So why are you loosing weight?

I made the decision to loose weight because I had been utterly miserable in my marriage. I had been married for ten years and if it wasn't for my children, I would have thought those ten years was an utter failure!

I had gained so much weight during my marriage that I simply removed any full length mirror I had owned.

After the divorce, I made a decision that I needed to grab hold of my life again! But my problem is that my love life is totally in the pits!!!

Everytime I date some guy or girl it ends pretty quickly. A couple guys did actually mentioned it was my weight. Now, on one hand I was thankful for their honesty but on the other hand I was quite upset that they could not look past my weight.

But it is human nature. People are attracted to your body and they are not. And your success in a relationship may very well have to do with your physical attraction to the other. And Vice versa.

So I am loosing weight because:
1. I want to be healthy again! I am so tired of..well being tired!!!
2. I want a fulfilling love life where they are attracted to my body AND my mind!
3. I just wanna buy cute things again! I really wanna go to the Petites section again!!
4. I wanna pick up my old fun habit of cycling. I can't do that being overweight!

This is me now

and

hopefully I will have a very much slimmer "after pics" in a year or so!!

So what are your reasons why you want to loose weight?

changeisgood29 06-24-2011 01:39 PM

First off, congratulations on your decision to be a healthier and better you! Every day offers so many opportunities to do just that.

I have to say that I think you're adorable - I can't imagine that someone (much less 2 people) would tell you that they didn't see a future with you because of your weight, but I suppose some people are like that. Of course, always lose weight for yourself first and foremost, but I think you're on a good path by letting those turds motivate you into living better.

It's funny, I've been on this journey for well over a year now, but I still had to stop and think as to why exactly I want to lose weight. Thanks for the chance to refresh my memory. ;)

1. To be healthier and stronger.
2. To feel 100% comfortable in my own skin.
3. To (eventually) have a body that shows my dedication to working out instead of my current one that covers up any (well, most) muscle definition with my chub-chub. :)

nottango 06-25-2011 01:54 AM

Here're my reasons:
1. I'm a single mom, and simply can't afford to get ill.
2. I want to set a good example for the kids on how to live a healthy lifestyle. We enjoy "junk" in moderation, but they see their mom exercise daily, and put healthy foods in front of them.
3. I work in a nursing home, and see the MANY MANY people who have health issues directly associated with their obesity. Many are on more than a dozen medications! I am in my 40's and some of the residents aren't much older than I am!
4. My family tends to live to ripe old ages. I would like to be able to enjoy my retirement and go on trips, play with the grandchildren and spend my hard-earned money on things I like - not medication, procedures, etc...
5. I like having people look at me with disbelief when I tell them I'm 45!
6. I like being referred to as "the thin one" at work!
7. Last but not least, still holding out hope that I will meet a nice man who finds me attractive and loves kids!

Amen to that! ;)

To be healthier

Kumochi 06-27-2011 12:30 AM

Good Topic

I'm losing because when I'm not losing I'm gaining. This time once I reach my goal I'll get a handle on maintenance.
Fitness is also an important reason. As my 65th birthday approaches I want to be able to continue being active and able to travel and keep up to the grandkids.
As Nottango said it's fun when people won't believe I'm 64. I've stopped telling them unless there is a senior's discount.
I've been told my appearance does not reflect the real me. I'm working on having an exterior that matches the peson inside.

My first response when I saw this thread is why aren't I losing weight? because I seem to be at a standstill. But my reasons for wanting to are:

1) to control my blood pressure and maybe get off my bp meds
2) to be a good example to DD
3) And I am trying to avoid sugar and cut carbs because those foods cause my fibromyalgia to flare up terribly.
4) My family members don't tend to live long and I want to be around for my DH and my darling girl.
5) And yeah I'd like to look good but at 51 with thinning hair and self consciousness about partial facial paralysis due to Bells Palsy, I figure maybe that ship has sailed. Tho I still say I am cute as a bugs ear.

And honestly, I looked at your pictures and you are beautiful. Seriously beautiful. Anyone who says they don't want you due to appearance is just a stoopid doodyhead. IMHO.

I've only been on this site for a week, but I've spent many years thinking about why I want to lose weight.

1.) I've been a type 1 diabetic for 15 years, and I've only recently gotten my blood sugars under control. Losing weight is going to be an important part of that journey!
2.) I'm totally down with the whole being cute thing. I've been chubby since my early teens, and I'm ready to have the body I've always wanted to have - hello, cute clothes!!!

Cheers to everyone here, I've no doubt we can do it!

I want to look and feel better.

rmdaly 06-27-2011 07:33 AM

I agree with other posters that you are a very pretty girl and from the pictures you don't look as overweight as you describe yourself in your post.

Get back into cycling now! Don't wait until you lose weight to do it. I just finished a bike tour and there were all sizes of people on it. If you really don't want to get out, start with some spinning classes. I bet there are some organized rides in your area you could do in August or September before the weather turns. If you are self-conscious about the tight clothing, look into the biking skirts that are available.

Enjoy yourself, explore yourself and the relationships will follow.

I lost weight because being fat sucks. -Drew Cary

I think that actually sums it up pretty well, but I have a short list of better reasons. I want to lose weight because:

1. I'm a mom to 3 fantastic DD's and I want them to grow up with healthy habits and a healthy relationship with food.
2. I do not want to be the mom sitting on the park bench, I want to be the mom running down the soccer field stealing the ball from the kiddos for the break-away goal that wins the imaginary World Cup - and the crowd goes wild FORZAAAAA! Cause that mom is waaaaay fun.
3. I want to know (and play with) my grandkids and great grandkids.
4. I want to feel like heart attack is a slight "possibility", rather than an "inevitability".
5. When I'm in shape and at a healthy BMI I have heaps of energy, I'm super productive and a ton of fun. Who wouldn't want that?

Well said! I regret that my DD has the same weight issues as do her parents. I'm hoping she'll change her ways while she's still young and can better undo the damage than I can.

Regards,
Michael

1. Better health & confidence- I was on the verge of getting Diabetes and I've got some family history of heart disease and alcoholism-I've already out lived my father.

2. I thought it would help me quit drinking- it did and I got the alcohol consumption under control.

3. I needed a change and being "fat, drunk and stupid was no way to go through life" -Dean Vernon Wormer, Animal House

4. I wanted to look my best for my GF of 20yrs, she's seen me at my worst and I figured it was time to show her the best;)

5. Found this out after I started working out but being active & fit makes you feel a lot younger:D

Drew Cary was in the news lately because he lost like 70-80 pounds and when I heard them read that quote on television I actually cracked up.

I am loosing weight for health reasons and I will lose my job as of 12/31/12 and no one will hire an old fat man!

ripemango 07-02-2011 11:26 AM

To the OP, you R adorable. I would soooooo try to hit that!
I swear sometimes the extra weight is just a great tool at weeding out the 1s u wouldn't want 2 grow with anyway.
Some day your prince/princess will come (cue Snow White song). :)

reasons:
1. to model positive food interactions w DD and provide her with parents capable of vigorous active play.
2. DD - again. i remember a girl in middle school telling me how lucky I was that my mom was small. Her mom was extremely morbidly obese. I didnt really understand what she was saying at the time, but do now. I want my girl to be PROUD of her mommy. I would hate to think she felt shame or embarrassment bc of my weight.
3. obese individuals are discriminated against. I actually notice I am treated better when closer to a healthy weight. It really hurts.
4. I love my tiny little waistline and I'm gonna get it back!!

Fancy_a_cuppa? 07-03-2011 09:20 PM

Ooo so many reasons..
Because I have been diagnosed recently with a disability and would like to do as much as possible to improve my health and prove them wrong on the life expectancy.
Because I have just been ditched by my self centred partner of a decade and I'd like to look fit for all the saucy young chaps out there. :p
Because we were trying unsucessfully for kids and the mirror telling me I look seven months gone isn't exactly boosting my mental stability.
Because I'm now going to be alone and broke and my old skinny clothes have been sitting in a drawer taunting me for the last three years - if I can fit back into them I'd save myself a bundle!

'cuz push-ups and pull-ups are easier when you are 10 pounds lighter :D

Amen to that.

Weight wasn't an issue for me until about 4 years ago. I am losing, because:

1. I want to be healthy again! My BMI says I'm overweight.
2. I'm always tired. I want my energy and life back now!
3. My husband enjoys most of my curves, but I am 100% uncomfortable in my skin.
4. I have a closet and drawers full of clothes that I can't fit. I'm even snug in my workout clothes. Recently had to go out and buy a ton of clothes, because nothing fit anymore.
5. I used to love working out, but the more weight I gained, the harder it was to do so.
6. I'm embarrassed to visit family and friends who haven't seen me in a while, because I've gained 1/2 my weight from just a few years ago.
7. I hate, hate, hate seeing new pix of me.

taubele 07-07-2011 02:23 PM

1) Because I want my boyfriend to be able to pick me up and twirl me around
2) Because I want to start a family some day soon, and I want to be healthy enough to do it right
3) I don't want my future children to have the same relationship with food that I had - destructive and unknowing
4) I want to wear interesting clothing - not just the same 'ol sack-like outfits in different colors
5) Because my family has a history of Type 2 diabetes, and I don't want to go down that road
6) And, of course... because being fat sucks! Thanks, Drew Carey!

njh50 07-08-2011 05:48 PM

1. Because I want my husband to look at me like he used to.:p

2. To come off my Diabetic (Type 2) medication and be full of energy.:)

3. So I dont feel embarressed when I meet new people or someone I havent seen for a while.

SpdRcrChk 07-09-2011 12:03 AM

So I don't feel crappy whenever I look in the mirror.
So I don't feel judged due to my exterior.
So I can avoid diabetes.

Florida Ray 07-10-2011 04:24 AM

My biggest reason for losing weight is to improve my health. I also want to be able to be more active and move around easier.

It is not fun to have to do everyday tasks when you are obese. I am tired of having to stuggle with things that should be easy.

Most of the time, I feel very uncomfortable with my excess weight. I really need to follow through with this and try to get closer to a normal weight.

Best wishes to everyone!

wildbeanerz 07-11-2011 05:02 AM

Lots of reasons...

1. to be healthier of course. I want to live a long life that isn't shortened by being obese or just suffering through the last years in a sedentary state. I've seen it and it isn't pretty.
2. Vanity...I want my teen boys to never be embarrassed of their mom. When their friends go home, I want them to say man his mom is hot. :D
3. For my hubby. He loves me just the way I am but I see him looking and touching more often and in a different way than recently when I was so heavy.
4. To be more professional. I know that looks aren't supposed to affect your job, but they do. If I were to apply for a position and someone smaller did with the same qualifications. They would get the job.

Groodle 07-11-2011 08:32 AM
