. 1286-close!
4. Balance the pie chart for what works for me. Fair
5. Force the fluids. Yes
6. Check in and post daily. Yes

lildebbieg 01-21-2014 01:59 AM

Good morning all! Checking in with day 26 of my current rotation and will be doing day 7 of the new 30 day challenge once it's posted to the site. I can't believe I'm already on day 26....I have to start planning what I'll do for my next 30 day rotation. I'm also hoping to make time for the eliptical tonight as well.....that Chinese food is still messing up my weight on the scale. I'm sure it's mostly water, but I want it off by Friday weigh day! I wish I had chose the scale like you Libby and not the Chinese takeout. Live and learn right

Have a great day all!

libby116 01-21-2014 04:52 AM

Oh Debbie. Late last night I heard the ice cream calling my name and I had a bowl full. My excuse was a hot flash. I hope that we can both get it off by Friday. lol

eej5 01-21-2014 05:03 AM

You all want my "healthy" chocolate milkshake recipe for when I have to have ice cream?

You'll need frozen bananas, so a little planning is required.

OK. I put a couple of ounces of milk in the blender. Then throw in a frozen banana, a big spoonful of peanut butter (you can skip or use an alternative like almond or sunflower seed butter). Then a small spoonful of cocoa powder and a little drizzle of agave nectar (or a little sweetener of your choice).

Then blend it up, and it's delicious.

Kathy13118 01-21-2014 06:27 AM

Yummmmm!

libby116 01-21-2014 07:23 AM

Erin, I would like to get one of those yonana machines. How do the calories compare to ice cream? It sounds yummy.

adyndravo1 01-21-2014 09:17 AM

Hi all. A day late but I am here. I had a bad weekend and an even worse Monday. I was so tired last night I had french bread and jam for super. I am a bit stiff today from 5 days in a row. The bakery job is very phyisical. I am adding a new goal this week. I am eating my lunch right now. French bread no butter or jam, lettuce a nd spinach salad with ranch dressing (Not to much though) and baked chicken (no skin). Any goals this week are

my goals
1 log every thing eat m-n
2 post every day m-n
3 drink 8 cups of water m-y
4 2 veg and 2 fruits a day. m-n
5 exercise light my back and hip are tender.

I liked the quote at the begining of the thread. Here is an other one to remember

Yesterday is History, tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present.

libby116 01-21-2014 10:43 AM

Weeks Goals
Calories under 1200 YN
Treadmill 3X YY
Hand weights 3X Y
Water 6 glasses YY
lose 1 pound a week
Post every day and weigh in on Friday no matter what

My cravings got the better of me today. I'm not feeling well and wanted comfort food.

jjrudd 01-21-2014 01:46 PM

Hi all. Stressful weekend and even worse Mon. I hate dealing with bullies and when it's a family member it makes it worse.
Goals for the week will be to eat healthy and drink water.

Jenn

lildebbieg 01-21-2014 02:13 PM

Checking back in with BodyRock Catching Fire Day 7 (new 30 day challenge) and an additional 45 minutes on the elliptical. I'm determined to get this water weight off!

What's going on....how come we're all struggling this week? Whatever the reason, I'm glad we're all in this together and it's nice to be able to come here and be honest about how we are doing without feeling judged. Tomorrow's hump day, so there's still time to turn this week around!

Off to bed...check back in with you all tomorrow :)

eej5 01-22-2014 01:27 AM

Hang in there everyone. Monday is over.

Jenn... Bullies are no good. My sister is a bully and I finally had to quit that relationship. It's hard and made me really sad during the holidays, but overall, things have been much more calm and enjoyable since.

I'm not suggesting you need to cut your bully out of your life -- but know that it can be done and may make things better.

OK... calories on my "milkshake" smoothie. The way I do it -- with almond milk and sunflower seed butter has about 255 calories for the whole thing. But my husband and I split it, so that makes a serving about 127 calories.

I use about a teaspoon of agave nectar and about a teaspoon of cocoa.

jjrudd 01-22-2014 02:59 AM

Thanks Erin. It's actually my brother. It is at the point where the relationship can't be mended. He's right and we're wrong. All over the fact that we didn't send a sympathy card to his wife on the death of her grandmother (who we had never met--she was 95). Unfortunately they have a little girl 1 1/2 and it means we will never see her.
Jenn
P.S. No emotional eating--have been working my aggression out by cleaning.

eej5 01-22-2014 03:22 AM

I'm sorry, Jenn. I went above and beyond with my sister for too long because I wanted to keep my nephew in my life. But at some point, you can't take the bad behavior. For us, the bad behavior threatened my daughter's health/life and that was it. She'll never apologize because she's never wrong in her mind.

It's probably easier for me as I live 1400 miles from her, so I didn't see them in person much anyway. Although we used to talk nearly everyday.

lildebbieg 01-22-2014 04:32 AM

Hi all :) Checking in with day 27 of my current rotation and will be doing day 8 of the new 30 day challenge and 45-60 minutes on the elliptical tonight as well. Finally starting to shed some of the excess sodium/water weight but the scale is still overall up.

Libby - How are the hot flashes today ;) Hope you're having a great day!

Jenn - I don't know the whole history with your brother, but sometimes it's worth just biting your tongue and apologizing if someone's feelings were hurt...even though that was clearly not your intention. Make sure it's worth cutting someone out of your life. I only say this because I've seen so many families where someone is no longer talking to someone....and it usually does not bring peace and harmony as you may think.....it usually causes upset throughout the rest of the family...especially for your mom and dad. Maybe it's easier to just apologize, then step back and make some distance but not completely cut him out. This way you will still get to see you niece at least at family gatherings. Again...just my opinion and clearly not my life or my call. Just wanted to speak from a different perspective.

Have a great day all!

Kumochi 01-22-2014 05:04 AM

A good day yesterday. Staying on track hoping for 2 pounds gone by Friday. With that in mind I'm off to the Y for "Joints in Motion" I haven't tried it but its done in the therapeutic pool. Warm water exercise sounds good when it's -23C outside. I meant to go yesterday however I made so many excuses not to go I actually laughed at myself - and made a deal that I had to go today no matter what.

Wondering why I brought salad for lunch in this cold weather but it tasted good.

Keep on looking after yourselves.

beccafries 01-22-2014 08:54 AM

Hi Everybody,

I'm doing good so far... worked out mon/tues...will do some cardio
tonite for sure!...

Debbie, thanks for the inspiration..u right yesterday is yesterday:D

Kumochi 01-22-2014 09:34 AM

Made it to the Y. I love exercising in the pool.

lildebbieg 01-22-2014 09:39 AM

Hi all :) Checking back in with BodyRock Catching Fire Day 8 (new 30 day challenge) and an additional 60 minutes on the elliptical! The scale is finally moving down after the Chinese food indulgence. Wow! 20 minutes on a Sunday night and it's Wednesday and I'm still trying to recover from that one poor decision. Hardly seems worth it! ....although if I'm being perfectly honest...it tasted so darned good!!!....but still not worth days of killin' it in the gym to recover!

Have a great evening all!

cjohnson728 01-22-2014 03:43 PM

Hugs to all of you with difficult relationships. It's a tough decision, but a good one, to make the choice to have some peace for yourself, so kudos for standing up for what you need.

The past two days haven't gone too well. Not as careful as I should be, and not taking the time to do what I should. It's been a stressful week. The tough times in my life always revolve around two main themes..."you made this bed, now you gotta lie in it" and "no good deed goes unpunished." Both of them are cleaning my clock these days. Tomorrow will be another day, though, to pull my head out of my butt!

adyndravo1 01-22-2014 05:30 PM

hello all
Sorry about missing yesterday. I wish all best for those with bad relationship problems with family. I look back and reaalize what great parents I had. We did no much together as a family. Trips with my mom and dad. Time spent with sisters and brothers helping each other out.One of my sisters and I share expenses and house payment. Nether of us could make it on our own. My oldest brother isi helping us by paying the electric bill for us. We all live with in about 50 miles of each other except the oldest in VIrginia.
We are still close even after our parents passed on.
I am in the boat with those who are having a bad week. I did stay with inmy calorie limit to day first time in a long time. I see light at the end of the tunnel.

my goals
1 log every thing eat m-n,t-n, w-y,
2 post every day m-n, t-y,w-y
3 drink 8 cups of water m-y,t-n
4 2 veg and 2 fruits a day. m-n,t-y,w-veggies yes friut no
5 exercise light my back and hip are tender.

lildebbieg 01-22-2014 10:28 PM

Hi all Checking in with day 28 of my current rotation and will be doing day 9 of the new 30 day challenge and maybe some time on the elliptical....I'll have to see how I'm feeling. It was a tough workout this morning after doing so much exercise yesterday....but the scale is moving down again!

I'm so sorry to hear all those that are having a tough week. We're now in the 3 week post holidays, so maybe we're moving past the excitement and commitment of new weight loss goals for the new year and now moving into the day to day challenges? Who knows, but I wish each and everyone of us the strength to do what we need to do for ourselves....not just weight loss but also personal relationships, personal struggles, etc.

lildebbieg 01-23-2014 11:10 AM

Checking back in with another 60 minutes on the elliptical......not sure who I'm checking in with....I guess the crickets :p Wow! It's quiet here today!

eej5 01-23-2014 11:45 AM

Checking in. Busy week, but it's flying by. TGIF tomorrow!

I'm do great on calories this week. Good on my high intensity work out. Not so hot on yoga. It's always what suffers in a time crunch.

I hope to see some results on the scale this week.

cjohnson728 01-23-2014 04:31 PM

Today I logged, calories were super, fluids marginal, exercise nonexistent. 12:30 AM and I just finished work for the day, so chatting on the forums and exercising took another hit. :(

I've heard for years about the "lifestyle change" concept; done it, in fact, but always had the time to do so in the past. Now making time is part of that lifestyle change...going to be tricky.

congrats on the loss!!

jjrudd 01-24-2014 06:55 AM

Congrats Kumochi on the loss.
I lost 2lbs this week. We says nervous energy doesn't make one lose weight :D I've been cleaning to work out my aggression/stress. Just because something is the right thing to do doesn't always make it easy!

Mern 01-24-2014 07:05 AM

I'm still with our group, just have been out of touch. Difficult week with the death of a friend last week and of my husband's cousin just a few days ago. You know, I'm just at that age where with being one of the younger people in my generation, a lot of friends and family are struggling with serious health issues or are passing away. I'm at peace with the whole issue, though. Maybe Kumochi understands since she's my age.

I haven't been logging my food but am not doing horribly. Didn't weigh in today.

Got a new exercise DVD yesterday-but I can't name it because it's by a different online weight loss support group to which I belonged at one time, but didn't find the support I needed there. I haven't tried the DVD yet, but it's a 28 day bootcamp for people of different levels of fitness.

Going out to eat tonight and have already selected my dinner which is very well on my eating plan.

Wishing everyone a great weekend.

jjrudd 01-24-2014 08:02 AM

Hi Mern. Sorry to hear about the death of a friend and your husband's cousin.
Take care of yourself.
Jenn

Kumochi 01-24-2014 10:51 AM

Thanks for the congrats. it feels good,

Mern I know what you mean. I lost 6 friends or relatives this year, some older , some younger. As I said to a friend last week getting older is dangerous.

Made it to the Y again. It has become my escape winter place. Mary

libby116 01-24-2014 04:17 PM

Weeks Goals
Calories under 1200 YNYYY
Treadmill 3X YYN
Hand weights 3X YN
Water 6 glasses YYY
lose 1 pound a week
Post every day and weigh in on Friday no matter what

The weather has turned very cold and windy. Our furnace isn't working right and the heat was only at 61 F for two days now. We are using the wood stove to heat the house. I am glad it's just the furnace and not the electricity.
Good job to all the people who lost weight this week.

cjohnson728 01-24-2014 04:29 PM

Mern, so sorry for your losses. Yours, too, Mary.

Food was well on plan today, & lots of fluids. New scratchy throat and 16 degrees F = big pot of chicken soup for dinner.

Let's all be weekend warriors!
