Never mind, it's the number and if it's artificially high (as I hope), that minimal difference will give me a lower next week - I'm in this for the long haul not the gold star of this minute. A little frustrated at my inabiltiy to support DH, his weight is slipping up , after a diligent process of getting it down. We’re cooking nice healthy low calorie dinners, and he’s carrying good lunches – breakfast is cottage cheese – it all sounds good, but too often (as in last night) – it’s “I had an incredibly stressful day, and I’d really like to go out” And I say “yes” because I want to support him, and then he has fries and a beer, and it’s no wonder those hard lost pounds are re-appearing. He knows all this, and well knows the health consequences (both as a biologist, and as one who has experienced the benefits of losing a lot of weight). It’s so hard to look long term. Well enough about me, I know my stresses are minor compared to many on this board! |
Hey all! I want to send a big hug to all you guys, parents and non parents alike. I guess every life has its stresses. Those on the motivational thread have read about mine: a lot of loss early in life, health issues, a troubled teenage daugther who I am trying so hard to help.
Mothers sometimes have to remember to take care of themselves, make time for themselves. I guess everybody has to remember that!!! Life can be very hard. But today feels like a new start. A new chance to be positive, to give it my best. I have been sick again lately, not able to drive sometimes or even sit up so much. But I am blessed with a loving supportive husband, good friends and some very kind people on this website. Health willing, I may try to take a little walk, maybe do a tiny bit at the gym. One small step at a time. Oh and I lost a pound so 137, 5'5'' and 137. 12 more to go. One small step at a time. So I am putting out a positive affirmative: I am healthy, I am successful, my family is safe and happy. May all beings be peaceful, healthy and happy. |
Weigh-in Wednesday
Good morning everyone. Welcome Megan!
140# this morning. I didn't lose, but am wearing the same pants I wore 2 weeks ago when I began (Ash Wed) and they are definitely looser. They're the one "fat pants" that I did not get rid of when I lost the weight originally. "they" say you're not supposed to keep the fat clothes, but I like putting on clothes from time to time that hang on me - it reminds me of how far I've come. They used to be tight on me (before June 2010). I started to jog this morning, but wasn't feeling it because it was REALLY windy. I am expecting to see a drop by next week for sure. Have a great day everyone! |

And like you Kimbur, I report in no change - 155 - however - I'm hoping there was a little artificial jump in that, without being too graphic, I had to get off the treadmill to go to the bathroom, which was after I weighed in. Never mind, it's the number and if it's artificially high (as I hope), that minimal difference will give me a lower next week - I'm in this for the long haul not the gold star of this minute. Hi everyone,
I'm jumping in here, too, if you don't mind. I have about 12 pounds to go...having gained back some of the weight I lost last year when I was just two pounds from my weight goal. GRRR!!! Still, I'm better than where I originally started and can hopefully reach my goal this time. Quick bio: 42 years, married, two teenagers son (17) daughter (15). Great kids, great hubby. SAHM. 5'2". Vegetarian who sometimes likes her pasta too much. Generally try to eat healthy but bread and cheese are also my downfall. I usually try to weigh in on Mondays because it encourages me to "be good" over the weekend but I can also try to weigh in on Wednesdays. Sorry my signature is long but I like to keep track and remind myself of what I've done and believe that I can do it again. |
Weigh in today... 154, down 1. whew! Its like a long bikeride.... keep my head down, slow and steady pace, sweating when I go uphill, and eat when I'm coasting downhill!
Husband and I have talked for YEARS about going to SW US and touring a bunch of the National Parks. Will soon be a reality, as we are Pulling the kids out of school, combining with spring break, and heading out there april 8th. Lots of hiking, plus going kayaking, biking, white water rafting. And hiking and hiking. Oh, and hiking! Its been one of my motivators, to keep exercising. I knew I would not reach my weight goal by this trip, and that is OK. I am excited that I won't be the reason the kids miss out of doing or seeing anything in that beautiful part of the country. I am ready to explore, maybe even be our little line leader! LOL :p Thanks everyone, for continued support and motivation. Chris |
Ooooh - Chris - your trip sounds like so much fun! I am tenatively planning a trip for next summer (2013) because I'd love for the kids to see that part of the country. I LOVE hiking.

nottango... there are a lot of great forums and sites on the web to help you plan... I've got lots of that info at home, they offer lots of feedback, recommendations of places to see, stay and eat. (im not home at the moment) I can send it your way if you are interested, just let me know.

Hello All,
Nice to see so many people checking in. Abby, it seems to me that the only thing you can do is lead by example, and don't let his backslide affect your progress. My DH will do much the same thing with wanting to sooth the stress with a nice restaurant meal. It then becomes my problem not to fall into the trap of "well if he's going to have fries and a beer, I will too." Most of the time I succeed - but not always. When I don't I find myself angry at him for leading me astray - dang husband! I am not sure that I have any beneficial solutions other than making sure you know that this is his problems, not necessarily your's to solve. Hope, I can't help but think that all of the stress trying to deal w/your DD isn't a huge trigger for your fibro. My understanding is that fibro does have a big emotional component. I know you are a smart woman and I am also sure that you probably know more about firbro that your Dr at this point. But if anyone could use a 3 week retreat away from the family it is you. I sure hope you can find such an opportunity. Nottango, I like to keep a couple of fat clothes around too. Since I respond better to positive reinforcement than negative, I'll try them on from time to time just to remind myself how far I have come. How nice that they are feeling looser! Etlosenow - Welcome, Nice progress, I see 115 on the horizon. I think losing the weight is sometimes the easy part - it is maintaining that can be challenging. Good job catching the weight gain before it got out of hand. Chris, what a great vacation! This time of year is the perfect time to go to the SW. Fewer tourists and lovely weather. All that hiking should keep you nice a trim. The scale fairies were very kind to me today. Down almost 3 lbs. I know that at least a pound is "real" when I look at my calories in vs calories out, the rest is just the usual water loss when one frist begins a restrictive diet. But hey, I'll keep it! I seem to be adapting to this low carb thing OK, but I had to slap my hand several times last week as I reached for a cracker or serving of rice. The rest of the week should be OK - not too many temptations, although we are planning a dinner out on Sunday and have a political fund raiser w/lots of food and drink on Monday. |
Thank you for your nice welcome everyone! Happy weigh day......well I guess for some.
My DH likes to munch at night on the weekends, he often grabs cheesies, icecream, or chips. And it is very very tempting. Said no thank you last weekend. Will I hold strong for this weekend? Sounds like some of you have the same problem with this kind of temptation. :) |

I'm on a break but keep it up for me
Hello everyone,
It's nice to see everyone still holding strong and the scales moving! I apologize for dropping off. Unfortunately a friend of mine passed away very suddenly while snowboarding, he was the husband of a close friend and now she is a widow at 30. I had to fly back to the states (I am on an expat contract with my company in Amsterdam) and have been staying with her at her family's place in the wine country of California. Needless to say the diet has been the furthest thing from my mind. Her mother is quite a matha Stewart of a hostess and the meals have been incredible but not for me to decide, not that I care really now anyway. On top of that I have come down with a cold or something. I am back in holland Monday and just hope that my cold plus jet lag pass quickly so that I can get back on the ball again. Keep it up, I'm still cheering all of you on although I'm not checking in often. Your successes will my inspiration to catch back up soon! In the meantime, we should all count our blessings... Best, Sara |
Oh Sara,
I am so sorry! What a terrible thing for your friend. Please know that you and she has all of our sympathy. I cannot imagine what she is going through. Be well, |
Sara,
I am so sorry you lost a friend. I hope you can be supportive and recieve support as well. I absolutely understand that some people's response to grief will be to "go all Martha Stewart", and if that helps her survive, its appropriate. Hugs, Abby |
So sorry to hear this Sara, an awful tragedy! Its nice that you could be there for the family and they are lucky to have a good friend like you by their side. You have my deepest sympathy and I can only imagine the loss you're going through, thinking of you.
Megan |
Hi Everybody! :)
can I join...i have more than 15lbs to shed tho |
Welcome becca!
We'll do a weigh in on Wed - totally optional of course. So what is your plan to get rid of those pesky 15lbs? |
Hi everyone! I faded away for a few days, but am back. Sara, sorry to hear about your friend's husband.
Welcome Becca! I found myself at a pizza place surrounded by fattening appetizers, pizza and ber on Snday. I wish I could say, I resisted, but no - ate like a champ (actually thought about Abby's quote - and it didn't stop me!) Sigh - forgot to calculate PMS into this whole plan for losing the pounds! The good news about it is that I am getting this TOTM ver with before my vacation, which starts in 11 DAYS. I am not going to make my goal of 135 before vacaqtion, but I will still be significantly slimmer than the last time I was there 2 yrs ago! |
Welcome Becca! I look forward to getting to know you !
Not Tango - friends, beer, apps, pizza, it was probably worth it... My boss (who is a wonderful guy) seems on a sabotage program - he eats quite healthy, we chat about it often (along with the weather) - for reasons that I don't understand, he's been installing chocolate truffles in the breakroom. One just entered my mouth - it must have had a will of its own, possessing me to unwrap and consume. Get thee behind me chocolate! it wasn't even that good! Hoping for a good number tomorrow! Abby |
Hello Everyone...
I love the fact that there is this group!... ... May I Join? |
Absolutely!
Tell us a little about yourself. We weigh in on Wed - as in tomorrow - but it is totally optional. |
Welcome Emily!
OK my weigh in was 156 - I jiggled the weights but I couldn't make it any different. This is the wrong direction - up a pound. I have only myself to blame, but I'd like to find someone else (DH? the Boss? My evil SIL who filled my fridge?) Today's a new day, mine to use well. Abby |
Hi guys,
thanks for welcoming me!:) my plan is to drink plenty of water my average is about 90+oz a day I'm eating healthy proteins n veggies n fruits Exercising at least 3-4 times a week I will start next Wed with my first weigh in with ya my last weigh in was 170.2, I usually weigh myself on Fridays. |
still 140. But I'm bloated, and have been eating well since my pizza and appetizers on Sunday. Next week should be better...
Welcome Emily! Looking forward to finding out more about you! |
Welcome, Emily!
Good numbers for me this week... -2 since last wed. This makes it official, that I have lost over 10% since i started end of December. Cant believe it. Couldnt tell you why its different for me this time, I know psychologically I seem to be more focused and definitely more diligent that past efforts. Fitday and strict calorie counting has helped me BIG time. The forums here an elsewhere are a great boost in the arm for me. So for all of you who post your ups, your downs, your encouragement, THANK YOU its helped me, thats for sure!!!! Chris S. |
Good Morning, and thank you for kindly accepting me into this group!
Just reading all the accomplishments you all have made, inspires me more and more to keep pushing towards the weight I would like to be! I have been living in Mexico for the last year taking care of my little brother who is attending school and playing soccer here... and in the last year, I have added about 15 pounds.... which for me is quite a bit. I have been going to pilates for about 4 months now, but it hasn't been giving me the results I want... and that could be for not watching what I eat! :( But now, I have this amazing website, and this wonderful support group! My plan is to drink more water, eat more veggies & fruits. Eat about 5 times a day... 2 of those being small snacks... And of course exercising... And since I still plan on doing my pilates, I have found this wonder website with at home workouts that are amazing, and you get to pick what you want to work out. Fitness Blender I'm about 5'4 and 143... And my goal weight by the end of the month is about 135...(I know that is quite abit, but I'm trying for that!) My final goal is about 130 or a little less! You guys all rock! And keep up the good work! We can do it! |
Good morning all my lovely losers :D.
The scale fairy continues to be kind: week 0 139.4 week 1 136.8 week 2 135.2 I did a preview weight check yesterday and things weren't looking so good but I knew I was a little *ahem* backed up. After a little plumbing correction this morning things are looking better. I have been pretty faithful to the low carb routine - much to my surprise. NO Grains, that is no bread, crackers, or cereal of any kind this week NO Rice, brown, wild or white NO Pasta of any kind including Dreamfields and other protected carb foods NO Potatoes And of course absolutely no sweets NO Corn of any type which includes tortillas (low carb included) Breakfast: eggs or plain yogurt (some fruits allowed) Snack: apple or orange (required) Lunch: meat (~5 oz) and salad Snack: nuts (this will be a bit tricky as nuts are a trigger food. I'll have to keep the serving under control) Dinner: meat and veggies. No alcohol The biggest help has been DH who has been soooo agreeable in going along with the meal planning. He is a wonderful chef - especially with entrees and he loves to cook meats. The starchs he can take or leave, and has been for the most part happy to leave them for the last 2 weeks. When he does have rice, or bread he does his best to be subtle about it - bless his heart. He hasn't however, cut back on the alcohol and that has me a little worried. I know my own consumption was getting a little too high @ 2-3 glasses of wine or beer a night. His is more like 4 to 5. But I know from many years of experience that it is useless to nag. I can only lead by example. |
Pam, you are doing great!!! And I hear ya about DH. I was worried about a similar thing with my DH; I pointed it out, tried to be mellow and in time, he got it. I hope it goes that way for you. In fact, my DH is a wonderful cook too and can also take or leave the starches.
So I am still 137, tho just yesterday I was 136. D!*n that meatball hero!!! |
hi, i'm back!
pam, congrats on the scale! i'm very excited for you and terribly terribly jealous!
i weighed in this morning at 130.2 which is what i think i weighed last time...:( i'm bummed but honestly i guess i should just be thankful i didn't gain after being in the states for almost a week. i wasn't being careful whatsoever about what i was eating (even eating a few cookies and stuff) zero workouts, and i got sick (i always scarf on comfort food when i'm sick). i'm starting to feel better but wondering when i can start working out again. one thing i am happy about: i'm AM pretty close to getting under 130, if i could just do that i feel like i would get a major motivation boost. i've been dragging above that number for ages. i think i'll try to get as much rest as i can over the next few nights so i can hit the gym hard ASAP. |
Hi Everyone! That is very sad news, Sara. It's wonderful that you were able to support your friend during this time.
I had a busy day and didn't weigh in until evening but was pretty pleased because I was 125.2 at the end of the day. The unseasonably warm mid-western days have helped me get outside and moving more these couple of days. Hopefully I can make time to do more yard work which is working out without thinking about it. That makes me very happy! |
Down 1 pound, weighed in at 144. And Pam weigh to go! Too tired...must go to bed now. Will write more later. Good night everyone.
|
even though it wasn't official weigh-in day, i decided to jump on the scale this morning, and it was 128.8! finally below 130!!!
:D :D :D i know it's just water weight as i certainly didn't work out or go hungry or something yesterday. not sure if i was retaining yesterday or more dehydrated today. but, i don't care! the scale is finally moving in the right direction! |
NICE JOB this week everybody! Yeah, and thanks for posting all that you do! Helps me tremendously knowing I am not alone!
Chris |
Great Job Ladies!

Thanks, Pam! 125 is my dream weight too! And I haven't see that in YEARS (heavy sigh.) But the scale said 136 this morning so maybe that IS the one that counts this week!!!!
|
Weigh to go, Hope, Sara, Chris, etlosenow, and Pam, great progress! Welcome Emily and Becca
Pam, my goal weight is 125, and I'm 144 right now. I need to lower the Fat in my diet. My calories are always about 1000 below what I'm spending, but they are "Fat calories" like bacon, cheese, pizza, pasta, nachos, . I just bought some lean turkey and will have that instead of bacon. My carbs seem to be too low...so I guess I'll eat more rice, and potatoes, etc. Question to all: How many calories do you aim to burn off each day? 500, 1000, 1200? more? Not sure if I should cut back more than 1000??? |
Hello again everyone...
Pam, you ssked what im doing to lose my weight... The difference this time is that I am finally being very diligent with my food diary. Stay between 1500-1600 cals a day, try and workout 3 times a week. I track everything, but it's been pretty easy once you do it for a couple weeks. By 2pm, I know how many calories I have "left" to eat for dinner and nighttime snack, and I plan our dinners that way. If my blood sugar is a bit low, I grab a fruit with some pb2 or an orange with a slice of lunchmeat so I am not gorging on tons of calories. If we go out to eat, i pick resteraunts that i can look at menus first, and plan ahead. I had a plateau at one point that lasted a couple weeks, but then I changed my workout and tried weight training and added more protein with my meals and it helped. I am sure my next one is coming soon, so just trying to keep the right frame of mind so I don't let it discourage me when it happens. My mantra is just keep swimming.... I've been playing with fit day on and off for the last 3 yrs. I only got serious about it earlier this winter when the muffin top ripped my favorite jeans, in a place where pants dont rip unless you're overweight. Coupled with the news from my dr that if my blood sugars didn't improve I'd have to increase insulin injections from 1x a day to 4x.... It was certainly the motivation to get me started. |
