Question Diet Drinks are the Debil!

Has anyone else had the problem of retaining excess water after drinking a diet beverage? I always suspected it made me bloaty but I wasn't sure until recently. I hadn't had a diet drink for over a month and in 2 days had a diet rasberry snapple tea and a diet coke. My ankles looked like marshmallows.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Thanks!

In a word, yes!

Not only does the carbonation bloat you up, diet sodas have sodium in them, so it makes sense that you retain the water.

Load up on the water and flush it out . But you probably already knew that.

So, are you from Baltimore ?

DIEt sodas are best avoided. I've finally managed to kick my habit--was a serious DIEt Mt. Dew freak. Now it's coffee in the morning and at least 2 litres of water the rest of the day and that's it.

Good luck kicking the habit!

I too am a recovering Diet Coke-aholic. I used to be able to drink a 2 litre in a day, sometimes more, with ease.

I gave up the sodas entirely over a year ago, at the urging of my husband who had kicked the habit long before me. His argument was that it was not only better for me, but it would help reduce on waste of aluminum & plastic.

So, for someone who never thought she could enjoy the taste of water, it is now my beverage of preference -- straight from the tap! We're lucky to have very tasty water where I live now (Northeast), when I was in the South the tap water was nasty and smelled badly of sulfur. Probably another reason why I avoided it so much then.

So kick the habit if you can! You'll feel much better for it.
