Hello;

desertmountain 02-24-2010 01:33 AM

2-23

I only did a few minutes of core, arms and legs. I kept putting off my interval walk (the scheduled SB thing) and ended up not doing it. Arrrgh!
You guys did great! Welcome to the challenge! I hope you had a better day yesterday than I did.

I just got finished walking a half mile at a fairly brisk pace. I'm still too sore from Monday's TBW & yesterday's 15-20 minutes of core, arms and legs that I wasn't able to do the interval walking. I think I'll need to invest in some good walking shoes to relieve the back stress/pain. Whew, this couch & desk tater is tired.
Someone mentioned doing Tai Chi or yoga and I think that I might switch to that for a few days just to get limbered up and this soreness goes away.

cheylynn 02-24-2010 06:57 AM

I'll join you.

I am an accountant so I sit a my desk all day and many nights as well. When I'm not at my desk I'm in the bed usually.

I just started today "First Place 4 Health" with other members of my chuch. I'm hoping that this go round will keep me motivated with others I actually see 3-4 times a week. Working out with my husband while great was a demotivator since the weight came off of him alot faster than me. I got discouraged on more than one occasion and quit.

I got back on fitday today and realized that I had not used this site since 2008, at which time I did not stick with it and meet my goal. :(

So I'm going to start easy on the excersise. I'll use the game that came with the Wii and bowl or box some. Maybe do one of the lighter dance type work out video's but I'm committing to at least 30 minutes of active movement every day this week.

I will do 30 minutes of Wii tonight when I get home from work. I've got church after that, so I'll report back tomorrow.

Stay encouraged, and keep moving!
Chey

Count me in! I have my P90X X-Stretch tonight. I have a sprained ankle so I'm limited on what I can do. However, I'm on a mission to drop 30 pounds and love the challenge.

Hi need2losen2010! You've been motivating me with your long workouts everyday.

Welcome cheylynn. It's good to hear that you have support to keep you motivated with the church group. That and the Wii sounds like fun. Yeah, another desk jockey :D it takes a lot out of you to sit for hours and hours. Funny, but I feel so tired from just sitting and then it's hard to go from that energy into doing exercise.

Welcome on board Runnerchi. wow, P90X! I'm so impressed. I hope your ankle feels better. I'm looking forward to hearing about your workouts. The TV ad for the X version looks really, really hard. My husband and I did the regular P90 for a couple of months last year and we saw a lot of results quickly even though I was doing modified versions of the exercises. But I kept injuring myself so I quit. This time I'm starting off slow and easy and once I'm in better shape I hope to do the regular P90 again.

2-25
My day off and I worked outside in the yard & 'greenhouse' for 5 1/2 hours--nothing strenuous, but was continuously moving so I'm counting it as my daily exercise. I'm too pooped to do the DVD that I'd planned on doing tonight but I think all that moving around today helped to get some of the stiffness and soreness out of my muscles. I bought a Qi Gong DVD, not sure how much exercise is involved, but it says that it tones the whole body.

need2losen2010 02-25-2010 03:34 PM

desertmountain Thank you for the kind words & this challenge it keeps me accountable.
60 minutes/3 miles today.
Keep up the good work everybody

need2losen2010 02-26-2010 01:01 PM

Did 1 hour & 40 = 5 miles on TM. 30 min yoga . Working hard, but not seeing the results I'ld like yet.

desertmountain 02-26-2010 02:02 PM

I worked 4 hours gardening, planting seeds, etc. I'm still working out the stiff & sore muscles so I did a lot of extra stretching while I worked. Again, too tired tonight for the DVD, but plan on doing it in the morning since the greenhouse is done. I think workouts that involve something tangible at the end of it are easier mentally so I've decided on doing some hardscaping projects in the backyard. I'm thinking about building a raised bed and brick steps from the patio/deck to the yard.

Need2losen2010, with your workouts your body has to be doing something. Do you measure yourself? Also try measuring things like your thighs, calves and arms so you can know that your weight is muscle now and not fat. When I did P90 the scale didn't move and I thought I hit a plateau but I had lost inches in my waist, bust & upper thighs and gained a couple of inches on my lower thighs (above my knees), forearms, biceps and calves. I bet that's what's going on with you because there's no way anyone could work out like you do and not have their body respond positively...is there? It's got to be really frustrating to do alll the work you're doing and then not get the results you want.

need2losen2010 02-27-2010 08:37 AM

Good luck on your backyard projects. That should burn some serious calories, & be very rewarding.

I only lost 1 lb. this week. I will do some measurements. Thanks for the idea. Still staying on track. Did 30 min on treadmill, 30 min. aerobics. Will see what this week brings.

Good luck

Day 2 for me.

Walked 1 and 2/3 miles today. It was mostly on an upward incline since my treadmill is not fully level. It took me about 45 mins and then I stretched for a good 15 mins for a long slow cool down. I should sleep well tonight!

suesuetwins 03-01-2010 04:16 PM

30 day challenge

desertmountain...thanks for the challenge. i just joined fit day tonight. can i join your mission here? it's already march 1st. am i supposed to set my own goal for myself here? i can commit to 15 minutes a day of aerobic activity (in some form or another). that's the best i can promise for now.

i empathize with those of you with physical limitations. i have none. if you can do it, i can. you have such courage! i admire that. my challenge is mental illnesses, mostly depression. but one day at a time, i think i can do this, with your help. accountability is a huge incentive for me. thanks again. i'll do my best.

i need to get myself a scale. i haven't owned one in years...couldn't face the weight problem. can anyone relate? but now that i've made goals for myself, i want to see the results. this is a little scary.

need2losen2010 03-02-2010 02:32 PM

3-4

This post is for Thursday the 4th. I almost didn't exercise, it was one of those days  but finally bit the bullet and did 45 minutes of TBW last night.

Welcome mjvallee: I'm glad to hear that you're working on your weight loss goals here at Fitday again. Their food tools are what brought me over here - it makes it so much easier to stay on track since I like to change recipes around to suit my taste buds. Good luck on the 60!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll post my exercise for today this afternoon when I'm finished. I hope to walk in addition to TBW.

need2losen2010 03-05-2010 02:21 PM

Still no strength training, but did 3.5 miles on the TM. today.

desertmountain 03-06-2010 01:38 AM

Friday 3-5
30 minutes TBW
Instead of walking, I spent 2 hours starting to build a raised bed to grow tomatoes. I plan to do more of the same today.

need2losen2010 03-06-2010 03:32 PM

Saturday 3/6 Only did 1 mile. Late night. I haven't missed a day walking in 20 days now; sometimes it's only a mile, but it is still a walk. That's my story & I'm sticking to it. LOL!! I'm really lacking when it comes to strenght training. Will try to improve that this week.

Good luck & stay strong

New to the discussion boards -- how does this challenge work?

Hello,

I'm newly determined to lose and keep extra weight off; and have found in the past that increasing exercise works much better for me than trying to count calories too strictly. Is this an ongoing personal 30 day challenge or is there a segment that's in progress. Please fill me in. I like to walk, hike, use the elliptical machine, and use light weights and a resistance band for strength training. My current plan is to start with 15-20 min. five days a week, varying the exercise, and to work up to 45-60 min. five days a week over the next two months. Does this fit with your group?

desertmountain 03-07-2010 01:24 AM

3-6 Day 13

I worked 4 hours building the raised bed; digging, moving cinder blocks, etc. I was too tired to do my walk in the evening.

desertmountain 03-07-2010 01:41 AM

3-7

today is my recovery day so I'm just relaxing. I still want to get into the habit of talking evening walks, but just haven't made that leap yet. I'll continue working on the raised bed and other gardening & backyard projects and do TBW on days that I can't do the outdoor workouts.

WOW 20 days!! That is so awesome need2losen2010! You're so my inspiration! Good luck with your strength training. I have no doubt that you're going to get into the habit of that and do well with it as well. Are you using a specific program?

JOELVEN2, Your plan sounds great, but actually it doesn't matter what you choose to do for this challenge, just that you do it for 30 days. Everyone makes his or her own goals and are finding their own way. We're here to support each other in this journey.

I have 2 goals. 1- Ease into exercise this time to avoid injuries and to slowly build up strength and endurance and 2 (maybe the most important for me) - create a doable total body workout for myself and get into the habit of doing it everyday-well 6 days a week for me since I take a recovery day every week.
Good luck!

I hope everyone had a great week and will have a successful new week.

need2losen2010 03-08-2010 12:26 PM

Hello;

desertmountain thank you for your kind words. This thread really does help to keep me on track, knowing I need to post what I've done or haven't done is a great motivator. I also mark my mileage on my calendar so it stares me in the face & since Ive got over 3 weeks of walking under my belt, I don't want to miss a day to have to start over. Keep up the good work. Building a raised bed has got to burn a lot of calories.
Good luck to the nebies as well.
