I forgot to update this. I'll do that when I get home to my main computer.

I just wanted to let the walkers know about an awesome site to map and log routes. No more having to drive in your car to figure a route out.

MapMyRun.com - Map your Run, Running Routes. Find Runs Anywhere. Join our Running Community of Runners. Run GPS, GPS, Running Social Network. Google Map Run, Calculate Calories, Online Pedometer, Distance, iPhone, and More. it's free and super simple to use. Just register and start mapping and saving routes. you can also enter your time and it'll tell you the mph, min/mi, how many calories burned (or couse we know this can't be 100% accurate, but the average is 100cal/ mi, now matter if you run, walk or jog). You'll also have a traing log (calander) where it'll total everything up for you.

IMO the greatest thing is the ease of mapping NEW routes, so you can change it up and not get bored with the same old same old.

If anyone signs up, let me know what you think about it or if you have any questions.

Mike

Hey-- I know how frustrating it must be. I know you've heard it all before but, maybe you could try changing your food routine, less carbs or more carbs. I've been reading the Abs Diet for women- a lot of good ideas and recipes in there. Add more weights or less weights more reps? Eat early in day very light in evening? Everybody's body works slightly differently have to find what works for you.

At least you're making the effort- and we're proud of you.

Hello 14.5 miles for me this week

need2losen2010 03-27-2010 03:01 AM

Mary;
Thanks for the kind words & the ideas. I think I do need to adjust my food intake a bit I've had a few days that were still too low, & I've been kind of tired & worn out too.
Still on the journey, to better health. I WON'T QUIT!!

fitgirl63 03-27-2010 05:36 AM

Today & tomorrow I'm going to garden (ok...pull weeds) until I have no extra energy. But I will start walking on Monday...I'll even put by pedometer on while I garden...anyone know how about many steps to a mile?

Well it would depend on the length of your stride....there are 5,280 feet in a mile...

a quick google search

How many steps in a mile?

One mile is equal to 5280 feet. Most people say it takes about 2000 steps for every mile. Of course everyone's stride is different. An average stride is usually somewhere between 2 and 3 feet in length. So on average it takes between 1760 and 2640 steps to complete one mile.

To measure your stride mark a distance of 50 feet. Now walk this distance and count your steps. Divide 50 by the number of steps and that is your stride length. Now, divide 5280 by your stride length to find your "average steps per mile".

What is considered a good fitness walking pace?

An average fitness walking pace is close to a 15 minute mile. But, a good pace will vary depending on your fitness level, walking technique, walking goals, and terrain. For general fitness walking you should walk at a pace that increases your heart rate, and you can maintain for 30 to 60 minutes. Use the talk test... if you can't speak without gasping for air you are walking too fast. If you are walking slow enough that you can carry a tune you are probably walking too slow.

Thanks for the info. I vaguely remember putting on my pedometer once while I was on the treadmill and for some reason 1 mile =2200 steps sticks in my mind. Since I'm short that seems about right. Anyway 4 hrs in the yard (manual pruning) was over 1000 calories -- seems a bit high, but I'll take it. I only walked 942 steps (my blackberry bushes were very dense), but I feel it today in my arm/shoulder and legs. I'm guessing the legs is from stretching and bending. I didn't lose any weight yesterday -- but I mentally know it was better for me to be gardening than watching TV and eating cheetos.

Thanks for the response. I'll probably spend another 3-4 hrs in the yard today (starting in a couple of minutes)...I have to admit, I'd rather watch TV and eat cheetos...but I love eating my blackberries and seeing/smelling my flowers.
