Hi girls! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! Last night I went out to dinner with some friends and family. I asked for some advice here and decided it was ok to 'splurge' one night. I am...errr WAS..down 33 pounds. I couldn't look online at the menu before I went because the restaurant doesn't have a websit, but I knew some of the items they had. I decided to order steak and shrimp. It came with potato and rice, which I knew. I had planned all of this into my food log, so I ate pretty light yesterday. I ended up eating my steak, mushrooms and shrimp. I was sooo looking forward to the potato and rice, but after a bite of each I decided I really didn't want it. Not because I was freaking about the carbs and calories, but mainly because I didn't LIKE the taste of it so much. However, I did LOVE the garlic bread. And instead of eating half a slice like I had planned, I ate 2 large pieces. Sigh. Naughty. But, I did it, can't undo it and refuse to give up because of it. I dropped one egg, but I'm not going to drop the other 11. :)
Unfortunately, when I weighed myself this morning I am up 1 lb. Not sure why. Could be a fluke, could be the garlic bread, could be water weight (I notice my feet are more swollen), could be the fact that it was a crazy weekend with little sleep. I don't know. But, as much as it sucks to be UP, I know that I can get back DOWN. And I'm not going to see it as a failure, just a bump in the road. I slacked majorly in the exercise department last week. I worked late every night, my step-daughter had prom, I had to go out of town for a meeting and just didn't make time like I should have for exercise. Today is a new day, and it's time to hop back on the exercise band wagon. Has anyone tried any of the Biggest Loser workouts? I am going to start doing that today. Hopefully it helps tone and lose weight as much as it says. :) If anyone has any other bits of advice they want to share on how they deal with making time for exercise, I would appreciate it! :) Have a good Sunday! Thanks for listening (again!) and the support. Somehow knowing I can come on here to vent makes all the difference. I am actually starting to feel like I can conquer this battle. |
The missing link
Hi Everyone,
I joined Fitday awhile ago but never really used it. I've been a dieting dabbler for most of my adult life mostly because I 'knew' I should care more about my weight...but I really didn't. That's all about to change. I weighed myself this morning and I have reached a lifetime high of 250 lbs. Most importantly, though, is that I haven't been exercising for almost 2 years. In the past I would have always described myself as one of those 'fit fat people'. I have always been super active and had a great baseline level of fitness. Well....those days are over. While I don't care too much about how I look I really do care about how I feel physically.....and I feel miserable! I can't dabble anymore with my diet and health. I need to commit to making a change. I just read most of the posts in this Thread and they are so honest and inspiring! I'd like to jump in and hopefully share some of this incredible support, sharing and caring that I've been reading. I think social support for this type of journey is critical to staying on track. Thanks for reading! I look forward to getting to know you all :) |
Sounds like a couple of us had a zig-up weekend. I know I did. My hometown is famous for it's Maple Syrup, this past weekend was the annual "Maple Syrup Festival". The kids really enjoy it, and DH LOVES maple syrup. Anyway, my parents are very involved in the planning and launching of the festival, and so we end up sucked into helping with one thing or another every year. And if you know anything about small town festivals, then you already know they say "thanks" with food. I swear we got free eats just about everywhere we went, and it's a syrup festival so every option is carbs, fried with butter and dripping in pure sugar. It's all yummy, and it's all bad for a fat girl to be sure. I'm proud of myself for not going over the top. Yesterday the only thing I had that was off my plan was 2 small pancakes, with about 2 TBL of maple syrup on top. Real maple syrup is very different from the grocery store corn syrup variety, but it's very carb heavy. I skipped the carnival fries, the elephant ears and the maple cotton candy. I also didn't buy any divinity, which is a new record. And when I was offered some divinity for free I politely declined.
ddwilder, welcome to the thread. I find this group very inspiring as well. I'm cracking up over you calling yourself a "fit fat person", I used to be exactly that. I have a couple of very skinny sister-in-laws and they would always be shocked that I could out last them on the dance floor at wedding receptions and such. Being in shape and being skinny are not necessarily the same thing. I started at 244 so I've stood in that same place your in, not all that long ago, and I felt the same way - miserable. Not because I didn't look good, but because I didn't feel good and could not keep up with my life at all. amylee32, sorry to hear that your up a little. One pound is not a big deal, almost sounds like you might have gotten too much sodium in your dinner out. Garlic bread can be really high in sodium, you might try upping your water intake for a couple of days. That always helps me. pattialbert, I'm so glad to hear that you stopped yourself mid cookie and realized what you were doing. That's a big step in the right direction. You need a pedometer, so we can compare notes. Actually you don't need one to figure out how many steps you take in a mile. Just measure your stride, take 10-12 strides along a tape measure and then divide the distance by the number of steps you took. Then divide 3 miles by your stride length. Chili sounds good, it's rained here most of the day. Gotta go, honey is home and we have to go pick up the kiddos. |
boot camp
I feel dead... totally drained. My muscles can barely move. I did a 90 minute boot camp work out. I am going to go back, but good lawd! Weights, glutes, abs, back, arms, legs, lunges... I am not sure, but I think she even worked out my eye lids. There isn't a place to count this on FD, so I just claimed calistenics (sp?) with vigorous effort.

I think as a group we're particularly honest with each other. I've honestly posted my weight here, and until I did that I hadn't actually told another living soul just how high that number had gotten. It was actually quite refreshing to come clean. Desertmountain I dont know if you watch biggest loser but they gave that exact advice two weeks ago. They gave an example and I cant remember the exact plan but it was like 2 days of higher calorie eating,,3 days of lower calories, and 2 days of moderate calories...something like that. Now if your like me and tend to eat more on weekends this works perfectly! *IF* if works,,,havnt tried it but sounds doable. I think Im going to make some of that good chili today..it was so hot here last week but has cooled right down and will be cooler this week so its a good time to make it. Its such a good go to meal when I dont feel like cooking. have a great week everyone~~~ waving hi to everyone passing thru!! Let us know what results you get if or when you decide to try the ZigZag thing. I'm going to keep it up until it either doesn't work or I want too many high cal days LOL...I mean I love getting to splurge on higher cal ingredients those days. |

Thanks for the compliment about getting your inspiration here...thats so nice to hear!! There is no health food store here unfortunatly, but the grocery stores are pretty good for keeping low sodium products. Im always on the look out for them now. Im noticing a trend in canned tomatoes and some frozen veggies of not adding any sodium, YEAH!! its about time.

Back from vac, didn't go up or down!
Just back from vacation. I really tried to watch it but didn't keep track of what I ate. Did do a bit of walking :) Scales were up a few oz yesterday but I'm down a couple of lbs today.
Still haven't been exercising like I should but that's the goal this week to get on the treadmill everyday. Having a lot of stress this week, tension between my daughter(25) and my parents with me caught in the middle. Since I've always been a comfort eater this has really been hard to keep out of the food. Need to go shopping today for things I can eat. Generally keeping the junk food out of the house, luckily my daughter and husband are watching the calories also. start: 302 current: 276.9 first goal: 240 by my birthday 20oct |

And I've also had to come clean to a few others after they've ask me how much I want to lose overall, because once you say you want to lose 124 pounds, people generally get bug eyed and want to know how much you weighed to begin with. It also shows on the Wii Fit Plus, so my kids and DH can see it too. Oh well, cats out of the bag now. For years I kept that number a secret, having no idea that I was almost living in fear that people would know and judge me by it. Coming clean was a really big step for me.

Good morning ladies & Happy Monday - ah, the beginning of a fresh new week. :D I spent so much time in the garden over the weekend and discovered something about this little pedometer - it doesn't track movement when you're on your hands & knees. After an hour of being in that position planting veggies I checked the pedometer and it said 11 steps so it must have only recorded when I got up to stretch by back & knees. Maybe if I clip it somewhere else? Oh well - I know I got a great workout even if my pedometer didn't.
I hope if any of you live back East that you survived the rainy storms without any damage - after that weather system passed us, before it really built up the power it had when it hit you guys, we've had unbelievably warm & clear weather. Other than the spring winds, it's been perfect, absolutely perfect gardening weather. Sweeeeeet:D So your weather is in for a big shift! Enjoy the Spring everyone! |

I don't see you mentioning the workouts here & was wondering if it's worth such a big investment (well, to us it's a big investment)
I also like to play Wii games with the kids, it's a really big help on rainy days. I love that they are up taking turns moving around rather than laying around like slugs. The other thing I like about it is that it's fun to do, and a good fall back position for those days when I don't want to work out at all. I don't know that you can get in fantastic shape with it, but it's just the perfect thing on those days when you can't face the gym or the elliptical and Jillian Michaels can just go to the devil. If you know what I mean.

good start to the week
welcome back cc- hope you enjoyed your vac and congrats on maintaining
I'm a stress eater as well- either I can't eat anything- or want to eat comfort foods- both are not good because after not eating I'm so hungry I eat way too much- and usually bad choices. Now, either I come here and it helps to express yourself or I have a serious talk to myself about my goals and the foods that will help or hinder those goals. I also try very hard not to have foods in the house so temptation is easier to avoid. way to go you gardners- the weather was a bit rainy this weekend, but still managed to walk both days. I also have a Wii Fit and loved it this winter, but now am looking forward to some outside activities- although I have a yoga and strength training routine that I will still do before I walk to warm-up. Love the yoga after working all day- feels so good to strech those muscles. It's also nice for days when I can't get outside. the hula-hoop is a real workout too !! lol |

Maybe if you gave us some examples of a typical day ppl could share what's worked for them & what they see that might be a problem. Great going on the workouts! Getting to make it a daily habit was really hard for me. I still have to make myself do it most days.
breakfast - All bran buds with activia fat free fiber yogurt Snack - 2 Ryvita thin crisp whole grain crackers with Almond extreme (Almond butter, honey, flax seeds) Lunch - Weight watchers frozen dinner or salad with a chicken breast and light dressing, fruit Snack - Protein bar or protein drink because I would of just worked out Supper - Meat, veg, brown rice if we choose to have rice, whole grain pasta (we are cutting that out now), Boiled dinner which is all good for ya, Now my problem is that I do not usually stop there if I am being honest with myself. sometime I feel I can not stop eatting. I feel like I might almost be a binger without the purging part. If it is sweets or junk food I will eat it all until it is gone no problem. I know I eat for other reason than I am hungry but it is hard to break that. I feel a food addiction (which is what I feel I have) ifs harder to break than any other addictions because you just never have anything other things you are addicted to ever again.....not that case with food now is it. I am hopeful I will get to my goal of 140 because it is affecting my marriage now as well since I do not want to have sex much partly because I do not want him to see me in certain positions. I am afraid he will be grossed out and leave me. Anyway I am sounding depressed but dont worry I am not lol. I am just being honest and trying to get everything out there so I can hear what you guys have to say as I am sure I am not alone Christine |
What are samples of waht you guys eat? How do you plan your day for waht to eat? How do you count calories? do you eat the same everyday?

Eating for me
I use fitday's foods a lot. I create my own favorite custom food list and since I tend to eat a lot of the same things it's easy. I'm not following a certain diet and probably not a well balanced one either so I make sure I take enough vitamins, calcium, supplements etc. to cover what I'm lacking. fit days good about charting nutrition.
I still eat a lot of things I've always eaten. Instead of a whataburger I get a whataburger junior. I'll never stay with it if I can't have what I want to eat, just less of it. I'm buying more fruits and veggies and since I'm not buying the junk food I'll eat the better stuff. Last night I was hungry so I had a small container of watermelon. Just make sure I enter everything on the food list so I can check my calories, etc. I try to eat when I'm hungry, eat slowly, and take at least 20 minutes to eat. Try to listen to my body and stop when I get full. I find myself craving veggies sometimes so that's what I eat. Generally I lose weight better with more protein and less carbs. |

Christine I relate to the binge & no purge perspective and have said that to ppl thinking it was so funny only to have them judge me or look strangely at me. LOL - yeah, I totally relate to your comments-also about eating for reasons other than being hungry & uncontrolled eating of sweets. Here's what I did, just FYI, everyone is different so use your intuition to see if you want to try any of this. I began changing one thing at a time. After that becomes a habit I start on another thing I want to change. I can't maintain too much change too fast for a sustained period of time. One of the first things I addressed was emotional eating. Good books at the library & Amazon, this was last year so I don't remember most of the titles but I think one of them was Feelings are Hard, Eating is Easy ... something like that. Lots of interesting insights, the most important help for me was that high carb foods are most ppl's comfort foods b/c it releases serotonin (the feel-good brain chemical) but exercise also releases it as does turkey & some other non-carby foods and these things don't cause the cravings to increase afterward. Limiting high carb food (foods high on the glycemic index, too) curbed most of my cravings & got my appetite under control (back then I ALWAYS felt hungry). Later, just recently, from tracking foods here at Fitday I learned that grains, no matter how small the portion triggers increased hunger & cravings plus I gain weight eating them. All starchy foods do too but to a much lesser degree. I gave up all sweeteners that spike glucose levels & found a sugar-free protein drink since I was working out really hard back then. Once I shifted what I ate, not how much I ate, there were immediate rewards-fewer & fewer cravings, no more binges, and a normal appetite. Then I addressed how much I ate by setting a calories per day target so my diet changed to only eating lean protein & lots of salad, raw veggies & veggie recipes with low or no fat. Then I started South Beach to use as a guide for healthy eating. But it has way too many carbs; gains & starchy foods for me to lose weight with so I've morphed it into what works for me. Still using it as a guideline though. I stick to the calories recommended by Fitday, it works for me. I'm not deprived or feeling hungry all the time. I use fitday's exercise journal so I'm always sure that I burn more calories than I eat. That's a shortened version of my journey. The reason I'm sharing this with you is because after looking at your healthy menu & considering you're still having off-plan eating there's something that isn't working for you or something isn't meeting your needs. My advice is to address why you're eating off plan first, find out what's triggering the cravings & increased appetite. Is a certain type of food triggering it, like grains? Is it just emotional? Using Fitday to track moods & foods will help you do the detective work. Try eliminating types of food for a week to see if it changes your cravings & reduces your appetite. Or go low carb for a week to see if that does it. Once you get that taken care of it sounds like you've got it all under control. |
Good morning everyone! Welcome back cc1158. I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.

I really like the Wii Fit Plus. The best thing about it is that it tracks your weight, you can't lie, you can't cheat, and you can't back up and edit what it says. I think that's one problem I have with the bathroom scale, I forget what it said. But the Wii keeps track of you with brutal honesty. A good friend of mine doesn't like hers because it weighs her 10 pounds heavier than her bathroom scale. Ours is pretty close either way, so I don't have that issue. It was a big investment to us too.

It's good to know that it doesn't catch all that, since I'm getting revved up to plant mine soon. FYI it doesn't pick up, um marital relations either, rough or otherwise, but I won't go into details on how I know that... When I first started wearing mine I would take tiny steps all over the house stomping harder than I usually do just trying to get my numbers up. Way too funny. Now I just hop on the elliptical and go for an hour, that usually gets me off to a good start on the number for the day. I realized very early on that the difference between my lifestyle and a 10,000 step lifestyle was a 20-30 minute run. The crazy part is that apparently I needed a $20 pedometer to figure that out? Man I'm not too bright. Glad to hear the weather is improving. It's still too cold at night for planting most veggies here yet. I have to get on dad about that garden. Fitday keeps me honest so I won't buy the Wii for that, but having some fun workouts does sound nice. I checked online and saw that they have a lot of exercise programs plus games & sports. Since you said you probably can't get in fantastic shape with it I'm assuming that these are more of a fun type workout rather than a boot-camp type of workout. Is that right? After putting it off for as long as possible :o being the procrastenator that I am, the raised bed should be done this evening. hooray! Fitday shows tons of calories burned for masonry work so double hooray! Hope your night temps warm up soon & your dad gets all excited & motivated about starting the garden without any prompting. |
I like the Wii Fit plus a lot. I first bought the Wii fit when it was first out, and upgraded the game package to the Plus just recently. I don't use it a lot, but I do use it. And so does the rest of the family, which is really good!

Good Afternoon Everybody!
It's beautiful here in Iowa - the sun is out and it's the perfect 65 degrees...I don't like the heat so this is considered perfect in my eyes! It's been awhile since I posted - mostly because I was feeling down about how I was doing. The first month went so great - the 2nd I did everything the same (so I thought) and no changes on the scale. I know everyone hits plateaus - but it was just frustrating for me. So I kinda stopped caring and went back to some of my old habits. But I woke up today and decided that I can't do that. I need to get back on track. I need to stop obsessing over the scale - and do what makes me feel better! And when I'm eating right and moving around - I feel great! I'm currently living with my boyfriend and his mother. And this woman is driving me crazy!!! I notice that the more she drives me crazy the more I want to just sleep and eat! I'm trying to instead of eating and sleeping to go for a walk when she is acting up. Easier said than done. Does anyone else live or work with some that just drives them crazy - and how do you deal with it? |
Hula-hoop and hula-hoop plus are both on the Wii Fit Plus, so you don't really have to buy extra games like you did in the old days with the gaming systems. The only reason I said you probably can't get into fantastic shape with it is that it seems to have longer rest times or more breaks than other videos and workouts I've tried, and it's focused on getting you up off the couch not in giving you a heart attack. The up side is that many of the games don't feel like a workout when your doing them, even though you break a sweat you're still playing a game and not paying any attention to the burn. I like Island Cycle, I'm a complete addict, love Skateboard Arena too. Keep in mind I've never used a skateboard in real life, but I've gotten so good at the Wii Fit Plus version the 8 year old boy I watch after school actually whistled (or tried to) as he watched me play. I do flips and everything, just call me "virtual Shawna White".
Masonry work? Ummm, I have some stone that needs moving and a patio stone project to get done, maybe I'll get into that next week. The weekend is shot, we have a family wedding. Christineval, I don't see a ton wrong with what you're eating. I have a similar approach, minus the bran buds (I've never seen those around here) and the WW frozen entree's (you might want to check the sodium and carbs on those, I don't really trust TV dinners for nutrition, no matter the brand name). I eat 3 squares plus 2 snacks too, but I have a pre-workout snack first thing in the morning instead of a mid-morning snack like you do. I do the following per day: 1 hour workout 6-7 days a week, first thing in the morning before I'm awake enough to talk myself out of it. 2 servings whole grain carb, low-fat, low-cal. I usually stick to 35 cal/slice bread, slim buns, Special K, rice cakes, Akmak crackers or rye crisp crackers, although occasionally I eat rice or a small serving of whole wheat pasta or 1/2 a medium potato (usually red skin). I try and keep the 2 servings under 200 calories total. If I've gained in the last 1-2 days, I cut it down to 1 serving. 3 servings of fruit, no 2 of the same kind in a given day, usually 1 banana, 1 apple or orange and a serving of berries (usually frozen blueberries or strawberries). I try and keep the fruit calories right around 200-250. 4-6 servings of protein, low-cal, low-fat, I use Spiru-Tein, a sugar-free chocolate protein powder in the morning after my workout (96 calories, 14g of protein), ff cottage cheese, water packed tuna, chicken, fish, lean beef, reduced fat cheese, low-fat cold cuts (turkey, chicken or ham), almonds, eggs, cashew, Greek yogurt, low-fat yogurt of any kind and bacon (weekends only). I try not to eat beef more than 2X/week because I tend to gain if I go over that. I try and keep the protein up around 30-40% of my calories, when my protein is low I snack on tuna or chicken salad served on cucumber slices (instead of crackers) or a cup of Greek yogurt with some low-sugar jam stirred in. 7-10 servings of veggies, notice I said "serving" not "portion", I usually use a 1 cup measure for veggies. Basically if it's a veggie, I'll eat it. I don't eat corn or peas more than once a week, because they tend to have more carbs than other options and stall me out, and when I do eat them I only get 1/2 cup. I drink water and plenty of it. I use a 24 ounce bottle which hopefully gets refilled at least 3 times/day. I drink the first one in the morning during my workout, the second between breakfast and lunch and hopefully a 3rd between lunch and dinner. Often I forget the third one so I end up trying to drink it after dinner, which has me up peeing all night. Oh well. When I'm hungry for a cheat, I won't let myself do it unless I've had all my water for the day (and since I'm always struggling with the water intake, I just don't get to cheat very often). Sometimes I'll drink a bunch of water so I can cheat, but by the time I've gotten it all downed, I'm not craving the cheat anymore. |

Do you know that sleeping and eating all the time can be symptoms of depression? And one of the best treatments out there for depression is exercise. So yes a walk, or an exercise class of some sort would be a really good way to deal with her. Maybe you and honey-bun need your own place? I hit a hard plateau a while back too, and it was like you said, I was doing everything the same as before. Well as it turns out, the less you weigh the fewer calories you burn in the exact same workout. So I had to up my workout by 15 minutes and that fixed it - for a while. Now I'm having to up it again. Ugh. |
Oh goodness Almeeker - I know we need our own place. We are in the process of saving up for a place right now. With him being unemployed and feeling like his mother needs him doesn't help things! She is quite elderly...and it is good that he is there for her - but YES we need our own place!! That does makes sense to up the exercises!! I've added hills to my walking schedule - but I guess I need to do more than that! Thanks for listening!!

[QUOTE=desertmountain;9448]Hi Christine-First let me say that your food choices basically look healthy.
This is very helpful thanks for the advice, I've definitely noticed the high carb food problem as I have it myself and stress and emotional eating is a factor for me also. One interesting side light about the dieting etc., I went to the dentist today and he noticed a difference in my teeth and gums after just 2 months of better eating |

I relate to the binge & no purge perspective and have said that to ppl thinking it was so funny only to have them judge me or look strangely at me. I am wondering if my body is rebelling after all the years of bad dieting and starvation. I think maybe I lost a lot of muscle and now it will take time to get it back. Or I dont know lol I am just frustrating because I feel I am wrecking the great opportunity I have with working out everyday at lunch with not eatting properly. |

Big big news at my house!!!! Yesterday I bought 2 pairs of shorts. I had 4 children with me, so I didn't dare try them on for fear they would wreck the place while I was naked in the dressing room. I grabbed a pair of 16's and held them up and thought they looked not too big, but just a little spacious. So on a whim I grabbed 14's thinking that if they were too small I would just diet into them by the end of May. Got them home and guess what? They fit perfectly, they are even kinda hot, well hot for me anyway.

2 more down...
I took the day off from walking--just TIRED. I guess that Wednesday will be my day if I do take a day off mid-week.
But because of that, I didn't have my smoothie, or my liter of water while I was walking. So I took advantage of that and after I showered, tried out the scale! I am another 2 down, which brings me to a total of 9 lost since April 12th. I am SO looking forward to the next couple of days, when I really think I'll drop below 270, probably for the first time in 2 years or more. Here we go!!! Thank you to all of you for your support, inspiration and advice! |
Good morning everyone! Happy hump day-I over did it with the masonry yesterday and feel really tired today - it's overcast & that's not helping either. I bumped my protein up yesterday & think I'll do the same today. What I really need is a coffee IV to perk me up. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
ALMEEKER you are SO my inspiration!! I'm so happy for you! You hot mama you! montanacricket-WooHoo below 270 -Momentous! You're doing awesome! I take exercise breaks too. Some ppl here said that our muscles need time off to repair & build & I'm following their advice. Even if that isn't true I just like having a day of not exercising LOL. Thank you Almeeker & others for telling me more about Wii Fitness Plus. I've had my eye on it for a while wondering if it's worth the big outlay of cash. So I still have one question about buying the yoga program. How does it know if you're doing the positions correctly or how many poses you're doing? Or is it just like watching a DVD and then you enter in the data? Just wondering since I'm trying to plan out what things to buy first. I noticed several sites have bundled software & add-ons with the unit. I looked at a skateboard game & saw that it needs a skateboard device/add-on. I loved skateboarding back in the 60's in CA and for what skateboards were back then, pretty much roller skate wheels on a board, was pretty good & had loads of fun. That'll be on my list of things to add-on for sure. Your comment sounded so fun, Almeeker. I want it! I'll ask for the Wii Fit Plus for Christmas since I've already asked for several composting bins that work with a hand crank instead of turning it over with a pitch fork for my birthday from family members. I'll keep my eye opened for sales meanwhile. WOW tahanks for all your info I really appreciate it. I just feel so over whelmed. I just measured myself today for the first time since Sept 28/2009 and I have only lost 1.5 inches and no weight even though I am working out everyday of the week since Feb 2010. If it is just your metabolism I've been reading about Zigzagging and that's suppose to help. Also drinking green tea and eating hot peppers give your metabolism a boost. From what I've read the biggest things are not under-eating and exercise. I know how frustrating it is - esp when you see ppl doing a lot less with a lot more progress. I've learned to not compare myself with them & be the best detective - no one knows your body as well as you can. No doc, nurse, nutritionist, coach, no one. They have great information & wisdom but what I've learned here is that everyone is unique. Some things work and some things don't. You can do it. |

It tracks your weight (the board does) and you do most of the yogo and other exercises directly ON it. (I think running in place is done just with the remote). It can sense how your balance is and they give you a "personal trainer" to watch do the positions too. It's a bit daunting because some I just CAN'T do right but I do the best I can. I need to get back on it and start up the yoga again, because I love how flexible I feel when I'm doing it regularly. It gives you an initial selection of each type of exercise and as you progress, it unlocks more poses in yoga, more exercises in the strength training and more challengin balance games etc. It totally rocks! You can also enter all of your other activities too, so if you didn't use fitday, it would simulate fitday by tracking your weight, BMI, and activity. |
Good morning everyone! I hope you've been having a good week. My neighbor gave me a bunch of landscaping rocks so I'll be busy, busy, busy burning calories & fixing up the yard this weekend. Can't wait. Yesterday was my higher calorie day and I ate some bbq chips to up the calories & satisfy a craving. They made me feel queasy b/c of all the grease, which is good since now I'll just keep remembering that the next time a 'tater chip craving hits. Blecky. Today is low cal day & there's fish thawing in the fridge. Sigh, I'm so NOT a fan of fish these days. Internet searches for low cal fish recipes are definitely in order - anyone care to share a fav fish recipe or two with me?
Chris-thank you for explaining how the Wii Fit Yoga works. I used to take Yoga for the Buddha Body classes & they showed us how to use the straps & blocks to achieve the poses. I have to use stacks of thick books instead of the blocks. You might want to play around with those to see if they help. I would love to get back into yoga. disujo-In my hump-day brain fog I forgot to comment yesterday. What a stressful situation you're in. My heart goes out to you. The good news is that it's not permanent & you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Exercise is a good way to boost your endorphins & burn off some of the negative chemicals caused by the stress. Maybe you can find another type of exercise to add or increase what you're doing now. Is there another woman in the neighborhood that you can add an extra walk with? You could have some moral support that way. Maybe you could look into some local weight loss groups like TOPS or OA - they don't cost much & you could find ppl who are emotionally supportive & encouraging as well as find a new exercise buddy. Feel free to talk here if it helps. |
Morning ladies...
Look at all the progress everyone is making!! This is wonderful and so inspiring. Ive been working on my stomach lately...still walking the 3 miles a day but also getting in about 20-30 mins of floor exercises. Noticing a difference in my clothes and want to keep it up!! Desertmountain there is a product called Popchips that are really good!!! not greasy and they are baked and you can buy them in individual bags for some control. They are hard to find here but I know much easier to find in the states. Try them for a snack sometime..they are yummy! Montana it will come!! Im taking it one decade at a time as well..working on the 260's but still have 8 pounds to get there...we can do it!!! Almeeker 14's is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Christine I would look into some info about restarting your metabolism on here...Ive been low carbing it and found ahuge difference in how I feel and dropping the weight. CC interesting that the dentist noticed a difference in your teeth! wow..good to know Ok off to get a haircut here...starting to look like a shaggy dog. No walk today since that is the time I normally go so will have to get an extra walk in this weekend... have a great day everyone1!!! waving hi to everyone passing thru!!! coming back to add: baked fish take one fillet ( I like cod or talapia but my favourite is pickeral which is also called walleye) and dip into egg mixture,,,then dip into panko crumbs,,,,place on pam sprayed pan,,add 1 tsp of lite marg or butter,,,sprinkle with lemon pepper.. bake in preheated oven for 20 mins...serve with long grain/wild rice mixture and steamed beans . One of my favourite low cal meals. The other day I made: 1 salmon fillet (took the skin off its veryyyyy fishy tasting) spread 2 tbsp of ready prepared teriyaki sauce,,, put on sprayed pan..place in preheated oven. Check fish and spoon some of sauce over fish again... Bake 20 mins... enjoy! In a pinch I keep Captain Highliner salmon individually frozen fillets with dill sauce in my freezer....its very good!!! I find the secret to good fish is to place in hot oven...and dotn overcook it! we love fish... |
Hi Ladies,
I hope I'm not intruding on your 100-pound thread, but I am new here and looking for some like-minded and similar-waisted ladies for support! I obviously haven't gone back to read the almost 200+ posts you have made, but from those I have read, I think I might fit in here. I posted about 2 months ago with an introduction, but then my internet access was sporadic, so now I am back on full-time and able to post here more often. I am almost 28 years old, 5'8" and 235 pounds. I have a wonderful husband who can eat anything and keep his 6-pack and a 15-month-old son who consumes most of my time and all of my energy. I have spent my adult life going back and forth between super fit and super fat, and I'm ready to find that happy medium and find a better balance. This is probably the heaviest I've been at a size 18, and I've been down to a size 6. I'm not really sure what my goal is (in terms of numbers), but I just want to feel better and be more comfortable. At this point, I'd be ecstatic to get back to about 180 pounds and a size 12-14. But I know "healthy" is defined for me around 140 pounds, which I haven't been since middle school! So we'll see where I end up. So do you ladies have a weekly weigh-in? Do you post your foods? Or is it more just for keeping each other on track and sharing the ups and downs? I hope you don't mind if I join! Emily |
how was everyone's week
not able to post much, but came and read so inspirational
almeeker- great job - I bet you look and feel fantastic i'm still working on my "decade" been up and down 2 lbs all week so really worked hard yesterday and today . started walking with a coworker for about twenty minutes at lunch to get in some extra exercise. hoping it will show on the scale lol others have mentioned being frustrated with the scale, but I just keep eating healthy and realize that I didn't gain all of this weight in a month and I'm not going to lose it in a month either. I want to change my lifestyle and be more active and already I'm enjoying more activites than I ever thought. Watched the biggest loser this week and watched as those people walked a 5K, I knew if they could do that then there is no reason for me to be sitting on the couch. so motivated to walk myself. desertmountain - the yoga is in the Wii Fit , but you can also customize a routine with your favorite exercises and they flow one to the next so you don't have to keep stopping and choosing the next exercise. I really like that feature and have customized a 15 min routine that I start with. looking forward to the weekend - tgif everyone |
Hey ladies!!!! Happy happy Friday everyone! I'm in with speedyfair today, I weighed up .4 pounds this morning, but I'm down for the week as a whole and I had a really good workout this morning. I'm determined to feel positive with or without a drop on the scale. Speedyfair, way to go on getting in more workout time at lunch, that's a really great habit to get into, you go girl!
desertmountain, the Wii Fit Plus is not like video games of old. The Wii Fit Plus is a balance board and a disc that has 20-30 games on it, runs maybe $90-$100 as a package, so once you own the Wii Fit Plus disc you have yoga, hula-hoop, boxing, skate board arena, island cycle, basic run, etc etc. The balance board works for Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus and I'm sure a dozen other games. The Wii game console runs about $200, so the three things together are about $300ish. Amazon runs specials on them and I think we bought all three in a bundle pack for like $290 and then got a $50 Amazon.com gift card with it. You might talk to your friends and see if any of them have the Wii, and see if maybe you can get yourself invited over for a playdate to check it out first. If you get to Michigan anytime soon, look me up and come on over for snacks and games, okay? I actually happen to like fish, my favorites are tilapia, lake trout and salmon, which I usually broil. Basically I take the fish, thaw it out, spritz it with spray butter and sprinkle it with salt, pepper, dill and a little Cajun seasoning. Then I stick it under the broiler for 5-10 minutes each side (depending on the thickness). DH douses his with lemon juice, which I can't eat because I'm allergic to citrus. The kids even like it that way. egmdobbs, welcome to the thread, I'm cracking up about being like-minded and similar-waisted, I think you've nailed us down pretty well. I haven't been 140 pounds since college, but I'm older than you, so we were probably both that weight at the same time? I started at 244, so even a little heavier than you, but I'm shorter, so my ideal weight is 120, gasp! Still, I'm determined to get there. We don't have any official weigh in, we post loses and gains as they arrive, and then cheer each other on or up - whatever the case may be. Since I tend to be very honest here, I'm going to admit that the size 14 shorts are of the "stretchy" variety. I'm so psyched about the size I want to wear them with the waist band rolled over so everyone can see it. LOL!! Patti, you and your recipes are amazing! Good luck on that haircut. I got one 2 days ago - still trying to straighten out the mess that I got with that 50 pound reward. Ugh. We also have a family wedding on Saturday, so it needed doing anyway. I'm trying not to be too worried about the wedding reception menu, it's just one meal, "self control - not out of control", all things in moderation, right? Wish me luck. One funny thing that happened to me this week is that I was at the bank drive-thru, but the ladies inside know me rather well, as I always take 3-6 kids with me and we clean out the sucker bowl. So there I am and the teller says "have you lost weight?". So I said that yes I had been dieting, and she says she can tell. I must have been 40-50 feet away from her, in my car, she can only see my face right? So then all the tellers gather around the speaker because the one I'm talking to asks what diet I'm on. I just told them I'm on fitday.com and using good sense. No lie, at least 6 adult women write it down, including one in the car next to me LOL. Wayyyyy too funny! |

I don't know what your goal is, but 250's are a big deal because it will mean I have ONLY 100 pounds to lose. I started this journey at 430, so... I am down 159 pounds.... by the time I am at my goal, I will have lost 280 pounds. If I can do it, ANYONE CAN! I know you and me will be skipping into the 260's before we know it! Keep us posted on your huge (or skinny, lol) accomplishment. |
