Well, today didn't turn out quite like I planned...was gonna get some weeding done in the gardens. NOT.

Youngest son has a blocked salivary gland by his ear, and I got a call this morning for him to come in for a cat scan. It went fine - but, as is most experiences at a hospital, we were there for a goodly chunk of the day. I had hung out a load of laundry before the call, and had a 2nd load running. So - naturally - it starts raining on the way home from the hospital. Needless to say, spent another chunk of my day at the laundromat drying the 2 loads, and getting a couple in-town tasks done. So, it was a day with minimal calorie burning. :(

We find out tomorrow at his Dr's if he'll need surgery. He is uncomfortable and the area is swollen and very tender. Poor kid. I hope it will be minimally invasive and done soon - better to get it over and done with. 'Specially since he is my resident drama queen, and I am the closest pair of ears he has during the day.

Mike - gorgeous choice on that tile! Loving the colors! We are re-tiling the area under the woodstove in the living room, and will be using riverstone tiles. I'll be posting pix when the room is finished. We had planned on putting in a bamboo floor (floating type), and had ripped up the old yucky carpet in anticipation. But, unexpectedly, finances being what they 'aren't', we will be painting the plywood until the $ situation improves. Not sure how that is gonna look...

Cassie - sometimes, when stress hits like a ton of bricks, a few cookies fitted into the day's calories keep us sane!

Nichaleh - Buying a new book is a MAJOR treat for me! As is allowing myself the time to enjoy it! Good thinking on that 4-hour downtime.

April - isn't great when you glimpse the man your son will grow into? And, regarding the redness 'round the 'tat - let's face it - when getting a tat, you are traumatizing the tissue under the skin - and it takes time to heal. Not everyone understands that. As long as you know it isn't infected, never mind what others say.

Mern - I agree with April - I wish my kids' grandma was a bit more like you. I love my mom, but she is NOT the sort for take the kids shopping for anything!

Nobe - Allow yourself the time to breathe in the quiet around you - troll free!

ichalk2up & frenchhen3 - Welcome to the neighborhood! Join us for a cuppa and some chat!

Tori - you are merciless, girl! Cracks me up!

Kayla - Don't know how you do all you do! Just great on the #'s!

Tracey - Keep in mind it's only a blip in the greater realm of things - and yes, you will prevail!

Well, gotta go figure out supper - will pop in later to post #s and such.

Mern 08-14-2012 11:04 AM

Haven't had time to read all the posts--just quickly skimmed.

Cassie, good job holding the calories down after baking cookies.

Mike, the tile DOES look great.

Judi, one of my grandkids (can't remember which one) had an INFECTED salivary gland once that made his/her face swell up. It got cleared up with antibiotics. I hope the solution to your little one's problem is easily corrected, too.

Thanks to all for your kudos on my good weight loss last week. :)

We have special circumstances with our grandkids. I have babysat all four of our daughter's kids since they were infants. As a single parent she and the kids lived with us while she attended school full time and worked two part time jobs (and still made the Dean's List :) ) so DH and I have always been very close to our grandkids. They live only four miles away (except for the college age one who lives with us) so our lives are still very much intertwined. So, long story short, doing stuff with them is just part of our lifestyle--nothing special except I hope that after we're gone they'll have some fond memories and that they will be sure to make memories with their own grandkids one day.

I have more catching up to do with the thread, but right now I'm really beat. I did a lot of physical labor today lifting, hoisting, carrying heavy boxes from the top floor to the bottom of our tri-level house. Trying to give live-in GD more room in the closet where I had Christmas decorations and other things stored. But in order to do that, I first had to clear out some unneeded stuff I had stored on the lower level and I had to carry all those things up to the main level for recycling. I felt guilt-free counting that as exercise because I was sweating buckets and huffing and puffing. :)

I didn't log yesterday or today--not sure how my calories were, but cholesterol, protein, sat fat, should have been OK. And my eating was clean. Back to logging tomorrow and that's a promise.

judipurple 08-14-2012 01:05 PM

Mern, this cracked me up:

I hope the solution to your little one's problem is easily corrected, too.

Thank you for the kind thought - the 'little one' part -:D he was little. once.;) he is a fire hydrant with legs! (17 y.o.) - Actually, both my boys are quite, um, large. But, thanks - we have an appt tomorrow to see what's next.

Hey everybody. I hope you guys had an awesome day. I started off great, but then I got attacked by the boredom monster. I ended up wasting gas that I shouldn't have driving all the way to my Mom's house and back. I only stayed for about 2 hours, but I guess it was better than staying home and eating out of boredom. Also, we bought Norah her first potty today. I was so excited. I was planning to follow my Mom's advice, and just take her with me when I go to the bathroom and let her sit on her potty and eventually she'll get it. Well, she sat on it for about a nanosecond, got up, walked across the room, and peed on the floor. Fail. My Mom assured me that potty training is not a complete failure because she didn't get it on her first try, but really?! If she had stayed on for 10 more seconds! Anyway, here are my #'s for today. I got in 45 minutes of cardio, and 100 reps each of 4 different arm strengthening and toning moves. :)

1) Stay within calorie limits. Yes, 916.
2) Get 4 workouts done. M-Y. T-Y.
3) Keep carbs @or under 33%. 23%!!!!
4) Get to bed by 10:30. Yes.
5) Drink more water! Yes.

Other:
1) Wedding planning. Yes.
2) Stick with budget, and STOP OVERSPENDING! Yes.

Judi, I'm sorry to hear about your son, I hope he feels better soon. It is no fun when kids are sick.

Mern, I think going up and down those stairs all day with heavy boxes definitely counts. I logged all my box carrying activities when I was moving, and didn't think twice. Calories are calories!

Ok, I am going to bed. I was up at 6 am, and will be again tomorrow. Also, tomorrow may be a bit of a lost cause as I am going to lunch with my grandparents from out of town, and after all of my potentially healthy suggestions, they decided on a Chinese Buffet. We shall see how that goes. Goodnight all!

My diet has sucked because I've been super busy. It under 800 calories for the day and nearly 3000 calories deficient for today. I hope tomorrow to have more time to eat right. I'm about 90% done with the grout and damn my back is screaming at me!!!

ichalk2up 08-14-2012 10:31 PM

Thanks all for the welcome! You all are such an inspiration. I have a few challenges myself to overcome, but can already see why i am struggling to drop the weight. I'm newly type 2 diabetic and have to watch my carbs. Trying to eat enough calories without the carbs is incredibly hard. Its so easy to see why my metabolism is so poor . . . i do not eat enough and there's barely any exercise in my day to day. No fuel and no activity! Definitely have my work cut out for me!!

wildbeanerz 08-15-2012 12:39 AM

1. 100 oz water daily M: Yes, T: Yes,
2. Walk on lunch 3 times M: 2miles, T: went shopping instead,
3. Exercise 3 times minimum (nights work too April!) M: No, T: No,
4. 5 Fruits / Veggies daily M: Yes, T: Yes,
5. Weigh and post it M: 230.8lbs, T: 229.8lbs, W: 229.0lbs,

Life Goals ...
1. Keep paperwork caught up M: Yes, T: Yes,
2. Get ready for camp M: worked on the list, T: shopped twice,
3. Don't stress about what I can't control M: Yes, T: Doing my best,

Another no exercise day for me :( I am just not feeling it. I am tired. I know that if I would just do it, I would still be tired but at least I would have worked out and then be tired instead of sitting around and still being tired. I just need to find my motivation. I am really in need of the 4 day vacay that I have coming starting Friday. We are headed into the mountains to go camping again. Sunday night it sounds like another couple and at least 2 of their kids (12 & 4) will be joining us for the night in a tent on our site. Should be a blast! We always have a good time with them.

Judi ... Thanks for the encouragement on my tattoo. Everyone just seems to think that it should be perfect and beautiful already. It's only 9 days old and yeah it's getting kinda scabby. I am not letting it dry out. I think part of the reason for the slow heal is how intricate the design was followed by large solid areas and the position of it on my ankle too. Oh well...everyone has an opinion ;)

Nobe ... Since you are not currently working would you like to take your powerwashing on the FitDay tour and come to each of our houses for a few days?

Kayla ... At least you did something to prevent boredom eating.

Mern ... I still love how you are with your grandkids. I know you think it is nothing special, but really...it is. :)

ichalk2up ... Welcome to the group! With careful planning you can help to reverse your diabetes before it becomes a real problem.

frenchhen3 08-15-2012 01:39 AM

Wow everyone has such a lot going on! Praying for all who need prayers in health, potty training, safe vacations, clapping for tile, clapping for reached objectives, this is all so good.

Eat with awareness. No "Mindless" eating!: M! T(so-so)
64 + oz water per day: M! T
12,000 steps per day, 5 days this week : 13760,13875,

I Chalk- I don't know if your doctor or nutritionist has suggested any books to read for your diabetes. I read a book called "The New Glucose Revolution" it is geared toward folks who have diabetes, but it is also a good book for anyone who is into nutrition and better health. Reading it helped me understand how the body uses what you give it for food, how it is converted to energy in the body and how to eat to keep blood sugar stable.

I actually kind of love cleaning when it's normal dirt and not troll dirt. I'm on my way!

catebert 08-15-2012 04:28 AM

Hey everyone,

I was unable to post yesterday due to a very busy day here at work, and not being able to login to fitday from home. Kept getting an error (Yup posted it in the Fitday support section, with Nicaleh's - my error was similar to hers)

My goals this week - so far failing miserably on calories, carbs are up but not outrageous, but I did exercise this week! If I can login later from home I will post #'s.

I'm excited and newly motivated bcos my sister, 2 years younger than I and 20 lbs. lighter has decided to lose some weight - she is going to a wedding at the end of Sept. and wants to look good, so I now have a diet buddy and we are sharing motivational quotes, articles and recipes!

Mern, I found a recipe for flourless chocolate cake! It is made with egg whites - as soon as I figure out the sugarless angle I will post it in the low-carb recipes thread.

Have a great day everyone!

Welcome to our corner of the forums! I am also type 2 and watching my carbs. I just had my 3-month A1c and my blood sugar has gone from 16.5 to 9 in just over 2 months since starting this program. If you eat adequate protein and fat you will not be hungry - I will eat avocado & shrimp salad or tuna salad with mayo on a bed of lettus for breakfast - omelets are also good. Salad and pork chop or steak, tuna salad, hard boiled eggs for lunch, and protein with a side of veggies for dinner. I don't exercise much as I have a disability, but I am just starting to do some walking and stretching exercises these days. It's hard but we can do it!! (I did a yoga stretch video on Monday and boy, am I out of shape!!)

Just wanted you to know you're not alone and we're here if you have any questions or just want some company that understands where you are.:)

I too have recently been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic. I have the same problem as you eating enough calories and still be able to keep within my carb limit. I'm also on low protein diet so my carbs are always over the limit--not by much. Everywhere I look online a low carb diet is replaced by protein.

As for exercise start off slowly at first.
Good luck:)

kayla.underhill 08-15-2012 07:32 AM

Hey everybody! I am having a good day in every area except exercise!!! I even managed to conquer the buffet without much damage, and got my house cleaned, but I can't make myself get on my bike. I will either make myself do it, or make this my day off this week... I'll let ya know later, I hope the suspense doesn't kill you. :p

traceymc1985 08-15-2012 07:52 AM

Hi all- 3 days in a row and im keping within calories. Done much better at mealtimes and not cooked so much that i will have loads leftover. Tv snacking has been minimum and alot less calories than before.
Spent all day cleaning the house to keep me busy as i wasnt going anywhere in the heavy rain and its my first day without rushing about. Funnily enough cleaning helps keep me relaxed. Drinking my water now whislt watching tv. Ive been telling myself that i will wake up alot happier if i dont eat alot each night and its true. I dont feel guilty eating breakfast then and the day goes more smoothly.

Mern 08-15-2012 11:30 AM

OMG, I'm behind like 55 posts. Gonna try to get caught up today.

ichalk2up, welcome! So glad to have you with us. I agree with Nichaleh on the best tip--mine, too, would be to log everything. I weigh and measure everything--if you don't have one, I'd strongly recommend investing in a food scale. I got mine for only like $20 which included shipping and handling. I'm a low carber, too--reversed my pre-diabetes to normal blood sugar with a low carb diet and no meds. I do 25g net carbs per day with my doctor's supervision--total grams carbs less grams of fiber which you probably know are carbs that minimally impact blood sugar. I have a blood test (fasting blood glucose plus A1C) every three months to be sure my blood sugar is still normal (total grams carbs less grams of fiber which you probably know are carbs that minimally impact blood sugar). Most of my carbs come from low carb veggies (the green, non-starchy ones) but I do allow myself a 5 net carb low carb tortilla almost daily. Eating a lot of low carb veggies helps one get in the calories while getting plenty to eat. I also use Walker Diet Protein Shake Mix at only 1 net carb per serving--helps fill me up, especially if I add ground flaxmeal to it. As far as I know, vitacost.com is the sole distributor of that shake mix. It's loaded with nutrition. I agree with Frenchhen on the importance of blood sugar stability--both for health and as an aid in weight loss. I also agree with Cate that if you eat adequate protein and fat you will not be hungry.

Nichaleh, I hope your car is all fixed up now. Kudos on all the walking--even slow walking burns calories. I've heard it said that the time is more important than the speed anyway. My doc tells me 1/2 an hour five days a week, so 2 1/2 hours is fantastic!

Frenchhen, I love your goal of eating with awareness. I, too, am a firm believer in prayer--yes, even for potty training--moreso for the comfort and patience for the mother than for the quick mastery of dry undies. I also agree with you totally on the need to keep blood sugar stable--more healthful for us, PLUS the stability helps us in the weight loss process.

Judi, how's the Primal eating going? Nice goals this week! Kudos on giving up the protein bar Monday after dinner since you were happy with your numbers. Oh, that WAS funny. 17 years old isn't a little one. My "little ones" are ages 35 and 33. LOL

April 5-6 hours of cleaning and laundry plus 3 hours with the hedge trimmer is a lot of calorie burning. Kudos on that. I hope you enjoy your camping this coming weekend! Oh, that's so cool that you inspired your new friend--husband's work buddy's wife. It is hard for me to exercise with anyone because of hardships of having the time when the potential exercise buddy does, so I do better alone. I just have too many things to do in a day an can't adhere to a strict enough schedule. Aw, that's so nice that you enjoyed the cookout and your 15 year old helping entertain the 5 year old. :) Your Monday and Tuesday reports are fabulous! Don't be down on yourself much on the exercise! You walked two miles Monday and walked when shopping Tuesday--AND I see that scale is contintuing to show lower numbers! Thanks for your comments on my grandkids. You are so sweet. Right now, though, I'm catching up with this thread while my DH took the two youngest grandkids to the roller skating rink. I love them, but would rather twist off my big toe than tolerate the blaring music at the skating rink, so I let him do that. LOL

Kayla, that takes a lot of willpower to not hang onto the leftover pizza. Who's wedding are you planning? I guess it's good everyone is different--keeps away a lot of boredom--although I can't say I find all this danged food logging, weighing, and measuring entertaining. :p How's it going breaking up your exercise into three sessions? Such exciting times coming up-new job plus going back to school. My very best wishes on all that. Your Chicken Parmesan with Spinach sounded yummy. Unless your doctor advised you otherwise, don't jump from 33% carbs to 50% all at once. I can't imagine eating that many carbs, either--mine is closer to 10% and my doc thinks 25g per day is plenty for me. How many grams of carbs does your doc think is right for you? That may be a better guideline. If you do up your carbs, I would suggest adding only 5g at a time and keeping it at that for a few days to give your body time to adjust to the additional sugars so it doesn't react with a weight gain. See how your scale reacts before adding the next 5 grams. And if you're gonna add carbs, go for more green veggies or whole grains rather than bread, cereal, sweets. Oh, the joys of potty training. I'm with your Mom on that one--don't sweat it. My kids did the same thing--no sooner than they got up they'd wet or soil their training pants. Norah will get it when she's ready. :) Kudos on your exercise. And thanks for your encouragement on mine, whether formal or not. OMG, I love Chinese. I hope you had a lovely visit with your grandparents. Kudos on conquering the buffet without much damage! That's self-control!!! Got a good chuckle out of your bike exercise--will you do it or will you make it your day off. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the answer! LOL Actually, I wound up making MONDAY one of my two days off exercise--hate that beause now I have to exercise 5 days in a row to take off exercise Sunday which is also the day of my DH's family reunion picnic.

Tracey, kudos on facing up to your 2 lb. gain. I'm up a pound and don't know why but I'm just going to keep on doing what I've BEEN doing and I know it'll come off. You know what you need to do and how to do it--by the end of this week I'll bet you'll have shed some or all of the regain. :) My biggest temptation, too, is even snacking. I strive to pre-log a healthful snack, but I don't always stick to that. Ouchie on the toy falling on your head! Sometimes stuff like that is enough to make a grown woman cry! You're doing a great job, I see by your report today! Three days in a row keeping within calories, doing better at mealtimes, planning for minimal leftovers. MAJOR kudos on the TV snacking being under better control! You sound like my little sister who gets relaxation out of cleaning. I just can't grasp that concept. LOL I agree breakfast is really important--especially having protein for breakfast for energy and aid in weight loss.

Cassie, as always, thanks so much for your encouragement.

Cate, I do hope you can create some ME time. So important for one's physical health and sanity! How'd your exercise DVDs go? I love Denise Austin's soft voice. Wonderful that your sis is your new diet buddy! Best wishes to her, too. Looking forward to the low carb flourless chocolate cake recipe! Low cholesterol, too, with the egg whites! Yum! Ooh, major kudos on getting your blood sugar down from 16.9 to 9 in just over two months!

Nobe, must have been awful for your husband witnessing that car crash. I hope you finally got some ME time after doing all that housework, going to your Mom's and getting kiddo in bed. Great reports for Monday and Tuesday! Way to go!

Mike and Tori, you two crack me up. I did get a good idea from your banter, though. I'm playing around with a low carb almond torte recipe and now am thinking about getting some rum extract to use in place of the vanilla. Can't get the real thing but I used to love rum balls (like bourbon balls) and rum in cakes, egg nog, fruit cake, etc.

Mike, I do hope you can get back to healthful eating soon. But I understand--when I get really busy on a project I have good intentions of making myself stop to eat, but I don't always follow through.

kayla.underhill 08-15-2012 01:50 PM

Hello all! Well, I ended up making it my day off. Which I later regretted because today was apparently John's last day at work for this week, and I hate working out with him home. So I probably won't until Saturday. However, I think I may go for a run in the morning. Anyway, here are my #'s for today.

1) Stay within calorie limits. Yes, 945.
2) Get 4 workouts done. M-Y. T-Y. W-N.
3) Keep carbs @or under 33%. 30%
4) Get to bed by 10:30. Yes.
5) Drink more water! Yes.

Other:
1) Wedding planning. Yes.
2) Stick with budget, and STOP OVERSPENDING! Yes.

Mern, I am planning my wedding. The big day is next June and I hope to lose about 30lbs before then. I am actually really loving breaking my exercise up. It is easier to fit into my day, because its only about 15-20 minutes at a time, and it is supposed to keep you metabolism up all day. I haven't made the jump up to 50% carbs, it just seems too drastic. Norah is getting better with the potty, when I say "lets go potty" she yells her version of the word "potty" and runs to the restroom. I'll call that progress. :) I also hate when I mess up my exercise schedule by skipping a day. That's exactly what I did today.

Tracey, I am with you on the breakfast thing. I was never ever a breakfast eater. But I have started "closing my kitchen" at 8 pm and not opening it again until 7 am, and it has me just about starving when I wake up in the morning. It only took about 3 weeks for it to become an essential part of my routine.

Cate, I'm glad you found a buddy! I loved having my sister as a diet buddy, but she wasn't quite ready and it won't click for her until she is. So I'll have to wait and just be there for her when she is ready.

Ok everybody, I'm gonna go give Norah a bath and put myself in bed. Going running in the morning!! Goodnight!

Mern 08-15-2012 02:26 PM

Didn't log, Monday and Tuesday but know from experience I was pretty well on target, so I'm counting those days as YES if I'm sure it was on target even though I don't have exact numbers and blue if it's "iffy."

Wednesday Report:
Exercise 5 days day off, Informal, YES
Water 64 oz. YES, YES, YES
Clean Eating YES, YES, NO
Calorie limit 1500 YES, YES, 1112
Sat Fat average 11% OK, OK, 13%
Net carbs YES, YES, 26.1g
Fiber Average YES, YES, 40g
Protein average 120g YES. YES, 103g
Cholesterol limit average 250mg YES, YES, 107g

kayla.underhill 08-15-2012 02:38 PM

Ok, I had to get back on to edit my report. I did get on my bike for a 30 minute interval ride while John was putting Norah to bed. Now I don't have to run in the morning, but I might anyway. :) Goodnight everyone!

Judi-someone has to keep Mike in line, and I take pride in my calling :)

Hunny24 08-15-2012 02:40 PM

Hey everyone. Well had some crazy stomach thing the last two days and it kicked my ass. So needless to say, running was not in the cards for me. But will be getting out there tomorrow night for another 2-3 miles hopefully. I really need to get my gym membership back so I can start lifting as well. Getting back into a steady routine is key. Since I will be back to work in a month, getting things started now before the craziness of work happens has to be a priority.

I've been trying to find a babysitter for the two kids at home three days a week since both our mom's will be watching them the other days. We had my daughter in daycare but they only take kids 15 months and older. Plus I really do not like the idea of a newborn in daycare. My almost 3 year old always gets sick but at least she can handle it. Anyone decent we have talked to already accepted another position or can't do it the days we need. So just getting worried about not finding anyone in time.

Oh well...can't stress over that too much. Time to get to bed before I am up again to feed the little guy. Have a good night everyone!

ToriD1012 08-15-2012 02:54 PM

Mike is unable to post his goal update because he is still computerless (haHA I made a new word). So he asked me to do it for him. I'll be nice and actually post the real numbers :p

Kayla, great job on getting on the bike anyway. I hope you can find time to enjoy your exercise even with John being home. Do you not like for John to see you work out? I used to be self-conscious about it, but not anymore. I hope you get in your run Thursday. Great job today! Keep up the good work. Aw, that's great-I figured it was probably your own wedding you were planning. What have you got planned (besides June) for your wedding? I did not know that breaking up the exercise is good to keep the metabolism up all day. Makes sense, but I don't think I'd have the willpower--already have to force myself to exercise at all. So cute about Norah and the potty. :)

Tori, drink up tomorrow! Oops--I forgot my supplements all day! Thanks for the reminder--I'll take my evening ones as soon as I'm done here. LOL on keeping Mike in line--but he seems to keep YOU in line, too. :p Aw, you're really sweet to post Mikes numbers for him. Must be hard to resist the temptation to exaggerate some numbers since he's computerless. LOL

Mike, nice job on the water and walking!

Hunny, I take it you're feeling a bit better now. Kudos on your plans to get back to the gym. Aw, I hope you get your babysitting worked out. I hope you get some good rest before that first night feeding and special alone-time bonding. :)

calories <1600 - 1487, 1530, 1937
water >64oz - 64oz+, 64oz+, 64oz
protein >20% - 28%, 25%, 19%
take vitamins - yes, yes, yes
move - bit of cleaning and gardening, long walk/finished powerwashing the outside of the house and windows, not much of anything

SOOOO hot today. It's 9pm and it's still 90 degrees in the house. That's really unusual for here; usually in the summer it's in the 70's. Could barely move all day; I didn't even water my plants (which is probably the worst day to not water them, I know). I was doing ok for food until I stopped in the grocery store for a BBQ chicken to have a cold supper. Pasta salad from the deli was on sale. Chocolate chip cookies were calling my name. I managed to only buy a single cookie and then I ate a huge pile of pasta salad with my chicken breast (and had some more directly out of the container a few minutes ago). Then we had to stop at my mom's and I was offered a beer. I haven't had alcohol in a few years, but I was so hot and miserable that I drank it. And it hit the spot, but ugh. And there's no sign of the heat going away. I am NOT exercising in this, no way no how. My kind of summer is when it gets warm enough that I start thinking about taking off my cardigan.

Thanks! (although today's not so good). Hubby was shaken, but the kiddo seems the most upset - he saw the police doing chest compressions and heard everyone talking about what was going on. He got a new Sesame Street bus yesterday and ever since has been talking about how the bus is going to crash just like the man crashed. Yikes. We keep trying to tell him that the man is ok, but he's confused.

A lady stopped us in the store tonight and said "weren't you on the news? Everyone's talking about it; you saved his life!" so that made hubby pretty happy.

Mern, I am quite self conscious about working out when he is here. I haven't decided if it is because I was in much better shape when we met (I played softball and ran track and was a size 5), and I'm embarrassed at my drop in stamina. Or if it is because I have seen myself after a workout (sweaty and messy hair and make-up and whatnot) and I know that it isn't very attractive. Either way, I will have to get over it at some point. My general plan is to keep working to build up my stamina and eventually I won't have anything to be embarrassed about anymore. We have actually planned several things for the wedding. I am going with my Mom to look at our venue on Friday, hopefully the last one we have to tour. We have a general color and theme laid out. I don't think theme is the right word, it is not a "theme" wedding. But our decorations will be lace and mason jars and twinkle lights, and our colors are cream, tan, and rose dust. That might be more of a mood. I'm not sure. We have a baker and a photographer picked out. Right now our big conundrum is the dinner, so if any already married people have any advice about a relatively easy, relatively inexpensive dinner for about 100 people, that would be greatly appreciated.
Also, as far as the willpower thing I have gotten into the habit of giving myself teeny rewards every time I work out. For example, tonight's workout (which ended up being 30 minute bike ride and 20 minutes of ab work) earned me 20 guilt free minutes on Pinterest, and the right to turn off my alarm clock for tomorrow morning. :)

Hunny, I know just what you mean about babysitting. My Norah went into daycare when she was about 8 months old and it broke my heart. Before that she had only been cared for by John's grandmother. I hope you find a way to work it out. I am still in search of a "grandmotherly" figure to keep my baby, but I am terrified of private babysitters.

Mern 08-16-2012 01:31 AM

Nobe, I'm sorry for your miserably hot day! 90 degrees in the house would make me literally ill--I can't take heat. I don't blame you at all for not exercising. Looks to me like you did well with eating the BBQ chicken, pasta salad, cookies and beer and holding it down to just 1937 calories. I think you should give yourself credit for a controlled cheat--especially for ordering just one cookie. :) How old did you say kiddo is? Three? I'll bet with your reassurance when he brings it up the accident, he'll soon move on to other ways of playing with his bus. Level-headed quick thinkers do saves lives. DH's being on the news may inspire others to act quickly and save a life someday--you know--like "don't just be a spectator--act to help!" Kudos to your DH.

Kayla, I totally understand where you're coming from on not wanting him to see you exercising. DH and I have been married for 41 years so it's easier for me to not be self conscious even though I have sweat dripping off my hair and face when I'm done, but I must say I WAS embarrassed in January of 2011 to have a walking stamina of only 5 minutes--now it's 30-40 with a bad back and huge belly. Great idea to reward yourself for your exercise--especially simple, non-food rewards. I love your colors for the wedding. :) I can't help you on the dinner, but I'm sure you'll get plenty suggestions here.

Hi Everyone!

Just popping in quickly to say, "hello!" Life has been extremely chaotic and crazy and it may not let up a whole lot until after Labor Day. I had written a long post, but it was "eaten" by the Fitday gremlin.

In short, I haven't been logging and I'm sure that I will pay the price on the scale when life calms down. But, that's ok; I know what to do. I can't wait until after Labor Day when my life will be calmer and more structured. Doing a lot of stress eating, fast-food eating and cooking high-calorie "treats" with the bounty of fruits and veggies. Did you know that fresh, wholesome, nutrient-filled zucchini can be made into a 500 calorie/piece cobbler?? lol ;)

Kayla,
I've had experience with doing receptions and I have a few ideas. The first one that comes to mind when you have a relatively small guest list, is an evening candlelight wedding, say 7 pm, followed by an elegant champagne/hors d'oeuvres reception. If done right, it blows normal weddings out of the water for class, elegance, and romance. The most beautiful ones that I have attended were in the fall or winter when it gets dark relatively early, but it would work any time of the year. (Lots of candlelight, white lights, fountains etc.) You'll get high marks for class, elegance and creativity while saving big $$$ by not falling over a meal time. People get tired of going to the "same old wedding" time after time and enjoy something different and unique. If done right, there will be tons of food at half the cost.

Judi,
Hope your son is doing better. No matter how big our kids get, they are still our "babies", right? ;)

Hi Mern!
Will your GD be living with you while attending college? If so, that's an awesome way to cut down on costs. She's a lucky girl!

Mike,
I love the tile... are you available for hire?? ;) Just come during the winter when I can get you up on snow shoes or down hill skis! lol Hope you didn't over do it with your back.

Nobe,
Congrats on reclaiming your home and your life! I hope to do the same soon as well... lol. You have more patience than I, that's for sure. Now you have me hungry for deli chicken! lol

April,
I hear you on "just not feeling it". I'm right there with you. I'm going to just try to eat clean and avoid calorie counting until it passes. You've been doing great... don't worry. You'll get your motivation back. :)

Well, off to the shower then to do errands... check in with y'all later!

quinn

Will continue to post numbers for the days, but life threw me a major curveball yesterday, and not sure I'm up for the more social side of this thread. Don't know what's gonna happen next, but I will keep on tracking the #s and getting in my walks. I will be lurking, and want you all to know I will be cheering right along with you, or providing virtual kleenex when needed, even though I may not post. When things settle down, I'll be back regularly.

Yesterday's #s

Calories: 1,465 Fats: 86.3 carbs: 72.4 Proteins: 101.8

The curveball was marital.

My youngest son got the word back that there was no blockage in the salivary gland, but likely has an infection. He's doing well on antibiotics.

This really sucks! I have giant hives all over the back of my legs (up where they meet my ass). They are starting on my elbows and one on my middle finger (left hand). I have had them like this one other time and it was also for no explainable reason. I haven't eaten or changed anything recently. They itch so much. I have taken 50mg of benadryl at 6:30pm, 10:30pm & 7:30am so far. When 11:30 gets here I'll take it again. I made an appointment to see my doctor at 1:15 on my lunch break. I don't care if he has to give me a shot of something. I need them gone! How can I go enjoy camping when I'm itching to death?

I had terrible poison ivy a few years back and the doc gave me a cortisone shot and a steroid pack...cleared it right up. I hope they find a solution for you, quick!

Hope to get back a bit later to catch up. Another work crisis, down a doc again, and so logging and good habits fell apart the past two days :(. Back on the wagon I go!

Judi, good news on your son, and so sorry to hear life threw you a curve. Here's to hoping that you can get through it quickly and with few scars. {{Hugs}} and hopes that things will work out okay for you.

wildbeanerz 08-16-2012 06:16 AM

Hives update ... They are still there. Maybe a little less inflamed than they were. But I have smaller ones on my elbows, knees & hands now too and one stubborn one trying to form on my eyelid (GRRR!). Went to the doctor and he said there is no known cause for them and no reason to search for a cause unless they are reoccurring and medicine doesn't work on them. He said to stop the benadryl since I am so sleepy and use claritin instead. I have to take it for 2 weeks straight even if they go away tomorrow still take it. If they aren't gone after 2 weeks just keep taking the claritin until they are gone. He also looked at my tattoo and said that everyone is wrong. It is not infected. It is a little drier than it should be but to put antibiotic cream on and that will solve that. I told him the reason for the tat and he checked his records and in his computer my weight was 328 last I was there. We had a nice discussion about losing weight slowly being beneficial to my health in the long run and how losing too quickly is rarely sustainable. I mentioned to him the BMI chart and that I don't want to look like a stick. His only comment was that if I am eating right and exercising then my body will become the size that it should be on it's own. It's a side effect of living healthy. :)

Mern 08-16-2012 07:24 AM

Quinn, welcome home! Well, we know you can afford to indulge in some high cal treats until after Labor Day and then you will quickly get back down to where you want to be on the scale. Yeah, you can take just about any fruit or veggie and add tons of butter and sugar to make it devilishly calorie laden. LOL Yes, live-in GD will continue to live here at least until she finishes her bachelor's degree. She has only a 15-20 minute drive to college the first two years and then the second two years she must switch to the main campus which is about a 35 minute drive.

Judi, hoping the antibiotics clear up your son's salivary gland infection quickly. It did for my grandchild. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you on your other issue. Big cyberhug to ya.

Mern 08-16-2012 07:47 AM

April, kudos on all the blue in your report and on still being down on the scale on Thursday despite all the hives which must be adding a little water weight. Glad you got to the doc for your no known cause hives. I hope the Claritin works as quickly as the Benadryl would. Two weeks straight surprised me, though--I thought it would be just until they're gone. I wonder if there was something you kicked up in those forsythia bushes you were trimming. Glad your tat is OK. Your weightloss is just awesome. My doc would hold you up as an icon to me because your eating right and exercising is causing your body to head wonderfully, effectively, and safely toward the size it should be on its own--yup "the side effect of living healthy." :)

Cassie, hi. We all understand how hard it is to log and post when your workload increases. Best wishes for relief from the hassle.

Well hello Quinniepoo. I don't plan on doing tile any time soon. Never may be too soon.

Here's an updated pic.

Personally, I would recommend an army surplus tank or an armored Hummer paired with a full-face helmet, but that's just my opinion... LOL ;)

Cassie, Thanks. Are y'all looking for a new or used car? What are the options that y'all are deadlocked on?

Definitely used.

The deadlock is that I have an 11-year-old car with 200K+ miles that we are already planning on replacing at the end of this year. My husband thinks our son should have that. Which makes perfect sense, except...it's a minivan. I don't like that it's cumbersome for him, can hold a ton of people (teens ), and of course, there is the dork factor. My preference would be to trade that in and find something old enough to be cheap but new enough to have safety features like airbags and stability control. High miles don't bother me too much, depending on the make.
