This is day one.
 
Went for my yearly phisical last week and the DR. told me what I already knew but never heard from an impartial person.
He said, You are obese, you are 100 pounds over weight.
If you do not lose weight you will have severe health problems in the near future. So today is the first day of my new life and my new eating habits.
I weigh 254 pounds and am 5'8". It has taken 54 years to get here so I know it will not be lost quickly. My long term goal is 12/31/2012. My short term goal is to get started and move towards the long term goal and my new life.

I am the same age and have been right where you are. Good luck. You are in the right place. Read all the posts, learn and ask questions. We all support each other around here and it really helps. Check out the over 100 pounds thread to find others going through the same thing(s) you are.

Hello LP, I am Albie, age 59, male, and have been here on FitDay since last October. I am 5' 10" tall and when I began my changes I weighed 252 lbs. Like you, I had gone to my GP for a much needed physical and the blood work confirmed what I had suspected---high cholesterol---high blood sugar (borderline diabetic)---high blood pressure---obesity. I made a decision to change the many bad habits I had acquired over the years and I have made great strides.

Today, 217 days later, I weigh less than 170 and I feel better than ever. If you are serious about changing your habits and recreating yourself for the better, you are in a great place here at FitDay. The people here are very knowledgeable, compassionate and supportive. Welcome to this great peer group! If you need a nudge in the right direction, a pat on the back or a much needed kick in the buttocks, you will be able to find it here. Good luck to you. May you be successful in your quest.
