Question Issue weighing myself ....

I tend to weigh myself at the gym as i dont have scales at home, im usually at the gym in the evening and im finding im SO much heavier weighing myself at this time. I drink around 2 litres of water through the day.

Is it true that your true weight is in the morning after going to the toilet or is this jusy a myth? Also if there anyway i can get my true weight when im weighing myself at the gym?

I almost NEVER weigh myself in the evening unless it is just out of curiosity. When I have, I have been 2-3 pounds heavier than when I weigh in the morning. So no, I don't think that is a reliable weight to go by.

I weigh myself in the morning after I have used the restroom 2 or 3 times and before I eat or drink anything for breakfast. LOL- I drink a ton of tea during the day so it really builds up overnight. I would suggest buying a cheap digital scale. I bought 3 different scales with all the bells and whistles- not cheap ones, and was not happy with the way they worked. They were very inaccurate. I could step on and it would say one weight, step back on and it would give me another. I finally bought a very cheap, no thrills model and it has worked wonderfully and seems to be very accurate.

I just don't know of any way to accurately weigh yourself in the evening when you have been drinking and eating all day. Also I have heard that you weigh more after working out too. Something to do with your muscles retaining water?? Don't know if that is true or not but that is what I have heard.

Thanks!

I seriously need to get me some scales then! i have no idea if i have lost or gained! Thanks for the scales advice as well, as i would have probably gone for expensive ones thinking they were better! If you are in the UK are there any you can recommend?

Thanks

Emma

I have been told that the best time to weigh is in the morning.

Default Weighing In

I have tested this myth myself, and it seems true that you are lighter in the day. It makes sense being your muscles are relaxed because you havent used them much yet that day and you also dont have water or food in your system. I like the Weight Watcher scale (which measures in the metric system as well as in pounds) so it's good if you are in the UK. It reads out in digital which i like and you can also store up to 5 measurement in it if you want to track your weigh-ins.

It doesn't really matter as long as you are consistent with the time and scale. The number may vary a little bit during the day but the overall trend should stay the same. Also, since you drink a lot of water already, your body shouldn't retain that much water during the day (unless you have certain medical conditions or eat a lot of salt) and you do sweat while you work out.

Scales are not expensive. I have a digital one that was giving me inconsistent results. I found that it wasn't level. I moved it to a certain place in the floor and now it weighs with more precision. I've also found that clothes can add up to 5 pounds. For instance, I weighed myself right out of the shower, and then again fully dressed, and the difference was 5 pounds (2.3 kg). I've also heard that it's best to weigh first thing in the morning, and only once per week.

You're weight is giong to vary all day everyday, so it's better to weigh yourself every few days right after your morning wake up. because of the food you eat the day before, your body may retain water and such to process the food and other factors as well. weighing yourself everyday might get very discouraging so i would recommend against that, just for your psyche's sake.

WW scales have always worked for me. I like weighing myself straight out of bed naked on Thursday mornings. I pick Thursday because I tend to work harder early in the week and slack at the end of the week.
I agree that you do not need an expensive scale. I need a scale at home otherwise I end up gaining a lot of weight, the scale really keeps me on track.
