Has anyone told you ladies lately how awesome you are?? If not, YOU'RE AWESOME!!! I don't really have too much new to report, I don't measure up until tomorrow, and while it hasn't been exactly a week, I was going to pop over to my mom's tomorrow, so I'll probably hop on her scale just to do a check on the weight.

I ended up not making it over to archery Sunday, it ended up not being as nice as it was supposed to be, and because I stayed up uber late Saturday, I ended up sleep later than I meant to, but I ended up doing an hour and a half of hardcore housecleaning, so I got my sweat-time in!

I was reading all the green tea comments from over the weekend. I knew it was good antioxidant wise, I didn't realize its weight properties. I love the stuff, and have a ton on it in the pantry. I'll have to start reigning my caffine habit under control and make some time for the tea! It would be a pleasant way to end the night, too.

You guys are making me laugh with the comments about being obsessive about the new regiems and being on here, I, too, am the same way! Obviously. I really like the support, and everyone here seem to have a great sense of humor, and I'm having fun getting to you know through our journies. We're doing well, my friends, and we're already successful!! :D

Hhhuuunnnnngggrrryyy

I am SO hungry right now and thankfully Johnny is making dinner. Up until this point I have only eaten like 760 calories all day and so I can now eat another 720 tonight. I can't calculate my dinner calories because Johnny made a home made soup.... which has lots of kale in it, it also has beans, chicken sausage (apparently half the calories of pork sausage), tomatoes, and some other good stuff in it... But I guess I can endulge myself a little bit, right? I worked for 5 hours today (on my feet the whole time) and so I burned quite a few calories today doing that... and later Johnny and I are going to go hit the fitness center and I'll probably try to do 45 minutes of Cardio workout tonight. Who knows, It might be possible.

I am so excited to get on the scale on Friday and see if I lost any weight this week. I know, I know... It's still 4 days away! But I think I am dropping even a little more weight. I went to Old Navy today and the XL's actually fit! YAY!

How has everyone else done on the first day of this wonderful week?

kathietaylor 01-25-2010 02:36 PM

I have done well with the food so far today. I have eaten 1150 calories, which means I can have a small snack later. I know late night eating is discouraged, but when you are prediabetic you are supposed to have some food before bed to steady your blood sugar over night.

I did the treadmill again today, I went 22 minutes, but went faster, and had a higher incline. I was out of breath!! It was good. I even had some burning muscles. Then I cleaned house while dancing around to my iPod, boy that makes cleaning kinda fun!! LOL!!

Jen your husband's soup sounds yummy and healthy! I am sure it won't count against you at all! It is exciting when smaller sizes fit, isn't it!! You are doing so great!!

Shell250 01-25-2010 02:51 PM

Hi Gang,

I think you are all awesome too!

I had a good day!! Back in the oatmeal/fruit-for-breakfast-habit. It really fills me up and I am good until lunchtime. Working on my grocery list (still), and planning meals for the week. Going to pick up groceries tomorrow.

I have started eating dry curd cottage cheese, mixed with a little bit of low fat milk and a touch of sour cream. Apparently the creamed cottage cheese is extremely high in sodium; so I am mixing it up from the dry curd myself to avoid the sodium overload. Also adding some dried chives and pepper - yum!

JenniferAld 01-25-2010 06:49 PM

So, I was eleven minutes away from my 45 minute Cardio workout goal but my body did not want to push.. at all. BUT I did burn almost 400 calories. I feel good right now. It is SO hard for me to not walk to Publix and get on the scale. It becomes an addiction.

I looked up the calorie deficit thing and and only eating 1,500 puts me at over a 1000 calorie deficit daily. Like, it puts me at a 1,200 deficit. Plus I have to add in the calories I burn when I exercise. So that puts me at about a 1,500 calorie deficit a day. Is that even healthy? At the rate I'm going I should technically be losing 1lb every two days. Aka- 7 lbs every 14 days. Right? (It's something like 3,100 calories equals one pound.)

dbrinkley80 01-26-2010 02:00 AM

Good morning, everyone! I just finished measurements, and it comes to a total of 3.5 inches shrunk this past week. My friends, who are wonderful, wonderful people have invited me out to go catch Avatar in 3D on them tonight, so I'll have to run to mom's tomorrow to catch up with her and do a weight check. Since she normally works late, I wouldn't get to see her before I have to leave to set out across town to the theater. One of the nice things about being flat broke is I don't have a choice but to pass up the tempting yummies at the consession stand!

I usually enjoy some yogurt and a banana, and sometimes a hard boiled egg or two (when calories permit and for some extra protein) for breakfast. I have this minor obsession with Stonyfield Farms organic yogurts. Even the fat free is delicious-it doesn't taste fat free! I also have a whole bunch of veggies I need to get prepped for my lunch time salads for today and the rest of the week. I usually just do it all at one time at the beginning of the week. I got a mandolin slicer for Christmas, and I love that thing, it makes life so much easier when it comes to slicing veggies!

Well, I'm gonna go munch an apple, workout and get lunch ready and eaten. Have a good morning, everyone!

I have the same concern! I've noticed that I'm consuming 1500-1600 calories per day, but I don't worry too much if I go over that because fitday says I am burning about 3000 calories. I changed my profile from Seated All Day to Sedentary to lower my calories burned by about 350 calories per day. I'm still closer to a 1000 calorie deficit than 500. But I don't feel hungry and am eating healthy, so that's fine. I try to eat five small meals instead of three big ones, it keeps my appetite under control to know that I can snack whenever and just keep it a small portion and something healthy. My thought was to not go more than 2-3 hours without eating something, even something small. Plus, the lunch and dinner-time eating is usually a little bigger, out of habit I guess.

Jennifer, you are so obsessed with the scale, LOL! I too find myself getting on there daily, just cuz I want to know. But I really should wait and do it only once per week.

Shell250 01-26-2010 06:09 AM

Hi FitDay Friends,

Jennifer, I know what you mean, now that I have lost a few pounds. I am finding myself on the scale just about everyday (even though I swore I would not do this!). It might have to go back into the closet for now, and out of the kitchen where I keep it at the moment. On that note.......it looks like I am down another 2 lb; but won't say that for sure until I weigh myeslf on my weigh in day which is Friday. But I am saying a pre-Yay! :D

I bumped down my base metabolism, 'calories burned', for the day. It was just over 3000, I custom set it to be 2500. I don't know, I'm a little skeptical of generalized calculations, and just don't think I burn 3000 (before exercise). I guess time will tell for all of us though, I think after awhile we'll get a feel for what is best for each of us as the pounds continue to drop!

Way to go Diane, excellent! :) I am down a couple inches;one inch off my waist, and one off my hips. Such a grand feeling. Enjoy Avatar, I heard it was excellent and want to see it myself soon!

Hi Doggie, That is what I am trying to do too; lots of small meals/snacks throughout the day. Keeps the blood sugar level steady, energy up, and metabolism on a good constant buuurrrnnnn! I feel so good.

I am so proud of the way I grocery shop now. Just got back, and have a lovely selection of food to work with this week. A little bit of processed food; but for the most part real, decent, healthy, unprocessed food.

JenniferAld 01-26-2010 07:04 AM

Johnny doesn't wanna let me get on the scale until Friday! lol

Does anyone here calculate the calories in what they drink? Like, I drink green tea and this fruit juice that is high in tons of vitamins. I only drink so much of the juice because it's literally almost $8.00 for one bottle of this stuff (probably 3 cups of juice.) I dilute it with the green tea and it makes both of them taste better. Anyhow, should I count those in as calories consumed? Or just ignore them?

dbrinkley80 01-26-2010 07:14 AM

I don't count water or coffee-since I drink it black- but I do with anything else. Especially fruit juice. I get that Simply Grapefruit, becuase I'm too lazy to deal with an actual grapefruit, and its got 90 calories for a cup, or 8oz. So depending on how closely you play it to your desired calorie intake, I would think its probably a good idea to account for them.

JenniferAld 01-27-2010 02:16 AM

This thread is slowing down...

I didn't mean to but I ended up staying at like 1,300 calories yesterday... Including my subway meal. I had one of their Low Carb subs and it was under 400 calories... but then I got the chips (baked lays) which put me a little over 500 calories for dinner. But still! It tasted SOOOO good. In fact I am gonna walk there again today to eat it again. It's my day off so I need some good walking time.

You know, now that I'm getting the hang of staying under 1,500 calories it's not as hard as I thought it was. Ya' know?

dbrinkley80 01-27-2010 02:42 AM

I feel the same way, Jennifer. On both counts! I'm a little worried by the lack of activity on here. I'm hoping that everyone's just busy getting out there and getting active. I post on the 100lb club thread, too, and no one's posted anything in a week now. I put something up yesterday asking if folks were alright, because it worries me.

I'm also having an easier time keeping my calories in check. It used to be a struggle to keep things under 1800-1900, and now I start getting frustrated when I creep up to the 1400 cal mark. I'm so much more comfortable in my new eating patterns. I have to think less about making the effort, which makes me really happy. I also feel less deprived and tempted to go nuts, which I've never experienced in my long sordid weight loss attempt history. I like it!! :D

Now I just need to master the exercise thing. I still feel like I'm obsessed with this whole thing, and I haven't determined if that's a bad thing or not, but seeing as its working, I don't think I'm going to complain yet.

How are you all doing??

I am the same way. I'm a bit obsessed with everything as well... But honestly, I think it's a good thing to be a tad bit obsessed (at least for me) because when I start to relax on it I start to relax on my diet as well. Which as history shows, when I start to relax on my diet I end up giving up.

When does exercise become easier? Doesn't it release endorphins in your system or something? Or am I just making that up?!?

Oh, it definitely does! I feel great for the rest of the day after I exercise. For me, it starts to kick in usually during the cool down. Which is why I can't figure out for the life of me why its so hard to get it in gear! I know when the "girl stuff" gets really bad I have to take the day off, but other than that, I have no good reason.

My best friend thinks I'm nuts because I say that I am in a much better mood and have so much more energy when I exercise, because she says it does the opposite for her, it makes her more tired. From everything I've studied, and heard people say, and through personal experience, exercise is the best thing for stress relief, mood and energy.

Maybe I just need to set a challenge for myself, I seem to do better with a goal in mind. Accountability really works wonders for me! We could always try and set up a challenge on here. See how many people can stick to a goal they set for themselves each week. Like, I really want to be exercising every day. Which means, I should get on here everyday and report in about whether or not I exercised that day! I really need to stop being lazy!

dbrinkley80 01-27-2010 03:29 AM

Oh yeah, I don't know when or if it really becomes easier. Because you always have to be challenging yourself and upping the intensity. I think it just has to become habit and part of your daily routine, just like the changes in eating habits.

LOL- now I don't need to write anything! You said exactly what I wanted to say. I got up this morning and walked 2 miles on the treadmill and I feel great. If only I could make myself do it every morning. Diane- let's do it! Commit ourself to exercising if only a bit every day. I will post tomorrow morning AFTER I am done. Hope to see you doing the same :)

kathietaylor 01-27-2010 04:01 AM

Hello, my friends!

yesterday my internet was misbehaving and I could not get fitday to load!! It was so frustrating! I continue to do well with the food intake, however...I had a 3 pound weight gain in 2 days!! I mean WTF was THAT???? I have put it down to fluid retention, because this morning I am down 2 pounds from yesterday....but wow, the fluctuations are kind of extreme...and a little disheartening too. I know I shouldn't get on that scale daily, but I can't stop myself. I won't count the ups and downs during the week until Friday's weigh in.

I woke up today feeling crappy, no reason that I can think of other than a shortage of sleep perhaps. I don't know if I will make the treadmill today, not unless I can shake this fatigue I am feeling.

Sounds like Jen and Dianne are doing splendidly! Oh and it is 3500 calories to a pound...so 1000 calorie deficit per day should lead to a 2 pound weight loss per week...in theory. Judging from my own experience there are obviously other factors involved, because I am running with about 1000 to 1300 calorie deficit a day, and managed to show a 3 pound weight GAIN! Go figure.

showmenow 01-27-2010 04:23 AM

I hate that! But at least you KNOW it is fluid. There is no way you could have actually gained that weight in that short amount of time. The way I look at it is- hey I am going to be a couple pounds lighter in a few days when I am no longer retaining water LOL.

I went out to dinner with a couple of friends last night. We haven't gone out in about a year and had a blast. The waitress came and asked what we wanted to drink and one friend ordered a beer. The waitress looked at me and my friend said- no she won't drink one, she is healthy! She went on to tell the waitress how much I have lost etc. The waitress was absolutely wonderful! I ordered a grilled chicken breast and she told me it came with some kind of sauce on it that I probably wouldn't want. Then I ordered a side salad and she told me it came with cheese and bacon- did I want it left off? I told her yes and she said she would have them add extra veggies instead.

I ended up having a dinner just like I would have cooked at home (without all the extra stuff). It was great. I always kind of freak out when I have to eat out and it has been over a year now. I usually prefer to just eat at home. I am so commited to this weight loss that I really have a problem eating food that I have not prepared because I don't know what is in it. I even take my own salad dressing when I eat out. I know that is so weird but most restaurants don't usually have fat free dressing. They have light (which is just about as bad as regular in my opinion). So I know that if there is nothing else on the menu to order I can always get a salad and have my own dressing.

I have to say that most restaurants are very accomodating if you ask though. Believe me, I have learned to ask! Do you guys eat out very much?

Hello;
I like the idea of an exercise challenge. How about it? Commit to an activity for at least 20 min. 5 x a week. Then post if we've met the goal . I too know if I get on the treadmill I do feel so much better. But sometimes it's hard to take the first step. If I say I'll do 10 min. once I start , then it's 10 more, & usually another 10. Just have to get past that first step.

dbrinkley80 01-27-2010 05:00 AM

I don't eat out a lot, but that's more because I'm broke right now than anything else. We did eat out in December for my mother in law's birthday, and my dinner came with a salad. The waitress looked at me like I was crazy when I said I didn't need a dressing. She said she wished she could do that. I really enjoy the flavor of the veggies by themselves! In fact, I just got finished eating a spincach salad as part of my lunch, with no dressing, and it was awesome!

Anyway, if I know I'm going out, I just make adjustments for the earlier part of my day, and I feel like I can really trust myself to make good decisions now. I splurge every now and then, I'd say about once or twice a week, but other than that, I find myself not really wanting the junk anymore.

I do the same thing!! I will commit to 10 minutes, but it always turns out to be more! And I will commit to a challenge of 5 days a week, 10 minutes each time minimum (most likely will be 20 or more, but I need to set myself reasonable goals or I will give up!). I have already gone 3 times this week (counting Sunday as day 1 of the week) so two more to go!! I have 4 days to accomplish this.

showmenow 01-27-2010 07:10 AM

I'm in. I walked two miles this morning- 30 minutes.

dbrinkley80 01-27-2010 07:27 AM

oh good lord, I just finished my workout. I pushed it a little harder today than I have been, I'm definitely feeling it today!! Good job everyone who's worked out today!! Way to be strong!! :D

JenniferAld 01-27-2010 08:38 AM

So discouraged!

Okay, I just walked to publix and got on the scale and it says 213! I have been working my butt off... eating a lot less... (actually sometimes going to bed at night hungry!) and exercising A LOT! I got on the scale on Sunday and I was 213.5 and now today I am 213? What am I doing wrong? Like I am completely discouraged and feel almost defeated here. I thought the scale would have shown me more of a weight loss then that.

kathietaylor 01-27-2010 09:44 AM

Jen, that is a half a pound lost in 72 hours! That is GOOD! Don't be discouraged. At least you didn't do like me and freaken GAIN 3 pounds, since Friday. I am down 2, which means I am up 1 still, and I have been GOOD! Our bodies don't act like calculators, unfortunately. So do like I am going to and keep going, one day that scale will reflect our hard work!! Make sure your water intake is up, any fluid retention can be cured by drinking more water!! I need to remind myself of this too!

JenniferAld 01-27-2010 10:02 AM

Kathy, Thank You for encouraging words. I guess I forgot to look at the big picture.... in the last 7 days I've lost 5 pounds.

Shell250 01-27-2010 10:55 AM

Hi Gang,

Count me in on the exercise challenge - good idea!!!! :)

It is amazing how weight can go up and down from day to day, definitely fluid weight. Salt intake could contribute to water retention too, I believe.

We don't eat out nearly as much as we used to. And recently, I feel I have somewhat re-discovered cooking so I am motivated to try new and exciting recipes. I actually prefer to eat in now, and just splurge on ingredients every once in awhile like crab (having that tonight, yum).

Feeling good, got some good walking in today and I do believe I will be reporting a loss this Friday!

I have some trouble getting on this website from time to time too...not sure why. I find it helps to run Internet Explorer 'without add-ons'.

Way to go Jennifer, 5lb in 7 days is AWESOME!

Hang in everyone, we can do this! :) :)

dbrinkley80 01-27-2010 01:17 PM

So I have a question for you guys. Has anyone weighed themselves on both a digital scale and an "old school" rotary scale and come up with two vastly different numbers? My friend's rotary scale weighs me in right around 300. My mom's digital tonight says I weight 338. I don't feel like I'm that heavy. I mean, I guess it could be denial, but I look at folks who are in the 330's, and my body doesn't look anything like them. I know every body is different in the way that it carries weight, but still. I've never been that heavy, and I can wear clothes that I was wearing under 300, so I can't imagine they would still fit 40 pounds later.

I also noticed that when I was eating calories for the higher weight, I wasn't really losing anything at all, pounds or inches, but eating at the 300 compensation I've been dropping. I'm very confused by this, so I was curious about such a disparity. Another thing that makes me trust the rotary scale more is that her scale is only about five pounds shy of her doctor's, and come on, we all know we weigh more on the doctor's scale than any other one!! ;)

I just can't believe that I would be in 22's and they would be loose at almost 350, you know. I don't really know which one to believe, but I guess since whatever I'm doing is working, I'll just stick with and my tape measure and not worry about the numbers so much. But you better believe I'll be hopping back on her scale the next time I'm over there!!

Thanks for listening!!:o

need2losen2010 01-27-2010 02:30 PM

Did 30 minutes on the treadmill today. My second workout of the week did 60 min on treadmill last night while watching the Biggest loser it was a really slow walk but I kept the incline between 7-10.

Shell250 01-27-2010 03:23 PM

Hi Diane, The scale I would trust would be the best quality one, and maybe the one that is newer (either digital or the old school one). I trust the scale at my doctor's office, and I just recently went for a check up, so I know where I am at, and it is within 2 lb of my own home scale. Nice to know your exact 'real' weight - BUT in the end, as long as the numbers go down with your measurements, that really is what is important!! :)

Needtolose...Way to go, nice workout! Glad to see so many treadmillers here; I am one too! Feels good to dust off my treadmill and actually use it now!!! :)

kathietaylor 01-27-2010 07:45 PM

Diane, you should chose only ONE scale to use. You will find there are differences with every scale you step on. So if you want to use your mother's, then only use hers. Or if you really want accuracy, go to your doctor's office once a week and weigh in there. I bought myself a new scale for this adventure as my old one was broken.

I did great today with the food, and terrible with the exercise. I woke up fatigued and it didn't pass until I had a 3 hour nap...so I listened to my body, it was too tired to do anything. Now it is almost 2am and I am WIDE awake!!

Shell I sometimes can't load up fitday either, yesterday I couldn't get on at ALL!

showmenow 01-28-2010 01:07 AM

Morning exercise done- 30 minutes, 1.52 miles. I will have to do more later today and make it a nice round 2 miles!

Way to go Showmenow, getting the exercise in to start the day off right!

Hi Kathie, Try starting your internet browser with 'add-on's disabled', then open FitDay. I use Internet Explorer and find the version with 'no add-on's' under Program Files. Hope this helps.

I was surprised my scale was as accurate as it was - it is old, and not the digital kind. As long as those numbers keep going DOWN I'll be happy! :)

Yesterday I did not eat properly and could feel the difference in my energy level. Got busy and skipped breakfast (!), then grabbed a muffin for lunch at Starbucks  (I can only imagine how unhealthy those are), and I was famished by supper. I mindlessly just let this happen. There is really no excuse. Need to put nutrition first, it is so important. Had a reasonable and healthy supper though. Anyways, I didn't overdo it, so that is good. Back on track today!

Onwards and downwards friends! :) Grabbing my iPod and getting on the treadmill this morning. Maybe listen to a little Santana and Nickleback today. What do you do when you are on your treadmill? (besides sweat..) lol I used to try to read a magazine, but that didn't work for me. I find music the best, and most motivating to pass the time quickly!

Hey people! I haven't been up long - had a lovely sleep in this morning, but I was up until 4am after my epic nap yesterday, so it is all good. I did step on the scale today and was under 167! Not much, but at least I am showing a loss finally, instead of a stupid gain!! I am hoping tomorrow morning, for the official weigh in I will be down a little more. Water, water and more water today!!!!

I worth this afternoon, so I get to sit in the very boring office. I hope some clients phone or walk in.

I think I will try and do my "10" minutes on the treadmill before work.

Shell, isn't it amazing how quickly we can get off track if we stop paying attention for one minute!!?? Good for you for getting right back at it today.

Okay, I did 30 minutes on the treadmill with weights in hand! Wow, that was a workout!!

Shell250 01-28-2010 07:40 AM

Awesome Kathie, good job with the "10 minute" workout! ;) lol 30 minutes, plus weights - super!

Thanks for the support! Yes, it is so easy to lose one's mind when busy, sigh...but it was not a complete disaster, so I am happy about that.

I am done my workout too. 20 minutes on the treadmill this morning.

As I have mentioned, several times, I am a cheese addict. So, I picked up some hard parmesean. Really not too bad on calories or fat, and was ultra delicious with my eggs this morning!

(..hopped on the scale yet again today, and still down 2 lb, so I am very excited to track a loss tomorrow!). I must say, darn I feel good today! :D

Have a good day all!

I have weights but I haven't used them while I was on the treadmill. I actually bought them for that but as of right now they are sitting under the treadmill :). I feel like I am going to fling off the thing if I don't hold on LOL. Maybe I will get them out and try them later tonight while finishing off my 2 miles! If you don't hear back from me, you'll know that I broke a leg or something getting catapulted across the room.

Shell, I like your music choices! ;) I use an elliptical machine and read my Kindle. I'm currently reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, about a quarter of the way through. I started Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged but switched. I will switch back to that one sometime, maybe after this book.

It really does pass the time well to be doing something (music, reading, watch TV) while you're exercising, especially on a cardio machine. Sometimes I don't want to stop so I can keep on reading! LOL

Just logging in my workout for the day! 50 minutes of Jillian Micheals' workout. My legs have finally stopped feeling like jello!

And its not guarenteed yet, but go figure after I threw my little scale hissy fit last night, Mom is now offering to buy me a scale tonight. So then I'll have one of my own, get mad at what it says tomorrow morning, and then work on decreasing that number. Yea!

I didn't do good last night or today... I had a piece of Chocolate cake last night AND I had my cheat meal today which was AppleBee's... A bacon Cheeseburger and Fries. It was lunch tho So I plan to eat light for dinner. Tomorrow is the weigh in tell all so we shall see how I did.

The reason I had a piece of cake last night tho is because it was our desert for the week! It was yummy... but the guild followed after I ate it.

I was proud of myself! I actually woke up this morning and worked out before I went to work... which was hard because I had to be at work super early this morning (7:45!) but still... I did it.

I just took a four hour nap and so I will be having a hard time sleeping... but all is well.
