Fourth of July Lose 10% of Your Body Weigth Challenge Discussion

OK, here it is. We'll do this the same way as the April Fool's Day Challenge. This will be the discussion thread and we'll have a Check-in thread so everyone can post their starting info and updates.

So, the goal of this challenge is to lose 10% of our body weight.

I'm at 258 as of this morning, so my goal is (rounded off) to lose 26 pounds by the Fourth of July, which would put me at 232 pounds.

We've got 95 days to get this done, so let's go!

Regards,
Michael

DancinBear2 03-31-2011 01:39 AM

I am starting this challenge at approximately 265 (I haven't weighed myself in a few days). This gives me a target of 26.5 pounds but I am going to aim for 30 pounds and set my target to 235.

waynegretzky 03-31-2011 01:50 AM

My weight loss has been on a 3 month hiatus.... but just coming back into the mindset i need to be in. That being said i will be amazed if i lose 21 pounds but i plan to really make a go for this. Cheers everyone :)

taubele 03-31-2011 01:59 AM

I'm really excited to join the challenge this time :D I think the 10% goal is a GREAT GREAT GREAT idea/motivator!

My weight this morning was 195.1, though I think that some of that is water-weight. Regardless, I'm going to use it. That gives me 19.5 lbs. to lose by July 4th, which I'll round up to a nice, even 20 to get myself to 175 (175 will also be 40 lbs. lost for me, which is about half of my total weight loss goal. All kinds of milestones to hit!!)

Thanks for starting this up, Michael, and good luck to everyone!

~Terri

I'm excited to join in on this challenge! Conveniently enough, my weigh-in day is tomorrow, so I'll throw my name & stats on the list then. Looking forward to being inspired by and working with all of you lovelies. :D

MAIN80 03-31-2011 05:39 AM

Hello to all,
So my starting stats for this challenge, I am 163 so need to lose 16 pounds by July :)
For this challenge aside from focusing on my food intake (which I think mostly have it control) I really need to up my activity level, I need to be more disciplined and constant, so will keep you posted. Also I think I don't want to do the weekly weigh in so I will do bimonthly.
See you all around and let's stay motivated!

VirusInside 03-31-2011 06:02 AM

I can't wait to get started! I was at 327 when I decided call it for the April challenge (even though I've actually dropped another 2 since then). I'm still listing my start weight for this challenge as 327 (more impressive loss by the end that way :D)

I'll be aiming for a 32 pound weight loss. LET'S DO THIS!

VirusInside 03-31-2011 06:06 AM

You know, on second thought I think I am going to list my start weight as 325. Keep things more challenging.
Percentages remain about the same. Still 32 pounds... 32.5 to be exact.

Misery16226 03-31-2011 06:15 AM

I have 24 pounds to lose, seems like a lot but I'm going to give it my best effort!
Also will be here to cheer everyone else on ^-^!!!!! We can do this! This challenge, and doing it with other people makes me feel extremely motivated :)

wildbeanerz 03-31-2011 07:14 AM

As I posted in another thread I have 31.2lbs to lose to make the challenge. That seems like such a number but with what I have done so far...I am sure I can do it!! Thanks for the pep talk guys!!!

MakerBabe 03-31-2011 07:23 AM

I wasnt sure about it because I am afriad of failing, but I am going to give this a shot! My weight right now is hovering between 255 and 260 so I will just take 260 and make my goal 26 pounds! I am excited and will stick with this! I look forward to seeing everyones progress.

Way to go! Might as well go for it. You've got nothing to lose but pounds!

loisann5 03-31-2011 08:39 AM

I'm excited and looking forward to my first weigh in for the challenge. Sunday's my day (keeps me focused over the weekend).
Lois:D

Geoffers 03-31-2011 09:00 AM

I'm about 157lb. 10% (16lb) is probably a bit too much for my frame to lose ( especially since I'm looking to build strength and muscle). 141lb just sounds too small. Therefore I might declare victory at 10lb but I'm in... getting 10lb will be hard enough.

rainbow24 03-31-2011 09:49 AM

I will sign in tomorrow morning, since Friday is my weigh in day. Canada Day will be my ending day, which just happens to fall on a Friday as well.

dreamergirl27 03-31-2011 10:28 AM

My Starting weight is 244.4, so that means 24.4 to lose. This will be my first challenge, looking forward to it! Oh, as an added incentive I joined a learn to run group - ending in a 5k race on July 1st.

Bubbs21 03-31-2011 10:54 AM

Count me in for a July 1st Canada Day Goal

I am so excited about setting another goal and working with my fitday friends. I am hoping the spring weather will bring with it more outdoor activity and cheery faces.

As I haven't weighed myself this week, I will weigh-in in the morning and set my goal for July 1st.

July 1st, July 4th, it's all good! Glad to see you in on this challenge, Jacqueline.

I agree, this is going to be a great spring and summer for outdoor activities. I've got some climbs and hikes planned and will get my mt. bike out soon.

Regards,
Michael

truly_tasha 03-31-2011 01:59 PM

I had my weeklyweigh in today so I will be starting the challenge at 305.2 lbs. That means I have 31 lbs to lose by the 4 th of July. Thanks for making this challenge - I love the idea of setting smaller goals for myself!

Tasha, you can do it!

Don't forget to add/update your info in the Challenge Check-in thread.

Michael

MunaAmin 03-31-2011 10:00 PM

I'm in! Mecompco, you are such a great motivator :)
My starting weight is 159 so it means 16lb for me. Well I will be happy if I make 10lb, bringing me in the 140's. My final goal is 125lb by the end of the year.

Good luck everyone!

Geoffers 03-31-2011 10:48 PM

Just to point out, Mecompco... if you get to 230lb you'll have lost almost half your starting bodyweight in little over a year. That would be astounding, so go for it!!

DetroitBreakdown 04-01-2011 12:01 AM

I'm gonna try to get over feeling bad for losing focus over the last month, and barely eeking into success on the last challenge and try to blow this one away! I should be aiming for 30 pounds down by the 4th of July, but I'm going to really try for 40. The weather should be improving and there will be lots of opportunities to get outside and burn extra calories.

Good luck everyone, and keep up the great work!
Matt

Oh, yes! Ha ha--kinda wish I'd documented my actual starting weight. I actually started on May 4th and it was six weeks later o n June 19th before my scale wasn't maxed out over it's 400 pound limit. So, the 440 is just a guess--could have been a bit more or a bit less (I suspect more).

I'll try to dig up some "before" pics to post on May 4th, though I was pretty camera shy so I don't know how recent they'll be.

Regards,
Michael

gbargsley 04-01-2011 12:23 AM

I would like to participate in the challenge. I see how everyone did such a great job on the April Fool's challenge.

My starting weight is 458, so I guess 10% of that would be 46 pounds. I look forward to the challenge and hope to beat it.

Garry, glad to have you in the Challenge! How's it going this week--hopefully another 10 pounder :D.

Michael

yunalee 04-01-2011 02:31 AM

i did some math and i would need to lose alittle more than 20lbs for 10% of my weight.

my current goal is to be 190 end of june, but i guess i could try to push it to 185 by july 4th.

only thing is i severly lack motivatioin lately.

i only have 3 weeks left of school so after that my time will be open up more till june (i start my co-op then) so i hae to work at it at home.

does anyone know of a website or something that i'd be able to make a list of small workouts i can do at home?

You can try freetrainers.com, they let you specify what goals you want and what facilities you have available to you, then they design a workout schedule for you.

MakerBabe 04-01-2011 03:28 AM

Im getting more and more excited about this challenge! Im going to make my weigh in day Friday because on the weekends, even though I am extra active, my food choices may not be the best. I already cant wait for next Friday!! Haha.

Good luck to everyone with their challenge!!

Karen

Shannon, welcome to the Challenge.

My 20th reunion (back in '02) happened to coincide with my lowest weight the LAST time I lost a bunch (down to 184). It was pretty cool--I was probably twice that in HS.

My 30th will be next year--we'll see how that turns out :D.

Michael

Hi! I've also been a lurker for the past month or so. I am joining this challenge as I need the support I have seen from this board. I am 241.6 lbs so my 10% is 24.2 (give or take the .2) Good luck all.

Awesome!
I started at 241.8 :) So I have the same to lose. (I'm sticking to just 24) Good luck to you as well!~ Excited to be 217lb or even less by the end of this !

Crimpet 04-02-2011 01:08 PM

This is an Awesome Idea! And it's timing is great because it's right after my 31st B-day and Right before my Husbands 24th B-day which was one of my goal days too. So, though I have weigh in tomorrow, I know my weight is right at about 180lbs so I'll say I've got a goal of 18 lbs to lose by July 4th. :D

loisann5 04-03-2011 02:38 AM

My weigh-in day is Sunday morning and I'm down 1.8#. OK for a couple days effort. Will be more exciting after I put in a week's work. I've got my meals cooked for the next 4-5 days. Just heat and eat. :) Lois

DancingBear2: We have the same weight and same goal. I will keep an eye on you!

MunaAmin 04-03-2011 06:10 AM

hi all
i just want to share something with you. I had my BF measured (digitally) on 19th Feb and it was a huge number. Then, six weeks and six pounds later, my BF was 3.5% lower!!!! I am so happy :) you can't quite cheat on body fat measurements, can you? Like if you know you have a weight-in tomorrow, so you go easy on the dinner tonight. You can't do that with body fat. I lost some weight and I expected the number to go down, but i thought maybe 1-2%.
I lost some 20lb since i started here on fitday, but part of me still doesn't believe that I'm actually losing fat, Now I even know how many % I'm losing :)

shibaluvr 04-03-2011 08:29 AM

I'm In

4/3/11 268.9#

Goal: 246#

I'm going to give it my best shot. Thanks for putting these challenges here.

I started alli today. I've had success with it before with little side effects. I am going to see if it helps me get to this goal.
