Default Calories!

Is anyone know if 1 800 calories a day for a 42 year old women, 5.3 and 175 lbs now... grrr...

Someone told me to eat 1 800 to maintain my weight and then reduce by 500 to loose 1 lbs a week and 1000 to loose 2 lbs a week... to me is kind of low to live in 800 calories a day like impossible.. i will be starving and probably pass out..!!!!

Instead of counting calories, eat as healthy as possible and move more. Take your time, starvation is counterproductive and results in overeating. I recommend the "Anti-Diet" approach in "How to Become Naturally Thin by Eating More." (Jean Antonello, R.N., B.S.N.) I'm much older than you and this has worked for me for over 20 years and I'm thin without dieting or ever going hungry or overexercising. Best thing I've ever found! Good luck on your search for answers.

Yes it is true that eating 500 cals less each day will mean a loss of 1 pound, but your resting metabolic rate will be much more than 1800 cals a day to maintain.

What I mean is that if you did noting but sit around all day then 1800 will mean no weight loss. But as you move, exercise, walk, shop, talk, live you will increase your enery usage.

Most women who move around an average amount will have a metabolic rate of about 2200 calories. so take 1000 calories from this and you will be able to eat 1200 a day and lose two pounds. the more you move the better this will be.

Fit day has a system for working out what your particular metabolic rate is. just enter your activities and it will tell you. it will be much more than 1800 cals.

I hope i have explained this OK!

I used this calculator to figure my calories and found it very accurate. It takes into account your age and your size, though not your fitness level. I think that's important in light of the post above..."most women...metabolic rate of 2200"...that may be the case for most women, but if I went with that, I wouldn't have lost at all, as I'm pretty short, and as I got closer to my goal weight, I could adjust it for the change in weight.

I just tried the formula in the link above (from Cassie, who you'll notice has been at or below her goal for more than 7 months!) and it was right on for me (44 yrs old, 5'5" 133#)
